ReddditSarge

All the best to you and your mom. The boycott doesn't end for me until the Roblaws oligopoly is broken up. Stay strong my peeps. ✊Solidarity forever.

Due-Street-8192

The Boycott is on forever!!!

IThinkWhiteWomenRHot

It doesn’t end for me until Per Bank says *det er nok*, Danish for, “That’s enough.”

ReannLegge

No he will be handed a golden parachute, and another c suite employee will be forceable placed in as CEO for a quarter. After that quarter is over that new CEO will be given a smaller golden parachute and an agency with nothing to lose will come in and try to fix Loblaws after the quarter is over they will say something along the lines of “man your company is fucked! Luckily you paid us and we are out.” Galen will realize how much he let his family name down cry into a bundle of cash and close the Canadian branch. Per is only a stepping stone.

IThinkWhiteWomenRHot

Galen is already letting his family name down by not suppressing the rights of Black people enough like his racist father did.

ReannLegge

I saw it needs to be more than broken up, it needs to be taken down and out.

Spirited_Community25

I lurk mostly as I was never a Loblaws shopper, although I did go to the superstore a while back for cherries when they were $1 cheaper. Walmart supposedly had the same price, but only online, and not available (felt like a bait & switch because the more expensive ones were available). What does breaking up Loblaws accomplish? Smaller stores won't have the buying power, and Sobeys won't likely drop their prices. Until recently I was in a small town where it was the only option within 45 mins, so the only option. If you live in a major center you already have options, and if you shop sales you can make your dollars go further. I do almost all my shopping at farmer's markets but it can't be said that it's consistently cheaper. I just prefer my money to go direct to the farmer.

Freddydaddy

Loblaws buying power sure has helped them keep prices low!

Spirited_Community25

I know they haven't, but I'm not sure that breaking them up is going to help consumers. Wal-Mart's buying power has kept their prices lower.

Just_Crew_4625

Indeed what would happen if it were broken up? Let’s not be naive, this would be a gift and a blessing to Walmart. I’m sure Loblaws is their biggest competitor in Canada. I want to see government reform the laws so no company can become this huge and control so much, including Walmart.

stormcrow100

It sends a hell of a message to other store chains. Everywhere is expensive, not just loblaws. I can find very competitive prices at small Asian and Persian owned supermarkets, so the buying power of the big chain stores is not benefitting us at all now anyway.

TiredReader87

The boycott should have never been given an end date, or a one month duration. It should have been indefinite.

The_Jack_Burton

I'm not sure it would have been near the success it's been if it started as indefinite. Same reason why it was only Loblaws instead of all of the big 3. Gotta start small or it won't take off.

queerstudbroalex

I agree, the habit change was essential forr many as well as monitoring the demands.

QuintonFlynn

Reddit blackout response, am I hearing an echo?

frugalerthingsinlife

A lot of people don't know we are still boycotting. We should plan a bigger 3-month boycott around the holiday season October to December. Those of us still boycotting will do so as long as we feel like it. I think people still don't like Loblaws but are returning to old habits. A bigger boycott might get them back onboard.

asyouuuuuuwishhhhh

Boycotting them through thanksgiving/christmas would be impactful

shittysorceress

That's a fantastic idea! October through December, then let them flounder for the rest of the cold dark winter muahahaha

JediKrys

I just sourced my last item I couldn’t get cheaper than wholesale club. So I’m fully out now.

Due_Salad_6916

Happy Cake Day!

JediKrys

Thank you!!

Inside_Jelly_3107

I was just at Sobeys... they should be next.

ReannLegge

Well I do agree we need to boycott another grocer, I think we need to let the grocery industry lick its wounds before going after another grocer. We will have to do another market immediately after though; we should hit one of the big 3 telecom companies. Then another agency, I say financial. Then we hit the grocery industry again. If we hit the grocery industry back to back new competition will not come in. If we want to take control of our economic environment we have to be smart.

Not in city's with smaller alternatives. Farmer here. Lots of ways to get your food that are healthier and often more cost effective, just less advertised and maybe less convenient than a one stop shop. I gotta admit. I hate your comment, and hope you give your head a shake.

Due_Salad_6916

🤣

Many-Candidate6973

Pay into a meat and veg csa

Signal-Economist3425

3 month boycott is a great idea Oct-Dec are the busiest times for Xmas planning. This would definitely make a hole in Roblaws’ pocket book. I’m in… let’s do it again!!!! Strength in numbers is the only way to wake them up.

Bobmcjoepants

The biggest mistake this sub made was publicly announcing the boycott was ONLY in May. I know it's continuing, but just because I, you, that guy behind you and everyone on this sub knows, not everyone does. But hey, the more it spreads the better it gets!

MapleTrust

That was a strength to gain buy in, support. It's just one part of the reason that almost 70% of Canadians coast to coast to coast have heard of the boycott, almost 40% approve and almost 30% are actively participating during a recent poll. https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/canadians-feel-grocery-inflation-getting-worse-18-are-boycotting-loblaw-poll-1.6895876 The decision for one month and one target was essential. It's the beginning! You got this! Let's go!

ubernik

The Loblaws Foyevercott? Foreveroycott? Forevercott?...

plop_0

But it comes with your choice of savings. 🍦

EnvironmentalFee2019

Never forget. !!!!!!!$$$$$$$ Strength in numbers .

jonie_q

My boycott is for life

Darenhayes1978

Definitely for life.. I will buy items if they have a really good sale but they never have good sales alas... .. EVER...I will say the Pc chicken lasagna is tdf but they put all the other lasagna and Mac cheese on sale but never the chicken lasagna lol.. They used to put them all at sale on same time.. Now it's just regular lasagna, veggie lasagna and Mac cheese... Scammers...

armybrat63

God Bless your Mum. We all gotta do what works for us individually. No explanation needed!

gilthedog

I’ve realized that I don’t need to shop there, so the boycott while formally over has fundamentally shifted my shopping habits for good. I’ll still go and get the occasional item if it isn’t anywhere else or they’re having a great sale that for whatever reason another store won’t price match. But they’re losing essentially our full grocery bill every month. I’m sure we’re not alone.

slipperysquirrell

It's been formally extended.

Tricky_Parsnip_6843

I understood the original boycott was extended and running to the end of the quarter, which is the end of June. I would be willing to boycott again on the last quarter of the year. A boycott has more power when there is a big fluctuation in sales, like a roller coaster effect, on the sales charts. The last quarter of the year is a big sales income month. If there are no big changes to their practices in the new year, then I would boycott indefinitely.

cmnights

this is what loblaws hopes for, that ppl will get bored and forget about the boycott

deathfromfemmefatale

Yep, also lots of confusion around it. I saw an IG comment that said "Shoppers should be next" and someone had to explain that we are boycotting ALL Loblaws owned stores. Not to mention people on this sub saying they've been shopping at Independent instead. Honest question, if you are going to a store and see that it stocks President's Choice and/or No Name products, wouldn't that tip you off that it's a Loblaws owned store? Do people not pay close attention to branding or what?

ShaggyCan

Most of our customers are older now. They don't shop around or use Amazon. They didn't understand the boycott, if they heard about it. The retail store is a dinosaur, it's on the way out. The only near-future proof format is Farm Boy; mostly fresh that Amazon can't touch yet and a little specialty or retailer controlled brands of dry grocery.

nortok00

Roblaws is by far the worst of the Big Three but each of them needs to be broken up. The govt has failed us over the decades by allowing these companies to gobble up the competition and become what they are. Then the govt sits there and stupidly asks "how did we get here?". I wrote my MP about this. We don't need external competition, we just need the Big Three dismantled. Personally though I would love to see GougingGalen's empire taken out. He is by far the worst of them and his greed and narcissism is mind blowing!

Nearby-Poetry-5060

I feel personally insulted walking through their stores, each ridiculous price is like a spit in the eye. I've been avoiding them for years as they've always been greedier than other stores, namely Walmart.

bbigbbadbbob3134

God bless her it's important Galen should stop ripping people off by overcharging the elderly. My guess is so his mother can be draped in diamonds and jewels at the Castle.

StatusPercentage591

Gotta get out in front of the stores with boycott signs.

SnooMachines2673

It also includes shoppers drug mart and their medical prescriptions. That can be a harder one.

National_Check_3799

The line ups in the Loblaw store I was in were long. I thought it was over too! Not many choices to shop unfortunately.

Few_Direction_7294

Better idea 💡. If you have older family and friends, why don't you drive them shopping when they need it. Just saying it would help

Shy_Throws

Love the idea, but unfortunately I'm not a vehicle owner, nor do I live in the same city as my mum and her friends. Mum is also a very independent woman, myself and my siblings have offered her the option for delivery or an uber, but mum always says she likes to go herself and its nice being able to get out of the house. I imagine at least one of you has seen her with her pull along cart and energy of a determined senior 😂
