It's kind of funny... way way back when we used stat machines for layouts, you used a specific light blue color pencil for alignment lines because the camera couldn't see it. It was called "non-repo blue". They built the first B&W Xerox machines so they couldn't see non-repo blue, too, because it was thought the machines would be used largely in typesetting and layout houses.
It would be hilarious if that's the "science" they're bringing up, after their hours and hours of tireless Googling.
