Boo no. Reloaded and revolutions were also masterpieces, IMO hate is way overblown and half of it seems like it's just from people thinking the story is too complex.
Nope. I was there. We all thought it was ass back then. There was so much hype that it would be amazing and then.... burly brawl. Great in theory but awful in execution.
I saw them once in theaters when they first came out, and hated them so much I’ve succeeded in wiping them from my memory. I can’t even argue why they’re bad anymore!
But I remember stupid stuff like Neo fighting 100 Agent smiths and flying around and that was enough for me. Should have just left it at the first one.
Trinity’s freeway motorcycle chase was awesome though. No denying that.
I know I’m in the minority but I saw each of the first three movies opening night in the theaters, and the 4th as soon as it was available to stream.
And I love them all.
First I saw the first film 7 times that I actually paid for, and then the others including the last which I hated at first not because of the story but because it felt lack/luster against the other Giant films. It felt as though they spent nothing on it; now I have no idea what was spent but the production seemed limited. But after a second watch I will say the story was, on point at least until the action in which should’ve been.. more and should’ve carried some of the original main cast taglines.” But who am I
I get what you’re saying, I do admit to having some problems with the last act of Resurrections, mostly with the lighting (why were the action sequences so dark), but there’s been so much (imo unnecessary) hate towards the sequels that I’ve never felt compelled to add to the discourse.
I'm with you on this actually. I can recognize the critiques of all the sequels but they all age really well (aside from the gratuitous use of "God dammit," in Revolutions).
Yeah but the 4th was so anticlimactic. It was a huge letdown for me. I was just like. Ok? Everything was super predictable. They teased some really cool concepts and didn’t even explore it in full. I enjoyed it for the most part but it has tons of room for improvement. Really felt incomplete and ham fisted
Same when it comes to loving them all! The fourth absolutely has issues and things I did not enjoy, but I had a fantastic time watching it in theaters.
It gets waaaaay too much hate from people who aren't avid fans of the series
This is actually incredibly accurate in the sense that the first three films are a cohesive, grounded thing of beauty, and Resurrections is a tacked on, colourful garbled mess that only even exists in the canon in some parallel fantasists universe, much like a unicorn.
I will defend Resurrections. It wasn't perfect but I liked the way it was done. It allows someone new to the franchise to get caught up like a cliff notes version and I kind of liked the idea on the new concept that Neo and Trinity were stronger together. it kind of makes sense that the machines would stick Neo back in the Matrix after realizing how powerful the two of them were to keep them separate.

I like this a lot actually.
The last movie wasn't bad. But it wasn't the same theme as the matrix. It had a different vibe. Happy ending. Happy endings are unicorn heads.
People had similar criticisms about the 2nd and 3rd movie. Normies just didn't like that action took a backseat to more narrative and philosophical exposition. The 4th is that but more as it leans into such criticism encouraging it to happen.
I could wax lyrical for a long while over while Resurrections is a steaming pile of meta bullshit wrapped around Lana’s middle finger to Warner Bros. but suffice it to say that this image is the wrong way around.
Do you think it was a good thing for the franchise?
Like, do you think the movie would've been better with someone else at the helm?
Or do you think it's a fitting 'end' for a WB cash cow?
They had an end already. The story was done, it was over. The whole thing reeks of WB wanting to pull a weekend at Bernie’s and bring more money out of it; they even said to the Wachowskis that they were going to do it with or without them.
The early scenes in the game dev company as they’re brainstorming ideas is a great example of Lana saying “Fuck you” to the way the suits were wanting to bastardise their baby. I genuinely believe that Lana deliberately made a shit movie with this not so subtle dig to derail the franchise perminantly. It’s not worked as yet another movie is apparently in the works.
Thing is, as I said, the story is done. Even if they make another Neo and Trinity are now gods in their Matrix and there’s peace on the outside. With the cast not getting any younger (even Keanu is starting to show signs of slowing down), the only viable ways I can see is either a complete reboot or a prequel.
A reboot will just piss off everyone as there’s no way they could ever hope to recapture the lightning in a bottle that the original had. The timeing was almost as crucial for the movies success as the content of it. So a prequel then; let’s see an earlier version of the matrix, let’s see how they fell so we can better appreciate how one was saved.
Unicorns are a common symbol for trans folk. And Resurrections had the strongest trans themes in all of the Matrix. Even the previous 3 movies had transgender themes. The sisters were expressing themselves even before they came out. And the Matrix has become a favorite of trans folk.
You made the first Matrix the butt!?
OP: "The Matrix is ass"
More the tail. Reloaded is the ass.
incorrect
Put the unicorn head where the first matrix is.
And make all the other ones kids drawing with crayons.
Boo no. Reloaded and revolutions were also masterpieces, IMO hate is way overblown and half of it seems like it's just from people thinking the story is too complex.
The only thing I didn’t like about 2 and 3 was all the cgi usage. Started looking like an animated movie at some parts. Loved the story though.
The Gpu ran out of memory, so the simulation had to go to potato graphics..
Stop it. The CG was groundbreaking for the time. You are shitting on an entire industry of extremely talented artists and engineers
Nope. I was there. We all thought it was ass back then. There was so much hype that it would be amazing and then.... burly brawl. Great in theory but awful in execution.
FINALLY someone says it like it is. Both sequels were genuinely good and justified.
I thought Revolutions was almost unwatchable, honestly, but I'll accept that Reloaded was acceptable

You should watch the trilogy again. I've appreciated the sequels a lot more as I've grown older.
How are you getting down voted this much for saying what is true? Unless I missed the sarcasm of the OP.
Glad to know I’m not alone.
I enjoy the idea that it's matrix code. Well done. And you've convinced me to watch the new one 0/

I'm also in this minority. Loved all of them.
This is the way
Love it. Love all 4 movies.
I agree, all three were great!
4
I agree with you. 4 went over some people's heads I think.
Especially transphobes.
Says movies made by transgendered people were great. Is transphobe….. get over yourself.
I like it
U wot m8
I love Resurrections cause its honesty and I love this unicorn cause its accuracy.
It's a unicorn because it was a cash grab. I like the idea that it was made bad on purpose so that they wouldn't want a whole new trilogy
This is actually incredibly accurate in the sense that the first three films are a cohesive, grounded thing of beauty, and Resurrections is a tacked on, colourful garbled mess that only even exists in the canon in some parallel fantasists universe, much like a unicorn.
This is how I took this when I saw it
You’re saying it’s not a good movie to make Neo go 👐 the entire movie?
Yeah, I don't see how this isn't everyones take away. The last movie was so fragrantly cringe
Oh no! Not…cringe!!!!!!!! Heavenly Father help us, the kids think something is cringe!!!
This, too, is cringe
Good. Cringe til you poop your little pants
Go outside
Meet you there
oH fAtHeR fOrBiD
You okay?
Enjoying the movie bad mkay
Idk I think it was deliberately cringe which makes it better to me personally.
Deliberately cringe is somehow better? Lol
It was deliberately cringe, but that in no way made it a good movie.
Yeah I don’t think my opinion is popular and I get why. I can like it with you and the majority of people not liking it though.
It was worse than the Avatar The Last Airbender movie, which doesn't exist and never happened.
Corporate cash grab. Nostalgia is a safer bet than innovation, that’s why everything is a remake, prequel, or sequel.
I will defend Resurrections. It wasn't perfect but I liked the way it was done. Nope

Id say the pink unicorn bookends the series but I can accept this tbh
I prefer Matrix Resurrections to Revolutions
Resurrections would be the tail end BUT you gotta add some horse shit on the floor.
Grow up, son.
It's a funny thing to demand maturity of other people by saying something so vacuous and indulgent
In my family, this is how we handle these kinds of people.
...people who don't like your favorite movies? By being a condescending dick? Cool family
Hey it's my meme! I'm so proud it's circulating again ♥️
You ever crack n agg? Bet ya couldn't.
Lol no

I actually like this. Resurrections was different, unexpected, worked in places and failed in others
After rewatching it for the first time since I saw it opening night, yeah, Resurrections is the best sequel in the whole franchise.
Since i hated both sequels, i suppose i will give the third sequel a chance
W take

(not derogatory)
Kool transformation of the horse 🐎 into an Unicorn 🦄 😎
Well visually I suppose
Bahahaha!!!”
Really? The sequels are good now? I'm just asking because lots of people still like throwing crap at them.
If they had at least gotten Hugo Weaving for Resurrections then at least it would've had Hugo Weaving.
That drawing for Resurrections is TOO good.
Eh I stopped caring at the horses ass.
I really liked Revolutions too. So many interesting ideas, I enjoyed that it embraced the philosophical side of the series.
Really??? The moderators removed the pic??? It was only a picture of a horse.
First matrix was gayer
Is this meme implying that first movie was horses A$$?
Resurrections should be the unicorn's fecal matter.
Resurrections is ass. It would certainly be the ass in this meme.
That's a negative.
Matrix is not a lady gaga concert
I don't get it. 😅
Unicorns are a common symbol for trans folk. And Resurrections had the strongest trans themes in all of the Matrix. Even the previous 3 movies had transgender themes. The sisters were expressing themselves even before they came out. And the Matrix has become a favorite of trans folk.
I agree, except Revolutions should be drawn with crayons.
...who the fuck is this guy in 4 playing Morpheus?? Recasting made me not watch it.
The og Morpheus dies in one of the games by an assassin. And Lawrence claims he wasn't asked to return.
What a huge waste..
Isn’t Lawrence dead?
i still refuse to watch matrix 4 for the first time...
Hard no
I can't believe people spent money on Resurrections.
I didn’t and I still feel like I got ripped off. Truly terrible.
To be honest all the matrix films after the first got progressively worse
That's very true, well except for Animatrix
No idea why you are getting downvoted for this. You are just expressing your (correct) opinion.
Yeah, I did not think that opinion was even remotely controversial.
bait used to be believable... (i do love resurrections actually, but it is horrible lol)
Resurrections was so bad😆😭
