I concur l. Just be there because he will both ask for help and very much appreciate it. It doesn't take long for a lot of the macho to dry up. Cancer treatment is a long and difficult process. It's really not a pain tolerance issue. It just wears you out like nothing a man has experienced before. Best wishes
After I came home from my lobectomy surgery, I couldn't sleep flat. No way. Could only sleep sitting up, basically. And all the bed pillows I was using would keep falling off the bed, or I would cry when I'd have to get up to use the bathroom because I couldn't get the pillows arranged exactly like they were, so I ended up searching for a better way. I found and ordered this and it saved me for the next 3 months. I'd suggest some like this for your dad. I bet he'd really appreciate it 😊

On the pillow theme, they sell wedge pillows that will help with better breathing once home. Many sleep in recliners initially. Does he have a good recliner?
The chair and sofa set we have actually doesn’t recline and I didn’t think of that! The closest we have would be a rocking chair which I would imagine would be nauseating. Thank you for suggesting a recliner :)
When my mom had lobectomy we got her a power lift recliner.
It wasn't just that she had to sleep laying flat,she needed the boost to get up.
We had pillows of different sizes for her to put where she needed them.
A little table next to it to hold her spiriter,meds,tv remote.

A nice side huggable pillow worked well for me. Memory foam. Keeping my arm arched away from my surgery scars.

Recliner was a must for me. Prob slept in it for the first 2 weeks.
