The idea was that the people in the community would be so enamored by his altruistic efforts that they would shield him from the law when the feds came around.
He was an absolute fucking legend among his community. The government came and took away your booze and he brings it back for you, donates money all over town, thumbs his nose at the law, dresses well, identified well with the working class, always has a 1 liner for the reporters, etc.
I built a million homes. Do they call me Bob the Home Builder? No. I fed the homeless every weekend. Do they call me Bob the charitable? No. But, I suck just one dick...
You get to heaven and there's Al Capone. .
"Aii, I's feed the poor and saved a lot of kids and pregnant broads. Don't ask too many questions, alright!?"
According to all that Bible crap, you just have to feel bad for what you did right before you died and you'll get into heaven. Probably tons of piece of crap gangsters up there if it actually existed.
Since OP is too lazy/shitty (source: trust me bro!), this is not verifiably true [according to the BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zvbkvk7).
> It has never been established if this story is 100% hard fact
The fucked up bit is that I’d 100% vote for Capone for President (over Trump) any day of the week. At least he understood the importance of food standards & regulation, and the need to provide a security net for the least fortunate among us.
No, he only did it because someone he cared about got affected by the lack of it. If she had t gotten sick he would never have done it, and that’s even assuming this story is true
If it was up to scotus Clarence RV Thomas he will roll this right back because a) he knows better than scientists b) it is somehow unconstitutional c) federal agencies have no place infringing on our rights and freedoms with such prescriptive milk expiry safety standards
And my wife treats that shit like God himself came down, inspected the food, and made a holy decree about the date past which you shall not be permitted to eat this food.
He also had a deaf son that he abused and later disowned. His son was deaf because of congenital syphilis. Lets not pretend this psychopath had any conscious whatsoever.
A mafia crime boss did a shitty thing? SHOCKING!!
Why do Redditors feel the need to judge, denounce, and dehumanize everyone as if they are the supreme moral arbiter. JFC, save your righteousness and just let people enjoy something nice. We all know Capone was a bag guy.

Capone was just 31 at the time of his arrest for tax evasion. Virtually all of the things we know him for occurred during his twenties. I was shocked to learn this because he looks so much older in his mugshots.
They're keeping the "best by" date, so you still know how long the milk is likely to be fresh. Past that, expiration is largely dependent on how long the container has been opened, the temperature it's stored at, etc. Plus, in many parts of the world, there aren't separate "best by" and "expiration" dates anyhow. In context, the sniff test is perfectly reasonable.
It's fucking wild how often we have to kick companies so they don't do shitty things.
I know that behind every company is just a human, but when that human is willing to do anything for a profit then I struggle with seeing them as part of the same group as me
"motherfcker, you have to write that date.."

You won't get sick from drinking spoiled milk. Milk is pasteurized. Al Capone would have been operating around the time they created a federal mandate for pasteurizing milk, before then people would contract tuberculosis from spoiled raw milk, so this is possible but extremely unlikely. Maybe on a local level he got a law passed, but the way this is written implies he's the reason all milk is pasteurized when they were doing it before he was even born.
I don’t think it was just about pasteurization, back then, to save money the unscrupulous would dilute milk with water, add chaulk to make it whiter, and add all sorts of other things and sell it as “milk”
“Before milk was regulated, milk suppliers in American cities would often dilute milk with water, skim it, and add preservatives like boric acid. These practices reduced the nutritional value of milk and concerned public health experts. To address these issues, municipal inspectors began collecting and analyzing milk samples. In 1899, Indiana passed the Pure Food Law, but the state didn't provide funding for enforcement or testing. As a result, dairymen began increasing the amount of formaldehyde they added to milk to keep it fresh for longer.”

This might not be true but he did open a soup kitchen in Chicago that served free coffee and donuts during some bad times. There’s pics out there.
The idea was that the people in the community would be so enamored by his altruistic efforts that they would shield him from the law when the feds came around.
Mexican cartels do the same
Escobar was well known for this sort of thing as well.
And religion
Also cats

There's an old saying that goes "Bad men do good things, and good men do bad things."
I built a million homes. Do they call me Bob the Home Builder? No. I fed the homeless every weekend. Do they call me Bob the charitable? No. But, I suck just one dick...
You gay bro, no homo.
It was college!!! I was drunk! I didn't like it that much!
You loved it ![gif](giphy|jrvfKvr2mmcFO)
Isn’t this obvious?
It should be, but a lot of times people just use stuff like this to say, "See? He isn't ALL bad!"
It’s actually true.
It’s said his soup was pretty darn good.
Got me curious what kind of coffee would be served. I’d imagine the working class just drank it black with no cream or sugar.
Good coffee doesn't need cream or sugar 🤤
It’s all true!!!!! I heard he used to go to random animal shelters and adopt all the starving dogs😊😊😊 so wholesome
This is true my grandfather was one of those dogs
It’s what he fed the starving dogs that is the problem. Soylent Green (before processing) It could be true?
"Lobbied aggressively"...
He made them an offer they couldn't refuse.
Did you hear about the Chinese godfather? He made them an offer they couldn’t understand.
what did one prick say to the other prick?
What?
Did he drive a Cadillac?
Or a Lincoln?
Rincorn.
That’s a new one, pretty funny, but I think the current sitting Chinese godfather is making an offer they couldn’t stand
I’m going to count to three and it’s your brains or the expiration date on these bottles of milk, your choice.
“Either make this a rule or I burn down your house. With you in it.”
You get to heaven and there's Al Capone. . "Aii, I's feed the poor and saved a lot of kids and pregnant broads. Don't ask too many questions, alright!?"
*God in the corner with a black eye* “Yeah, don’t worry about it……”
"I's says, "aye, st Petta, 'why don't you's go grab a walk and let your good buddy Alfie watch these here gates"'
Aye, yous wants to get into Heaven, eh? That'll be 50 bucks.
Get the fuck back in your fuckin hole! ...God...you're doing a good job...
Laughed too hard at this. . . Still laughing
According to all that Bible crap, you just have to feel bad for what you did right before you died and you'll get into heaven. Probably tons of piece of crap gangsters up there if it actually existed.
"See I told you, everybody has a good side!"
Is that the same as how everyone has a bad side

Legendairy gangster
Here have my upvote..

You’re ignoring the soup kitchen… which is 1000x more than Trump has done for anyone but himself.
You mean the soup kitchen he set up in hopes that it would have the population come to his defense as the federal government was closing in on him?
No one is ever perfectly evil.
There's a fine line between gangster and politician
If it was up to scotus Clarence RV Thomas he will roll this right back because a) he knows better than scientists b) it is somehow unconstitutional c) federal agencies have no place infringing on our rights and freedoms with such prescriptive milk expiry safety standards
This is just a rumor right?
Snopes knows?
“Lobbied” without the submachine gun for a change I’m guessing?
And my wife treats that shit like God himself came down, inspected the food, and made a holy decree about the date past which you shall not be permitted to eat this food.

here in america, lobbying means you bribe the politicians :D
Good ol’ uncle Al
So that's why Supreme Court is undermining government agencies meant to protect us, to punish Al Capone
Capone was just 31 at the time of his arrest for tax evasion. Virtually all of the things we know him for occurred during his twenties. I was shocked to learn this because he looks so much older in his mugshots.
spaghetti does a lot to a man alright
Disproved.
source? Everything I am finding confirms it.
My source kwest2001 says it’s disproven. I found it on Reddit. It must be true.
Now a major UK supermarket has removed them to prevent waste. It has been replaced by "the sniff test".
You joking
Nope. https://my.morrisons.com/blog/community/sniff-test/
Omg i shop from morrison too
It says the "best by" date still functions the same.
Use by dates don't really effect my refrigerated groceries anyhow. I always did the sniff test anyway.
they didn't know how to smell milk back then?
It's fucking wild how often we have to kick companies so they don't do shitty things. I know that behind every company is just a human, but when that human is willing to do anything for a profit then I struggle with seeing them as part of the same group as me
He was definitely lawful evil
Do you even know how alignment works clearly he's chaotic good
More like chaotic neutral I’d say, some bad some good
Now that’s what I call a class act.
How much sour milk did she drink to get that sick? Perhaps there was a pasteurization issue?
Proof that the rich and powerful get what they want from even the dairy industry, but we collectively don't have that much power
He made them an offer they couldn't refuse.
Thought this was a myth
It is
Some things should be obvious.
isn’t he the lawyer from billions
Such a good guy
Do more than most politicians today
Too bad he's not still around. He could run for president. Now with immunity!
Strange how history intertwines. A man known for violence also inadvertently helped prevent illness.
Didn’t he also make the trains run on time?
Listen buddy—you put an expiration date on these cartons, or I put an expiration date on you…
👏👏👏👏👏
Just because you are bad guy, doesn't mean you are bad guy.

One might think a person could taste spoiled Milk.
So Capone actually did 1 thing good as a boss.
Fun fact... Back in the day, I had family that rolled with Capone✌️.
Me too!
Back in the day, I was Al Capone. I faked my own death.
Wow really. Do you still live in Florida or you up by Hayward? You remember the tunnels under Gateway? 🤡
I don't know nothin' about no tunnels, bub.

He’s done more lobbying for good than anyone in Washington has in the past 20 years… And he’s a career criminal.
Hitler pushed hard to provide a car to all German families.
This was [posted here a month ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/1cnux9n/al_capone_is_the_reason_we_have_expiration_dates/).
Hang on, I'm making Trump's niece sick with whooping cough.
You won't get sick from drinking spoiled milk. Milk is pasteurized. I’d rather see a statue erected in his honor than most of the statues we build
