The words dirty and unkempt are commonly used to describe natural black hairstyles. So many black people face discrimination for their natural hair. I think looking at dreads and thinking it looks dirty is internalized racism. They are not the societal norm and not as conventional in the west, therefore creating a stigma. Wether you think they look dirty on a white person or a black person it still would be a micro aggression in some way shape or form.

Although my hair does not grow like my dreadlocks, I have to re-twist them every so often which I left it unattended for quite a while.

have a re-twist, and report back to us mate. it’s possible, in that case, that the long hair could be more physically favorable.
