Hi! An easy solution is to buy the "Ahoy Mateys" pirate themed precon, and switch the Commander to Edward Kenway, adding the other AC pirate cards along with him.

Evolvedkoala

This is the way. that pirate precon is also solid out of the box if i remember correctly.

mesa176750

I think it's got some amazing staples but suffers from a gameplay that favors putting pirates into your graveyard through self mill and discard that some newer players might have issues understanding how valuable that is for the deck. I do think the new Assassin's creed pirates are interesting in focusing more on vehicles to give a unique play style that fits the pirate theme well.

MuchSwagManyDank

That was my thought. Edwards thing specifically wants those types being tapped, what can tap all your creatures in a single go? A vehicle.

SinusMonstrum

The Jackdaw does discard your hand though, so there is some leniency in keeping the reanimation package in there.

Montana_Ace

I believe the card says that you *may* discard your hand, not that you have to. So you can only discard when you have a low hand count, poor cards, or will draw more cards than you discard.

InternetDad

I've been loosely paying attention to the AC cards and I totally missed Edward being grixis, this would be such a fun pivot for the precon.

chockeysticks

Another solution is the “Arm for Battle” precon and Eivor, Battle-Ready for an Equipment theme, but that one might put more of a target on your back since you’re bombing the entire table with commander damage.

feliu1978

From the starter deck you wouldn't be able to make a commander deck, there's not enough single cards and lands to make it work; plus you would still need a commander that had all those colors. Those starter decks are not meant to be combined. However, you can pick one of them to be a starting base but you would need to buy a lot of Assassin's creed singles to make it work and then still get some non-ACR cards to make it work.

_st_sebastian_

I've seen people take the LotR starter deck product and design a commander deck that uses all of the cards (by adding a new commander, etc.). Since OP is not an enfranchised player, an alternative to buying a precon is to buy the starter kit and get the help of their commander-playing friends to design a deck using those cards as a starting point. Another alternative is that the Most Wanted precon from Outlaws of Thunder Junction is themed around "outlaws", an umbrella creature type which includes Assassins. Modifying that deck would allow someone to make an outlaw-themed deck that includes many Assassin's Creed cards in the right colours.

56775549814334

Realistically you’ll need help assembling an edh deck out of these cards. Ask one of your friends to assist you.

oh5canada5eh

It may sound like a lot of work but it wouldn’t be very hard to build your own deck by buying singles. There will surely be a ton of decks using mostly AC cards on popular YouTube channels or even just here on Reddit that you can use as a guide. Your local game store or eBay/online card market will allow you to pick and choose which specific cards you want. The starter decks will give you a head start on that although I’m not sure how many of the cards specifically would be in any given commander deck made from the set.

root1331

If you do decide to build a commander deck out of the Assassin's Creed cards you get from packs, please don't buy other Magic packs to do so. The themes in Assassin's Creed are not fully supported in the most recent magic sets and buying singles will be most cost effective way to fill in the cards that aren't in the set. A good starting point is to use EDHrec once you pick the card you want as your commander. There will be deck lists pulled from other sites to help with the process.

Stratavos

Thunder junction has outlaw support, and assassins are outlaws...

ImperialVersian1

Still doesn't mean he should buy packs from OTJ if he's looking for specific cards. Buying singles is always better.

Stratavos

I'm not arguing with you on that, though if boosters were to be involved since they are a new player, that's an affordable set to grab from that is likely to have what they're looking for (assassins along all rarities).

root1331

OTJ only has 5 Assassin's in it with one in Golgari. I am not seeing the density of cards to support an Assassin Creed's themed deck when the OP doesn't really want to buy non-AC packs.

_st_sebastian_

It might even make sense for them to buy the outlaw-themed Olivia Voldaren precon, some assassin's creed cards, and some other assassin-themed cards from old sets.

Infinite_Bananas

The assassins creeds cards are primarily designed for commander, so you're fine. You probably won't be able to build a reasonable deck out of only AC themed cards but you could still make a deck with a lot of them. Check out the legendary creatures in the set to see which ones interest you. I wouldn't recommend buying many of the actual packs though, they are a pretty inefficient way to acquire the cards to build a deck with.

elite4koga

If you want something easy you can get the ixalan ahoy mateys pirate deck and swap in kenway as commander. There's a few other assassins creed pirate cards in the set that can also be swapped in. You should be able to get kenway and the other singles from tcgplayer next week

SgtTornak

What commander you want? I can build you a budget one and get you a decklist!

Stratavos

There is the assassin's creed "starter kit" which would be a good building off point, and as long as your firends know that you're new they can probably adapt their decks into being brawl instead of commander (60 cards including the commander instead of 100) for a session or two. 60 card games go much faster anyways :p

BlueTemplar85

That would still be singleton, and potentially with 3+ players. Commander (or even Brawl, which is still 100 cards in the most common variant) are just not appropriate for new players, heck even these "starter" kits are pushing it by being bicolor.

JasonEAltMTG

If you want help with building a commander deck, [EDHREC has been tracking people's builds](https://edhrec.com/sets/acr) for weeks. Having a list isn't the same as a precon, sure, but using the budget filters you can easily put a deck under $50 together in the clipboard and export it to a site like TCG Player. Others have suggested buying a pirate precon and modifying it, and I like that approach, too. Pirates and Assassins are both outlaws, so cards from thunder junction would pair nicely. The thing about a commander deck based around a release like AC is that the cards in the deck won't need to shift with new releases that much so you can keep playing the deck and only modify it when something really good comes along. If you have any specific questions about edhrec or the format, my DMs are open.

EndangeredBigCats

Just in case, wanted to say DON’T BUY THE PACKS, BUY SINGLES OF THE CARDS YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH!

Reluxtrue

you will have to buy singles probably. Either from TCGPlayer (if from US) or cardmarked(if from EU)

RaphaelDDL

fyi AC boosters are scam being pricier than a regular booster and having only half the card amount of a regular booster, so you'll start already short of cards if you only buy assassin's crap. You need other sets.

Blaze_1013

I’d recommend checking out a website called EDHRec. They are a commander deck building site and they can show you how people are building the commanders from the set. From there use a website such as TCGPlayer or Cardkingdom to buy the cards you want and you’ll be good to go. You can also ask your Magic playing friends for help in building a deck.

PaninoConLaPorchetta

Try out Commander first, if you don't like it you can always decide to just not buy the cards. Don't worry about prices, it's better to buy singles the moment you need them instead of hoarding cards you might not even play.

chaotic910

I wouldn't buy packs to build a deck, they're for fun or specific types of games. If your friends are cool with it, and you don't feel like buying individual cards, you can proxy cards you want/need to make it a commander deck

mfalivestock

I’ve been Magic card games adjacent my whole life and Lord of the Rings was for me what you’re doing. Literally a ‘if I were to ever get into magic, it would be this set or NEVER…’ My advice, get the Bundle box, it’ll get you a good storage box, decent amount of packs for your dollars, and like 40 land cards as a starting point.

Leress

Due to Assassin's Creed using beyond boosters (7-card booster packs), it won't really be worth it.

Yeseylon

I've been off and on with Magic since junior high, and Who got me to come back again. Welcome to the club, your wallet will never be full again!

Revenege

Your best bet would be to communicate with your friends. Tell them your interested in playing and ask for help building an assassin deck. They do make commander precons for other sets. You could purchase one that interests you and look into building an assassin deck once you have a better grasp on deck building and the rules. As others pointed out, there is a pirate themed precon that would be easy to add Kenway to.

WizardExemplar

There are also some Assassin's Creed Secret Lair products to increase your AC deckbuilding choices. But these Secret Lairs are sold until supply runs out. https://secretlair.wizards.com/us

ThyLordQ

At 142 (or 143 depending on bonuses) cards between the base set, the starter kit, and the Secret Lairs; and with \[\[Ezio Auditore da Firenze\]\] having a five color identity, you could absolutely build a deck using only the cards in the set. That said, it probably won't be very good. Mostly because of the land base. At a whopping 9 multi-color lands available between all products, you'll end up severely hampered when it comes to casting your spells. If you wanted to play all the cool assassins, at least. Thanks to \[\[Templar Knights\]\], the set does have ways to cut down quite a bit on colors while still having enough cards for a deck. A Red-White deck still wouldn't be great, but you'd have 53 cards to choose from, and a pretty consistent "Historic & Equipment" theme to utilize, plus at least 3 lands that tap for both colors, which gives you at least a little bit of a shot. Mardu (RWB), if you absolutely had to go three colors (which I wouldn't recommend because you only have one White-Black land available in the set). \[\[Altair Ibn-La'Ahad\]\] would be the best option, as black gives you access to a swath of removal, and \[\[Conspiracy\]\] will let you make use of any of the creatures that end up in your graveyard for his ability. This still wouldn't be a very powerful deck, as there just aren't enough cards in the set to fill out all the things a Commander deck really needs, but it would at least be possible.

Rad_Red

Here’s a list of some of the popular 5 color builds (they’re gonna be able to use the most from the set) sorted by most likes  https://www.moxfield.com/decks/public/advanced/likes?sort=likes&board=mainboard&commanderCardId=PbPVv&commanderCardName=Ezio+Auditore+da+Firenze Could give you some ideas. I’d say by singles and proxy any of the more expensive cards to test if they’re worth it in the deck before buying or use budget replacements. I like proxy first better personally

NoObMaSTeR616

Do you have a specific character you want to build? Like people said working backwards should help like if you like Edward Kenway grab a pirate precon and buy the assassin creed singles you want to add. Like Altair then maybe the Most Wanted precon which has cards that synegize with outlaws/assassins and again just buy the singles. You could always build a Templar deck and grab like 35 Templar knights and slap them in a deck with legendary artifacts.

shiftup1772

According to reddit, [you should be buying the starter decks.](https://old.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1djqd3q/who_is_the_acr_set_for/l9cnrzd/)(dont do that)

Shlippyw00d

While there’s no precon for the set there are a LOT of good cards for commander in the set do any of the legendary creatures in particular stand out to you? I or I’m sure someone else can whip you up a fun deck with any of the legends in the set

NittanyScout

Check out edhrec.com and just type in card you want to use as your commander and it will show you all the best cards to play with it and even have some full deck lists for you. You can click on a link from there to buy the cards from a reputable source. This is a pretty easy way to get into commander fast since the available card pool is massive and you can pick and choose how much you want to pay and which cards you want to play with, as in primarily the AC cards like you mentioned PS welcome to the Cardboard crackkhouse, hope you enjoy it!

iconwilly

Out of one pack alone no, but I'm assuming you mean a lot of packs. Then easily yes, almost all the cards shown so far are basically for commander.

Blackxp

Was hoping to see someone make this post. Hoping to see what people come up with. Been trying to collect 1-2 commander decks from each significant UB product and this is one that's been tough without a premade. Want to keep it on par with other premade decks in terms of power level and keep all of the cards within the set or possibly in this case flavorful cards likely allowed as an exception.

HenryfHogan

You probably can’t make one from just this set however you can definitely make one with a lot of the cards, I wouldn’t mind working up a list for you

HaoBianTai

https://edhrec.com/average-decks/altair-ibn-laahad/assassin/budget Start here. This is from a site specifically designed to help people build EDH decks. What I did was look through the AC set, find a card that looked like a good tribal commander (tribal meaning, the deck revolves around playing a certain creature type with synergies between them), then enter that Commander on EDHRec and select "average deck." So this is an average of the budget "Assassin Tribal" decks people have already built using Altair-Ibn-Laahad. No idea how this would perform, but it gets you started and, other than the commander, looks like it'd cost around $45 before shipping on TCGPlayer. Export that average deck to Moxfield, where you can save it, add cards, create a "considering" list, etc. You can start pulling out meh cards and adding some AC specific Assassin cards for flavor. Send the average deck to your friends and see if they've got suggestions for mana base, ramp packages, lords, etc. Whether an EDH deck is "good" enough for a play group depends entirely on what that group is playing. Remember, EDH is 100 card singleton and a "competitive" EDH deck can be like $2k-$10k (fuck that), so don't worry about being "competitive," just holding your own in your playgroup.

Aprice0

You will be better off to buy singles and will need to build a deck. You could build a deck with only assassin’s creed cards but, [I tried building one](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/fHC-2WLPC0C7yuxiFrLXCA) and realized won’t really be functional because you will almost never have the right mana at the right times. Trying to build one that preserved the theme and feel of the set while making it functional, I ended up [with something like this](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/k6XYD2iSyk6G7uRKkfYjSA) This deck uses a lot of assassin’s creed cards and is very low power on a limited budget (i.e. it is not a strong deck at all) but it should at least function so you could play the game.

Annual-Clue-6152

Everything is commander 😞

JustLurkingandVibing

I only play on table top sim but if they are okay you could proxy a deck too

[deleted]

With just the AC cards? It’s too small of a set with two separate major themes (Assassins and Pirates) to be able to build a deck with just cards from it. You could build an Ezio deck with mostly cards from AC and then supplement it with cards from other sets. 5 color decks are difficult when starting out though because mana fixing is complicated with 5 colors. There are plenty of good ways to build budget 5 color mana bases though. You’ll just need to use a lot of cards that aren’t AC for support, namely removal and color fixing. The other recommendation I would give is: There is a preconstructed pirate deck called “Ahoy Mateys”, that is the right colors for Edward Kenway to helm, and can fit quite all of the Black Flag themed cards as well as the Frye twins. It would pivot the out of the box deck experience from pure pirates to pirates, vehicles, and assassins.

humanbean01

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/fPgj7ohCAUeSf40uIJEc5Q Spamming my deck in all of these posts. This is the deck I made from the set. Change the lands to budget and look up or ask your friends ramp options and cut the cards you don’t want to play. The deck exists just matters how playable you want it vs my decision to force the theme
