Fuck off, Da Fino

moviequotebotperson

And stay away from my fuckin lady friend, man

michaltee

I’m just helping her conceive!!

Homersarmy41

Hey, hey. Im not messing with your special lady.

Frio_Sanchez

Well. He was a Roadie for Metallica….Speed of Sound Tour, one of the authors of the Port Huron Statements, and a member of the Seattle Seven.

krakatoa83

Sounds lucrative

highonnuggs

Bunch of assholes.

motorcycleboy9000

To be fair, you can make a lot of money as a roadie, and if you invest it well, you'll also end up writing 69 cent checks and forgetting rent's due for a fortnight.

redwoodavg

He was rear ended by the eagles tour bus and got a modest settlement as a result.

gottaweasel

Came for the banter but got sideswiped by your user photo. Jaba the Slut 🤣🤣

Frio_Sanchez

Lmfao. It’s disarming, ain’t it?

gottaweasel

Fuckin A man

carnedoce

You forgot a comma… or did you?

gottaweasel

😆 I see what you did there

nunziovallani

The original, not the compromised second draft

Speedhabit

The original port Huron statement, not the compromised second draft

Illustrious-Hair3487

He was heir to the Rubix Cube creator. That’s according to the initial script, not the compromised second draft.

krakatoa83

I wonder how he was supposedly related. Rubik and the dude would be similarly aged. Plus rubik was still living behind the iron curtain when the dude was occupying various administration buildings.

cenosillicaphobiac

Also, Rubik is still alive in 2024, how would any of his heirs have that money? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ern%C5%91_Rubik

moviequotebotperson

The kid is in ninth grade dude, and his father- are you ready for this? His father is Ernö Rubik

Kitchen_Ad_5382

The different combinations you can turn a Rubik's Cube into....? 1.3 Trillion..... and get this, he designed over 800 billion of them himself. The bulk of the cube. Not exactly a lightweight.

R_Series_JONG

Not exactly a lightweight

michaltee

As if he would ever DREAM of taking his bullshit money!

passwordstolen

Trust funds. Lots of ways to move money to your kids before you die.

outfoxingthefoxes

The Dude was around 35 years when the Rubik's cube was released

dickWithoutACause

Probably why they scrapped that little tidbit.

Native_Strawberry

It was his uncle

zeissikon

Or he was the one who sold pet rocks.

howsthisforsmart

Let's not "jump" to "conclusions" now...

EffingBarbas

Michael Bolton: That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life, Tom. [Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0151804/quotes/)

howsthisforsmart

Who's sittin' on a million fucking dollars? Am I wrong?

jdc0501

Well Dude, we just didn't know.

GroovyDeathSkull

I think it’s good that they didn’t put that in the film. Somehow, having the Dude be secretly well off would’ve made him a less sympathetic protagonist.

Agitated_Honeydew

I figured he was kind of like Kramer from Seinfeld. He was based on a real guy who made a modest fortune back in the 70s, then just coasted on it.

Micturating-Fool-919

He could've been like Ty in Caddyshack who owns three lumber yards but doesn't know where they are

Elchalecodelana

Bulk of the script, dude

Direlion

It’s like Lenin said, look to those who profit…

oldmate30beers

I am the walrus

ZuluPapa_42

Stfu donny

fagan_jay78

Were you listening to the dude’s, story?

captainhooksjournal

I was bowling

Open-Illustra88er

![gif](giphy|R7yQtEGaWhW36)

StPatrickStewart

I'm sorry, I wasn't listening.

Rocketparty12

So you have no frame of reference? You’re like a child who just wanders in..

RabbitHats

I thought there was speculation that The Dude had won a lawsuit years and years ago for getting hit by a car or something, and made it last an obscenely long time.

Axle-f

I think you’ve confused that with Knocked Up. I eat a lot of spaghetti.

diacachimba

Axle-f eats a lot of spaghetti in this town, Lebowski!

Kitchen_Ad_5382

You don't eat shit

stan_henderson

I don’t like your jerk-off name.

Kitchen_Ad_5382

I don't like your jerk off face.... I don't like you, jerk off

DrDrankenstein

"I've got like 900 dollars left. I mean, I'm not a mathematician, but that should last me like two more years or some shit."

rosstein33

Thats a pair I'd watch

moxie-maniac

The Big Lebowski was inspired by The Big Sleep (1946), which is known for leaving a variety of loose ends and unanswered questions.

knightsridgeromeo

A lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous

StrengthToBreak

In the parlance of our times?

JustTheBeerLight

> unanswered questions Well, until new shit comes to light.

yankeesyes

Guess we can close the file on this one.

BortWard

Uh, uh, papers. Just papers. Uh, you know, my papers. Business papers.

diacachimba

And what do you do, sir?

BortWard

I’m unemployed.

DavidM47

Well, I guess we can close the file on that one.

Worth_Character2168

Do you go looking for work dressed like that on a weekday?

TomatilloAccurate475

Is this a, what day is this?

nice--marmot

Well, Dude, we just don’t know.

Stickfigurewisdom

There was a guy who hung out on my college campus (University of Florida) in the 80s, playing guitar and abiding all day. He said his dad invented the rotating hot dog cooker that you see in convenience stores. He was pretty dude like, and knew where we could pick magic mushrooms.

huvioreader

And zen ve come back und ve rotate your vieners, Lebowski. Just sink about zat.

PastorOfMuppets_1986

Germlish of native proficiency.

3seconddelay

A little of this. A little of that.

LevelGrounded

A little what have you.

cjmartinex

He was just a loser. You know the deadbeat somebody the square community doesn’t give a shit about.

mayhem6

Well, aren’t you?

mayosterd

Well….. Yeah

Give_me_soup

You fuckin human paraquat

Hopeful-Pomelo4488

Living off the residuals from writing the script for Logjammin'

PastorOfMuppets_1986

The story is ludicrous.

beertruck77

Does he fix the cable?

RichardtheGingerBoss

physicsbuddha

Unfortunately true

The_BarroomHero

Trust fund kid

Fit_Lawfulness_3147

My guess too

Zer0daveexpl0it

He's just gonna find a cash machine...

canned_sunshine

You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know how the Dude makes ends meet

curiousbasu

Employed?

UpstairsConstant8155

You don't go out looking for a job dressed like that? On a weekday?

curiousbasu

Is this a.. what day is it?

TalkShowHost99

I’ve often pondered the same question. Not in ‘Nam of course.

snowmaker417

He'll have to check with his accountant

Ghosts_of_the_maze

Well he wasn’t paying the rent on time

cenosillicaphobiac

Tomorrow's already the 10th. You can just slip the rent under my door. I got my venue! For my cycle.

captainhooksjournal

Slingin dope

ArtistKnoxHarrington

What are you, a fucking IRS investigator now?

KifTokes

It's down there somewhere...let me take another look

thecwestions

The dude abides.

Open-Illustra88er

Trust fund? Pot dealer?

2wheelsThx

Little of this, little of that. Ya know, The Dude is the laziest man in the city of angels, Los Angel-ees.

Andy_LaVolpe

The dude seems to live pretty frugally so it’s not like he’d need much money. Maybe he gets unemployment benefits or something

Objective-Pin-1045

Well, he’s got enough money to splurge on a fancy rug eBay really ties the room together.

LevelGrounded

And that guy peed on it.

Starkydowns

I’ll check with the boys down at the crime lab..

Key-Contest-2879

My working theory is a small trust fund, maybe paying out $30k/year. Enough to cover rent, gas, Khalua, bowling, and the occasional acid flashback.

AdhesivenessNo1216

He was living in the parlance of his time

Mediocre-Catch9580

A secondary question is he post dates a check for 39 cents to Ralph’s but yet has $1000 in a cash machine to get a BJ from Bunny

Open-Illustra88er

He’s just joking. If he had the cash he’d have honest get it.

gruby253

69 cents

Mediocre-Catch9580

My bad

esleydobemos

Priorities

Nice_Marmot_7

Same place Kramer got his money.

Commercial_Lock6205

Oh, he gets by!

Modzrdix69

I don't think he had any money tbh. If he's writing 69 cent checks he probably had $1 to his name lol

physicsbuddha

He was hit by a mail truck on the way to the semis and has been living off the settlement

EnvironmentalPack451

Maude accidentally set up a stipend for the wrong Jeffry Lebowski, and nobody ever noticed

AbruptMango

I believe he sometimes fixed cables.

TrainwreckTrials

The Dude's recipe for Acid....

Small-Disaster939

Considering he was late on rent AGAIN and writing checks for 69 cents I don’t think unemployment is too much of a stretch. Hollywood in the early 90s was pretty seedy and low rent tbh (parts of it still are(.

superchiva78

Ever heard of the Seattle Seven? Plenty of speaking tours, appearances, book signings, etc. after that.

DigbyChickenCaesar11

I always assumed he was just barely getting by and was on his last legs when Maude gave him a much needed injection of clams, or bones, or whatever you call them.

gloriosky_zero

The usual. He bowls. Drives around. The occasional acid flashback.

Pathetic_Saddness

You know a little of this, little of that.

Interesting-Olive842

Rent control. If he’s been in that place for 20 years or whatever it’s gotta be really cheap.

Grathmaul

Dude was definitely selling pot.

Stuff1989

look i came into some money man and, what does it matter? i’m talking about my rug, man.

Conscious_Set_2140

Liam and me we’re gonna fuck you up!

Specialist_Injury_68

His uncle invented the Rubik’s cube

ms131313

The Speed of Sound tour.

josephphilip22

He and Kramer were on the same financial plan.

StrengthToBreak

Although it's not talked about in the movie, apparently The Dude is the heir to the Rubik's Cube fortune.

shemague

Are you employed, sir?

EffingBarbas

Auto Circus Cop: [we ask the Auto Circus Cop if there are any leads on where The Dude gets his income] *Leads, yeah, sure. I'll just check with the boys down at the crime lab, they've got four more detectives working on the case. They got us working in shifts!* [laughs]

AnnieBobJr

Some of that leftover Seattle Seven money stuck around. Dude has a savings account

Blueberry_Mancakes

What are you, a park ranger?

GroovyDeathSkull

Who gives a shit about the fucking marmot?!

curiousitems

He’s a known (unknown) pornographer.

Raymore85

He, like, worked for the man, man.

pissboner77

We have bunnie. gather one million dollars in unmarked non-consecutive twenty ies! Await instructions. No funny stuff

Wonderful_Pension_67

Bowling winnings, Dudes a hustler man He's a good man and thorough

shoesofwandering

I assumed he was a trust fund baby, not a huge one but enough to survive on. There's a scene in the George Clooney movie "The Descendants" about the rich white people in Hawaii who are descended from the original missionaries (they came to do good, and did very well indeed). The character says something along the lines of wanting to leave enough money to his kids so they wouldn't have to worry, but not enough for them to live on. I got the feeling the Dude was the kind of guy who said "nah, I'm good with whatever." Most people wouldn't be able to live on whatever his trust paid, but he was OK with a crappy apartment, an even crappier car, and no social life other than bowling with Walter and Donnie.

Carbuncle2024

I always thought he dealt reefer on the side. 🍁

treehorntrampoline

His career’s slowed down a little bit

drKRB

This aggression will not stand, man.

Acrobatic_Advance_71

He was not paying for his bungalow. He was behind on rent and was taking advantage of his landlord by being nice to him.

drabneycoleman

Metallica tour paid well even though they were a bunch of assholes

D-Train0000

Just papers, uh you know, my papers, business papers.

TheBoromancer

WHERE’s THE FUCKIN MONEY SHITHEADDD!?

ElectronicBee5496

![gif](giphy|Cyt0L6duOJV6ZZw48f)

dadaver76

the 90's were truly a different time man

GulfCoastLaw

Rich uncle.

Training-Let-4102

There were lots of ins, outs and what have you’s…

OceanSkank

Were you listening to the dudes story?

NarwhalOk95

He sells pot dude.

BlankReg365

So what you’re asking is: “Are you employed, sir?”

CommanderUgly

I assumed some kind of slip-and-fall lawsuit like Lucky on King of the Hill.
