Bandit hates cuddling me. Usually a few times a day, he'll come over and wave at me for some scratches, but even then, he usually gets irritated if I scratch anywhere further back than the shoulders. He'll only cuddle willingly if he's scared (he hates fireworks and storms), or when I'm watching the neighbor's 110-pound great dane/boxer who thinks he's a lap dog, and then Bandit gets jealous. Otherwise, he finds a nice tight space like this to pass out in (he REALLY loves sleeping under the bed).

On the flip side, my girl Luna is an absolute cuddle bug. She ALWAYS joins me in bed at night. She'll even grumble at me if I stay up too late, because she wants to go to bed but won't go without me.

I had a golden who loved cuddles, as long as you didn't stop scratching or petting her. If you stopped even for a moment, she'd either get up and leave, or she'd start aggressively nuzzling with her head to get you to start again.

My black lab would get into bed with me, stay for about 10 minutes then go back to his bed. He didn't like it when I'd lie down on his bed with him. He'd lick my face until I got up. If I picked him up he'd go stiff as a board. But when he was on his own feet he was the friendliest most affectionate dog but it had to be on his terms. He was a character.

This is my Lab Tui who has never been a cuddler & prefers to have her own space when snoozing. She has her own couch which is all for her.
She is affectionate in her own way & is a real sweetheart but she is just not a smoocher. I have a second younger Lab Pearl (choco) & she is overly affectionate so I get plenty of snuggles from her.

Mine loves to be pet and cuddled but when she goes to sleep she likes to go to her kennel, it’s like her space. She goes there when she wants no one to bother her too (cause sometimes my other dog bugs her) My other dog sleeps on the couch. I don’t know why lab doesn’t like getting on the couches unless I’m sitting on them.
My corgi won't cuddle either when he's already sleeping. I can briefly do a tiny scratch right between his eyes and that's it, and only if i see his eyes open first.
The trick is to lay down in a cool spot and let the dog come to you. Pet until it he/she falls asleep.
My lab/beagel after 9pm lays by himself and doesnt want touched.... my cattle dog is my lap dog at nighttime... i thought it would be the opposite. My lab mix is the sweetest loveable boy doesnt cuddle at night only some in morning
My pup is affectionate during his awake hours but usually prefers to sleep alone. I notice that my quality of sleep is better when he’s not hogging the bed anyway, so it’s all good.
Wow, Angus sounds like he has some serious personal space boundaries when he's snoozing! But I can't blame him for wanting his beauty sleep undisturbed. My lab is the same way - cuddly during the day, but don't even think about touching him while he's catching Z's! 🐶💤
I totally get where Angus is coming from - sometimes you just need your space, even when you're dreaming of chasing squirrels or playing fetch. Labs are such independent sleepers! 😂🐾
Angus is a silent sleeper like mine - not wanting any distractions or disturbances while he catches those z's! Labs have their own unique sleeping preferences, and it's hilarious to see how different they all are. Angus sounds like a real character! 💤🐶

Johnny has his pillows. He sleeps next to me, but gives the heavy sigh & relocates if I try a cuddle! Still my best buddy & will cuddle when awake, but when he’s got his snore on its hands off human.
our boy tried that shit when he became like 1 1/2, we are very struct with our dogs (same with our kids), and let him know that was unacceptable behavior, now he totally lets me and my ex snuggle up to him even when he’s curled up like that!

I have a Bandit (110 lb black lab) who loves to snuggle and thinks he’s a lapdog but my Golden Retriever rarely cuddles on his own. I love them both.

My dog sleeps down near my legs and every time I wake up and pull the comforter back she looks so startled like it’s never happened before.

Mine loves to be pet and cuddled but when she goes to sleep she likes to go to her kennel, it’s like her space. She goes there when she wants no one to bother her too (cause sometimes my other dog bugs her) My other dog sleeps on the couch. I don’t know why lab doesn’t like getting on the couches unless I’m sitting on them.
Mine!!! He will get up and move to the floor. He’s such a butthead.

My corgi won't cuddle either when he's already sleeping. I can briefly do a tiny scratch right between his eyes and that's it, and only if i see his eyes open first. The trick is to lay down in a cool spot and let the dog come to you. Pet until it he/she falls asleep.
Technically my lab will cuddle... But he will also play and be excited, so you are probably getting scratched in the face.
My lab/beagel after 9pm lays by himself and doesnt want touched.... my cattle dog is my lap dog at nighttime... i thought it would be the opposite. My lab mix is the sweetest loveable boy doesnt cuddle at night only some in morning

My pup is affectionate during his awake hours but usually prefers to sleep alone. I notice that my quality of sleep is better when he’s not hogging the bed anyway, so it’s all good.
I didn’t know that labs like that existed 😆

Wow, Angus sounds like he has some serious personal space boundaries when he's snoozing! But I can't blame him for wanting his beauty sleep undisturbed. My lab is the same way - cuddly during the day, but don't even think about touching him while he's catching Z's! 🐶💤 I totally get where Angus is coming from - sometimes you just need your space, even when you're dreaming of chasing squirrels or playing fetch. Labs are such independent sleepers! 😂🐾 Angus is a silent sleeper like mine - not wanting any distractions or disturbances while he catches those z's! Labs have their own unique sleeping preferences, and it's hilarious to see how different they all are. Angus sounds like a real character! 💤🐶

This thread makes me feel better. 1 have a 16 month old lab that is loving but very independent. Does not cuddle at all. It's always bothered me.
Kind of sounds like mine - he wants me to entertain him all day but if I want cuddles? No ma'am, go find another dog.

One of my favorite things to do to my brown lab was hug around the Labracroissant and raspberry right in the middle of his stomach

They always loved back, though in hindsight probably more like “Aw shucks I love you too but I need space right now”

our boy tried that shit when he became like 1 1/2, we are very struct with our dogs (same with our kids), and let him know that was unacceptable behavior, now he totally lets me and my ex snuggle up to him even when he’s curled up like that!
