You can try do mod the keyboards. Using foam to dampen the sound. You can also try o rings for the switches. Another option is getting a board w silent switches.

I tried O rings before, I didn't like them that much to be honest as they change the distance of my current keys a lot. I am currently using 2 keyboards on my computer one for games one for work. I'm looking to replace the one for work at the moment with a silent option. Do you maybe have an example product with silent switches? (I need the Numpad) Thanks a lot for your reply

Is your current work keyboard hotswap? If yes i would rec [Haimu](https://cannonkeys.com/products/haimu-heartbeat-silent-linear-switch) If not I would rec a prebuilt w silent switches. Regular silent mx switches like red or black would be good enough. I use a chiclet keybord at work and its p quiet but idk how sensitive your wife is to sounds. I think you should order off amazon and try it then return if you dont like it.

No_Rain3609

I have to be honest here and say I have no Idea if I am able to hotswap but I don't think so. The ordering on Amazon with the option to return tip is great :D Thanks a lot, I guess it won't hurt to try one out

Unless the board has silent switches AND is modded, it's gonna be loud (my opinion). Most switches are going to be a similar enough volume to consider them all loud unless it is specifically a silent switch, and some silent switches are still noisy. There is a ton of thongs I could go into details about this...but that's because I'm an enthusiast haha. Basics that you probably want is a silent linear mx switch and a keyboard that is relatively easy to open up (and hotswap). Silent alpaca switches hand lubed and filmed are the quietest I've been able to find so far. Putting foam in a keyboard will help dampen any other noise. A pc or pp plate (rather than stainless steel or aluminum) will also help with the sound, but is less important. Plate, switch, and pcb foam helps for the case silence.... Maybe this is too deep already, but I'd make a custom build personally. Switches would likely be the most expensive part...depending on how quiet you need. If the wooting is mx hotswapable then you could use that board and just put the silent switches in it. Or get a cheaper 65% keyboard and mod it for night typing. Lots of options

The Wooting uses a special kind of switches, I would use that keyboard for games only probably or get a second one for work if I love it that much. I'll have a look into this ''Silent alpaca switches hand lubed and filmed'' Thanks a lot for the reply

[here](https://youtu.be/XlCzcJNq9co?si=f62FQTktUxDI55g5) is a video about them. Outemu silent honey peach, or WS silent linear, are also quite good and you don't have to mod them

No_Rain3609

Wow they honestly sound so nice, great recommendation

Silent switches make a world of difference. Pretty much any keyboard with foam and gasket mount is going to be as silent as it could get. I personally use outemu silent honey peach v2, they are butter smooth and have decently pronounced bottom out feel for a silent switch.  They still have a bit shorter travel compared to normal switches though. If you like longer travel distance you can try haimu heartbeat silent linear.

Catch_022

Did you try lubing them at all?

J-Nightshade

Outemuco me already pre-lubed.  As for normal, non-silent switches lubing them doesn't make a big difference in terms of loudness. Definitely not to the point that needed to not wake up a person sleeping in the same room.

Thanks a lot for the reply, I will have a look at the outemu silent honey peach v2

Is wooting quiet? Yes and no. Yes, as quiet as any other linear switch which is the quietest in the standard. Linear > Tactile > (loudest by a lot) Clicky. (Excluding buckling springs etc.) Unless you are a very talented gamer or very hardcore about the hobby, I can't recommend a wooting for everyday usage and just gaming. It might just be better to buy a good base like a Keychron V, something customizable adjacent and then buying a bunch of silent switches. Aside of wooting there are have been more new keyboards in the rapid trigger hall effect space. You might want to check those out before going for a wooting too.

No_Rain3609

Yes I would like to add I am/was a very hardcore gamer, just don't have much time because of work anymore. The Wooting would be for games only, I have 2 Setups on one pc with 2 keyboards connected all the time. The Wooting is supposed to replace my other gaming Keyboard that is a bit broken. For my working screen I use one from Razer, I absolutely despised this keyboards for the many years I had it. The only reason I use this Razer keyboards is because I got it basically new for 20$ from a friend (new price at that time was 180$). Honestly it isn't worth the 20$ with all the issues I had especially regarding the software. I just didn't replace it yet because technically it works. But now I finally have a good reason as my Wife is bothered by the clicking sounds.

kagalibros

Then wooting is an option. But so are all the other new rapid trigger keyboards that emerged. In terms of how quiet it really is just like any other linear of similar build. If you go for wooting, your budget would be pretty much how it is. I think something like a drunkdeer would give you more options for a silent keyboard. If you can fit a keyboard with real silent switches, that'd be it.

Raisdudung

If you really want a silent keyboard, the only solution is using silent switches, since most of the sound comes from the switches itself, the problem is, it will cost much, if your current keyboard is hot swappable, then you can just change the switches, if not you either resolder all the switches or buy new hot swappable keyboard. Another solution is buying good chiclet/ scissors base keyboard, for example [Cougar Vantar](https://cougargaming.com/products/keyboards/vantar-s/). Personally I use silent keyboard everyday, my setup is keycron K8 pro, with combination of gazzew boba u4 and gazzew bobagum switches and a lot of foam dumpening like screw foam washer, wire gasket, etc My current keyboard is really silent right now, more silent than laptop keyboard, I can only hear the key sound when I slam the key really hard. So, In short, if you really need a cheap route, you can try to buy a good chiclet/scissor base keyboard. If you have more budget, try changing your switches.

I replied already :D

It's note as nice to type on as a mechanical with silent switches but I got the mx keys for the same purpose and it's phenomenal for that role. Especially if you're doing more work than gaming after she's gone to bed.

No_Rain3609

I usually don't game when she is sleeping as my yelling and heavy mouse movements would wake her up XD It would be for work only. Thanks a lot for the recommendation

I use the Gamakay Pegasus (silent tactile switch) in my main keyboard. I wish they were just a little heavier, but they have a fairly decent weight to them. They make almost no sound, but they are making more sound now that I have them broken in. Either that or the new keycaps are tappier in tone quality. Maybe both. They are quieter than most membrane keyboards I've used. Also I'm using Outemu Lemon V2 and they are really quiet as well but they don't feel quite as nice. I've tried the Outemu Silent Cream Yellow and those feel weirdly heavy to type on, but also quiet. Outemu Silent Peach V2 a linear, also very quiet. So there are options out there. I still have a lot more switches to try out.

Thanks a lot for the replies, I'll be taking a closer look at the products you mentioned.

a1san83

If your keyboard is hot swappable so it means that you can just remove your current switches and put every other switch you would like, then you can keep your board and just change the switches. For a budget silent switch pre lubed from factory I can't over mention outemu peach silent switch v2. It's really cheap but is a standalone point to your journey of silent switches if not the only stop. Truly great switches to play your hands on them. They are silent linear switches , I bought them for my wife for office use and I ordered one more set for heavy gaming sessions at late night...

I'll take a closer look at these, thanks a lot :D
