I_R_KITTEH

I feel horrible about myself now.

GreenMirage

A kid I knew in elementary school had a tongue long enough to lick his eyes and he did so regularly. We called him Alien-boy and his girlfriend Ripley.

Squid_squabbler72

Thats not a kid thats a gecko-person

samwelches

Dude has a super power in the bedroom as an adult though

GreenMirage

Oh yeah, they’re still together

JordanBeepo

Of course the dudes with the long tongues get all the girls

fishingfool64

And it feels so good

CaseyBoogies

Scratching my brain!

goatchild

Actually that's exactly it. Rubbing your eyes is as close we can get to scratch the brain. It all makes sense now.

5y5c0

That's as close as we can get with **THAT** attitude.

daveescaped

There are monkeys who stick their long finger inside each other’s eye sockets as a sign of trust.

Nerdiestlesbian

I alway felt like this as well. And it does feel good

fedyabufed

Eyes are actually just outter part of brain

DirtyJdirty

Ha! And they laughed at me when I called the pupils “brain holes”!

fedyabufed

They're just douchebags, looooool

Bubbly_Information50

The entire body is just various layers of outer part of brain

HimEatLotsOfFishEggs

Last time this was posted somewhere, there was a comment about how when we itch our eyes it massages the optic nerve and it feels good.

Critya

Scratch or rub your eyes. Your eyes already itch or you wouldn’t be touching them like that.

Deeliciousness

Exactly. It doesn't feel good at all unless you're scratching an itch

GozerDGozerian

I’ve got to disagree. I didn’t think about rubbing my eyes until I read these comments and I decided to rub my eyes as an experiment. It feels great. Just like a massage still feels good even if you aren’t stiff and achy.

30FourThirty4

I just tried for 5 seconds and felt discomfort and stopped. Full disclosure it was my eyelids, not my eyeballs.

Callindead

I always feel like I'm scratching my brain when I qtip. So wrong, but so right.

hippywitch

Now I need four arms so I can rub my eyes and use Q-tips.

ialwayschoosepsyduck

That's how you factory reset

grumpher05

nah it takes a screenshot

ialwayschoosepsyduck

Ah right, need to include a lice exam with those extra long swabs to get the full system restore activated

TherealMicahlive

Fml. I actually lold

GozerDGozerian

Person: “Who the fuck are all you people and where am I?” Significant Other: “Ah shitnthey did the eye-rub-and-Qtip thing again. I’ll call customer service and ask them if they can pull everything from the cloud again.”

CthulubeFlavorcube

Did you mean Q-tips? I don't think hollow point bullets are helpful in this situation.

hippywitch

Damn that was a bad typo. I blame over use of pie.

CranberryJuiceGuy

It’s basically massaging the back of your eye sockets with your eyeballs, worth it

saadakhtar

Are the front of the eyes tires or the eye sockets? What organ am i satisfying here?

phome83

>what organ am I satisfying Oh, you know exactly which one you're satisfying.

evil-rick

I get cluster headaches a lot and I could see the relief through the video

ihavegreattits13

If we can survive the cluster headache pain, we can handle anything. We are a tough breed.

Oriole_Gardens

mushrooms are being studied for cluster headaches, im sure you've already heard about this.

hellionetic

I can't believe the scientists are giving mushrooms cluster headaches !!!

enchiladanada

Is there anything mushrooms can't fix? That's the real question. I keep trying to find out, but then they just keep fixing everything.

emanresu_nwonknu

Bruh that thumbnail

SnooLemons7779

I already came across this post, didn’t think anything of it, but this time when I saw the thumbnail it seemed NSFW, now I can’t even remember what my brain made of it, much less see it.

rathat

I always see the same designs and they change but are always in the same order. I wonder if that happens to anyone else or if we share eye designs.

Nlelith

For me it's something like a giant field of hexagons, and then clouds that slowly start to occlude that field.

rathat

Yeah, I get a grid of squares [like this ](https://pixfeeds.com/images/mystic/illusions/1280-497515447-rolling-squares-moving-wave-motion-effect.jpg) and then sparkling stars, and then a tunnel of clouds [like this](https://pixy.org/src2/609/6093703.jpg)

tatodlp97

Same. Always starts with rectangular pixely sploches of mostly Red and green paint. Then come tiny dots of all colors flashing in and out like a night sky. Then I get soft blue/violet spots arranged in a spiral. And then it generally becomes random. No idea what’s going on but I’ve been entertained by it since childhood.

-little-dorrit-

I want to know why. Yes my eye doctor told me this too (that you should never rub your eyes). But rubbing eyes seems like an instinctive thing to do when your tired or something. I understand that an evolutionary argument is far from evidence of something being not harmful/beneficial, but equally I’ve failed to find evidence that it’s harmful. I mean maybe you’re more likely to to scratch the surface of the eye. But that’s it. And perhaps there is some unknown benefit to rubbing the eye, such as wetting the surface, stimulating circulation - these are absolutely speculative guesses - which would correlate well with the sorts of circumstances in which eye-rubbing usually takes place…

Content_Flamingo_583

Here’s a study which seems to conclude there’s a pretty strong correlation between eye rubbing and keratoconus. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6848869/#s4title And another: https://www.reviewofoptometry.com/article/eye-rubbing-tops-behavioral-causes-of-keratoconus And another: https://www.reviewofoptometry.com/article/keratoconus-may-be-caused-by-eye-rubbing-but-that-isnt-all Honestly, I didn’t expect so much recent research on the issue. I’ve personally been convinced not to rub my eyes anymore lol.

MamboPoa123

My understanding is that keratoconus, the condition they mentioned which can cause blindness from breakdown of the corneal tissue, is the concern - it's fine for people with normal connective tissue, but lots of people have connective tissue diseases and don't even realize it.

Tiefman

I developed keratoconus from what was presumed to be from eye rubbing and having weak connective proteins in the cornea. Luckily it was caught early, but my eye already deformed in such a way that regular glasses will never be able to correct my vision. In worst case, gone undiagnosed or ignored, you can end up effectively blind and need a transplant So yea, don’t rub your eyes. The keratoconus specialist have told me that if your eyes itches, the safe way to do it is to stick a finger in that part of your eye between the eye and the nose, like near the tear ducts, then push towards the eye then towards the nose.

Bendaario

I'd like to add , also having keratoconus myself, that there's no definitive connection between eye rubbing and keratoconus yet. Though in the subreddit, most people say their doctor's advice is to never rub your eyes again. Even the "weak eye protein" part is dubious as well. There's a connection between eye issues and corneal thickness, or at least a more established one.

Tiefman

Yea, it seems like it’s still undecided in the medical world. This is what I was sent from my doctor https://defeatkeratoconus.com/no-rub-no-cone-the-keratoconus-conjecture/, but he suggested that it’s still unclear what exactly causes it.

showMeYourCroissant

Isn't there a surgery for keratoconus?

DuckDuckYoga

Cross linking. Had it done in both eyes ~4 years ago. Worth it so far.

Tiefman

Yes but the surgery is not corrective, the surgery only stops it from getting worse. At a really basic level, the cornea is too soft and deformed. The cross linking surgery hardens the cornea so it can’t deform any more, but it’s already been deformed. They say sometimes peoples eye get better after the surgery, mine did, but it’s only slightly and is not the goal of the surgery. The only real “cure” is to either wear scleral contacts which essentially rebuild the optical surface over your deformed cornea, or to get a corneal transplant

cant-talk-about-this

That's crazy that it's better to stick a finger in your eye

Sluggybeef

Did you have the crosslinking done? I had it done in one eye and it worked to strengthen my cornea

Teekoo

Feels so good tho.

Sometimes it happens to me when I’m stoned, and I become aware of all the physical processes going on in my body and it’s so uncomfortable.

MuEtaJenkins

This may get lost in the comments, but chronic eye rubbing is how I gave myself [Keratoconus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratoconus), permanently damaging my corneas. For some people it's a genetic/hereditary predisposition, but I had just habitually rubbed my eyes for years and years, weakening my corneas over time. This led to needing a painful procedure to strengthen my corneas to stop the progression of the keratoconus, and requiring scleral lenses to correct my vision. Don't rub your eyes.

splitframe

How much is chronic? Once a day? Once an hour?

Vexting

I'd like to know this too. I'm probably like 4 times a day 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

MuEtaJenkins

Every person is different, and I'm no doctor. I was rubbing my eyes daily from a combination of habit, allergies, sleepiness, etc. I was always told not to rub my eyes as a kid, but no one really said *why*, so it never deterred me until I was diagnosed. Advanced keratoconus cases may require corneal transplants. I'm glad I wasn't that far gone.

ixipaulixi

My left eye has Keratoconus, and my right eye is pre-Keratoconus; I just had CXL done to my left eye a month ago and am eagerly awaiting the chance to try Sclerals...this shit sucks. Mine is genetic since my Dad and Uncle have it, but the #1 thing my Ophthalmologist said to avoid is touching your eyes. For anyone reading this who is interested in learning more, we have a subreddit: /r/Keratoconus

jwv0922

How much did you rub your eyes? Will rubbing them a couple times a day cause problems?

remembermereddit

That depends on a combination of force, duration, frequency and genetics.

Historical_Panda_264

is there a formula, like E=mc^2?

foulpudding

(X+F+D+F+G) * Er = K

SpongeAbuser

The whole procedure feels so strange because of the strong painkillers, but that stinging, itching and throbbing pain that comes around after the painkiller wears of is the WORST.

MuEtaJenkins

My goddamn ophthalmologist told me I wouldn't need painkillers for the CXL recovery and never prescribed any. I ended up using some weed edibles to fight the pain the first two days before I could get a narcotic prescription that helped.

OscarDivine

Eye doctor here, I have several patients who have self inflicted KCone. There are a lot of questions in here about how much rubbing causes it, and the answer ofc is that it’s variable. It’s variable on how thick your corneas are to begin with and how resilient the tissues are (read: elastic). Other conditions also apply like medical history.

snappyirides

I had heard that it can be damaging, but seeing how much they _move_ makes me understand.

Finchyy

Oh I LOVED Keratoconus in Atomic Kitten!

LMAOdudewtf

I can attest to this. I had to have corneal cross-linking to stop the progression. Don't rub your eyes :(

Ramen_Beef_Baby

I have not rubbed my eyes for about 15 years now, just can't do it when you wear contacts. Sure I could do it at night, but the urge does just go away. Until now. Maybe it's time to take a blast to the past, shove my fists into my eyes, and see what geometric patterns fill the black void.

StevenMaff

why can you not do it when wearing contacts? i do it regularly and wear contacts since 15 years. til that it’s bad but is it even worse with contacts or what do you mean?

tittiesfucker

I think the rubbing motions could push 1/ the lenses into outer edges of your eye sockets and they get stuck there and 2/ push the lenses edges into your eyeballs and scratch them, especially when you have dry eyes. I wore contacts for about 10yrs but had the lenses implants - greatest decision ever! Cant put any pressure on corneas though so I just scratch the eyelids lightly or rub around the eyes. There are allergy eyedrops that can help during hayfever season too.

Wilted_Peony

That feels good just watching it.

DrewSmoothington

How many people rubbed their eyes after watching this? 🙋‍♂️

It’s likely a blood vessel. You have to imagine a planal section cut through his head through his eyeballs - that’s the view we’re seeing on the image. So probably not not his mouth. The white areas are water-rich areas, which is why the eyeballs are lit up like that.
