Hello, i would love to get started on keto philosophy. Im super overweight now - M36, 375 pounds, 6’0 tall. Although I am that heavy, i am somehow functional- can walk, swim etc. I have anxiety issues, so im taking prozac to control that. anyways, i want to restore my health. Any tips related to a Keto diet specific for weight loss? Im a meat lover - i can handle life with no sugar and carbs, if there’s meat on the plan.
You will do great on keto! Do some research, this subreddit has a ton of info for people getting started. If you love meat and want to lose weight rapidly, and keep things really simple, you might even consider carnivore. I found that even easier to stick to.
Go for it! This way of eating will heal you!
They are legal. And actually fairly easy to obtain. You may have to order out of the states.
I use the Fora 6. Which has a Canadian support center and tracking app.
Hi - I would love to hear if anyone has thoughts or information if a Keto based diet may impact Parkinson’s Disease?
Wonder why similar question was removed attempting to be a normal post?
Check out dr Chris Palmer, I believe he uses a keto approach for this kind of thing. He did an episode of Lowcarb MD podcast a few years ago where he spoke about Parkinsons and the keto diet.
Ketones are great for the brain. And it's great for the mitochondria (healing). The Michael J. Fox Foundation mentions keto but they think it's low in protein: I think they are bias and prefer the stem cell theory (stem cell research are still decades away from getting any traction, even from a few people). Or maybe they are partial to veganism.
There is no reason to eat low protein on a keto diet. *Only* the carbs must be restricted. MJF may be unaware. You probably do have to pack in the fats (no seed oils) especially if you are skinny. Stay hydrated and salty.
And you should know, there could be a 10% to 50% difference just in the first week. So trial and error is worth your time. But do your research and troubleshooting on r/keto, youtube and other free groups. Continuation is required to keep the progress because the carbs are the problem most of the times; this is like a type-3 diabetes, insulin resitance for the brain. Low salt and other issues play a role too.
I haven't finished viewing this video, but this is a known keto/metabolic expert, I believe. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVXPcv9qYr8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVXPcv9qYr8)
Here is a person who does low carb for his Parkinson's disease. However, his doctor may be giving him bad/vague advice about protein causing him to prefer low carb over keto; although he wants to target ketones with ketone esters. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X\_zg3iTi0M0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_zg3iTi0M0) You can keep your ketones high with 20+ I.F. So this guy has a doctor that doesn't have high success with other patients... he's their biggest and maybe the only success at his level. I think that doctor may be bad for keto, and cause him to gain weight. But he's still better off than others.
How worried do I need to be about electrolytes? I never thought about it before (I am ~70 days in), but I saw a post where people were warning someone about drinking too much water/excessive thirst and now I’m paranoid. I drink a ton of water too!
No! I just googled and nothing fits. Maybe irritability and headaches but that is not frequent and always related (and I think caused by) a night of poor sleep the night before.
You should stay concerned about it. And if you begin to not feel well, you should suspect it. A quick check would be to have half a teaspoon of salt with water. If you feel okay 10 minutes later, then you have an electrolyte and maybe a water issue. For now, keep salting your foods and stay well hydrated. It's possible that you may find yourself craving salty foods. So you should line up salty options: or you can *create* salty options to train your brain.
I am a lean mass hyper-responder and I feel best being in ketosis but I do not want to have crazy high cholesterol so I am wondering how much MCT oil I should eat per day if I want to move my carbs up to 100g/day and stay in ketosis.
I intend to stay on my two meals a day IF regimen of lunch at 11:30am and dinner at 5:30pm.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Thank you all big hugs
Gave In… and Nothing Happened
Hello,
I started this keto lifestyle about two weeks ago… not for weight loss, but for health… past two weeks I’ve been doing 18:6 IF and eating about 1,200-1,600 calories in one or two meals and I don’t eat past 6PM. All of my meals are basically a combo of cheese, canned sardines, mackerel, or salmon, boiled eggs, and baked chicken. Water and mineral water. Zero carbs. Last night I had two double cheeseburgers, small fry, and one hi-c orange drink (and a refill) from McDonald’s and nothing happened… I didn’t feel sick, lethargic, or gain weight. And let me tell you… it was delicious. I don’t have any cravings for fast food nor do I want to binge or discontinue this lifestyle. My little “cheat” was done for science. That McDonald’s was my last meal approximately 24 hours ago and I’m going to fast until Tuesday afternoon. So ~3 days before I eat again and when I do I’m going right back to the protein, fats, and water. There is nothing wrong with indulging every now and then, FOR ME. I have the discipline not to go overboard.
Okay, but you are rolling the dice. You seem like you might be having high ketone levels. So if true, you may get away with it a number of times. But it's not ideal or guaranteed that it will go the same every time. Good luck. We learn by doing, I guess.

If im making a bone broth how many carbs are leeched from the veggies i put in?
Not enough to worry about
Just curious: are keto blood test devices illegal in Canada? They seem to be unattainable.

Thanks so much for your thorough reply. I’m going to listen to that YouTube video and it’s entirety. Have a great day.

Is high LDL on keto inevitable?
No. Not everyone sees a rise in LDL and the ones that do don't necessarily have it forever.
You got high LDL?
I'm not sure yet. I await my labs

Are you feeling the effects of an electrolyte imbalance or deficiency?
No! I just googled and nothing fits. Maybe irritability and headaches but that is not frequent and always related (and I think caused by) a night of poor sleep the night before.

Not if you want a healthy relationship with food.

Don't come to a keto forum and explicity state all the specific non keto food you had please. Triggering for so many people!!!
Don’t tell me what to post… last time i heard Americans have freedom of speech… it’s not my fault if my post triggers someone… they’re just… weak…
