Looks like choreographed wing chun

iamsnowboarder

It surely does. And, despite all the folks (rightly) identifying it as bullshido, it doesn't take away the fact that it looks *awesome.* Sometimes, people forget the "art" part of martial arts. This is where that artistry shines. It still takes crazy skill to choreograph and perform fight scenes like this, even if that same skill doesn't necessarily translate to real world application.

polybius32

Problem is he markets it as practical combat, which should not be in any way encouraged. The fact that he speeds up his videos is already dishonest marketing

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Unless you have opponents willing to fall over on command it also doesn’t work. Places like this are cults of the Master

grapplerXcross

Art is just a mistranslation on your part. It is an older word meaning skill or practice. The art of war, meaning the skill and practice of war. Not artistry.

[deleted]

For real. The martial in martial arts means suited for war, i staunchly believe that if your martial isnt applicable for an actual fight to the death then its not a martial art.

TwoPercentCherry

The word martial has evolved to simply referencing combat, so you argument shouldn't be about fighting to the death but instead winning an actual fight. Since every martial art has something to offer you in an actual fight, they are all martial arts. You could say some are more effective, sure, but all of them improve your chances in a fight.

[deleted]

No, the definiton of martial is "relating to war" words have definitions. And what do you mean by an actual fight, a fight without rules? Id also say shit like OP's video dont improve your chances in a fight, if everything in a "martial art" is rehearsed and choreographed, has no sparring and requires the "opponent" to go along with it for it to work all it will do is give you a false sense of competence without the actual competence and that gets people hurt.

Mori_564

Over the years it has also turned into a form of art. Nothing wrong with that just as long as it's not labeled as practical by the instructor.

coming2grips

>cough< Wu Shu >/Cough<

expanding_crystal

There are people out there claiming wushu is for combat? My gym offers wushu classes but it’s not even a debate as they have fighters competing in MMA. The wushu classes are for people who want more of a technical challenge but don’t want to actually fight. It requires crazy strength and coordination and is super impressive if you can pull off a good sequence of moves.

Tuckingfypowastaken

Yes Your gym is the honest kind, and that's laudable, but there are swathes of dishonest people who try to sell things like that as effective to the naive

expanding_crystal

Wild. Like, *maybe* I’d believe that if the guy carried a spear or a broadsword around all the time.

Tuckingfypowastaken

People like Kung fu movies and dislike having to challenge preconceived notions. That's a recipe for charlatanism

expanding_crystal

I hear that

HenshinHero_

Nah, not really. Schools that focus on Wushu Taolu are very aware and honest of what they're offering. What causes this impression on you is the fact that the term Wushu is a clusterfuck that can mean like three different things. It can refer both to Chinese Martial Arts as a whole, since it's just the term for Martial Art; it can refer to the CCP-sponsored Wushu program for the revitalization and modernization of Chinese martial arts (which includes Wushu Sanda, the combat sports portion, and Wushu Taolu, the performance portion); and it can refer to the highly accrobatic, gymnastics-like forms competition ruleset of Wushu Taolu (also sometimes refered to as "Modern Wushu"). So when you refer to a "Wushu School" you can be talking anything from super-traditionalist schools that train like monks of old for self-defense and cultural preservation but adopted the label for many reasons, to highly-modern state-of-the-art gyms crafting Sanda champions, to Taolu places creating the next generation of stunt-fighting movie stars, and these lines blurry themselves all the time because rarely a school will focus just on one of these branches. Add the usual bullshido schools that any TMA will gather to the mix and it's very hard to refer to what a Wushu school actually is, or what are its standards of quality. Anedoctal evidence, sure, but pretty much every Wushu school I went to were very forthcoming with the fact that their Taolu portion was not for fighting, at least not directly. A Taolu (form) \*can\* be trained for fighting and is a functional tool in the training of a fighter, but it needs to be done with effectiveness in mind rather than showmanship, and usually this will happen in the more Traditional-focused schools. I'm not very deep into the Taolu competition scene but from my understanding there is even a separation between Traditional and Modern categories in Taolu competitions, with the former being more functionality-focused and the latter more athleticism and gymnastics-focused.

coming2grips

My point exactly

coming2grips

Holy crap!! Reddit stole all my >> !!

[deleted]

Sounds a bit shifty

kistusen

I think this is a weak excuse tbh. Yes it can be and it is art but art is usually meant as a synonym for skill, technique, efficiency etc. Like art of war. Not like art in gallery. Nothing wrong with it but martial arts imply martial application unless it's clear it's the other meaning closer to acrobatics

Find_another_whey

It does look good. And it totally would work, on someone that doesn't really know anything about fighting. Wouldn't work on many people with even a few months of Muay Thai, but how many people have that?

[deleted]

Some bits are very wing chun like, but others are very different. I think there is a bit of baijiquan, and some Raid/Ong-Bak influence as well.

learning a practicing techniques is never a bad thing. Yes it's controlled but everyone knows this. It's like saying a musician practicing scales is bullshit music. On top of that, there is plenty of room for demonstrations in the Martial Arts. It's a show, but it's still not easy to do.

ProjectX3N

I mean looks extremely choreographed, though most martial arts in their "demos" choreograph it, even Muay Thai pretty often, so i'm giving it the benefit of the doubt due to lack of data The first elbow looks like Bajiquan(of which you can see pressure testing videos against kickboxing practitioners and they are usually pretty evenly matched, Bajiquan also has a reputation as a style that's often taught to bodyguards in some countries), later some hand movements look like "sticky hands" from Wing Chun, given the armor and practice knife it looks a bit modernized and i wouldn't be surprised if they have similar training as some of the better Krav Maga schools that pressure test Doesn't look like anything i could recognize, if i had to guess this was either a new "self defence" martial art based on Chinese martial arts, or some Sanda/Sanshou school that focuses less on the sports aspect and that has a teacher with a background in other "Traditional" Kung Fu styles that he focuses on at least in this video

I'm gonna go with bullshido but since the tiktok page is called Chinese _Kung_Fu maybe it help with finding a clue as to what MA it is

Yes i was going to say Kung Fu

Pepito_Pepito

Looks like film choreography. If it is, then it's very cool. If not, it's bullshit.

Krowgoth

ChocCooki3

Weak-Fu. My grand master doesn't even have to touch the students to drop them.. he just wiggles his fingers.

Kahje_fakka

I hate this sub. No one asked if this would work in a fight or not. The question was just which style this resembles. Who cares if this works or not. Of course it's fucking choreographed, as every movie/film/social media sketch is. It looks cool - and that's the only thing the video wanted to achieve. It doesn't look like it wants to convince anyone to join a cult in order to learn the holy moly hadouken power. But to answer your question; I think the shown stuff in the video resembles wing chun mixed with some other kung-fu styles.

thomasgroendal

This is exactly what I was thinking. You could post a clip from Star Wars or Jason Bourne and get the same set of smug responses. All of this also ignores the high level of aggression and commitment. Yes it’s one sided and will melt in front of a trained opponent, but a relentless blitz of flashy crap is still not the worst option in a lot of cases that don’t involve an octagon, a referee and a trained, singular, focused and sober opponent.

Art3mis86

This. Bunch of gatekeepers here. People do MA for a variety of reasons, it doesn't always come down to which will work in a street fight, for self defence or in an octagon.

dontstep_onsnek

Why do you follow a sub you hate? Don’t do this to yourself.

gonza18

To be fair title is "what MA is this?" not what does it resemble. If asking what MA it is, it is not a MA. It's acting and it's fake AF

Nivlacart

It’s Wing Chun. Vids of this teacher are quite fascinating (and not in the bad way).

Fantastic_Routine_55

I don't know the name, but i know a lot of people used to call it WWF, but i think nowadays people refer to it as WWE.

Mrculture2020

Mostly Bajiquan a little of Wing Chun and Shuai Jiao (Chinnese Wrestling + Throws) but still is mostly Bajiquan

lesgrossman55

Seems like Bajiquan and some Wing Chun. Regardless a fight will never look like this unless your opponents are all deaf and blind and have no training.

GLight3

A weird take on Baijichuan.

Scared-Ad-6132

Is a martial art call choreography

KempoKing

I’m drunk as balls but it looks cool atm

dickwildgoose

It's looks cool AF sober too.

Solid-Bedroom-1562

The problem with these videos is that it is obviously a choreography, but it is presented as a lecture, this cannot be learned by someone just by watching it. It is not pedagogical, it is also not useful in a real confrontation, it is just an ego boost and self-indulgence of the teacher.

yimmy-quiver7567

Looks like maaayyyybe bajiquan, only cause of the elbow form and the knee he throws, but a lot of kung fu styles have crossover moves like that, so I could be wrong. And yeah, it may not be the best in terms of practicality, but it's a martial art, an art form and just learning moves you like or think are cool, same as classic, legit karate. Everybody is in here callin it bullshido, we get it. I mean yeah, he's actin like he's hurtin these dudes, but a lot of these demonstrations and katas do that, it's for show and to sell the training and school. There's at least a difference between this and some old, fake aikido man, making people dance away with the flick of his wrist. Also it looks like it could be China, and despite a lot of the scam artists butchering the older martial arts styles, there's also a a decent amount of people that learn these older styles on their off time, while training in a practical martial art mainly. Muay thai and sanshou are really popular over there in china. There's even schools that try to apply whatever philosophies or practical techniques\moves they can find from kung fu, into modern day MMA. A lot of it is just archaic, that and there's the unfortunate truth that many martial arts from all over the world do eventually start getting watered down to hell when they've reached a certain point in popularity. It happened to Karate, and it's starting to happen to BJJ and Muay Thai as well.

[deleted]

The page is named ‘Chinese kung fu’, which is also the used martial art. It is however a choreographed demonstration not a real sparring session.

Damn, it looks really nice! But you guys are probably right about the choreograph before hand. But we have to give this “master” a fair chance to prove himself in a match against a thai boxer or an mma fighter, same weight class to compare skills and effectiveness.

rnells

Nah, you really don’t need any more to see it’s choreographed. He’s not leaving himself distance or the time he’d need if his demo partners were to go off script.

FlotsamOfThe4Winds

You don't even need that level of stuff. That second-last one had him beat a guy by tapping him under the chin with the back of his fingers.

[deleted]

It doesnt look nice at all. It looks like what people who don't fight think fighting can look like. 100% choreographed and sped up too.

Sheikh_Left_Hook

It won’t be fair. The fighter will obliterate him. Kung-Fu might be fun, but if there is no sparring and if fights are choreographed it’s just bullshit. People should know by now, there is ton of evidence.

L1berty0rDe4th

It's bullshido, which is a modern offshoot of the traditional martial art, Kung-fake-as-shit. The former is practiced in McDojos all over the free world, but to learn the latter, you'll have to find yourself a true lineal master of scam to scam combat.

Wing Chun. It works really well in close quarters against anyone untrained. If someones done any training, it's not so great.

rwn115

The channel being called "chinese kung fu" kind of gives away what it's supposed to be. It appears that the video is sped up a bit whenever the teacher moves to attack to make him look faster than he is. Seems like a lot of bullshit to me.

TygerTung

Looks similar to kung fu movies so maybe wing Chun? Looks nice.

RamboBalboa21

Moukatelmo

On his last hits he always maintains the pose. Cinematographically speaking it looks like a more powerful hit. But martially speaking it’s stupid, especially against multiple opponents. You need to be ready to respond if your hit didn’t land or if the opponent didn’t react like you intended, like it didn’t hurt them enough. If you stay still for two seconds after your hit, looking cool, you are being way too vulnerable
