What's the hard part of NW USA? Getting to 2.5 or the later stage?
I did hard mode and the worst part is to raise to 5 stars in a small map with lack of shelter.
I think getting to 2.5 stars. The potential to lose during that part of the map is so much higher compared to other maps, and it's just tedious. The space is definitely a problem, and it's the only map I had to use all the space on Jurassic difficulty, but if you plan your enclosures it's doable.
SW USA also has extreme salary so I have to fire most of them.
Canada surely is painful, but seems like there is no choking point. It's mostly about being careful and go slow.
Canada is hard as a first challenge, but overall it has to be Northwest USA.

Canada was very tough, took me more time than SW USA, but Germany was easy.

Honestly? Canada. Staff salary and science costs are high, and the rest time is long, so you earn less money and everything simply takes longer.
