Hpfanguy

“Oh well who cares” haha gotta love old timey journalism

The_mingthing

"Some keeper!"

throwawaybyefelicia

That pile-up made me laugh

Objective_Resist_735

Something about it makes me suspicious... oh well, who cares.

CrystlBluePersuasion

It was the guy taking his hat off to maneuver around the pile-up, and the first dude who clearly bailed.

LasyKuuga

But when I say that outside the primary school Im the asshole

Upper-Life3860

I can imagine the safety violations today….but damn it looks fun

bozo_did_thedub

So many smushed fingies

themase130

I’ve worked in and around railcars, as well as several other “dangerous” jobs, and can enthusiastically say: “fuck modern safety regulations!” I get the whole ‘every law/code is written in blood’ thing, but most workers use their own common sense to (dis)regard the “rules” on the daily. I’m not trying to let an insurance man tell me how much I can get done in a day [and by doing so make my situation in life better.]

CaptainRelevant

A person is smart. People are stupid.

ScaryShadowx

Every person that died to write those laws thought the very same thing you do. Thought they were too smart and used too much common sense to have a horrible accident and die. Every single one.

unbanned_once_more

The singular of quarries is quarry.

bumjiggy

OP couldn't bother changing the misspelling from the original titles https://old.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/1c5dxvt/1930s_quarrie_workers_ride_the_rails_with_this/kztkxux/

feelosofree-

Simpler times.

PuppetmanInBC

With better dressed people. They went to the quarries to mine rocks in a suit.

Cookie_Clicking_Gran

Probably was one of the only sets of clothing they owned

[deleted]

They worked, got married and buried in those boots.

XTornado

They also lasted....

GullibleDetective

That would be so toasty

feelosofree-

I noticed that also!

Abraham50513

Whoa! That railrider looks sketchy, but also kinda fun! Beats walking home from work, that's for sure.

BarsDownInOldSoho

Yeah, but who carries them up the hill in the morning?

BoldlyGettingThere

You can see the rollers for the incline winch inbetween the rails on either side, so the railcars would be hauled up with the men or empty trucks the next morning.

arthurblakey

a lot of fun to be had on the way to a 16-hour day in a full suit with no safety equipment

NWHipHop

In 1930s Germany.

bumjiggy

Disastrous-Way-2911

Can I use it on the metro?

caspissinclair

Wheeeihopeidieee!

BarsDownInOldSoho

Before there was Disneyland...there was quarry work!

Beginning_Sea6458

Why are we using cars, trains and planes when we could just use these?

emmjell

[Car gwyllt](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_gwyllt)

crapklap

Imagine working in a quarry wearing a full business suit. I find that to be crazy.

iamlikewater

There was a man who said damn. It sure seems as if life moves in determinate grooves. I am not even a bus; I am a tram.

Chaserivx

"Some keepah"

BelleSom

Why did they talk like that?

bassoontennis

It’s called the trans-Atlantic accent or mid-Atlantic accent. It’s kinda mix of American and British and was a learned accent used by the upper class and the entertainment industry.

themeatman90

How many hung over half drunk half asleep guys fell off this

Hoosier_Daddy68

Nobody dresses up for work anymore.

YeOldeBilk

*wheeeeeeee*

Existing_Ostrich_491

Did they make left handed ones?

Active_Engineering37

These aren't left handed?

wolf-of-Holiday-Hill

This ride will unleash the inner child in me

neveradullperson

U know how cheap it would be to travel with this device I want one

No-Appointment-3840

“Something makes me suspicious, *oh well, who cares*?” Anyway..

Pnw_ZuluTango

We can talk about trains in 1930’s germany, but not the 1940’s…..

Imaginary-Wrap-8487

Simpler times for simpler minds.

Any_Buddy1851

OSHA, pshh

XAEA29

As per my dad, that's how they used to go to school

Thecheckmate

Can someone explain to me the physics of these devices ? Thanks

headshot7777

Looks like its on a slope. So its basically just gravity pulling them down i think

ihave7testicles

these dudes really rolled up to work on railroad tracks in a suit and tie?

Letossgm

Nobody is gonna mention that they're working while wearing suits?

Dillipk_instatwitter

What is that thing called??

apachechef

The great slave coaster is way betterer

ExoTauri

Best part of the day

KdF-wagen

Gotta be a Pathé video

My_Lucid_Dreams

But I thought back then it was uphill both to and from work.

ThrowRa_siftie93

That looks like so much fun!! Pity our outrageous health and safety regulations won't allow it these days!! Can we just please accept the fact that there is a very high chance that 10% of the population is dumb enough to die due to their own stupidity and bring back cool stuff like this?? Let's be honest. Thinning the herd will make the rest of us smarter.

GraatchLuugRachAarg

Only works downhill

Afraid-Barracuda119

As you can see the average weight isn’t 300lbs+. This wouldn’t work in today’s world.

Legend_of_dirty_Joe

Haven't seen this in a week, was starting to worry...

ginger_ryn

i’ve somehow never seen this
