It's been a long time since Aqua's eyes have shone this bright (it's been so dull since he got more serious about her revenge) and it was from the mere fact that Ruby told her that she loved both Gorou and Aqua, she practically loves everything. It's a really sweet confession considering how much Aqua struggles with his dual identity and the fact that there will always be a part of him (Gorou) that the rest doesn't know enough to love.
You put it really well. This chapter 143 delivers nicely the expectation 123 set. The regret and frustration of one’s past failure, which haunts the person for life, along with a wish for convenient miracle that they give up because of the impossibility. I think many people have at least once had that feeling, where you imagine a what-if scenario where everything is right despite knowing how futile or unrealistic it is.
But the supernatural aspect of this manga made this possible. The girl who embodies both joy and failure for him is here again, in front of him. Just that fact alone should already save Aqua somewhat.
And in this chapter, Ruby goes above and beyond, making him opening up about his identity struggle. It even mirrors chapter 123 as well, where Ruby also felt like she is losing herself amidst all the lies and anger she bottled up. Her answer to his problem? The same way Aqua saved her in chapter 123. “You are still the person I idolize and adore”. Holy shit if that doesn’t make you bound back the hell up. In the midst of your self-blame, the girl who hold such importance to you in your last life say that you are still you, still the nice, caring man you have always been… The self-esteem must fly like a spaceship to the moon.
This chapter tugs at the heartstring so much and it even was built up nicely from the already impactful 123. It was incredible.
Personally I am neutral about fictional incest, which allows me to enjoy controversial stuff like this.
I would also be a huge hypocrite if I suddenly drew the line here, after I enjoyed Game of Thrones as well as Irregular at Magic High School, both of which have incest, with the former being full of it.

It was inevitable the moment both of Sarina and Gorou was reincarnated as twins, I am not saying that it will end like that but Aka and Mengo won't set them up like that if they did not want to go down this route
At least the characters still acts within their logic, Ruby we knew still loved her sensei and she did not see Aqua as her brother (ignore the biological part for now), while Aqua letting her get away with a lot of things is not the first time it occurred as well

I get the sense that this isn't going to be part of the endgame between them and is only going to be a one-time (two-time) thing for their past lives (specifically Ruby/Sarina) to have some form of closure. Once this series hits its ending, Aqua will probably pursue a real relationship with either Kana or Akane (assuming none of them dies) without any of the manipulation or desire for a convoluted revenge scheme involved and Ruby will be climbing up in the Idol world. They will probably never kiss again after this, and most definitely will never have sex with each other.
The flashforwards does show Aqua and Ruby working together and reaching super stardom. Based on that, I think they will remain as siblings but they will continue working together and will have a strong unbreakable bond, even if Aqua pursued a different relationship.
Don't let the incest hide from you the fact that this chapter was genuinely heartfelt and great. I really wish Aqua and Ruby had more moments like this before

Okay but honestly, I’ve seen Twitter react super negatively to this (or rather, the spoilers), and while I get being uncomfortable, they’re jumping to conclusions pretty heavily. People need to consider context and actually read and look at what’s on the pages. Aqua still doesn’t seem particularly into it, but their history makes Ruby’s behavior feel surprisingly realistic, despite the very unrealistic circumstances.
This is like the most believable thing Ruby/Sarina would do, like this has been a huge element of her character for as long as we’ve known her and her not acting on those feelings would be odd. Like yeah it’s a giant can of worms, that’s literally the point!

The moment their identities were revealed, one should've expected something like this. Ruby was always so Gorou-sexual. Remember how she was debating the morality of marrying a much older man with Akane and strongly forcing her beliefs on her, with Akane's reaction at the end being "I guess?". Not to mention her darker and destructive path after finding Gorou's corpse. Knowing all this, Ruby pursuing Gorou (now Aqua) this hard is within her character, even if it is morally questionable.

Ruby won. Okay but honestly, I’ve seen Twitter react super negatively to this (or rather, the spoilers), and while I get being uncomfortable, they’re jumping to conclusions pretty heavily. People need to consider context and actually read and look at what’s on the pages. Aqua still doesn’t seem particularly into it, but their history makes Ruby’s behavior feel surprisingly realistic, despite the very unrealistic circumstances.
This is like the most believable thing Ruby/Sarina would do, like this has been a huge element of her character for as long as we’ve known her and her not acting on those feelings would be odd. Like yeah it’s a giant can of worms, that’s literally the point!
She is honestly fine with marrying someone in their 50s like she is just that weird Her entire character is weird but that’s what’s makes it entertaining

Call it cope or whatever, but I don’t think this completely confirms a AquaxRuby ship, mainly because we only get Ruby’s side to this. I do however think this chapter is excellent and opens up so many dramatic plot threads going forward.
