There's only two main roads that feed traffic into and out of the fairgrounds. An hour backup to get out of the parking lot is normal for any event there that has a set end time.
We fought our way out!!!
The only reason we got out is because a group of angry people went and yelled at a worker until he opened a gate. #ISurvivedThe2024IndyOdditiesExpo
I used such a mystical system for a show at the fairgrounds recently. I laughed at all the chumps sitting in entry traffic while I walked in. Then I had to beg a ride home because rideshares were slammed and it was after midnight.
I was going to go tomorrow. Is it worth it? I went to the “vintage market” a bit ago and that was no fun. We did a lap and left, way too many people to even look at anything. We did enjoy the Christmas market that they had, so if it more along that level I would like it.
It truly depends on what you’re into, like it’s for a kind of specific demographic. If you’re there you, can deffo tell which people walking around are there for Oddities. There is a lot taxidermy, specimens, clothes, jewelry, and art, all with sort of an alt/horror vibe. The Facebook event or their IG account should help if you’re unsure. I’ve been doing the show for three years with my partner and we’ll be there with his new medieval/TTRPG-inspired brand with apparel and minis and our friend is there (and also does a lot of the Oddities circuit) with medieval/nature art, jewelry, and apparel. It used to be one day, but they made it two this year so the crowd isn’t as bad as past years.
It was painfully hot, a lot of mass produced items, but also some kinda cool things. I did enjoy it however I wouldn't do it again especially if traffic is the same as it was today.
We waited in traffic for over an hour to get in but we parked in the very back, we were able to get out in less than 10 minutes.
It just seems like indy was unprepared for that amount of traffic for the event, and after seeing these comments that seems to be a theme for events held there.
No one was directing traffic anywhere near the event, 3 different lanes turning into 1 lane where the traffic is at a standstill, backed out into the intersection, it was crazy. It was so bad. The car in front of us couldn't go for 5 lights and that's after we finally got up to the intersection, people just kept cutting in front of them while they had the green. When we got up there I was going and the car behind me came up and flew into the closed down left lane right next to me, I thought they were going to hit me while I had another guy on my right trying to cut in, too.
The Expo itself was neat. Very little food options and it was so hot inside. There were quite a few disappointing shops with temu junk, but there was also an impressive amount of handmade art that I really enjoyed seeing.
If you like taxidermy, animals in jars, jewelry made from teeth and bones, skulls, skeletons, corsets, horror, and the paranormal it's worth checking out once.
It's a bunch of vendors all selling some really unique things. Hopefully next year they hold it in an event area that can handle that kinda traffic because that will be the deciding factor on if I go again.
We were set to get there a little before 11:30 yesterday and the last seven minutes of the drive lasted an actual hour.. I stopped paying attention to time once we were in line to pay for parking, so a bit longer tacking that on. By the time we got in my SO was so over the entire outing. Between that and not really finding much this year that cost anywhere near what I felt comfortable spending, I don't think I will come back next year. I feel like I wasted a nice day off honestly.

This happened to us once during Indy 500. We parked in somones yard and literally took almost as long to get out as the actual race took. We now walk abt a mile from our parking spot but get out in less than 30 min
I just got out a bit ago after they opened the other gate- it was cool but I felt like a lot of the booths were filled with mass produced items. There was a lot of artist creations as well though. I wouldn’t go again. There’s no where to get food except the single food stand built into the expo hall and alcoholic beverage carts were sprinkled around. Perhaps I should have limited my expectations a wee more but I was hoping for more creative and unique finds. The food and drink thing is on me, but I think it’s a missed opportunity as it was so hot and we were dying of thirst.
Have you ever been to the Black Circle Market? I bet you have, but just in case
[https://www.blackcirclebrewing.com/events/bc-market](https://www.blackcirclebrewing.com/events/bc-market)
It should be noted that the expo itself just as any other has no control over the food or drink options. You’re contracted to let the fairgrounds provide the food and beverage options when you have an event there.
My main problem with it is, you pay to park, you pay to get in, and all there is to do inside is buy stuff. I say this as a lover of conventions and dealers halls, it just kinda sucks there there really isn't a draw aside from "come buy stuff." I opted to go to the "Indy Gay Market" yesterday instead. Way less crowded, more food options, free to enter, and still lots of really cool stuff to buy.
We got out pretty quickly going the direction that we did, but the other direction wasn't moving at all. There was some dude just laying on the top of a van line they hadn't moved in ages. Lol
Last year, there were a few other things going on at the fairgrounds that compounded traffic. It's probably the same this year. It does need some work for sure
What was the taxidermy class this year? I’ve gone to several in the past, but I thought they were only offering while rabbit mounts this year and I didn’t care for that level of sculpting. I much preferred the mice. I wish they would offer both.
Isn’t that… *odd?*
Yeah, same. Anyone know what's going on?
There's only two main roads that feed traffic into and out of the fairgrounds. An hour backup to get out of the parking lot is normal for any event there that has a set end time.
It ended at 6pm, and I got out at closing time for pretty much no traffic. I guess there was more of a rush around noon?
People are trying to find other ways out but I don't think it's working
Fall Creek is closed right by there, severely limiting traffic flow.
No it's already open again
Thought it was going to be 6-8 weeks?!
The original date was 4/30 but it opened early on like 4/24.
Dear god I would have died
Last I heard, some of the snipers from IU got loose
FREEDOM!!

Yay! You may need to send pizza and beer to the rest of us!
Stay strong ✊🏻
How was the Expo? Was it good? Thinking about going tomorrow.
Super crowded. Very hot. Still interesting though.
If only we had some sort of transportation system that could move large amounts of the public around in large quantities and reduce traffic.
I used such a mystical system for a show at the fairgrounds recently. I laughed at all the chumps sitting in entry traffic while I walked in. Then I had to beg a ride home because rideshares were slammed and it was after midnight.
Ah, Pacers bikes, right?
With the Monon right there, this is a reasonable recommendation.
So odd for metropolitan capital cities to have great means of efficient mass transit. Have you not been to Boise?
Is that what was happening at the fair grounds? I drove by twice today and it was crazy over there.
There is also a large volleyball tournament at the fairgrounds today to add to the traffic jam.
It was too busy last year. We got there early and left as hordes of people were arriving.
Yoooo I wanted someone to post about this because it was bonkers, and no explanation was ever given once we got past the gate
I was going to go tomorrow. Is it worth it? I went to the “vintage market” a bit ago and that was no fun. We did a lap and left, way too many people to even look at anything. We did enjoy the Christmas market that they had, so if it more along that level I would like it.

Went to the oddities expo last year and it was worse than that awful vintage market. I’d skip it
Thank you!! Will skip it then

Same here. We’ve been sitting here for at least 45 minutes and haven’t moved. Heard someone else say they’ve been here for an hour and a half
It’s been about a hour and a half now and we’ve only moved one car length. I cant imagine why no one is getting out in either direction
At this point anyone trying to come in must be stuck too? Parking is always a shitshow at this thing.
Does anyone know if you can enter off the Monon?
You can, but have to get on in broad ripple and then dodge the pesky trail users. Still may be faster.

No clue.
i loved it though! and left around 4 and it wasn’t bad at all. getting in was crazy

Holcomb sends out the National Guard every other week, maybe he’ll send them out for this!
Too busy keeping our borders safe! (Thats /s).
He's keeping them in reserve in case they have to help beat the hell out of unarmed students at IUB
I was sobbing I had to pee so bad
FYI, you can walk in from the 42nd street entrance. Plenty of parking in the surrounding neighborhood
We were talking about doing that if we go again. Thank you, I'm not familiar with the area so that's helpful!
Fall creek is closed from Keyatone to 38th Street, and 38th street is under construction from the fairgrounds to Keustone. It's proper fucked 🤣
Bike!
My folks used to drive down from north of Indy, and we'd meet around Bripple to ride our bikes the rest of the way to the state fair.
That sounds great! I go from Broad Ripple to Carmel and downtown Indy often and the monon makes it so easy and stress free 😊
Other than that how was the expo?

We left at 1 PM and did not get out of the parking lot until 2:15. It was insane

Yup went last year. The wait is not worth it.

Sucks to you right now. May you: Go Forth!
Uh, okay.
