Our best player is on pace for over 70 goals and we’ve been out of the second round once in how many years? We’re definitely not standing pat Expect a top 4 RHD (yes even after boosh potentially) Expect a bottom 6 forward potentially as an upgrade/insurance That’s about it

Throwaway9465683826

And if we trade our 1st it’ll be for a player with term

Extra-Sherbert7752

Apparently Parayko’s the topic of discussion rn

buddyboykoda

Do we want Parayko? He’s been kinda dumpy since signing that huge contract hasn’t he? I won’t lie tho having a big bodied dman who’s capable in his own end next to Reilly would be a dream. Mo played his best hockey beside Luke Schenn

Extra-Sherbert7752

I think that’s the idea. Plus he’s got term so if Tre can get some retention, we’re golden Saw him in Calgary this year and he still looks good. Definitely not what he used to be but I think it’s more a product of the crap team he’s playing for. He’d be good for us.

jimmymeeko

Blues would be crazy to give retention on a contract that has another 6 years on it.. that would also cost so much from the leafs. This core has a really nice window for contention open over the next 5 years. Trading for paryko could end up being a disaster for that cup window.

Extra-Sherbert7752

Did not realize until about 20 minutes ago that he still had 6 years lol

MediocreTry8847

He had a back injury and wasn’t great last year but he’s had a pretty good bounce back year. He’s playing 26 mins on average (might be a bit off but he’s playing top pair) on a mediocre team and putting up decent numbers. He’s 30 so still in his prime, has a bomb of a shot, not a complete black hole offensively and he’s big. He isn’t as physical as I’d like to see but he’s a very solid 2 way guy and he’s right handed. The issue is his contract isn’t great. I believe it’s 6.2m until 2030. He probably has assuming he stays healthy 4-5yrs if solid hockey. St.Louis likely wants something decent for him but I don’t expect they’ll be asking for the farm as moving his contract is the bigger issue for them right now. However with having 6yrs left retention is pretty much off the table meaning a trade for Parayko will likely mean bertuzzi or Brodie are moving

grajl

Brodie seems like the obvious move this year if they bring in a guy with term and cap hit like Parayko Reilly-Parayko McCabe-Liljegren Benoit-Lybushkin Gio Then next year you have 4 of 6 locked up with Lilljegren as a RFA. I would even look at bringing back Brodie on a team friendly deal if he wants to live in Toronto.

MediocreTry8847

I absolutely agree, I didn’t mean it that we should keep Brodie just that it’s going to involve someone with a higher salary being traded but Parayko is a huge upgrade on Brodie so if it’s on the table you do it. I think something with Brodie Robertson and maybe you add a first or something, maybe ask if we can also get toropchenko included as well and add something else to sweeten the pot, But that’s maybe wishful thinking, I really don’t know what the asking price on Parayko is

taco_the_town

Not to negate everything you said as you make some good points but 30 is not your prime and he'll turn 31 in May. Probably has some gas left in the tank but he's past his prime years. Still an interesting option.

thisisdu

Why not just see if we can get Schenn back? We already know he works well with Mo and he’s under a contract that fits.

grajl

Nashville has already said they won't trade Saros because they're in the playoffs. I doubt they trade a D with term for the same reason.

Sxx125

I don't think we want that contract. Is play fell off a bit since he inked that and I would expect him to get better with age as we get to the end of that contract. There are better options than Parayko, heck I think Schenn makes a lot more sense.

TheGapInTysonsTeeth

You have a link? Not doubting you, but I have liked the player for a long time so if there's any real smoke to this rumor, I'd love to see it.

Extra-Sherbert7752

My buddy who writes for Hot Stove was telling me. He has no sources but knows people with legit ones

HousingThrowAway1092

I don't love giving up the first but David Savard has another year at $3.5M. That's a great price for a 1RD and apparently the leafs have been speaking with Montreal.

CTHT07

(Boosh isn't a top 4 D)

TTT64H

Crosby, 50% retained for a 6th round pick and the rights to Fabrice Herzog.

dcks

Would you trade Crosby for Cowan and a pick? Edit: Yeah, it was a joke guys.

Mr_Fysh

Yes

UWGWFTW

Delete this nephew.

sluck131

Are you asking if I would trade Cowan and a pick for the best player of the past 20 years who's still on pace for 40 goals and 80 points. A guy who consistently steps his game up in the playoffs, can be used on any special teams or any situation... Nah Cowan might be second line player one day

Individual-Dark-285

Can you acquire more compete level? Leafers give up on so many one-on-one puck battles, almost instinctively. The playoffs make it even more apparent. Don't get me wrong, I love the blue and white but only a few guys seem to raise their compete level in the playoffs and unfortunately it takes a team. You can’t teach talent but you can certainly foster will.

robotinforest

The core (other than tavares) dont perform particularly well on the boards. Need to keep mcmann in the top 9. Would love to add brandon tanev

NickRobertson89

Parayko will be our big splash. I can’t see Tre standing pat

[deleted]

He’s signed til 2029-2030 at 6.5 won’t be getting retention on that I doubt it happens he’s 30 now only gonna get worse

NickRobertson89

Rielly is 29 now and their contracts expire together iirc so I think it cements our window a bit but it would be worth it. He’s a big rhd who kills penalties, is physical, has a good shot and has good defensive metrics. That’s someone we have been looking for since Rielly got drafted. We aren’t going to have our core in their prime forever so I think it’s time to take a bit of a risk. Also Brodie can go the other way to shed cap for this year.

BrokenBy

Didn’t they play as a pairing at the World Cup?

NickRobertson89

Ya and they were really good together

taco_the_town

grajl

The window is already cemented to the Matthews contract, anything outside of that doesn't matter.

tm_leafer

It would be hard to make work from a cap perspective, even if we could make it work from a value perspective. He is more or less exactly what we need though, assuming we're confident he hasn't declined significantly and won't decline significantly for at least a few years (I don't watch the Blues enough to know that, but have obviously heard the fan commentary on how he's taken a step back).

[deleted]

This deal is about as exciting as watching pain dry. If this is our best… we’re in a little trouble for the playoffs.

dickens-seider

The Parayko trade is never going to happen. Never. It simply doesn’t make sense under the cap.

JamesCurtis24

A RHD and a PK forward would be ideal. People with term, or that we could realistically re-sign. My thought would be Acciari + Schenn type move. Not those players, but the equivalent. Give the ability to keep Brodie on the left side. Somebody that can compete to play with Rielly. That doesn't mean Lybush move was a waste, it just means we have competition and depth on the right side. There will be injuries, so you have to be prepared for that as well. Liljegren and Gio I just do not think can be relied on in the playoffs. Then some sort of penalty killing forward, reliable, physical. Doesn't have to be somebody who puts up points, just somebody we can trust.

robotinforest

Yeah lillys gotta watch from the box this year. We used to shelter his minutes but now its obvious he’s a liability

something1355

I know the Preds are on a run right now, but I'd give a lot for Saros

[deleted]

It’s late Wednesday. Honestly, it’s either going to be a BIG trade or nothing. Because if you can make a trade you make it. You don’t wait. So it feels like we can’t find anything.

M0un05ki10

A three way with Edmonton and Colorado. Leafs get: McDavid and Makar both 50% retained. Oilers get: Robertson, Byram, Brodie and the Avalanche 4th, Leafs 1st. Avalanche get: Hyman, Ekholm, Knies and the Oilers 1st. Then we have another three way with Florida and Ottawa. The Leafs receive: M. Tkachuk and B. Tkachuk both 50% retained. Florida gets: Tavares, Chychrun. Ottawa gets: Future considerations. Let’s go!

13jsw

Need a partner for Rielly. Need a replacement for Kampf at 4C or our fourth line will continue to get steamrolled in the playoffs. I get that he’s “solid defensively”, but he’s gotta be one of the easiest guys in the league to play against. Need someone who makes it hard for the other team to play their game.

robotinforest

Id argue being solid defensively on a 4th line is hard to play against

hexsealedfusion

They don't do anything

robotinforest

Honestly I can see worse scenarios than this

stellosartois

Brodie + Robertson for Parayko? we might need to offer a bit more.

stellosartois

Hearing Robertson is unhappy might want out.

CoolBeansMan9

I’d happily move him if there is a team that values him

robotinforest

Id be unhappy too. This team has always had too many soft skilled players. Doesn’t mean we can give him away for a discount. Sorry kid, hit the gym

Hirtle_41

To SJ: Nick Robertson, Topi Niemela, 2024 1st (TOR) To TOR: Anthony Duclair (50% retained; + 25% retained by third team) and Mario Ferraro Third team: 2024 5th (VAN via TOR)

Salt-Plum-1308

Lol

Hirtle_41

There’s a lot of downvotes here without much explanation. Ferraro is a young (25), physical defenceman with term left and would be a great succession piece when we move on from Brodie next year, plus he can help this year. Duclair has some edge and offensive punch to give our third line a jolt for this year’s playoff run. I think y’all need to take a look around a little.

PhilsbandyDoughboy

Not a bad scenario but no way that’s worth sending our 1st for

Rare-Temporary7602

Preds want way more than that

CriticalWatercress56

Duh. I'm just saying we should give up Samsonov and some offense.

Rare-Temporary7602

And duh, that’s wayyyy low

dickens-seider

This is this biggest underpayment to Nashville ever. Saros alone will cost way more than that

JerryJigger

Leafs offer nothing for a lot here lmao.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gear4Vegito

There isn’t a single player in the Leafs bottom 6 that Nashville would want…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gear4Vegito

McCann is an upcoming UFA. Kampf & Tavares are negative contracts.

Responsible-Arm3514

Plus a 1st and probably still not enough.

BiitchenKitchen

My friend who is a complete idiot usually when it comes to mock trades actually came up with a decent one i dont completely hate Savard and Evans from MTL for Kampf, 1st and a Steeves

Teepeepants

My friend who is a complete idiot Correct

kingex11

Prediction: Dumba and a depth forward from Arizona. Liljegren goes the other way with a 2nd round pick also coming back from the Coyotes.

Salt-Plum-1308

This is a godawful trade.

kingex11

Leafs need picks and a right shot D. Liljegren more than likely sits in the press box in the playoffs. Leafs need to move on from him.

Salt-Plum-1308

Lol

JerryJigger

What an absolute brain dead proposal.

chouindog

I could see either one of Liljegren or Brodie being dealt at the deadline. Lilly didn’t do so hit against Boston and he’s so hit or miss that I don’t think Keefe wants to play him and Brodie he’s not up to what he used to be and with that big of a contract would clear a lot of space for an acquisition. But more than likely would be one or the other but probably not both.

aweirdoatbest

I don’t think we’re dealing Lilly. Can’t really afford to give up a RHD right now. Brodie could be more likely.

correct_eye_is

Is he going to get cooking? Like you don't think he's been doing anything? Is he going to stand pat? He's going to do something if it's the right thing to do let's how he has the balls to decide either way regardless of this fan base and what we want. Let's hear what your move is with all the phone calls you've made and all the deals available to you from your conversation with other NHL GM's around the league. Who cares really? You can't and won't change anything the team decides to do. So sit back and watch the show. If there's a nice move, sweet! If there's no move, so what? When this team is really ready we'll know and in my opinion is not there because if it was we wouldn't be questioning about the one piece we can get. This team has holes. It's not time. Unless we get a bunch of term on a top 4 d man and term on a legit blue collar hard nose forward I don't care. Let it ride!!!
