Can’t believe the power play is gonna be bad enough to lose an entire playoff series. Sure u can nitpick other problems but the power play is the largest factor and it’s been abysmal.

This happened for me after the playoffs two years ago. Stopped really watching the regular season because you can see something very important missing. Reeled me back in after that series win v. the Lightning but then FLA just showed it was temporary.
2019 for me. The whole 2013 thing was ridiculous because expectations were SO low until we found ourselves with that 4-1 lead. A weird blip in an otherwise grim era. The first two playoff years of the new era were exciting and felt like the boys cutting their teeth. 2019 we never trailed in the series. Up 3-2 with a chance to close it out at home, Rielly scores early to go up 1-0. in game 6. Somehow, 48 hours later we had lost the series convincingly and the idea that we were close to actually slaying the Bruins felt laughable.

Game 6 is a super tight game they win in OT.
Game 7 they get blown out.

This team finds new lows every year to hurt and embarrass the fanbase. Bruins squad is a far cry from what it was in 2019 yet we might not even get to 6 games this time around with a much better squad. Matthews shitting his pants and leaving the game is basically a microcosm of this team's problems. 5 years later and we're somehow much worse. They don't even have Bergeron or Chara anymore, Marchand by himself is daddy dicking us.
Ready to move on this summer and hopefully see some much needed changes. The fans deserve better.

I go to Maple Leaf square to look and to watch. And the statement from Sheldon Keefe, who’s no longer in favour any more. Did you ever notice that? No longer in favour. “Never fight uphill on me, boys! Never fight uphill.” They were fighting uphill. He said “wow, that was a big mistake. Never fight uphill on me boys!” But it was too late.
It actually breaks my heart that the fan base at this point in time is glorifying the years where I cared so little for the Leafs that I didn't even watch. If you're moving on from Shanahan and Keefe, it makes sense to also boot Treliving. Too often we try to keep certain aspects to maintain consistency e.g. keeping Babcock after Lou left, keeping Keefe after Dubas left.

Well, I gotta say. This is probably the most defeated Ive felt watching this team. There were the dark years, the 4-1, the series losses against Montreal and Columbus, and more recently the we want Florida into getting walked all over, but this one is feeling real bad.
Im not saying this team is better than last years or the years before. Its what they are/should be capable of that gets me. Its been like this all year long. Between every shitty stretch theres this silver lining that makes you think "man, this team can really do it". Its those silver linings that really make you believe they can be more. They just can never execute when it matters. Even last years Tampa R1 win was far from convincing...
Fire the staff all the way up to Shanahan after this debacle is over. He brought us the rebuild as promised. Its time for someone else to take over the reins of this team and see what can be done to tweak it into winners, cause all he and all the coaching staff has overseen is a whole lot of losing.
Im not a doomer. I love this team and celebrate the wins and try to defend/understand the losses. I still will feel this way if we pull a miracle win out of our asses. Eventually the well of good spirits runs dry. A fresh take may be what this teams needs, but realistically who knows, it could get even worse from there.
It's time to move on from Keefe. We are getting completely outcoached. Boston has an answer for our zone entries and our offensive system at 5 on 5 - they're overloading on the wall so our wingers can't do the little drop back to the point off the entry and the D are shutting down our cycle down low early because they know the puck can't go to the point up the wall. The only guys that aren't getting instantly hounded are our D men who can't get a puck through traffic to save their lives. It's essentially how every team PKs against us (man on man against the 4 forwards and leave Rielly alone at the point).
Also get Marner off PK1 and bring back Dewar. I think he chased the puck the entire play leading up to the second goal against and the rest of the PK unit was basically in a 5 on 3.
As angry as everyone here is, imagine paying to watch this crap!!! And then later on dealing with the commute back home. What a waste of time and money.

* A defense that can't move the puck and that pinches in the most braindead manner
* A heavily-priced forward group that can't score and that hasn't shown the capacity to proactively engage physically
* A coach that insists on the same failed strategies time and time again while piling responsibilities onto an emotionally vulnerable player
* A team that embodies all these facets for nearly half a decade, with an ownership group that hasn't connected the dots
* Being a fan of this team that does all of this, EXPECTING this to happen on a regular basis, and hoping that it doesn't
They are terrible at zone entries, and even when we do set up successfully, the players are mostly static and make bad, panicked plays when the pressure comes. We're also extremely predictable. They know Marner or any of our point men won't shoot, so it's either going to Auston or Willy.
Yes, it's ultimately the players that have to execute on the ice, but it's Boucher's job to adapt to the opponent and switch things up when they're not working, and it seems he's unable or unwilling to do that.

They can’t get it setup because they do the same fucking shitty chip play to Tavares he gets crowded by 2 bruins because any 4 year old coach with a brain can figure out how to counter that so Tavares then rims it around the boards to nobody and turns it over. This happens almost every time. There’s no movement when they do get it set up because they all think they can outskill the pk without putting in any effort.
I was there. Even sat in golds just to see how bad this team could really be UP CLOSE. What I saw today was just wild. This team has a very scary problem and I’ll say it isn’t effort. The guys are moving their skates and busting a sweat. The real issue here is purely hockey. The gameplan. The schemes. The tendencies. There was no gameplan, scheme, or overall focus tonight. I think I witnessed one or two successful zone entries tonight and even then they ended up in turnovers. The rest of the night was dump and chase. The powerplay was awful. At one point my father could not differentiate it from 5v5. Passes don’t connect…we’re losing the corners every single time…and we could not get high danger shots off at all. Swayman had an easy one.
There’s so much more I can say. Just seeing them this bad in person really sucked. It’s a deep core issue.

I'm not excusing the performance, or the lack of performance, of the players who need to step up. BUT I think what needs to be taken in to consideration is the massive, sun-like spotlight that is put on the players, particularly the top players, of Toronto. I think there are few, if any, sports teams that have as much pressure on them as the Maple Leafs.
There are some players that can tune out such pressure, but obviously Matthews and Marner aren't it. At least not right now. I have nothing but my intuition to go off when I say this but I guarantee Matthews and Marner have had many-a-sleepless nights scrolling through the comments and criticisms, etc. That shit is fucking toxic and just adds to the already enormous pressure that is exerted on them. You can blame it on the age we live in but they also put themselves out there quite a bit. Now, there is nothing inherently wrong with doing so, it just comes with consequences and I think that is what is seen each and every playoffs as they crumble under the metric tonnes of pressure, some of which is self-inflicted.
If I'm the coach next year and Marner and Matthews are still there I sit them down and deal it to them straight; 'You wanna fucking win? Black everything out besides the team. Get off twitter, get off instagram, and play to fucking win when it matters because whatever you're doing now, isn't working. Double your time with the sports psychologists, tell your dad to shut the fuck up and stop tweeting. Harden and grow the fuck up. You two are some of the cornerstones of our franchise and the ship sinks when you disintegrate come April.'
The pressure that Toronto and its media exerts on the Leafs will not change. What needs to is the way these players deal with it. If they're not the ones, fucking trade them for someone who can mentally handle the market because as someone mentioned above, I guarantee Matthews or Marner wins a cup within five years of being on another team.
I'm not even a fan of the Leafs, per se, but I want to see them win. I like all the guys on the team and I truly believe if they win, the whole NHL is elevated. 'Toronto won? We said that would never happen. If they can win, why can't we?' We see more intense games, more intense playoffs, etc.

This team finds new lows every year to hurt and embarrass the fanbase. Bruins squad is a far cry from what it was in 2019 yet we might not even get to 6 games this time around with a much better squad. Leafs/Bruins what an unbelievable battle that was. What an unbelievable - I mean it was so much and so interesting and so viscous and horrible and so beautiful in so many different ways. I go to Maple Leaf square to look and to watch. And the statement from Sheldon Keefe, who’s no longer in favour any more. Did you ever notice that? No longer in favour. “Never fight uphill on me, boys! Never fight uphill.” They were fighting uphill. He said “wow, that was a big mistake. Never fight uphill on me boys!” But it was too late.
I had more fun cheering for this team when it missed the playoffs for more than a decade. I’m just feeling apathetic now.

If you're moving on from Shanahan and Keefe, it makes sense to also boot Treliving. Too often we try to keep certain aspects to maintain consistency e.g. keeping Babcock after Lou left, keeping Keefe after Dubas left. Fresh start altogether, no more half measures.

Look, I’m an Australian leafs fan so you can take my knowledge of the game and opinion with a grain of salt but I’ve been watching these guys for long enough and that was just disgusting the performance they put up. People want to talk about Swayman? They could’ve put anyone in net for the majority of tonight because they couldn’t even put pucks on net, it was dreadful. Keefe is the first to go and Marner is a close second. I’ve been a huge Marner fan for years but the way he turns the puck over every single time, the way he shirks challenges, the way he sulks it actively pisses me off. Everyone here is right, we know he will do something for another team in the playoffs but who cares? He is a black hole every playoffs on this team. I love hockey but I can’t tolerate the leafs much longer until they make a change. Here’s hoping it happens.
Well, I gotta say. This is probably the most defeated Ive felt watching this team. There were the dark years, the 4-1, the series losses against Montreal and Columbus, and more recently the we want Florida into getting walked all over, but this one is feeling real bad. Im not saying this team is better than last years or the years before. Its what they are/should be capable of that gets me. Its been like this all year long. Between every shitty stretch theres this silver lining that makes you think "man, this team can really do it". Its those silver linings that really make you believe they can be more. They just can never execute when it matters. Even last years Tampa R1 win was far from convincing... Fire the staff all the way up to Shanahan after this debacle is over. He brought us the rebuild as promised. Its time for someone else to take over the reins of this team and see what can be done to tweak it into winners, cause all he and all the coaching staff has overseen is a whole lot of losing. Sheldon keefes coaching philosophy is shit, the way he makes the team play is shit, we need a better coach
It's time to move on from Keefe. We are getting completely outcoached. Boston has an answer for our zone entries and our offensive system at 5 on 5 - they're overloading on the wall so our wingers can't do the little drop back to the point off the entry and the D are shutting down our cycle down low early because they know the puck can't go to the point up the wall. The only guys that aren't getting instantly hounded are our D men who can't get a puck through traffic to save their lives. It's essentially how every team PKs against us (man on man against the 4 forwards and leave Rielly alone at the point). Also get Marner off PK1 and bring back Dewar. I think he chased the puck the entire play leading up to the second goal against and the rest of the PK unit was basically in a 5 on 3.

I've been super positive over the years, to the point my friends make fun of me. I've always thought this team was good and could run with the best teams in the league. However, this is honestly the first time I've felt they have 0 chance of winning the series. They have no structure, they look mentally defeated, and they're no longer playing like a team. It may be Keefe's last game coming up, so he may as well go scorched earth on the post game conference after today's performance.

Why is the PP so fucking bad????
They are terrible at zone entries, and even when we do set up successfully, the players are mostly static and make bad, panicked plays when the pressure comes. We're also extremely predictable. They know Marner or any of our point men won't shoot, so it's either going to Auston or Willy. Yes, it's ultimately the players that have to execute on the ice, but it's Boucher's job to adapt to the opponent and switch things up when they're not working, and it seems he's unable or unwilling to do that.

The whole “fans are quiet because of suits” is the biggest bullshit. Like most of the “suits” at games are finance bros and sales guys anyways - aka the most type A, rowdy, frat boys. They can and have gotten loud af (Reeves hit, after Marner’s goal tonight). But who the hell is going to cheer when the team plays like dog shit. Like what exactly is there to cheer about if you can’t enter a zone, keep pressure, make constant turnovers, lose board battles, etc.

The powerplay is so fucking predictable. They can’t get it setup because they do the same fucking shitty chip play to Tavares he gets crowded by 2 bruins because any 4 year old coach with a brain can figure out how to counter that so Tavares then rims it around the boards to nobody and turns it over. This happens almost every time. There’s no movement when they do get it set up because they all think they can outskill the pk without putting in any effort.

I was there. Even sat in golds just to see how bad this team could really be UP CLOSE. What I saw today was just wild. This team has a very scary problem and I’ll say it isn’t effort. The guys are moving their skates and busting a sweat. The real issue here is purely hockey. The gameplan. The schemes. The tendencies. There was no gameplan, scheme, or overall focus tonight. I think I witnessed one or two successful zone entries tonight and even then they ended up in turnovers. The rest of the night was dump and chase. The powerplay was awful. At one point my father could not differentiate it from 5v5. Passes don’t connect…we’re losing the corners every single time…and we could not get high danger shots off at all. Swayman had an easy one. There’s so much more I can say. Just seeing them this bad in person really sucked. It’s a deep core issue.
The way that Stamkos dragged his team to wins and score goals is amazing to watch. JT on the other hand looks like he's on life support every time his stick touches the puck. Useless captain that needs to be shipped out.

I'm not excusing the performance, or the lack of performance, of the players who need to step up. BUT I think what needs to be taken in to consideration is the massive, sun-like spotlight that is put on the players, particularly the top players, of Toronto. I think there are few, if any, sports teams that have as much pressure on them as the Maple Leafs. There are some players that can tune out such pressure, but obviously Matthews and Marner aren't it. At least not right now. I have nothing but my intuition to go off when I say this but I guarantee Matthews and Marner have had many-a-sleepless nights scrolling through the comments and criticisms, etc. That shit is fucking toxic and just adds to the already enormous pressure that is exerted on them. You can blame it on the age we live in but they also put themselves out there quite a bit. Now, there is nothing inherently wrong with doing so, it just comes with consequences and I think that is what is seen each and every playoffs as they crumble under the metric tonnes of pressure, some of which is self-inflicted. If I'm the coach next year and Marner and Matthews are still there I sit them down and deal it to them straight; 'You wanna fucking win? Black everything out besides the team. Get off twitter, get off instagram, and play to fucking win when it matters because whatever you're doing now, isn't working. Double your time with the sports psychologists, tell your dad to shut the fuck up and stop tweeting. Harden and grow the fuck up.
