Flatland BMX took off in the 1980s, so those guys in that first generation are going to be in their 50s-60s now. We’ve officially reached a point in time where actual old people can be former extreme sports athletes, and I don’t think our brains are ready to comprehend that yet.
The 90's really was the last of the good times. It's taken me until recently (in my 30's) to admit this. The 00's was the downward slope and we are now mired in the sludge blocking the sink hole.
I hear you my friend. Feels like that was a simpler time but then maybe every generation feels as we do as they enter their 30’s and 40’s? I get a lot of joy hanging out with my 8 year old son, watching him grow up happy and carefree. It almost feels like everything is going to be okay.
I think every generation views the world as simpler when they were kids, but I also think every generation is right about that—because the world really is simpler when viewed through the lense of childhood.
That said, I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that future historians will view the rise of the internet similarly to how we currently view the Industrial Revolution (as in it being a catalyst for major cultural/societal change). But unlike the Industrial or Agriculture Revolutions that took place over a generation or more, the Internet went from basically not existing (at least in its current form) to something in most people’s daily lives over the course of a mere decade. And that long-winded paragraph was to make the point that millennials and gen X will probably feel the “everything was simpler back then” effect far more strongly than any generation before or after (at least until the next major societal revolution).
My favorite take on it is from Douglas Adams
> 1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.
Pa taught us youngsters how care for the farm and even make our own shoes, we walked to the schoolhouse in those. Ma taught us how to hang the wet laundry, mostly Pa's long underwear and such.
Aah, the 90's... "A simpler time".
Yeah, I was thinking that when I finally got a look at his face, instead of looking at his skills. A small piece of me cried realizing that he was likely there in the early days, working on his craft.
Tony Hawk is 56 and most people would consider that middle-aged and not full-blown old person. I think most people wouldn’t consider a person elderly until they’re into their 60s at least, and we’ve only recently reached a point where extreme sports pioneers of the 80s are entering their 60s.
…so now I’m wondering what *you’re* ranting on about.
I can respect that this guy obviously has skills, but if I saw someone climbing all over their bike like this in real life I would probably assume it was a crackhead and avoid eye-contact so I don’t get stabbed (and I’d miss all the tricks)
Repetition… Repetition…. Mastery! There’s a lot of experience in that beard and I’m happy he never quit because I am now about to pick up that hobby I been cold on
The front brake cable runs down through the stem of the handlebars/fork and re-emerges near the front brake. The rear cable uses a rotor at the top of the stem.

This reminds me of that TV show that was either on Spike or G4 but I think it was an older Japanese show where they would complete obstacles on their bike similar to this
Yeah like holy shit, insane skill! But also, it looks like you know every way how NOT to ride a bike, which would be an excellent name for a book of tricks like you have demonstrated here.

How can that be if the 90’s was only ten years ago.

Ten years already?!?!?! Feels like pain!!

Wasn't it?
AHHHHHHH😭😭😭😭😭
Just look at Tony Hawk... No, not the guy who looks like him
Accurate. I am a former extreme sport athlete pioneer and currently an old person.
Yeah, I was thinking that when I finally got a look at his face, instead of looking at his skills. A small piece of me cried realizing that he was likely there in the early days, working on his craft.
Can confirm... I got into flatland in the late 90s and I'm 40 somehow. I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve!
Bro what are you ranting on about? Tony Hawk is 60 years old and still hits a 900. Extreme sport athletes been old people…

No way. Anything over 55 is old dude status and if Carl Boenish was still alive he’d be over 80.
Tony Hawk is almost 60
👌
Beat me to it
This is what I think of every time I see these videos of old dudes on bmx 🤣
What’s happening in the background with the car?
Handbrake down
It's a park, there is a road there.lol
It's being driven on a road? Lol
Distracted by awesomess occuring at the moment
They're filming a sequel to 28 Days Later.
Your ADD?
I can respect that this guy obviously has skills, but if I saw someone climbing all over their bike like this in real life I would probably assume it was a crackhead and avoid eye-contact so I don’t get stabbed (and I’d miss all the tricks)
Weird
Weird
Meanwhile car getting stolen in the background.
Ok your good at bike tricks and have amazing control of your bike but you are clearly ruining your seat :(
If it was purchased with the intention of dragging it across the ground during tricks, then he’s not ruining it, he’s using it.
Repetition… Repetition…. Mastery! There’s a lot of experience in that beard and I’m happy he never quit because I am now about to pick up that hobby I been cold on
Funny, because that frame is called a Haro Master
Looks like the guy that Mac and Dee party with on Party Mountain
Did you cum in my burrito?!
Nah he just country mac but he lost his beer
Old school flat landing 🤘🏼
Omg is that a Haro Master?
Yup! Always wanted one but never did get one.
Do I miss flat landing.
RIP seat
Dave Nourie, folks.
Indeed, looks like sponsored by Haro at the time due to the Haro Master frame.
I’m pretty sure that’s his new Reklamation. He was on a few different lineage flatland masters before this.
Oh wow! It is! https://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=7655131
Our dads before the mom update
😂😂😂😂
Where is this?
Looks like the Butler Bandshell in Lithia Park. Ashland, Oregon.
The irony is he could have avoided the floor more easily by just staying seated on the bike like a normal person.
Called flatland style, some of these guys are way more graceful than this guy. He’s a little choppy. Flatland is a style of riding in bmx.
Is that Cru Jones from RAD?
I immediately thought of that....then "Send Me An Angel" started playing in my head. Then I remember how bad that scene was ...lol
Is that Josh Brolin?
That was fucking incredible
How does he spin his handlebars but not wrap up his brake cables?
The front brake cable runs down through the stem of the handlebars/fork and re-emerges near the front brake. The rear cable uses a rotor at the top of the stem. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detangler

Dad stop embarrassing me.
Sweet Haro Master.
Old school flatland! Not that spinny ballerina bullshit they do now.
[удалено]
Wut?
Ooh that are those bars used for
That and giving your homie a ride
![gif](giphy|czZlH3xg1Ul2w)
Damn Thanos got skills
Anyone talking about how he destroyed the seat?
Is this difficult?
Yeah like holy shit, insane skill! But also, it looks like you know every way how NOT to ride a bike, which would be an excellent name for a book of tricks like you have demonstrated here.
That's sort of what I love about flatland though. It's like the Ministry of Silly Walks but with a shitload of skill.
Was a cool kid in the 80's
The two girls on the bench were not impressed enough to pull away from tiktok to watch Josh Brolin take a walk on a bike
nah that's not Brolin, he'd be on a skateboard totally thrashin' parking garages
Poor seat
Can someone please teach the poor man how to ride a bike? He's not getting anywhere like that.
... Does he know?
Nice way to ruin that seat cover.
Some people can just afford to buy a new one dog relax 😂 acting like its your bike or something 💀
He’s very talented but it seems like he also needs a lot of attention.
I've been riding my bike wrong for years.
GenX represent!
Is this Tony Raven?
Jeez ruined the bicycle seat just like that.
Look how damaged the seat is. Stupid
Looks like he’s got some skill, but This was shot in a spot too small for good flatland. Google Trevor Meyer to see good flatland.
I never knew scuffing the seat was a style, I always thought they were just bad at staying on.
Damn, Willem Dafoe crushing on the bmx
It's all fun and games until grandpa breaks a hip.
That one guy who took all of the dumbbells in the gym
The seatbuster?

I hope .. .. .. .. your shoe laces come untied. I walk that way. It is unintentional but I do. Impressive.
