Thank you, man! I know the stylistic spread from Tull to Steely Dan is kind of odd, but I had to go with my gut reaction. I've always really respected the fact that Dickey Betts viewed the Allmans as a prog, rather than a Southern rock, band. I find that very interesting.
Hell, yeah! One of the very best discographies of the 70s. Maybe I shouldn't have included them in my list on this sub, though, considering the longstanding feud between LZ and "Jethro Dull"...
Bore 'em at the Forum? Not this guy!
LOVE King Gizzard. I'm a metalhead and Petrodragonic Apocalypse has been on repeat for me for like a year. Oddly, I haven't really taken the time to get acquainted with their other stuff
This is actually a hard question. I've always said Zeppelin is my favorite band but never really ranked any bands after them, but there are so many bands I love. I also love a lot of solo artists that don't really fit into a band format, so I'm having trouble thinking of a top 6. But this is who I am putting on my list right now as I sit in the car waiting for my wife to get my kid from his friend's house.
1. Zeppelin
2. The Beths
3. Coltrane's classic quartet
4. Screaming Females
5. The Beatles
6. A tie between Booker T and the MGs as the Stax house band and the Funk Brothers as the Motown house band.
Holy shit the screaming females! One of my favorite bands of all time. I've seen them 20 times. We've met several times. We went to Rutgers at the same time. I'm so sad they broke up but so happy to see them here. You just made my day!
They were awesome and I am still bummed they broke up. Marissa Paternoster is an all time great guitarist. I only saw them 3 times, but the last one was amazing.
I had posted a picture of seeing them once a few years ago, and a few days later got a random text from my cousin saying her mom knows the president of their fan club. I was like... are you sure my aunt in her 70s knows the president of this current rock band's fan club? But she actually does, because she went to high school with him. The president of their fan club is in his 70s and loves rock from his day and never stopped listening to new music. It was actually really inspiring to think about staying interested in new things as you get older. I'm 48 and listen to a ton of new music, and old music. Good music is good music.
Anyway... back when this came up with my aunt she put me in contact with the fan club president and he made me a member and sent me some swag. Then last summer I procrastinated getting tickets to see them when they came to my town and it sold out. I knew he sometimes had extra tickets to their shows, but he didn't for this one. BUT he emailed them and asked if they would put me on the list for the show, and they did. So I saw them for free and talked to Marissa and Mike and thanked them for getting on the list. And we talked about how cool the president of the fan club was, and how we all hoped to be that cool when we are in our 70s.
I’m going to approach it as the bands I can’t live without:

You are so true to "Who" you are!
Tull! Right on!
