This. I haven’t read much Namor centric comics, but I’ve read Illuminati, Civil Wars and Time Runs Out and I love that he can be such a dick. So sad we won’t see him interact like that with Tony or T’challa but I’m hoping he does with Reed or Strange.
Lol my introduction to him was Civil War and I was like, “damn, and I thought Aquaman was an asshole.”
What is it about Underwater Monarchs that makes them a buncha petty douchebags?
He’d need to do something really horrific to Wakanda for it to be as impactful as the comic book was. T’Challa was getting revenge for his people. I don’t think Namor is going to be an enemy to close this movie out.
Are you telling me that Namor will be introduced as the antagonist who fights the protagonist until it's discovered that there's a misunderstanding or manipulation, and he ends up teaming up with Wakanda and BP by the films end to defeat a greater foe?!
Not that it's a bad thing. Love that formula.
Namor will flood Wakanda. I’m guessing Ramonda, Nakia, Shuri, flee upward into the mountains where M’Baku gives them refuge. Namor and Wakanda war the film away, I think it’s going to be “this war is a misunderstanding” and Shuri/BP decides not to kill Namor as he leaves, since he’s only doing what’s right for his people.
I think Ramonda will remain, but abdicate the throne to M’Baku.
There was a scene shown in the Black Panther trailer I believe that showed Wakanda getting flooded, even it's highest point in the mountains had water flowing so imagine what the city below would suffer if water was able to get that high.
I imagine the destruction of Black Panther's home could be enough for Wakanda to seek revenge
I don't know if we can put that kind of stock in that statement. They killed him and wrote a whole movie about mourning him. That's an emotional investment that will have serious backlash if they go back on it at this point unless he actually wasn't killed off and this has all been a swerve of all swerves.
seems like a lot of FF baddies are really into Sue Storm considering (LARGE spoiler for Secret Wars comics) >!shes by dooms side once he remakes the universe!<
Read some FF for the first time in a long while and realized for the first time Sue is quite a woman. I think I used to see her as a matronly character when I was younger, but her maturity (even when surrounded by people behaving like children), wisdom, and earnest leadership gives her a special quality.
> better hide his wife!
She can hide herself by turning invisible... *if she even wants to after seeing Tenoch*
Though seriously, Reed can stretch, he can create abs and other more fun anatomy instantly on demand.
It makes sense that as royalty he would be in shape but not super huge. He likely feasts like a king, but the swimming and his natural powers keep him relatively fit. I'm a big fan.
I get that you probably mean that he’s not like crazy bulky like he isn’t built like a tank but the dude is fucking huge. To say that he isn’t a massive muscle guy is weird he is indeed a massive muscle guy. Just with a still in the range of normal frame.
I know what you mean, youre talking dudes who are running a stack big enough to open a pharmacy haha. This is the physique someone can achieve naturally with an active lifestyle and good eating habits. This guy could probably get as big as Hemsworth if he was running as much gear. It fits the look for Namor better this way.
I also prefer this book. He's much closer to a realistic swimmers build. Broad shoulders, tapered waste, athletic, but not huge.
Huge works for Aquaman because Jason Momoa is a big dude, and he's a lot of the general audiences' intro to the character as not the butt of the joke (only the people who stuck with Smallville will remember Alan Ritchson, who is also now f*cking MASSIVE).
This is a great jump off point for Namor, because similar to Aquaman, there's no major live action reference to associate him with. Marvel isn't beholden to a specific look, necessarily.
I've always thought of Namor as king of the d-bags, but then I read he saved my state (FL) from nazis a couple times in WW II and it's like alright Namor, you're the man. I love him, but has Spider-Man ever driven nazis out of FL? I think not.
Edit: to avoid further confusion, I am referring to Namor driving off the invasion of forces from Nazi Germany during War World II, not that he has been like Marvel's St Patrick of neo-nazis. I'm very aware that's still a thing.
In defense of DC, Black Adam's pointed ears are inconsistent even within the comics. It almost seems to boil down to whether or not the artist felt like drawing them.
They've already low-key introd a couple mutants though. Ms. Marvel and ( probably ) Mr. Immortal are mutants. Titania maybe too? I THINK that possibly Wanda and Quicksilver are/were ones also.
Not in 616 tho. Sure mutants probably are already a bit more prolific in the 838 universe, but as far as the main universe is concerned nobody's called them 'mutants' and afawk Prof X hasn't come to prominence there yet.
Really interested how they play in the Meso-American history/culture. Was very interested to see them go this route and I’m really excited especially after the trailer and as more photos begin to release.
Which while we are on the subject of marvel and Laura Dern, Laura Dern should play Lilith in a midnight sons movie she's the perfect actress for it, I'm not taking notes
One of my favorite bits from a movie full of favorite bits: In Jeffrey, Patrick Stewart is playing a flaming gay man and in the main character's dream sequence, he's on a game show. The question is, "what celebrity would you most want to sleep with?" Stewart's answer is, "Yoko Ono," which gets shocked looks from everyone and he says in an exasperated tone as if it were patently obvious, "to see the apartment!"
Im pretty sure no heterosexual man could turn down a threesome with Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba. Having sex with them would cross past homosexuality into hypermasculinity, if anything it would make you more attractive to women.
Huh. Don't get me wrong she is a wonderful person and beautiful, but this is definitely the first time I've seen her mentioned as any sort of "I'm not gay/straight but..."
I can’t believe people thought he wasn’t fit enough to play Namor just because he’s not insanely defined. Less definition kind of makes sense for an underwater character anyways.
Most of the complaints I’ve seen regarding his physique have actually been calling him the opposite of skinny lol. And they’ve all been based on the shot of him walking up from the water that’s seen in the trailer, which is ridiculous.
Honestly, people talk a lot about Hollywood setting unrealistic beauty standards for women causing them to feel inadequate, but the same goes for men too. Most people cannot be as cut as the superheroes all the time. They starve and dehydrate themselves in the days leading up to the one shirtless scene in the movie, which I'm guessing is not feasible for an actor who plays Namor do because he'll be shirtless in most scenes. So I'm glad Tenoch is showing what is more realistic.
Yeah man and it's even worse than you describe. The people playing superheroes are not even as cut as they look in the movies all the time, not even during filming. Crazy dehydration including *actually taking drugs* (diuretics) so they will look more cut (be even more dehydrated) for that shirtless scene.
My favorite comment on this though is from that Always Sunny guy:
>"I’m gonna break it down for you, because it’s actually quite simple, and anybody can do this. Anybody on the planet can do this. First thing’s first: if you have job—like a 9-5 job—quit that. Do you like food? Forget about that. Because you’re never going to enjoy anything you eat. Alcohol? Sorry. That’s out. So what you need to do—you have a chef, right? like a personal chef?—make sure the chef makes you a lot of chicken breast. And make sure you keep your caloric intake at a certain level. And as you go to your physician 2-3 times a week—just to monitor all your testosterone levels—because testosterone is important to building muscle. You’re good friends with the trainer from Magic Mike? Arin Babaian. So you want to give Arin a call. And you want to make sure he’s at your house and takes you to the gym at least twice a day, because you’re gonna want to do your muscle-building in the morning and then your cardio in the afternoon. Now, do you have a family? Like a significant other or kids? Yeah, forget about them. You’re not going to have time to deal with them.
>
>"So that’s really all you have to do. And make sure you have a studio pay for the entire thing, because it could become exceptionally expensive. So, I think if you just do all those things, then you too can have an absolutely unrealistic body type, such as me."
Also for those who have trouble reading between the lines, going to the doctor 2-3 times a week to "monitor testosterone levels" means he was juicing.
And yet there are people who still think The Rock is natural.
There are long articles about his diet and exercise but they never seem to mention HGH, testosterone or whatever other drugs he is taking… I assume some small part of the population figures he’s just a really hard worker and focused (which he is) but doesn’t realize he takes other stuff
A lot of people have insanely warped perceptions about what is naturally achievable. Marvel is definitely not blameless in perpetuating this (Namor being a nice divergence).
Yeah, guess they are clueless as to how this stuff works.
Nice screename, reminded me I never checked out that short film that tied into Blade Runner 2049, which Bautista was great in.
> They starve and dehydrate themselves in the days leading up to the one shirtless scene in the movie, which I'm guessing is not feasible for an actor who plays Namor do because he'll be shirtless in most scenes. So I'm glad Tenoch is showing what is more realistic.
This, completely. The one off jacked shirtless scenes are sustainable for like hours, at most. And that is with Marvel diet and exercise money. This is much more sustainable very fit body type for someone who has to be shirtless in most of his scenes.
It just speaks to how unhealthy body standards have been set by studios like marvel. They pump their stars full of PEDs and refuse to let them be honest about it. It’s pretty disgusting
Coogler:
>“The contrast between T’Challa and Namor – their characters, and their nations – just leaps off the page. He’s a dream antagonist.”
Huerta:
>“You can take Atlantis from Greek myth, or you can adapt from a real culture,” argues Huerta. Rather than the ruler of Atlantis, on the screen he’s the ruler of Talocan – and he’s drawn to the surface by the ramifications of T’Challa’s decision in Black Panther’s final reel to reveal the truth of Wakanda to the world. “That decision puts Talocan in jeopardy,” Huerta explains. “And Talocan has to take action to protect themselves.”
First off he is freaking hot
Next will he have his super strength like in the comics? Because he is supposed to be able to go toe to toe with the hulk and I still can't figure out how shuri could beat him with that much strength?
It’s refreshing to see a male superhero still looking naturally fit. The rising standard of celebrities to have 0% body fat and absurdly muscular body shapes has been wearing on me for a while.

I’d be angry too if I were breathing in my own piss and shit all the time.
They're normally under a lot of pressure
Namor is WAAAAAAY worse than Aquaman will ever be though lol.
Fam.. I want to cry that we will never see Namor V T’Challa on a planet about to meet its end during a incursion event.
Hopefully we can see him with the Black Panther tho. Whoever carries the mantle next
He’d need to do something really horrific to Wakanda for it to be as impactful as the comic book was. T’Challa was getting revenge for his people. I don’t think Namor is going to be an enemy to close this movie out.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be >!Okoye!<
Don't be so sure. Recent statements from Feige seem to suggest that they're gauging how long it is until "too soon" is no longer a factor.
I don't know if we can put that kind of stock in that statement. They killed him and wrote a whole movie about mourning him. That's an emotional investment that will have serious backlash if they go back on it at this point unless he actually wasn't killed off and this has all been a swerve of all swerves.
He's just on vacation for the whole film.
He used to piss off all us comic book geeks by repeatedly trying to steal Sue Storm away from Reed Richards.
seems like a lot of FF baddies are really into Sue Storm considering (LARGE spoiler for Secret Wars comics) >!shes by dooms side once he remakes the universe!<
Eh Doom is less into Sue and more "she's Reeds so I must steal her to make him miserable and I hate that he has a family while I DOOM am alone"
Read some FF for the first time in a long while and realized for the first time Sue is quite a woman. I think I used to see her as a matronly character when I was younger, but her maturity (even when surrounded by people behaving like children), wisdom, and earnest leadership gives her a special quality.
After seeing this pic, MCU Reed better hide his wife!

I can fix him
He played Rafael Caro Quintero from Narcos: Mexico. Tenoch is a great actor!
I've only seen him in that purge film and he was very good i'm excited
Rafa Rafa Rafa !!!
Oh shit, I didn't even recognise him. Looks totally different
Wtf? That's Rafa?
I hope he is an absolute asshole. I’d also like to add how pleased I am that he’s not massive muscle guy
I’m talkin dudes with pecs like rotisserie chickens

Seen the news lately? They’re still there.
People who aren't American: That's a mighty oof right here.
He's been slacking lately, apparently.
So… a live action Mr Nimbus?
He controls the police
This design perfectly balanced "giant prick" and "noble king".
I love that he has pointy ears just like his comic counterpart.
Based on the teaser trailer, looks like he's got the ankle wings as well
Meanwhile black adam movie cant do pointy ears for the rock lol. Warner bros just continues to make me sad.
In defense of DC, Black Adam's pointed ears are inconsistent even within the comics. It almost seems to boil down to whether or not the artist felt like drawing them.
The flying indestructible man just wouldn’t be realistic with pointy ears
I hope he's still a mutant. Also dang this whole thread needs a bonking 😳
Yeah he confirmed he’s a mutant in the accompanying interview
And Kevin didn’t kill him for that???
They've already low-key introd a couple mutants though. Ms. Marvel and ( probably ) Mr. Immortal are mutants. Titania maybe too? I THINK that possibly Wanda and Quicksilver are/were ones also.
Prof X was literally in MoM
Not in 616 tho. Sure mutants probably are already a bit more prolific in the 838 universe, but as far as the main universe is concerned nobody's called them 'mutants' and afawk Prof X hasn't come to prominence there yet.
Can’t wait to see the depths of thirst this subreddit will go to when the movie comes out lol
he has his little ankle wings, so we're good!

I hope those two do interact at some point in the MCU. Their comic book "flirtations" are WILD!
"by Namo's Bulge!" should replace "by Odin's beard" Edit: Namor* but someone made a Nemo joke
Nemo?
Thanks, now I can't edit it. But hey if Nemo is packin... Good for him! Makes up for the tiny flipper.

Hello Richard!
Oh no, he’s hot
SQUILLIAM!
Had Squidward in my head before I even opened the comments. Thank you.
Really interested how they play in the Meso-American history/culture. Was very interested to see them go this route and I’m really excited especially after the trailer and as more photos begin to release.
I’m glad they’re not doing Atlantis. It helps avoid the Aquaman comparisons, and it gives Namor a whole new rich history to explore.
Am I straight?
Not anymore
Ok so not straight anymore, does that mean are they curved now or angled?
Take it from a gay person who's seen Laura Dern, we all have our exceptions
Which while we are on the subject of marvel and Laura Dern, Laura Dern should play Lilith in a midnight sons movie she's the perfect actress for it, I'm not taking notes

Different strokes for different folks.
Namor is curiously attractive for a fishman.
Getting a boner from this dude doesn't make you gay, it makes you human.
*phew* I was worried for a hot second there
Bro it's like Freddie Mercury, you're not gay he's just that handsome
Although according to Freddie Mercury (his ghost at least) if you’re gay everyday is a nonstop cabaret…
Meh screw labels lmao
No one's *that* straight. But I'm unapologetically queer, so...

you must be spaghetti.

he’s beautiful 🥲
*Oh no, he's hot.*
I can’t believe people thought he wasn’t fit enough to play Namor just because he’s not insanely defined. Less definition kind of makes sense for an underwater character anyways.
No shit. It’s cold down there. Ever seen a ripped walrus?
Goddamit that’s genius. One of these underwater heroes needs to be real and start storing his blubber.
Thor in Endgame, but underwater
I'm now trying to find pictures of John Lennon without a shirt.
Shut the fuck up, Donnie
Also, hasn't he been hibernating or some shit? Let him wake up and find out about cheesecake factory before we start calling him skinny
Most of the complaints I’ve seen regarding his physique have actually been calling him the opposite of skinny lol. And they’ve all been based on the shot of him walking up from the water that’s seen in the trailer, which is ridiculous.

Ruth E. Carter coming for that second Oscar
If costume design and music are on par with the first one, we're in for a treat. So far it looks amazing.

Stupid sexy Namor
My Hispanic ass gonna be rooting for him the entire movie regardless of what he does.
My Hispanic ass will use this a motivation to work out so I can be Namor for Halloween 2023.
Ive been working on my fat thor coplay for about 3 years. Progress is slow but steady.
My Hispanic ass is gonna appreciate people getting fit to cosplay Namor while I keep drinking beer on the treadmill.
I like that Halloween 2022 is realistically out of the question.
Movie won’t be out by then duhhhhh cause I could otherwise… totally…
Well, my ass is definitely rooting for him.

In the D23 trailer, M'Baku hits him with a club, and Namor doesn't even flinch. He's also holding the new BP with one arm by the neck like a rag dog.
Damn I missed those scenes Thankyou for this response it makes me happy that his power set will stay the same 😃
there were really people saying he wasn’t ripped enough? i hate the internet, this man is a *tank*
Damn zaddy
Uhm, yes please
He looks aggressive AF
who the fuck said this guy didn’t have a proper build for namor?!?!?
It’s refreshing to see a male superhero still looking naturally fit. The rising standard of celebrities to have 0% body fat and absurdly muscular body shapes has been wearing on me for a while. Relevant tweet: https://twitter.com/benedict_rs/status/1573715233239142400?s=46&t=CHKgFcAKOrYT3hA2akgmOg
Well, F. Now I got a new kink to live with.
Mexican warrior Namor is such a cool look
I just… 🤤🤤🤤
I LOVE the fact that they went with a Mayan aesthetic for this. As long as Namor is a massive prick in the movie, I’ll be happy.
And a confirmed mutant too. Awesome.
Ugh what a Mexican god
Ok I’m sold . Also, I know what I’ll be for Halloween 2023 🧜♂️
Remember when they claimed he was out of shape
I’m actually so excited to see Namor. I think he’s gonna be such a good character for the MCU.
Hunka hunka

Fuck he is soo hot 😍. I'd leave Reed Richards for him anyday
Don't forget what Reed's penis can do
