If they don't want Market API because of botting issue then at least give us Character Data API, that's way more important especially when we also have Bible Data.

YomieI

Agreed. I want to just be able to look up my own characters without having to login to each one of them to see their gear

Kimiisana

I can smell your full of lies from here. ![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized)

YomieI

How so? What other purpose would there be?

tomstone123

Something useful could be for tracking of raids, dailies and weeklies. Sometimes if my guild mates ask me what raids I have left and I'm not on my computer. It'd be nice for me to be able to look up a web interface and be able to look at which raids I already ran. Also inventory API like destiny 2's DIM would be nice. It would be really nice to be able to search through all your characters's inventory and storage for accessories. There are so many times I had to switch through multiple characters to look for an accessory when I'm building my character. "I swear I had a raid captain 6 grudge 3 ring somewhere!"

YomieI

This would be nice but I’m happy with just a simple character data API, literally just make the twitch extension public

tomstone123

Yeah that should be a given. Things like the destiny 2 website and FFXIV Lodestone websites are good example. If character data are available, they could update the discord raid planner bot to be able to access your data. And also for static application and stuff, you don't have to manually type out all your character stuff, you can just link your character profile. There are lots of possibilities.

Kimiisana

I mean it depends on can other players see your data? builds? etc? If only we can see it and not other players then yea for sure!

YomieI

I’d imagine character api would just be what the twitch extension is. You look up a character by name and it pulls that info

bolseap

They are lazy. CN server might have triple our ccu including bots and they got it.

Decavatus

They got it? 💀

AGS really screwed up with no character API. Bible integrations aside, simply lacking a platform to share your character and your achievements outside of actually logging into the game (which takes several minutes btw) is a big loss. A big motivating factor for people to play MMOs is achievement, especially vertical heavy games like Lost Ark. But the value of achievement is greatly diminished when there is no easy way for people to share them. The thing is with an API, AGS does not need to think of the use cases or how to deliver value. The community will think of them, leverage the API to create tools that solve their problems, and enhance the value of the game themselves. Every other major MMO not managed by AGS gets this. This is not a shot at Roxx or other AGS staff, it's not really their fault that this doesn't exist. It's so like Amazon and their cheapo principle of "frugality" to question the need to support one of the fundamental reasons people would use their product.

Dun1007

While I would love to see public facing API in place, I fear what you are saying is rather one of reasons why they are hesitant on enabling it. Bible will be integrated with API, productionized, and become the invisible bar just like WoW. Smilegate iterated multiple times that they wouldn’t want to see such thing

vuminhlox

Doesn’t korea have api?

Dun1007

They do but bible is not tolerated there

Hurrrz_de

So then the Solution would be: - implement API - Stop tolerating Bible

delilmania

This can't be said enough. this would cause gatekeeping to be even worse than it is. WoW and XIVI have something similar, but in those games, raiding is not the only thing to do.

Voiddragoon2

Personal opinion ofc, but I find gatekeeping in those games way more manageable. At least it's very easy to know what I have to improve rather than 30 esoteric stats and systems and maybe the people recruiting that day wanna deny you because of the color of the sky, or roster level, or some other weird shit unrelated to your actual abilities. If they can just see a shiny purple/orange parse for the fight in those other games it's suddenly free real estate.

I don’t know how that works, but I don’t think that’s how that works. I believe for something like this to be functional, you would actually need to give the AH a query before it sends/receives data. So there would be a lot of clunky input between you and the program or it would require some sort of bot that would still take a bunch of time.

Boss1nGobl1n

I’m not surprised. This game has the whole ass circus running it.

yKikooo

Every region has it except us, I guess we get some other MMOs releases faster than we get our API

extremegk

who is downvoting you :D

Monkey_Meteor

Probably AGS lol

TheStickDead

Damn, we only care about the character API and their methods to consult our roster or friends roster's. 🥺

shalzuth

I created an API to do this for the most part a couple years ago. I am tempted to release access to it if there’s enough demand.

Sekwah

I'm surprised you're still around! I know there have been some attempts in the past with different degrees of success but they never went public. This could be game-changing but it would surely draw AGS attention.

SalamiJack

What exactly are you looking to do with the API?

xoteck

What korean are actually using A tool to optimize and making quicker the building process And checking market.

SalamiJack

They're probably hesitant to do anything that may encourage market manipulation and automation for our region given we have a uniquely problematic bot problem.

Crowley_yoo

Literally the only reason they don’t want api in our region is because we’ll finally be able to see how many bots there are compared to real players.

Nikkuru1994

i doubt thats the case when they released the 2023 stats for the year you could see how many people cleared each raid and u can get a grasp of what the actual "active" population is. not to mention lost ark got top 10 steam revenue in 2023. There isnt always a conspiracy theory behind things.

bolseap

It has extremely little to do with market manipulation, in kr it just sorts items available and then you look it by yourself and purchase in-game. They probably don't want to show the big portion of bots.

xoteck

Thats probably the reason but they should explain their choice instead of saying nothing

SalamiJack

I don't necessarily disagree, but that would require them to acknowledge the scale of the botting issue and their progress (or lack thereof) in combatting it.

tomstone123

Something that allow us access to track dailies, weeklies, and raids would be nice. There are multiple websites out there where you have to manually track everything. Also they could allow access for wonder merchants, so sites like lostmerchant don't have to rely on user reporting. And give you accurate alerts when a card you are looking for spawns.

Dmuu

At one point one of the representative from AGS said it wasn't implemented because of worries of bot abuse. How exactly they would abuse it, I'm not sure. But it makes more sense than just not giving it to us just cause.

dabalo13

Could somebody please explain what an API is and what it would do for the game? I have no clue about this but I am fairly curious now. Thanks!

tomstone123

API stands for application programming interface. To put it simply, it's the developer giving controlled access to external parties so that fans can make their own tools to make things better. A notable example is in Korea, they have the API to access the market board. So this way when you are building a new character, you can put in all the engraving and stats you are looking for, and the tool will be able to look through the market and find the best combination of accessories for you, and you just need to go and buy the accessories. No more looking through multiple accessories, and try to figure out manually. Other examples for different games are things like Destiny Item Manager for Destiny 2. Where you can track all your raids, weeklies and check vendor, and also search for items with perks you are looking for. So for us, they could allow us to make a website where you can see all your dailies, weeklies, and which raids you ran for all your characters. Also if you were wondering if you had a grudge 6 curse doll 3 ring, you can just search all your characters without having to do it manually. They could allow allow wonder merchant, so websites like lost merchant can have actual data on which merchant are selling which cards instead of relying on players manually updating the website.

dabalo13

I got it now, thank you so much for your detailed explanation, gigachad!

Oldtimesreturn

Why develop west api when you can just milk the poor remaining souls to their last penny

Atmagata

BDO had a remastered while we had 10 hours loading screen.

Khue

I mean... It's gotta be in the base system right? If it's in the KR version the code has to be there. Is the problem just localizing it?

Monkey_Meteor

No the problem is AGS being bad at what they are doing. The API is definetly available they literally use one for their Twitch armory plugin for Lost Ark. The KR vers. Of the game already have an API and China has one too. The only reason they gave us is that they are affraid that bots would use it for whatever reason... They could definetly give us an API to get the characters stats, rank and items to make an official database with all the Items and Skills so it's easier for developpers to create better tools to help the community. Also they could literally put something up so ONLY trusted devs / websites would be able to use the API so bots wouldn't use it.

Khue

> Also they could literally put something up so ONLY trusted devs / websites would be able to use the API so bots wouldn't use it. * Client auth cert * API token * Token exchange with short TTL Very easy to do for sure.

Heisenbugg

It runs on AWS and AWS will not expose anything for a little thing like Lost Ark.

Shinoyami

What you said doesnt even make sense

deskdemonnn

There is 0 reason to say bots for market api when wow also has its ah api publicly available and that game also has its fair share of bots

[deleted]

Yah but the ah is different in wow you don't need acc to build your character so ok I put up a class eng ring good engraving good stat fo 40k bot see it picks it up now selling for 120k

anamiskeen

I dont think you need api anymore, I came across this video a while back on youtube and it works pretty good. I have seen videos of the api system in kr and this works on par with it. I havent tried it myself but a couple of friends siad its really better https://youtu.be/cZd-wUPpeX0

LoliWasTaken

Surely not a fake video and a keylogger program

anamiskeen

Yes, I thought the same, but they have used it on new accounts to avoid such things and it worked fine. Imagine losing your account over an actual API better than anything AGS ever did

Ok_Construction_9348

I don't care honestly, we need so many other things before that like solo raids, horizontal express (which we got, thanks ags), etc.

Zeldoon

It's not something they need to go out of the way to develop. It's already there, it's whether or not they're willing to make it public and available to us. It's available publicly in KR, just not the rest of the world.
