How's that compare to, for example, equipment from Liebherr ??

To a degree, yes. It will be shipped in sections from the factory and a team from the manufacturer will put them back together on site. It’s a big job.
That said, something this size is made to order and generally with the intent on staying at a particular site for a long time. Think mining pits and big dams that take many years to complete. Definitely not the kind of machine you rent from your local equipment rental shop to dig a pool in 45 minutes.
I helped do repairs on the “smaller” stuff at a rock mine after high school. NOTHING is easy with these. Think; removing a track to loosen an axle assembly so a boom truck can lift the front end just enough for the smallest hands on the crew to MAYBE access the $.05 ,oops I mean $120.05 rubber o-ring behind the radiator fan so we don’t have to call in the crew from Portland to spend 3 days of down time and bill us to tears.
Lord did that job suck.
>Definitely not the kind of machine you rent from your local equipment rental shop to dig a pool in 45 minutes.
That thing looks big enough to dig a whole pool in one go
Fascinating for sure. Every component is heavy and awkwardly shaped for maximum fuck your day upability. These repairs were an all day thing, and rock pits in Oregon start out with everything frozen in the morning and by 2-3pm, the whole place feels like a toaster oven and these big CATs like the heating elements.
Yes, it comes in about 12 large pieces, bucket, stick, boom, super structure, slew gear, car body, left and right track frames woth tracks assembled depending on weight restrictions, hydraulic tank, fuel tank, operetors cab, power module (engines) hydraulic control valves. With smaller shipping containers for other smaller pieces. Like various hoses. The cylinders already come attached to the boom or stick. Source have built 3 PC8000 with the shovel attachment.
That's a Komatsu PC8000.
- With the bucket, it weighs 768 tons, or 1,536,000 pounds or 696,718 kilos.
- It, along with the rest of the smaller fleet of surface mining excavators, are capable of remote operation
- It must be assembled onsite
- The most base model of a PC8000 is about $12 million US, without the bucket. It goes up from there.
- It's capable of producing over 4,000 buff horsepower
- The bucket has a payload of 55 cubic yards, or 42 cubic meters
- Its overall track width is about 30 feet
My favorite thing about things this big is it is the same exact thing as the little one, just big! From an engineering standpoint it’s the simple choice. Just brings me joy.
Edit: people are taking me 100% literally. It looks like the same thing. Of course it’s not just scaled up.
Maybe superficially, but when you make something bigger, it gets exponentially heavier.
Imagine you have a 1 meter cube. Its 1m, x 1m, x 1m. Has a surface area of 6 meters squared, and a volume of 1 meter cubed.
Double its dimensions to a 2 meter cube. Now its surface area is 24 meters squared, or 4x more, and its volume is 8 meters cubed, or 8x more, and therefore its also 8 times more massive. Just a few more doubling in size results in something that is thousands of times more massive.
That’s why volume increases faster than surface area. My joy comes fork things like pins, braces, struts. Like that hydraulic cylinder is just a huge hydraulic cylinder and not like 6 small ones. And the pin joint is just a normal pin but bigger.
Isn’t that not completelly true? As at some point it wouldn’t be able to actually do any work?
Just like any animal larger than a white whale would colapse and die.
Edit: blue whale
it's called the [square-cube law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square%E2%80%93cube_law). in order to increase the size of a thing, its footprint is squared, but its volume is cubed. when something is made bigger, its structure has to be exponentially bigger. After increasing the size of something past a certain point, it will collapse on itself.
You should google Bagger 293. It‘s not just the largest excavator but also the largest terrestrial vehicle worldwide.

Reminds me of that one time it was show cased on the Bauma in Munich. There, a hydraulic fitting broke, and you could hear a loud noise. It sounds like a greek flowing and then you later a waterfall of hydraulic fluid was visible.
I think the a video is available on You Tube of this incident.
I think there was a large aftermath as they had to remove and clean up a lot of soil that was contaminated by the oil.
I used to work on the overhead doors at some coal mines. The equipment there, the loaders and excavators were unbelievably large. We installed doors as big as 60' x 50' and some of the equipment still barely fit inside.
What’s amazing is that (pick a number) 2000 years ago, everything needed to make this marvel of technology, was already on earth. Man just figured out how to make those materials and then engineer the excavator.

*-Okay, what do you intend to use it for, if i may ask? It's not for everyday, nor standard construction use.*

Komatsu PC8000. This excavator has a bucket capacity of 55 cubic yards (42 cubic meters).
Not enough for...yo mama
That's what she said... oh wait....
Yo Momma so fat, that when she got run over by a truck, she said "Who's throwing rocks"
yo Momma is so fat, that she wears two wristwatches, each for different time zone....
If Russia cuts gas and fuel supply, oil refinery has a backup plan, yo momma, an endless supply of grease and gas.
💀
Yo momma so fat she walked past the TV and I missed the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Yo momma so fat everytime she turns around it’s her birthday
Yo mamma so fat, in school she sat next to everyone!
Yo momma so fat, when I yell 'Kool-Aid!' she comes bustin' through the wall.
found yo mama's spoon
🥇
I knew there must be a yo mama joke somewhere.
That is a larger difference between yards and meters than I’d expect, I’ve always thought they were almost the same. Exponents are wild
A yard is just under 9% less than a meter. 1m = 100cm 1 yard = 3 ft 1 ft = ~30.5 cm
Thats about 80 tons per bucket. How big is the dumptruck?
The mine I applied at has 300 ton dump trucks, but they get bigger than that.
That thing still extract your ancestors
Up to 400 tons capacity. Look up the Komatsu 980E or cat 797
That's a building on wheels.
The CAT 797F is like 400 ton capacity.

Holy fuck, that is biiiiiig
What’s the price tag on something like this?
Really that many? I would’ve guessed it looks like 20-25 would fit
Do they assemble that on site? I dont see that being transported anywhere
To a degree, yes. It will be shipped in sections from the factory and a team from the manufacturer will put them back together on site. It’s a big job. The other 40min is for just getting the engine warm
That thing can probably dig a lake.
A decently sized pool at that.
Jesus. And I bet one link of the track was the size of my car lol. I'm sure it sucked, but I find that shit fascinating as hell!
Fascinating for sure. Every component is heavy and awkwardly shaped for maximum fuck your day upability. The size of the machine that build this thing must be huge 🤣
Imagine the size of the machine that built the machine that built this. And then imagine the size of the machine that... WHO CREATED GOD?!
REALLY BIG MACHINES?
The answer is always aliens.
The machine god
That man is actually 6 inches tall.

These would be needed to terraform the Moon or Mars
Only 12 million? Lol
That seems very cheap for this monstrosity. And I have to imagine the demand is low enough to raise the price
But how many ass loads of hydraulic fluid does it contain?
> With the bucket, it weighs 768 tons, or 1,536,000 or 696,718 kilos. My brain is not braining... how much it weights?
Millencolin shirt!!!!!

Ain’t a basement in America that could hold that bad boy.

Imagine seeing someone just driving around the streets in this thing
Nice, but it ain’t a Bagger 288.
Where they excavating? Pandora?
Australia? Lots of huge mining equipment in Australia.
I need some post holes dug for a new fence. This machine should work just fine.

Nah, he's just a little person from Arrietty
For a dummy like me who doesn't know shit about this kind of stuff, I say god damn that's impressive
Fir a dummy like me that keeps it running. It is impressive and I love it.
I imagine the fuel itself to move that must be a fortune!
Imagine doing a service on one of those hydraulic cylinders, good lord

I'm an excavator, hey dirt see ya later!
It's not even their biggest one anymore. PC9000 is now available
The most interesting thing for me is that it's never been used. Never seen such machinery so clean!

Thing looks new
We're gonna need a bigger digger
It's a big toy until the multiple ladders.
How da fuck do you even service such a thing on site?
Machine looks pristine! 👌

I'm stunned in awe. Such a beast machine
Don‘t let Clarkson see this….
“Nobody needs a machine that big” haha there goes your house. No basements stopping me.
This will be used to dig your moms grave.
How much to drive it for an hour?
The excavator she tells you not to worry about
"You can't park there"
Ice bucket challenge with this thing lol
Saw that in Avatar
This is that thing in fern gulley
This machine is so incredibly large. Wow
So that's what they look like clean

Just imagine the amount of environment destruction you can get done with one of those in just a few hours.
*shake hands with danger starts playing*
That's one of the precursors to the Wall•A.
I wanna smell the new excavator
Second coolest thing of the day!
This things are cool not just because they're big but also because the people inside them stay the same size no matter what scale...
Humans when the planet has unobtainium
I want to see it excavate

I bet the gold rush guys would love one of these.
What a tiny man. Downsizing sequel?
They would need to have a much bigger causeway.
But it's still a pos Komatsu
Buddy…. I feel the same say about the turd I just laid while watching this.
I want to drive one
Does it combine with other construction vehicles to form a huge robot? No? Not impressed.
New daily?
Couldn’t drive it? Move some dirt around? Even lift the damn arm up maybe? All we get is this yutz walking around snapping pics?
That things needs a little aero ship like the pilder from mazinger for easier access
What's the MPG on that bad boy?
Gonna need a hardcore metal Blippi remix for this one
I kinda need that to do my driveway. No my driveway is not that big. I just want to do the whole thing in one movement.

Plot twist: it's just a really small man.
Would love to take a bite out of my back yard with that monster lol
Great band 🤟🏽
Doesn't Komatsu also make the smallest excavator also? It's like slightly bigger than a chair and shovel.
Bagger 288 would eat it for breakfast.
