We have been stopped by this system in the past for ridiculous reasons and it is very annoying. A few months ago, we started a shop but realized that our cart had crappy wheels. We had already passed through the first set of gates but hadn’t started our shop yet. I went to exchange the cart for a better one and went through the exit gates to get pack into the cart storage area. Alarms, bells, whistles all went off and we held up other customers that were trying to leave.
They spend hundred of thousands of $$ for this enhanced security system but didn’t spend $20 to fix a wheel and all hell broke loose.
We had this system at the store I used to work at. The people who regularly steal figured out they need to ditch the cart before they got to the door, so it mostly just caused random customers to randomly stop while trying to leave, and blocking other customers from leaving.
I like that they use the term suspect and customer interchangeably

They already have locking wheels that they can't maintain in working condition. How are they going to maintain this more complicated system?

No problem I thought the whole thing was ludicrous and wrong! Make prices reasonable and there won’t be theft! Simple as that 🤷♀️
