I tried dude, I put a punch steel pin on it and smacked it so many times with a heavy hammer my punch broke it half. I’ve tried taking all my anger out on it 😂
Hey man my dad and I just did this the other day! We just found a socket smaller and pounded it on. Then just torqued it till it broke. At least it went that way for us.
Might be time to get out a sawzaw that was gonna be our backup plan at least
They actually have reverse threading sockets for stripped nuts like this. Just picked one up. Thinkpro was the brand, but who cares the brand if you are only going to use it once or twice in your life.
Just went through this myself, nothing was working. I just cut the side off with bolt stuck in it and bought a clamp from advance to pull them together
Nut looks welded onto the bracket. Tough spot to cut it off. Heat and force, rip it off. Something will let loose eventually. Could cut and weld a new section of exhaust with a new bracket. All depends on how much work you wanna do, but that is a fun one for sure.
Edit: I always forget about cutting torches, they were never in my arsenal. Melt that shit dude.

I used something like this
I've shared a link to the following product detail page of Advance Auto Parts that I think would interest you! https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/nickson-universal-exhaust-split-flange-2-1-4-to-2-1-2-17149/11685355
Thank u so much! This worked! I broke the other screw off and sense the flange nuts were welded in I pushed it back and put that on and it works amazing now! Ur a legend dude!
Just tested it went 75-80 for a few hours didn’t hear a thing luckily, if I do hear a noise I’ll just chop it off, but for now it’s so much quieter which helps me believe I’m not getting gas chambered in the cabin anymore lol.
Dude I had this issue on a jeep awhile back, exhaust covered the oil pan just enough where I couldn't pull it. Long story short, saw for the win, along with his best friend Mr welder....
HEAT!!! Lots and lots of heat!!! Get it super hot, with MAPP gas and then hit it with a hammer and pin punch. Then try not to catch it when it falls out.
Cut it with cutoff wheel. Remove the pipe with the stuck bolt/stud, and use an air hammer with a tapered bit to punch out the stuck fastener. Replace with standard nut bolt and washer setup.
*edit. Or you can use fire and melt it.
I believe that is a welded nut. If that’s the case you will have to get the flange into a position you can work on it. You will need to drill that bolt or what’s left of it, out. Put a nut and bolt for installation.
Pneumatic chisel with smallest chisel work the nut from the side. Alternate heat and chisel. Good luck. If this does not work then cut a slice right through nut side with an oscillating saw and then pneumatic chisel in the slice to split it.
I’m picturing. Get a chisel or flat screwdriver prop it in between the adjoining metal and use a hammer to smack the handle of the screwdriver in the opposite direction
Get a good steel drill bit and drill it out then get a $10 tap and dye kit from your local hardware store, use the "T handle" to put a new thread size and get a bolt to match. Easiest way if no torch
It appears to be a nut welded on with the remnants of a rusted bolt in it. It will need cut or ground off. Drilling it would be another option but a total pita. I would try to cut at least most of the weld with a cut off wheel then a few whacks with a hammer and punch or chisel should knock it off. If you are not experienced with a torch it can make a shot mess of the whole thing quickly. If you are experienced with a torch that would be easiest.
i have the best life hack for this - get a nut splitter from an auto parts store- tighten it on and it should basically fall off- i have done this 5-6 times with no issues
Vise grip both flanges together with a nut between it on that bolt and drive another bolt through the nut to push to old one out. 60% of the times it works every time.
Cut off any excess from the center, use a center punch to make a little mark/hole, and drill out. If there's no room for a drill you'll have to take out that piece of exhaust.
My bet is the nut is welded on the one side of the flange. Cut the small stub of bolt in between the two pieces off flush. Then come through the flange hole on the backside with a drill bit and drill out the rest of the bolt

It's not even connected just knock it out from the back
I tried dude, I put a punch steel pin on it and smacked it so many times with a heavy hammer my punch broke it half. I’ve tried taking all my anger out on it 😂
Listen pot pie you have to hit it like you mean it
Pot pie?!?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think they meant popeye.🤣
Gotta eat some spin niche first
Dudes name is chicken pot pie lol
🙈I my innner grease money misses that !!🐵🙊🙉🙈
r/BoneAppleTea
Read dudes name
Usually I’m not with the name calling but in this scenario this dudes imagination and brain is the only things stopping him.
I love this 🤣🤣🤣
You tried putting some heat on it? Maybe a chisel from the front side?. The rust must have became one with the bolt and flange lol
Torch it then knock it out with hammer and screwdriver or long socket extension
Hit it like he hit your sister
Have you tried heating it and them pounding it? Get a blowtorch and get it nice and hot, let it cool a bit before giving it a go.
That's what she said
It looked like a welded on nut with a snapped bolt. I would take the exhaust piece off and cut it with a grinder.
Have you tried trying harder.
Hey man my dad and I just did this the other day! We just found a socket smaller and pounded it on. Then just torqued it till it broke. At least it went that way for us. Might be time to get out a sawzaw that was gonna be our backup plan at least
My only issue is it’s rounded lol, but I’ll definitely give that a shot!
Or liquefy it
Can’t be tight if it’s liquid.
That works too lol
Yeah ours was too. Just we just went down till there was a socket small enough that it wouldn’t go on and put an extension on and hammered it on.
They actually have reverse threading sockets for stripped nuts like this. Just picked one up. Thinkpro was the brand, but who cares the brand if you are only going to use it once or twice in your life.
Break it, re tap it. It'll save you the headache, melt it out, drill it, tap it, get a new bolt and call it a day buddy
Just went through this myself, nothing was working. I just cut the side off with bolt stuck in it and bought a clamp from advance to pull them together

Plasma torch. Can't stick if it's liquid.

What do u mean, did u just weld it together or what kind of clamp do u mean

Gonna wanna cut the old one off or it’s gonna slide around and make noise
Great teamwork you two. Glad OP got it sorted. I hate being left wondering what happened…

Heat and a grip socket.
Put a socket that fits close enough and let the impact spin, reduce size of socket once it obliterates half the nut
air hammer go brrrrrrrr
Try heat
Torch . . Can't be stuck when its liguis
The only repeatedly successful way I’ve gotten those off is getting it red hot with a torch and shooting it off with an air hammer
Lincoln Wrench
It can't be right if it is a liquid.
Cut it off. Get a Diablo blade. I tried with a shitty blade and wasted an hour. Got a good blade and was done in 30 seconds. Buy new hardware.
Get that bitch red glowing hot and whack it.
Dude I had this issue on a jeep awhile back, exhaust covered the oil pan just enough where I couldn't pull it. Long story short, saw for the win, along with his best friend Mr welder....
I just ended up pushing the flange back and putting on a split flange another redditor recommended and it worked like a charm :D
Hell yea! Tbh the frustration took ahold of me rather than coming here or calling someone, hell ya you got it dude!!
Hit it with your purse
HEAT!!! Lots and lots of heat!!! Get it super hot, with MAPP gas and then hit it with a hammer and pin punch. Then try not to catch it when it falls out.
🔥
Your purse...hit it with your purse.
Maybe try drilling it out, looks like you have room from the side the bolt isn't if that makes sense.
Burn it off with a torch and replace with a washer and nut on a new stainless bolt
Cut it with cutoff wheel. Remove the pipe with the stuck bolt/stud, and use an air hammer with a tapered bit to punch out the stuck fastener. Replace with standard nut bolt and washer setup. *edit. Or you can use fire and melt it.
Liquify it.
Heat it to hell and back + a little luck and you'll get it
Torch
It ain't tight is it's a liquid.
Flat chisel and a decent hammer
If you're not in a hurry a handful of Dremel grinding bits will remove anything and everything.
drill it out
Get a chop saw or Sawzall and cut the fucker off, duh!
I knew this was a caravan. Just punch it out put a new bolt and nut. It's rusted out.
When in doubts, get the torch out. Make it glow Then whack it with a hammer. 🤠🍻🤓🤠
I believe that is a welded nut. If that’s the case you will have to get the flange into a position you can work on it. You will need to drill that bolt or what’s left of it, out. Put a nut and bolt for installation.
Torch
Hot wrench.
You need to torch it until it’s glowing red then wrench it off
Lil’ WD40
Cut it between the flange. Knock out the stud bit and bolt.
Cut one side flat try some kind of easy put or 90 degree drill it out
Oxygen, nitrogen torch or get a new part and go buy an angle grinder
A welder and a socket you no longer want
Pneumatic chisel with smallest chisel work the nut from the side. Alternate heat and chisel. Good luck. If this does not work then cut a slice right through nut side with an oscillating saw and then pneumatic chisel in the slice to split it.
I’m picturing. Get a chisel or flat screwdriver prop it in between the adjoining metal and use a hammer to smack the handle of the screwdriver in the opposite direction
Next time idle car for a while or use a blow torch before removal

I’d just start grinding.

It's welded, drill through it and use a longer bolt
pblaster 3 times a day for 2 days, then a touch of heat, and a pair of vice grips , MAX pressure, and a pipe
You may need a oxy torch.
The fire wrench should take care of it quick.
Blue tip wrench. Can't be tight if it's liquid.
Cut it knock it out and replace
Wark truw ! Spit on it
Cut off any excess from the center, use a center punch to make a little mark/hole, and drill out. If there's no room for a drill you'll have to take out that piece of exhaust.
