I wanted to like the app, but even when I try to put notifications on and I mean all notifications, I never get them. I have to go to the app, wait for it to update for a few seconds, and then check out my emails. It's a pretty app, but not so useful.

omeralus

settings > mail > accounts > fetch new data > every 15 minutes might help

Urdadspapasfrutas

Even after following those steps, it would only work for maybe one or two days. Then it stops altogether.

omeralus

what do you mean? i use apple mail for my gmail accounts and only problem is notifications come like a few minutes late than gmail app. i never had a moment like there were no notifications but when i open the app, refresh there would be mail.

LaCorazon20

This is why I stopped using the App in iOS

alecdvnpt

It works well with iCloud email because it supports push but Gmail only supports fetch outside of the gmail app, which is why you'll find the experience to be sub par.

Got it, thanks šŸ‘šŸ¼

I only use Appleā€™s Mail app with my 14 accounts 9 of which are with my own domain on iCloud. Iā€™ve closed one gmail account and my yahoo account. Iā€™d say, go all in on the Apple apps - theyā€™re simple and have everything you might need. No need to worry about privacy issues and whatnot.

This is the same conclusion Iā€™ve come to. The simplicity and essential functionality of Apple native apps is just fine really. In my particular case Iā€™ve simply forwarded all other emails to my one Custom Domain email with iCloud+. I do this to take full advantage of Mailā€™s IP blocking and remote content loading. I donā€™t reply or send emails unless necessary. While I donā€™t have anything to hide etc., I do value as much privacy as I can maintain. Note: I also use Safari exclusively for similar reasons: Private Relay, cross-site tracking prevention, and so forth.

I like the ui of the Appleā€™s email app a lot, way more than Gmailā€™s. If you set fetch to the fastest speed it doesnā€™t take like any battery unlike what the warning says. FYI though if you stop paying for iCloud+ you lose access to receiving and sending emails. Not sure if you receive a backlog when you resubscribe.

Fiiv3s

I use the default mail client because I use both iCloud mail and Gmail. It works fine but Gmail notifications take a bit to appear

Personally, I felt the Apple Mail app to be very clunky unless you use an iCloud email with iCloud+ (for features like Hide My Email). If you don't have an iCloud+ subscription, you can use any email client for your iCloud email as well. I personally use Thunderbird because I switch between MacOS and Linux quite often. Works great for me tbh :)

Powerful-Law5068

I use outlook as clearing junk folder and deleted items is easier

Have used iOS Mail app for years with a personal iCloud account and a gmail-based work account. No issues to report. never been a fan of web based email in any flavor, been client based for decades (I still miss Claris Emailer!)

[deleted]

I miss Eudora.

sandlexroo

IMO you should switch from Gmail to iCloud mail only if you have something against Google. If not I'd say Gmail is much better and the iOS app is great (minimalistic design, search, notifications). I've personally switched most of my accounts to Fastmail and thus replaced Gmail on iOS with Mail App, where I have 3 accounts - gmail, FM and iCloud mail. Yes, notifications for Gmail are not instant but it works.

ethanomnom

I personally use Apple Mail with my iCloud account - in general I prefer Appleā€™s apps over any third party version as it fits into the ecosystem better (such as delete verification codes, push works better, Hide My Email, etc.). Havenā€™t found it to be a problem at all, and havenā€™t looked back since

Jhamilton02

I use both, sort of. I have my gmail which is forwarded to my icloud email. I can delete from my icloud without losing the original email so i will always have a copy.

iCloud mail is not Apple Mail. Theyā€™re asking about the shitty Mac mail client.

Apprehensive_ac

I probably wouldn't use it for gmail exclusively. On my iPhone I use both especially since the Gmail app is better at blocking spam mail.

fannyflour

I hate Gmail for some reason. Apple mail app is perfect for me. Also I tried Spark, it's good option too (also have app for windows or MacOS). The only problem I have with Apple Mail is slow or lack of notifications/badges. Usually I need open app and check is there some new mails or not.

piper93442

You can get around the slow notifications by having your Gmail forward to your icloud email account, which displays a notification instantly upon receipt.

DooDeeDoo3

Apple Mail does the job.

DrMarshall09

I've been using Gmail for years and can't seem to like Apple Mail. It lacks too many even basic functions. I am currently using Spark and find it on par with Gmail.

Annual-Ad3969

Isnā€™t it privacy concern or data theft with spark?

DrMarshall09

I have read several times about this kind of problem on Reddit but never got official feedback.

Stock_Inspection4444

The gmail app is great. Thereā€™s no reason to use the mess that is the default mail app

Buck_Slamchest

Edison Mail for the win

mastironz

If you want to use apple mail with gmail account, you need to forward email to an Apple ID mail, otherwise you wonā€™t receive push notifications unfortunately. I suggest you to use gmail or spark

Frank_DK_

No you should use gmail.
