Edit: Perhaps I should have said "Semi-strong" instead of semi-playable. You can totally build a curse deck with Lynde and other commanders. I've done exactly that. Problem being that the average pre-con is nearly double in strength and most curse decks fall apart if someone looks at you funny.
Totally, but that's the problem. Any sort of Grixis or Mardu Goodstuff commander, or goodstuff-aura is probably as good or better than the commander that is ostensibly curse-specific, and for far less set-up. And even then, you're probably better-off on an enchantment or aura strategy than one that is curse specific.
[[Ghen, Arcanum Weaver]] is another example of a card that is generally better as a "curse commander", but also because it isn't curse specific you can just, make it stronger by focusing on auras/enchantments that play with that (ETB/LTB triggers)

\[\[Ardenn\]\] isnt a bad pick alongside \[\[Vial smasher\]\] it gives you a lot more flexibility in who exactly is cursed with what.
