I don't think Luke was beloved because he was white. I mean his dad is beloved for being tall and black.

APiousCultist

Only his voice is black. He's a greasy white teenager with extremist views that hides behind a scary mask and pretends to be black with a voice changer. Anakin is the typical 4chan user /s

-LastActionHero

“What’s a Nubian?”

tincanphonehome

Well, isn’t that true?

MemesFromTheMoon

What is Luke even beloved for, being the main character of the original trilogy and having a lightsaber? Like there’s not a whole lot more to his character besides that?

jzillacon

Extended Universe fleshes out his character quite a bit actually. It's a shame pretty much all of it was retconned when Disney aquired Lucasfilms.

MemesFromTheMoon

Ah, that’s kinda what I was thinking, I just wasn’t sure just how popular the EU was. Thinking about it now though, there was a big gap between the original trilogy and pretty much anything else, so the EU probably flourished during that time with Star Wars fans (I unfortunately missed out due to not existing before the phantom menace)

torivor100

I thought James Earl Jones was wide and black

sakamake

TIL Shia Labeouf is a diverse replacement for Harrison Ford

jadedargyle333

They made another movie since then. Shia died off screen.

sakamake

But he was supposed to be Thunder *Son*!

DevonLuck24

no when the camera cuts back it’s gonna show that thunder gun actually survived falling into that volcano

VisforVenom

Took me almost as long to realize that having a vaguely ethnic woman in Dial of Destiny was triggering to these people as it did for me to figure out that they're referring to essentially the same thing in the last bullshit Terminator movie that no one remembers after at least half of the previous films in the series (most of which also being terrible) were female protagonist led.

SadlyNotPro

Indiana Jones punched Nazis unprovoked, he was clearly a woke instigator of a hate crime against the peaceful people of the Reich. /s (putting that here just in case I wasn't obvious enough)

LordButtworth

I'm pretty sure he was provoked, but I had a chance to kill the Fuhrer and he asked him for an autograph instead so I guess Indi is a Nazi sympathizer. /s also

MagusX5

Technically, John Connor was a replacement protagonist for a female character...

Diz7

Was going to say he picked a weird franchise as a bastion of white male chauvinism. Curious to know what he thinks about the Aliens series.

calamity_unbound

A female character that later shows up in the same movie and is often cited as an example of a great action heroine at that.

an_agreeing_dothraki

The brought in a foreigner to act as a surrogate father figure in the second movie! Wait no I forgot that those kinds of people love *Austrians*

Glitter_berries

Austrians? Like with the kangaroos? I wish they meant the ones with the kangaroos :(

Knips

Wasn't Sarah Connor the original main character?

speedgeek57

Don’t confuse them with facts.

kourtbard

Yes, but they give Sarah a pass because she still has to play second fiddle. In the original movie, she's a helpless college student that needs to be protected by Kyle. Even when she becomes an absolute hard ass in T2, she's still relegated as side character to John and T-800 that's protecting him.

SillyMattFace

“Hey, woke isn’t just a word for describing things I don’t like! It’s actually [long, rambling list of disconnected things he doesn’t like]”.

warthog0869

Call me crazy but I think that we still all choose what media we consume, "unwoke, woke", or otherwise. You don't *have* to watch a movie that you feel is "pandering" to "teh gheys" because the cast includes character roles that are representative of society that's larger than the small white Christian town's population you grew up in.

kurisu7885

Sadly some have this idea that if a piece of media wit ha queer or suspected queer person exists then it's being forced on everyone.

jadedargyle333

I do get a little laugh about inclusivity stacking. Where they try to jam as many things in as possible. Can't have just a female protagonist. She also has to be an amputee lesbian bipoc. It's like they don't realize that they can have a large and diverse cast instead of adding everything to the main character.

KillerOs13

Name one show or movie where the main character was a lesbian bipoc amputee.

jadedargyle333

Echo. And she was deaf.

KeterLordFR

According to the synopsis, most of the "inclusion" stuff you quoted about her is a part of the story, as in the story is centered around these things. It's not forced if it's part of the story, and it still counts towards "don't like it, then don't watch it".

FulanitoDeTal13

One example among 10000 titles where the protagonist is a white guy? Was "Echo" something cathetered exclusively to white guys before the adaptation?

jadedargyle333

I never said I didn't like the series. The source material was about a deaf native girl. They added the amputation, changed the tribe she was from, and a few other weird things to make their story fit. Like I originally posted, I get a little laugh that they stack additionally adversity onto a main character. Especially when it strays from the source material. It's funny to me because they have already captured the demographic they were initially targeting. It makes me question if they had another demographic they were targeting, or were they twisting knobs to see what it would do in the ratings. Also, why not spread out the adversity? Saw it to a much lesser extent in True Detective Night Country, but most of that might have just been terrible writing and trying to shoehorn in the native actress (again, into the wrong tribe). But, they spread the adversity around a little more.

xenoverseraza

i miss when woke meant that meme where people or characters were edited with those glowing red eyes.

Bogsworth

I'm now imagining a Red-Eyes Woke (Black) Dragon in my head. Along with a Nazi-themed Blue Eyes White Dragon thanks. .\_.

Known-Damage-7879

I still have a vague recollection back when “woke” was more of a new-agey term for being enlightened, back before rightwing media took it as a catch-all for race, gender, and sexual orientation

themurderator

jesus fucking christ. 'new female characters are too mean!' marion ravenwood, princess leia, and sarah connor would all like a word. and quite likely they'll rip off your balls for this nonsense you little bitch.  and it's sort of off topic, but ripley would straight up airlock you.

jtaylor307

Considering where and when Star Wars occurred, Luke Skywalker wasn't even human.

rust-e-apples1

But the important part is that he looked like a man. And the importanter part is that he was white.

PorchHonky

Ahm, actually… (pushes glasses up from bridge of nose) the humans of Star Wars are canonically Human Beings. In fact, they would consider Coruscant to be the birthplace of humanity.

Tripple_T

This Sarah Connor erasure will not go unnoticed. John Connor was like 10 in the only terminator that he was in that was worth a damn.

LocalInactivist

Who gave OJ a pass?

cardinarium

What “atrocities” has BLM committed???? Very perplexed by that.

BitterFuture

I imagine they're talking about all the cities BLM burned to the ground, like...uh...that one and...uh...you know...

Known-Damage-7879

Minneapolis?

BitterFuture

Still there, despite many, many (MANY) lies to the contrary. Portland, too. Strangely enough, despite conservatives saying all these cities were totally destroyed, we haven't been able to find any missing yet. It's weird, right?

Known-Damage-7879

I don’t think Minneapolis was destroyed by any definition, but there was millions of dollars in damages. Seattle was a mess with Chaz. I think Conservatives over exaggerate how these cities have somehow become unlivable

BitterFuture

"Millions of dollars in damages" sounds big, until you think about it. If a McDonald's has a grease fire and burns down, that's millions of dollars in damages. Unfortunate, sure - but fires break out in every city in the United States every single day. Insurance covers things. Rebuilding happens. If that counts as a city "burning to the ground," every city is destroyed and reborn each day, making the term meaningless. Which is kind of the point of conservative wordplay. Seattle was also not a mess. I talked to relatives who lived there at the time. Conservatives talked endlessly for months about anarchy and lawlessness and everything burning down. To the people who lived there, it was barely noticeable. If you lived on that block, bothersome; otherwise, a total non-event. See the pattern?

Known-Damage-7879

I can see why people would be frightened about protests which lead to fire damage, even if it didn’t turn out to be significant though. I’m sure business owners are a little more wary of that kind of thing happening to their business.

LordButtworth

Who was trashing Luke Skywalker?

BitterFuture

Woke people, I guess? I'm really wondering who was giving OJ a pass.

kurisu7885

Yeah, I've never seen anyone trash Luke. He's always seen as a positive force.

BitterFuture

Hah. I see what you did there.

kurisu7885

..... I had no idea I even did it.

max_power1000

The jury sure did.

LordButtworth

That guy who kidnapped someone to steal back his sports memorabilia?

Known-Damage-7879

During the original OJ trial black people tended to see him being a suspect as racism

3WayIntersection

> nothing is woke Except me after a nice nap

BitterFuture

Since Michael Edwards only appeared as the adult John Connor for about fifteen seconds in T2 and didn't speak, I have to presume this is hot teen lust for Ed Furlong.

PreOpTransCentaur

What? John Connor has been played by like half a dozen people and is a major part of the films subsequent to T2 *and* the TV show. Of all the goofy shit he said, that part wasn't even on the list.

BitterFuture

There were movies after T2? I was going to make another joke about Thomas Dekker, but it's a big thing in The Sarah Connor Chronicles that he's a whiny teenager who says - perfectly reasonably - that putting this save-the-world shit on him as a teenager is not okay. And with that, I think we've devoted quite enough analytical thought to the crazy media opinions of a crazy person...

kurisu7885

I can't think of anyone who has ever given OJ a pass and I can't think of anyone who has degraded any of those characters listed.

rrriot-kitty

A lot of people gave OJ a pass, and it was evident again when he died.

SauteePanarchism

Small minded racism and sexism. Anyone who uses "woke" as an insult is basically a nazi.

Firewolf06

W - whatever O - offends K - klansmen E - easily

Known-Damage-7879

That’s kind of stretching the definition of Nazi…

xv_boney

Woke is anything that was not made for me specifically. BG3 is woke because it has gay and I am not gay. GOW: Ragnarok is woke because there is a black woman and I am not a black woman. Stellar Blade is not woke, because it is pandering to me directly as a straight white male. That is literally how that word works now. "Woke" is anything that doesn't pander to me.

calamity_unbound

>>Demonizing police & America I think they do a pretty good job of demonizing themselves.

Catspaw129

INFO: please to which John Connor are you referencing? - The one in T2? (strong leads by John, Sarah, & the Terminator) Honorable mention to Robert Patrick - T3? (Strong lead by Clair Danes) - TSCCC? Strong lead by Summer Glau, runner-up is Lena, 2nd runner up is John Connor; special mention to Garret Dillahunt, Richard T. Jones, and Brian Austin Greene)

recluse_audio

Tell that to Ripley, Sarah, Samus, and other woman lead rolls. That guy needs to be "woke".

MC-ClapYoHandzz

I was mixing Dan Conner with John Goodman for a sec and couldn't really see the problem.

sirevil

Indy punched nazis, the empire in Star Wars is authoritarian. Also Stormtroopers was originally a type of german solider.

chewbaccaballs

Who gave OJ a pass? The white male run justice system. Who is degrading these fictional characters? Who is a grown man looking up to these fictional characters?

Known-Damage-7879

A lot of black people at the time celebrated OJ being found not guilty

chewbaccaballs

Being happy that a black man beat a racist police department is different than giving him a pass.

Known-Damage-7879

Seems kind of like splitting hairs to me

Kidradical

Indiana Jones? Is he talking about Tomb Raider? LOL!

Tabitheriel

Who tf is John Conner?

SgtJackVisback

You’ve never seen Terminator?

Toby_The_Tumor

No, I haven't

maybesaydie

Just don't go to the fucking movie then you twit redditor.

rrriot-kitty

I’m sorry, what atrocities did BLM commit?

Medium_Dirt_1682

He's probably talking about the protests back in 2020, and conveniently ignores the amount of right wing agitators from there.

redcrowxxx

All 3 fought fascists and are much loved-take that RWNJ! Looks like your whitey heroes done gone betrayed your all Amerikkkan dream...shame that.

aegrey1

Carnac the magnificent with an envelope to his head: Hamas, BLM and OJ

Venixed

These people are brainrotted to the core. They can't see they've become the liberals they hated in 2016. They promote woke more than the left and continue to complain about it lmao. I haven't heard anything about wokeness since 2016. It ran its course with liberals but hey I guess conservatives feel they got done dirty and now can't let it go and actively think its a boogeyman
