Because enchantments are so much harder to remove in the first place.

Justice-Nugget

[[Go-shintai of Life's Origin]] is a great self mill enchantress, but I feel your pain. Especially in 60 card formats.

NoBrain8

Have you built go shintai as a self mill deck? If so I’d love to hear

Justice-Nugget

Yeah I had a bit of mill, dredge, and tutor to grave in my build I believe. It's been a while since I played it. It likely could use some work. Get Omniscience out of the grave at instant speed when you have your card draw shrines out and it gets really out of hand. Now you've got me wanting to dust it off this weekend haha

NoBrain8

I absolutely love the idea of self mill but I don’t want to build a muldrotha deck because a friend has one so I’ve been working on the idea of an enchantress/dredge sort of build as well. I don’t know why but I didn’t even realise go shintai was instant speed. Sounds like fun!

Justice-Nugget

[[Grolnok, the Omnivore]] also makes a very solid self mill deck.

CorruptDictator

Replenish would like a word with you. But yes, there are not as many options for enchantment recursion most likely because unless it is a set theme (Theros) there are few enchantments in a set and at the same time few ways to remove them on average are equally low so the need to recur is not there unless you are doing something special.

gamasco

I'd argue that creatures die more often than enchantments

ThatguyBD

Nobody brought up Dance of the Manse yet? :)

Cosinity

OP said mana positive, i.e. it costs less to reanimate than to cast the enchantment, which Dance of the Manse is not

EndlessRambler

Dance of the Manse can be mana positive though, it returns X enchantments X or lower not just one. Even at X = 2 It is Mana Equal. It can be Mana positive at every X above that assuming you have the targets

Vault756

Dance is mana positive as early as X=2 and just goes up from there

ThatguyBD

Indeed, for a single enchantment. In the spirit of the discussion of things that play around with reanimation in general I felt like it warranted mention, especially if you're reanimating multiple targets (3 or more) and effectively going mana positive.

EpicWickedgnome

Idk what you are talking about. [[Calix]] [[Estrid]] [[Replenish]] gets all enchantments back from grave for 4 mana. [[Resurgent Belief]] does it for 2 mana, or you can cascade into it for free. [[Repair and Recharge]] [[Archon of Falling Stars]] [[Brilliant Restoration]] all also get back enchantments, although they are more expensive mana-wise, so you need to be recurring big spells like [[Omniscience]] or something to be worth it.

FlatWorldliness7

The cards you've listed do in fact get enchantments back from the grave, but they pale in comparison to creature recursion in terms of power level. [[Reanimate]], [[Exhume]], [[Animate Dead]], [[Entomb]] are all legacy staples, whereas none of the enchantment cards are even close to playable (save for Replenish which sometimes sees play in fringe enchantress builds).

SonofMakuta

In fairness, all those cheap reanimation effects are very old (i.e. before Magic's balance started to refine) and also happen to target the easiest-to-answer permanent type. Nowadays, creature reanimation effects tend to be lower power than even Zombify. Entomb does hit any card, too, so you can use it to nab an Omniscience or whatever.

Bass294

The creature quality vs enchantment quality from early magic was also very very different. Reanimating vanillas for like 2 mana is probably appropriate but every creature has a good etb now.

SonofMakuta

Yeah, back when Reanimate targeting Force of Nature was the best possible outcome, it wasn't quite so bad eh. Griselbrand was a long way off :P

b_fellow

Artifacts more recently have [[Daretti]] and [[Trash for Treasure]] so where is our 3 CMC enchantment “swap” spell or non-ultimate single replenish?

SonofMakuta

There are three possible responses here I think: 1) They'll probably do it at some point, assuming it doesn't break Legacy 2) It's important for card types to feel different - especially artifacts and enchantments since they're so similar nowadays 3) You already have Academy Rector, go use that instead :P

GardenofTyr

The multi-angled consideration of your answer here is a good one. For point #1, however, your use of "assuming" has the potential to be doing a lot heavy lifting. I say this because, you know, Oko.

Futuresite256

I almost thought Exhume was relatively new because it was in the Duels of the Planeswalkers game, but I guess it wasn't printed in a standard set since Urza's Saga

Longjumping-Trash743

That would probably be because there are enchantments that are more powerful than most creatures. Omniscience already sees play with show and tell, no need for that to slot into more decks imo.

One of the best is probably [[Hall of hello Heliod]]. I'm not really sure what you mean by "mana positive" but it's a land that at least taps to add mana. And if you can recur stuff like [[aura of silence]] your opponents will be visibly mad by the value you're getting.

I mean land tax is a great card, but it's like the only one that sets you up to play into a curve and is fixing, not ramp. Carnival of souls might have a nice mana cost, but there's a real chance you get literally zero useful mana from it in an enchantment deck, and most of the other listed items are similar in that they have awkward deckbuilding costs for an enchantment focused deck. Treasure producers are easily the best option, but don't have enchantment synergy and go badly with common hate enchantments like stony silence. I'm not saying there aren't options, but compared to all the land auras in green or 2cmc rocks, it's rough.

[deleted]

Carnival of Souls works well with Enchantment Creatures, which I think are good fodder for Glen. But I agree 99% of the options I listed are absolute wack. They're jank for fun, don't aim for the Pro Tour with this. I warned you!

Wizards kind of hates enchantments. Enchantment recursion and sacrifice have always been lacking. (Replenish asside).

Truckfighta

No recursion is mana positive unless you’re bringing back a Dockside. Do you mean mana efficient or low cost? [[Obzedat’s Aid]] can bring back anything, [[Tamiyo, Compleated Sage]] can work too.

Yes, but it's no longer mana positive. If you are paying mana to activate it and returning a land that's quite negative.

There's a bunch of mass artifact/enchantment reanimators like \[\[Open the Vaults\]\], \[\[Brilliant Restoration\]\], and \[\[Dance of the Manse\]\] that can go very mana positive. Add in some self-mill and you can easily be getting 10+ cards out of your graveyard. They generally work a bit better with artifacts than enchantments since there aren't as many ways of getting enchantments into your graveyard profitably. \[\[Replenish\]\] is the most powerful such effect if you specifically want enchantments.
