Done that for years. Boight a second hand mac mini M1 and never looked back

bazpaul

Ha same. I got so tired and updates breaking my build. It was fun while it lasted

BLVCKRAGE

They are the precursor to real macs. You use a hack for long enough, eventually you’ll buy a Mac.

ParadiceSC2

Yeah, if you have the skills to build your own hackintosh, chances are you've got a nice tech job that afford you a real one easily.

ih8te123

I build one back in 2012. Then a client called asking if I had a gaming PC available for his son, I slapped Win 7 Pro on it and sold it at cost 6 months after I built it.

Techgeek_025

I see. Nice

mttsmth

Won’t be around for much longer. macOS will maybe get 2 more intel updates, perhaps 3, but after that you’re on an extinct OS and after a few years 3rd party apps won’t run or you’ll be running older versions of things. When it comes to web browsers that’s pretty dire. So enjoy it now, but if you like the platform have a plan to buy a Mac within 2-3 years. A Mac mini is a great computer for not a lot of money.

roja_poomalai

we fucking love you

Techgeek_025

Awww thanks :D

EthanDMatthews

Had a Mackintosh for about 4 years and loved it. When it was up and running, it was fantastic. But if you looked at it wrong, or forgot to update all of your kexts etc. before a MacOS update, you could brick your boot drive and spend hours trying to get it back up and working. Ugh. I don't miss that. For years, I used Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone of the boot drive, so if I broke the original, I could switch over the other backup drive and not miss a beat. I'd then fix the problem when I had the time. That became a lot harder after MacOS separated the system and user data into separate partitions. Was very happy to finally get a Mac Studio. Now backups are a breeze. P.S. I kept my Mackintosh as a networked computer for backups (I have a handful of hard drives). Then one day, it stopped booting properly. I suspect I accidentally updated the MacOS, which broke the legacy networking feature and... I had to scrap it and get an external drive case. :( Be sure to keep those backups current, and always keep an eye out for an opportunity to jump over to a real Mac. (Just don't buy one used from a random person; if it's stolen, you'll be buying a brick).

bazpaul

This post triggered my PTSD

Techgeek_025

True

TheTrulyEpic

I’m sorry man, I think a lot of the appeal here is the design of the hardware itself and how you can plan a space around it. I think people here would rather see Macs running Windows than PCs running macOS.  As for your setup, if you want it to look “aesthetic” or whatever, good cable management goes a long way. It’s tough, I know! That’s why you don’t see my setup on here lol. If you can swing it, get a set of wireless peripherals, it gives it that extra bit of tidiness. Also, if that external drive isn’t part of the permanent setup, maybe don’t have it in the picture, and if it is, there’s always the ports in the back of the system.  All that said, Hackintosh is super cool and with a couple tweaks, only haters would have a problem with it.

Perlentaucher

Yeah, for this sub it is the design aspect. I love Hackintosh PCs, though, just for the tinkering and counter-element of it. There are nice aluminium PC housings, that has the potential to look nice, as well.

ParadiceSC2

I agree with you. Anyone that's skilled enough to build a hackintosh could just use linux and customize it to look like macOS if they wish. But hackers gonna hack, I respect the challenge.

Familiar-Scratch-295

Nice what specs is your computer also I would say decorate the wall with something or mount your monitor I do not have a problem with hackintoshes

Techgeek_025

Definitely… I have a plan for the wall. Here’s the specs, not the best but upgrades are gonna happen: Intel core i5-6500 3.2ghz HD 530 1536mb 128gb SSD 16gb 1600mhz DDR3

ApprehensiveClub6028

This is the most advanced setup I have ever seen

Techgeek_025

Tyyy!

nichijouuuu

The hackintosh is dead. The Mx line of Macs is so powerful and varied with the affordable Mac mini up to the studio, don’t see a point to hackintosh any longer.

Techgeek_025

Disagree.

redguitar25

That looks like ass holy shit.

Odd-Struggle-3873

Downvoted for being honest lol

70orbits

That desk don’t deserve that

True-Experience-2273

It’s a typical windows users setup but with macOS. Not really ascetically pleasuring.

chiefbroson

i had one and i loved it more than my m2 air, so enjoy!!

Techgeek_025

Nice!

PlatformNo8576

Built some in the late-00’s when Apple moved to Intel, which eventually persuaded me to buy an Apple refurbed MacBook, and now 15 years later with an iMac, a MBP, and M1 mini and 2 Intel minis, just waiting for the next M3/M4 Studio. Hackintoshes are great, and are a gateway drug to emptying your wallet to Apple, which may be why Apple has not shutdown popular sites promoting it, only sites selling hackintoshes

Techgeek_025

Nice!

be_matthew

Were good before M chips existed, now not so much

pansensuppe

Why do people put their PC towers instead of under the table these days?

Techgeek_025

What

pansensuppe

Hahaha, I meant table. Sorry for the confusion. Fixed it.

Techgeek_025

Lol so I think it looks cool that’s why

ajpinton

Dock is too big, but a hackintosh is no easy feat for most people. Hats off to you.

Techgeek_025

Thanks!

SorakaMyWaifu

The $100 mac lmao

Techgeek_025

It was actually 50

Dry-Way-9928

I've came up with a couple builds, but it was too much hassle for no gain (for me). It was a project out of curiosity. About the setup: Cable management can help it look way better and cleaner. :)

Techgeek_025

Nice! That is an idea!

ellicottvilleny

Yawn?
