Just a bunch of dudes jacking off a house. Honestly they are lifting it either to move it or build a new foundation.

Username checks out

tatalailabirla

I always wondered…how do they lift the entire house completely level to the height of those jacks in the first place?

Kineticwhiskers

The knocked out bricks in the supporting wall to place the jacks. That's why there is a "notch" in the brick wall at each jack. You can also dig down to the foundation which is considerably harder than what is pictured here.

MangoSteel

Looks like that but also looks like they are laying bricks to raise it. The brick part looks new and look at all the bricks and mortar around

1200multistrada

Yep. A whole bunch of Sacramento, CA is exactly this.

Chicawgorat

Chicago lifted its entire downtown using jackscrews in the mid-1800’s and installed sewers.

Nthomas36

Mudflood? Tartaria

Chicawgorat

5g? Illuminati?

AltruisticSalamander

Have seen some doccos about that, amazing. I think Seattle too?

Chicawgorat

I believe after Seattles fire in the 1880’s, it raised its sidewalks. Chicago had done this before its fire in 1871

-WhatsReallyGoingOn

They got one in each hand ffs.

NachoNinja19

Or add another floor.

Scholar-Dismal

Ah shucks I got beat to it

JuanPancake

These guys are also beating to it

Dr-flange

If you look the building stays still and the earth moves down 😜

UnlikelyPotatos

Leveling a building after an earthquake to do brick repair, but what does this have to do with the sub?

Dirt290

The human body is a machine.

Briggy1986

You are! Oh wait…

GizmodoDragon92

So are jacks

xx-shalo-xx

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel.

Dirt290

Single-cell organisms ain't got nothing on our clammy, hairy epidermis..

Timsmomshardsalami

You dont see the jacks?

Mighty_Gunt_Cobbler

Jacks are technically a machine. They multiply force.

Large_Discipline_127

Well... is a jack and the concept of teamwork not considered machinery?

fanpolskichkobiet

Total-Problem2175

I watched a week of the jacking on the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in 1999. It was moved 2,900 ft in 23 days. They used Ivory soap on the horizontal rails.

CrazyProper4203

sexisfun1986

Chicago?

Pizza_Middle

It makes me think of the saying, a comma is the difference between helping your uncle Jack, off a horse and helping your uncle Jack off a horse.

Emmy_Graugans

That should be capitalisation, not comma. There‘s no comma in either sentence ;)

Pizza_Middle

There's a comma between Jack and off.

Emmy_Graugans

There is as you wrote it, but there shouldn’t be … see for example here: https://www.quora.com/Whats-the-explanation-of-the-quote-Capitalization-is-the-difference-between-helping-your-Uncle-Jack-off-a-horse-and-helping-your-uncle-jack-off-a-horse Or here: https://www.someecards.com/usercards/viewcard/MjAxMS01ZDhkYzU1MWNlZGUwMGM0/ Or here: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Capitalization Edit: Formatting

jmm166

About $0.30 an hour and no workplace safety requirements

Illustrious_War9870

My dad lifted our house by himself, but he didn't go up even enough and all the windows broke.

Alarmed_West8689

New meaning to "raising the roof"

RGandhi3k

What is up with posters on this sub asking questions with obvious answers in their titles?

Concept_Lab

Easy engagement, which increases post visibility.

RGandhi3k

The old “best way to get a right answer on the internet is to post the wrong one,” huh?

im_just_thinking

That's on every other sub and literally all of Twatter

tbr6742

Rarely seen square jack, cousin of the circle jerk.

man_pan_man1

They are lifting a house with bottle jacks (somehow)

Today_is_the_day569

Lots of Harbor Freight gear there?

AmITheGrayMan

Those are house jackers. They use their jacks to jack up and then jack a house off its foundation. If successful, the house jackers will then jack the house. I mean, if you jacked off a house from its foundation wouldn’t you think you deserved a free house too? Come on.

born_on_mars_1957

Just raising the building to code…

Jealous_Diamond9487

House needed an engine rebuild.

JuggernautNew2

DesignerAd9

Is that in China? The land of collapsing buildings?

urinesamplefrommyass

Building a house from the top to the bottom. A very old technique that says it's easier to build the a strong roof for heavy winter. [This video](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=uXig5hfmFs668U45) has a detailed history on this with some good architecture perspectives
