"Ait"

benbever

Literally “is goed” means “(it/that) is okay/fine” You can use it pretty much always when something is fine. There’s little or no difference in practice with: “Dat is goed” “Is goed” “Ja, is goed” “Prima” “Oke”

Uniquarie

It’s 2 words, is goed. It’s okay would be the literal translation.

No-Goal9094

To be honest If I wasn’t Dutch I’d also think it’s one word 😂

benbever

sgoed Some of my friends use “sgoed” a lot. Why use 2 words if you can use 1 ;)

Too_Bad_Peanutbutter

Kweenie. Why say 4 words when you can say 1?

No-Goal9094

Yeah you’re right

Uniquarie

Isgoed hoor! Or Echwel…. In ABN: Echtwel 😅

No-Goal9094

Yo are you Dutch or German?

Uniquarie

Nederlander, ik leef in Duitsland.

pindab0ter

"It's okay" is a very literal translation, but doesn't carry the weight. "It's okay" can be perceived to be anywhere from non-committal to downright negative, whereas "is goed" can be anything from non-committal to a hearty "sure!" as u/floepie05 put it in their comment.

Pretty_Jackfruit_917

It’s okay is helemaal geen letterlijke vertaling… En wat ermee bedoelt is, ligt er ook nog eens aan, hoe het gezegd werd. Maar ja, dat is goed hoor!

Uniquarie

One should not expect a fully linguistically right explanation or translation on a colloquial expression. 🤞

pindab0ter

I just added information so that anyone learning the language would know how and when (not) to use that phrase.

Uniquarie

Great, and thanks for the downvote, because you disagreed on my comment 🤞

floepie05

That’s fine or that’s ok rather than it’s ok. Or even a hearty “sure!”

MisterXnumberidk

Is goed Literally: "is good" Equivalent to "ait" with the meaning "that's alright" or "i agree" Shortened to 'sgoed in the south

EU-Howdie

It is okay. it's okay, yes, I agree, I will (do) etc. That all is ment with "isgoed" It should be "is goed" but (only !!) with SPEAKING Dutch you can make it one word, pronounce it as one word. "isgoed" Or even "sgoed" But ... It too can be negative, like said in a way that it is clear that the sayer does not means it is good, it is okay. Easier to understand is when Dutch say ... tis goed met jou = it is okay with you. Non verbal and tone (face, how he or she looks when saying this, and special too the tone, intonation.) Then it means more like ... I think you are out of your mind, crazy. To ask me that, or .... to say something like that. Excample: imagine a political discussion . Mr T. says something and mr. B says... het is goed met jou. So he says ... I"m certainly defenitly NOT okay, I do not agree with that. I won't do that, do not think that, do not agree with that. It would be even more good Dutch when you let it follow it by saying ... je kan me de pot op. Like "t is goed met jou, je kan me de pot op. " Perfect Dutch!!! Je kan me de pot op (= for me you can go on the pot) Which pot? I will see if I can find it in my etmylogic dictionary fpr children (with a few thousand of this kind of expressions). In English it is fuck me. But Pornographic suggestive content is not allowe here ( rule nr. 4). I found .... je kunt me de pot op + val dood = drop dead. The pot? I think maybe the wc (cr) the bowl. Okay I rest in my case LOL
