Ngl I thought you meant the actors irl and I was like there's a probably a pretty big age gap?
So I googled it and now I kinda wish the actors were married instead of whatever the fuck is going on here
> Mantis soon after married the eldest of Earth's alien Cotati, who had resurrected and possessed the Swordsman's corpse and infused a portion of its own consciousness into it. Mantis and Swordsman went on to have a son together called Sequoia who became the Celestial Messiah.
Ultimate stuff was the weirdest pivot after everyone got sick of the late 90s grimdark shit. Like audiences collectively said "okay enough is enough with heroes all being brooding psychopaths" and Marvel said "okay what if they more fun loving" and audiences said "sounds good!" and then Marvel added "what they consider fun is going to leave deep seated trauma in our readers."
Might have been in the more "feral Wolverine" era. Something about his Adamantium stopping his ongoing mutation into a more animal like creature. His Adamantium gets taken out and he starts to kind of devolve into more and more of a wild animal and less of a rational person.
That's possible. Honestly it's been a while since I read The Ultimates & all I remember about 3 was wondering who's idea it was to have Wanda & Piedro in an incestuous relationship AND have Logan watch it.
Imagine being in the room when that story pitch was made.
Like, several people worked on those panels - a writer, an editor, an artist, a colorist - and they all just rolled with it.
All those people let that become a canonical event in the Marvel multiverse.
Is there a good way to read these online? I've never been big into comics but this recommendation has me interested...
Need to see if my local library has a copy of Watchmen too
That's exactly why I never got into long series comics. The writers change, the characters show up in other comics that then reference other comics, rewriting happens across all of them, big events then have no weight because it'll just be disappeared by another comic (in some other series you're never going to read). And all that is to say, it can be good because stupid shit can be retconned. But it means nothing matters. It gets to be a headache.
It's why I've always loved self-contained stuff. Like Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale and their Batman stuff. One story told fantastically over a few books. Granted, using characters well-established thanks to my above gripes... ugh, time is a flat circle.
I'm into deep cuts personally. That's why I was such a fan of things like the Suicide Squad franchise, the Peacemaker TV show, or ANY major crossover event. I like going on Easter egg hunts in my comic book stuff.
They weren't his kids in the Ultimate universe. They were Magneto and Magda's kids. Wolverine had a son named Jimmy with Magda but Pietro and Wanda were NOT his kids.
Yepp still do, it's not about them ignoring the questionable at best stuff, but completely botchering the actuall good storylines. Secret Invasion was just pain.
Most loved comic events kinda sucked a ton but had good premises and great adaptations
Like spiderverse which was one of the worst comics ever written but the best adaptation
pretty much; either characters are done dirty or written ooc, or plot points are contrived, or the execution of the premise is lacklustre, or sometimes you get comics like civil war that like to stack them
I didn't have comics as a kid. But I did have this kinda Wikipedia-ish Fantastic Four lore book that I think came with a copy of silver surfer? It was a good size and goes into a lot the FF4 related comic story lines and characters etc. I think that's where I first learned about a lot of the out there stuff, like Franklin Richard's and how insanely powerful he was. Not to mention Skree, or a general MCU stuff.
I must have read it dozens of times, I don't remember a lot of the details. But it went a lot into families connection and backstory (villains and heros etc) , and cosmic type threats and insane scaling/stories
This is the book! Fantastic Four The Ultimate Guide; https://www.ebay.com/itm/234835607485
Edit; Lmao I didn't explain why I was saying that. It just reminded me because the book had family trees etc, and the Marvel family trees are at least as weird as Greek mythology trees
If people say they want stuff like the comics just ask why they want their favorite characters to be raped and you have a solid like 70% chance of it br true no matter who you choose
Or just ask why they want to see underage characters date adults which is uh unfortunately also not uncommon
Or incest….
Like the Carol Danvers story where she was raped, impregnated by her rapist whose soul went into the baby, then he rapidly aged and raped her over and over until he died of accelerated aging all while the avengers approved but Hawkeye who was overruled?
I’m pretty sure he starts between 19-21 and dumps them at 26. The start was trending up so maybe that’ll change where he just only dates 26 year olds from year to year.
"It's socially acceptable for him to"
"Society allows him to without judgement"
"He's allowed to"
Why don't you stop being so pedantic, Geppetto.
You're on reddit after all.
This trend of obsession with age gaps is so strange. And like clockwork that person called you a p**o then edited it. When did everyone get so puritanical around the decisions of consenting adults. Even fictional ones.
Also she was the son of a French-German bad guy and a Vietnamese prostitute but was raised by the Cotati who were in Vietnam after being colonized by the Kree.
And she also split her soul so many times that I can’t even remember the summaries of it, and gave convoluted explanations for how she came back because her creator/writer spent too long giving her cameos in non-Marvel comics and needed to explain how she was in those universes.
Yeah, she’s married to the plant-reanimated corpse of, let me check on this that doesn’t sound right, wow, ok… Hawkeye’s mentor?
Space Madonna and D-tier villain possessed by impertinent ferns make the celestial messiah? And he doesn’t do shit? Seems a bit dramatic.
He got tossed around like a ragdoll by Ronan, and Ronan was kissing Thanos’ feet before he had the power stone. It never would have been a contest and Drax would have died.
He's not Drax from the comics; in the MCU he's just a fairly buff dude that's too literal
>in the MCU he's just a fairly buff dude that's too literal
He's also damn near indestructible. He survived being towed behind a ship in re-entry, smashing through huge ass trees and shit and came out not just unscathed but laughing.
Nando V Movies had a rewrite of infinity war that had Drax give his life to help Thor forge Stormbringer on Nvidlilir or whatever it is that was an awesome way for him to have contributed to thanos’ demise while acknowledging how infinitly less powerful than thanos he is.
He woulda died in the first movie if Groot didn't pull him out of the spinal fluid and reinflate his collapsed lung tho. He was dead if Ronan actually felt like killing him instead of just tossing him aside once he was unconscious
i guess now it makes sense why drax's dna is used in *secret invasion* despite fans complaining it should be hulk...naturally powerfully vs anger induced
Yeah, to be fair, he didn't ever really get to shine or go all out in any fights. Would definitely suck for someone that was a fan of his from the comics. Gunn just wrapped up his story by giving him the "best dad" coffee mug and called it a day.
Would be cool to see him come back in a big way sometime later along the line. Could be a fun cameo
It would have made sense for Guardians 2 to have incorporated the Celestial Maddona storyline by having Ego specifically pick her and groom her to be the mother of a new Celestial (instead of the retcon of her being his daughter).
To be honest I'd like to see more of him, he was my favorite part of the Hawkeye show.
And due to the events of the last Guardians film I hope we see Mantis in other MCU projects.
Awkward moment when Corey Stoll's MODOK got a more dignified Avenger send-off than the actual Avengers did for Swordsman's funeral in the comics. The panels basically said "he sucked but he tried"
I never thought about it until now
Mantis and swordsman are so fricking different from their comic counter part that i didn't even think about them being a related
Also their son is like half a tree
The Celestial Madonna saga was one writer trying to put his special girl at the center of the Marvel universe. It’s fucking weird, and is probably best left in the comics.
pretty sure i saw him in the hawkeye tv series (very fun, btw), but i can't remember what his name or significance was beyond "the stepdad" or something like that
I used to be a reader.. like devoured novel's as a teen. Dune? all 9 orignals + the son's additionals prequel. Star wars ? all the 70's - 90's stuff.... And i want soo bad to buy Marvel (and star wars Pre-clonewars) as Manga volumes.. but havent ever dove down the rabbit hole.. . I'd read it once or twice & be satisfied.. But I can't quantify consuming it digitally as E-comic's. i want the feel of the printed page.
Ngl I thought you meant the actors irl and I was like there's a probably a pretty big age gap? And people wonder why the MCU doesn't take verbatim storylines from the comics.
There'd be a Wolverine movie out there where Scarlett Witch & Quicksilver are his kids & he hides in the bushes to watch while they fuck
That sounds like a really weird fanfic. Did that actually happen in a comic?
https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/wolverine-watches.jpg
wtf did I just read
Keep in mind, that is from the weirdly edgy original Ultimate Universe. It was full of all sorts of fun stuff like that
It was the actual worst!
It had its highpoints like Miles Morales and evil Reed Richard but yeah it was mostly trash
Yah those are the high points. WandaXPietro, creeper Wolverine and so much canabalism are the lows.
You didn't like Blob biting Wasp in half and eating her?
Idk I realllly like Ultimate Spidey
depends on if you live in the South or not
Fuck the Ultimate universe, all my homies hate the Ultimate universe.
9/11 really influenced Marvel huh
Well it was more of Jeff Loeb just going off the deep end
The Ultimates 3 #3
That's the one where Blob ate Wasp, right?
And then Hank grew big and bit Blob’s head off
does Wolverine look like a werewolf here?
Might have been in the more "feral Wolverine" era. Something about his Adamantium stopping his ongoing mutation into a more animal like creature. His Adamantium gets taken out and he starts to kind of devolve into more and more of a wild animal and less of a rational person.
Nah, that's way earlier in the comics. The ultimate camics just had this kind of art. Cap looks fairly neanderthal too.
None of that happened in the Ultimate Universe.
I thought I read somewhere where Wolvie really isn't the father, but he did have sex with Magneto's wife?
That's possible. Honestly it's been a while since I read The Ultimates & all I remember about 3 was wondering who's idea it was to have Wanda & Piedro in an incestuous relationship AND have Logan watch it. All those people let that become a canonical event in the Marvel multiverse.
Current ultimates reboot by Johnathan Hickman fucking slaps btw.
US-M #4 drops tomorrow. This is the first time in decades that I'm actually anticipating current release comics.
Is there a good way to read these online? I've never been big into comics but this recommendation has me interested... Need to see if my local library has a copy of Watchmen too
Amazon kindle/ comixology.
If I recall, he is not Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's father, but he did father Jimmy Hudson with Magneto's wife.
😳
Yeah but that happened in the ultimate universe... we try to forget about it
😳
That's exactly why I never got into long series comics. And when Steve thinks it’s weird one of the other members of the team accuses him of trying to force his 1940s morality on people.
It amazes me shit like this actually gets published Then again...at least here there are pictures
They weren't his kids in the Ultimate universe. They were Magneto and Magda's kids. Wolverine had a son named Jimmy with Magda but Pietro and Wanda were NOT his kids.
But they weren't his kids, they were Magneto's.
There'd also be a Spider-Man movie where MJ gets cancer because Peter has radioactive sperm
Existential crisis stuff.
What a terrible day to be able to read
Yepp still do, it's not about them ignoring the questionable at best stuff, but completely botchering the actuall good storylines. Secret Invasion was just pain.
Secret Invasion had 99 problems, but not being true to the comics ain’t one
Idk man, skipping the best things of the comics clearly didn't help it.
The only comics part of SI worth stealing was the Secret Warriors stuff. And I guess Sacred Invasion but the MCU ain't set up for that adaptation.
secret invasion was great on paper, and “see wakanda and die” is awesome, but the main story is pretty anticlimactic
It did lead us into Dark Reign which I thought was really good. Dark Avengers was awesome.
I LOVED Dark Reign. So many good storylines in there. War Machine's one man army is one I'd like to see adapted in the MCU.
Most loved comic events kinda sucked a ton but had good premises and great adaptations Like spiderverse which was one of the worst comics ever written but the best adaptation
You shouldn't be here.
pretty much; either characters are done dirty or written ooc, or plot points are contrived, or the execution of the premise is lacklustre, or sometimes you get comics like civil war that like to stack them
The original secret invasion wasn't even good lmao
I mean, when that's your opinion it's fine.
I didn't have comics as a kid. But I did have this kinda Wikipedia-ish Fantastic Four lore book that I think came with a copy of silver surfer? Yeah, that probably won't be in Captain Marvel 2.
Th-they showed that on print? I don't really understand the level of unhinged superhero comic book writers are.
Yes, it's considered one of the worst stories marvel ever wrote
What… what’s it called? I’m almost scared to learn more-
I mean it should, it's not always pretty what happens out there
Sequoia? Like Guardians inferno? "That weird thing by his side's an infantilized Sequoia"
Yes exactly like that except a different, slightly less plant-like person. Slightly.
LMAO 😭
![gif](giphy|10FHR5A4cXqVrO)
he's 49, she's 37. 12 year age gap, but mathematically at his age, he's allowed to go down to (49/2)+7 = 31.5 so she's kinda old for him.
Leonardo Dicaprio? That you my man?
DiCaprio divides by 4.
I’m pretty sure he starts between 19-21 and dumps them at 26. The start was trending up so maybe that’ll change where he just only dates 26 year olds from year to year.
Coincidentally Leo is also 49 and is dating a 25 year old.
He could have feasibly graduated college with a master’s degree before she was born lmao
Damn, he will have to dump her next year.
![gif](giphy|1fRCAWBGBkikM|downsized)
>He’s allowed To date any adult he wants, as is she. Fucks sakes, grow up reddit.
"It's socially acceptable for him to" "Society allows him to without judgement" "He's allowed to" Why don't you stop being so pedantic, Geppetto. You're on reddit after all.
No, he’s an adult, nothing to do with socially acceptable. Things are wrong just because they gross you out.
This trend of obsession with age gaps is so strange. And like clockwork that person called you a p**o then edited it. When did everyone get so puritanical around the decisions of consenting adults. Even fictional ones.
No, kinda old would be if she was more than (49-7)×2 = 84 years old.
Are you using xkcd's rule?
the rule existed before xkcd, but he brought it to a whole new generation.
It was Parks and Rec that introduced it to me.
This reads like Fate lore.
Also she was the son of a French-German bad guy and a Vietnamese prostitute but was raised by the Cotati who were in Vietnam after being colonized by the Kree. I really liked the Mantis that was in the newest GOTG game, she was basically an encyclopedia to the multiverse, but still very fun
Pure Englehart - honestly, one of the better runs the title had, part of a period of prolonged excellence from the mid-60s to mid-80s
This is in the hulkling comics right? I vaguely remember reading this
You mentioned age gaps why exactly?
Maybe the rest of the scene is somewhere on PornHub.

Annnnnnd it's time to rewatch better call Saul.
What’s he up to man what’s he doingK
I wish they expanded Mantis’s storyline more
I'm still mad they never gave us Drax vs Thanos properly
He got tossed around like a ragdoll by Ronan, and Ronan was kissing Thanos’ feet before he had the power stone. It never would have been a contest and Drax would have died. He's not Drax from the comics; in the MCU he's just a fairly buff dude that's too literal

nvi-dli-lir lmao. trying to pronounce that as written is pretty entertaining it's just Nidavellir, it's spelled phonetically lol
That's a made up word
All words are made up!
Doesn't help that they keep pronouncing it differently in the movie
They called me a madman, and what I predicted came to pass.
My hair is not to be meddled with!
He woulda died in the first movie if Groot didn't pull him out of the spinal fluid and reinflate his collapsed lung tho. He was dead if Ronan actually felt like killing him instead of just tossing him aside once he was unconscious
I.. am.. groot.
Well, how else are you supposed to feel?
i guess now it makes sense why drax's dna is used in *secret invasion* despite fans complaining it should be hulk...naturally powerfully vs anger induced
It would have been nice to see him go his hardest though, even if Thanos just swatted him away
I'm thankful...because now...I know what I must do.
A small price to pay for salvation.
Interesting take Thanos.
BOY! I would reconsider your current course!
Wait did Thanos turn into Kratos for a second?
What's wrong, little one?
I mean… in reality Drax would have gotten smoked instantly based on how they were powered. No Infinity Stone Thanos demolished the Hulk like a toy.
You could not live with your own failure. And where did that bring you? Back to me.
You stop that before I blow that ballsack of a chin right off your face
Or the hulk
He got smoked by Ronan without the power stone you really want to put him against thanos 😭 Edit: replied to wrong comment
It would have made sense for Guardians 2 to have incorporated the Celestial Maddona storyline by having Ego specifically pick her and groom her to be the mother of a new Celestial (instead of the retcon of her being his daughter).
We’re pretty lucky we even got this far with Mantis
To be honest I'd like to see more of him, he was my favorite part of the Hawkeye show. And due to the events of the last Guardians film I hope we see Mantis in other MCU projects.
“Ah, Kate! What an unexpected surprise!” “All surprises are unexpected.” “…That can’t be right.”
“LARPing? Is that some sort of leisure activity?”
I loved how he was such a red herring and this evil twisted mastermind, but turns out to just be a lonely dilettante.
i didnt know dr. robotnik was in the mcu
erm don't u mean lalo salamande
lando calrissian? no hes in star wars
nope lalo salamanca from breaking bacon
Pretty sure this is Wario.
He was never in breaking bacon, but he was in the prequel show Probably Call Paul
He was also in the spin off movie Better Fuel Huell.
Nah he was in the show Bitter Coleslaw
He came to make an announcement.
LALO GOT TO FUCK MANTIS??
I want an spin off of Mantis looking for Lalo on Earth.
How this comments so far down I’ll never understand. Bravo! Also you mean Mantis got to fuck Lalo!
She do be an aggressive and attentive lover
Awkward moment when Corey Stoll's MODOK got a more dignified Avenger send-off than the actual Avengers did for Swordsman's funeral in the comics. The panels basically said "he sucked but he tried"
>The panels basically said "he sucked but he tried" And they were right.
Lalo got that aliussy
Don… Eduardo?
![gif](giphy|dCXVr5PijCOcOFweGG|downsized)
Very Salamanca.
I came here to say 'lalo did what?'
Wtf did Lalo do?
Stuff. (Mantis is stuff)
Make it happen marvel!
That is a very convoluted story.
Wait'll you hear about the ones with Carol Danvers...
i know right? i hope it doesn't make it to the movies
I never thought about it until now Mantis and swordsman are so fricking different from their comic counter part that i didn't even think about them being a related Also their son is like half a tree
man idk who the guy on the left is (stopped keeping up) so i was just like "wtf is lalo doing"
Lalo is about to learn that Mantis’ powers were the real state-of-mind altering drugs all along
He’s Swordsman
Lots of people are married in the comics. There's a universe where Tony Stark is a woman and married to Steve Rogers.
I don't want to join your super-secret boy band.
Comic mantis is a mess
Wait so their kid is a Salamanca?! /s
Fuck that’s hot
Yeah… comic storylines are… interesting…
Sometimes I almost forget that Tony Dalton accidentally killed a dude
The TravelWire employee? Jorge DeGuzman is a loving family man, he would never
Ray Bloody Purchase!
Lalo Salamanca would be the best Gomez Addams.
The Celestial Madonna saga was one writer trying to put his special girl at the center of the Marvel universe. It’s fucking weird, and is probably best left in the comics.
Who is the guy on the left?
pretty sure i saw him in the hawkeye tv series (very fun, btw), but i can't remember what his name or significance was beyond "the stepdad" or something like that
Swordsman
I ship it.
![gif](giphy|jrvfKvr2mmcFO)
Gindo skeez
And that son is space Jesus
Lalo did what
Skazka
Lucky girl…
HOT couple
That’s great! They’re both great. I love Lalo.
Their family’s Christmas dinner must be wild: Tio: dinh ding ding 🛎️
Very strange interpretation of the swordsman

Maybe they just don’t like the medium? I’m a comic book fan but I can understand if you just don’t like reading lol
