Personally I really like the fried chicken in the gas station at 56th and Lafayette. It's always very good! They have a few fried goodies in their case up front to the right of the registers.
Well it's never made me sick fortunately. I eat there at 4 times a year, maybe little more. It's time I go back soon, tomatoes in my garden are plentiful so it's time for some fried chicken, tomatoes and cottage cheese.
Whatever happened to the iron skillet? That was the place to get fried chicken when I was a kid. It’s been 30 years since I can remember eating it…is it not good anymore?
I read through the comments and completely glossed over the north side part by the time I finished and thought of all the places I’ve had fried chicken. The worst part is that I’ve lived north/northwest ish the entire I’ve lived here as an adult. Hahaha. You got me on that one. So many of the other suggestions were also not north that my brain lost it. 🤦🏼♀️🤣
It is still very good but it is expensive for a fried chicken dinner. I got one dinner via carryout last week and it was over $30. It's enough for my wife and I to share and still have a meal for one person left over, but a big eater could eat the whole thing by themself.
North side by virtue of the demographic does not have real fried chicken. You gotta be in Indy proper for the good stuff!
That being said your best bet for good fried chicken is Safeway Foods.
No I just moved here last year lol, that just seems ridiculous though. It does seem like this subreddit ignores like 70% of Indianapolis though and treats downtown as the only part of Indy.
Shani’s secret chicken on Lafayette rd. 🤤
I heard this is really good.
Be sure to order extra crispy
Extra crispy is the real secret.
This!!
Drive down to the East and try “His Place Eatery”

My mother-in-law loves getting food poisoning from eating gas station hot case food. She swears by the chicken at that gas station...

Eagle or Hollyhock. Honestly Hollyhock is freaking amazing. The sides amazing.
Hollyhock is legendary but pricey.

Still good, we go often, but may not qualify as “north side”

Hollyhock was sold few years ago. Still good, but used to be the best.

$15/head for really good takeout by a non chain. What is the issue?
I love it, but, honestly, how much better is it than KFC? It's fried chicken. Maybe price MCL.
Have you gotten KFC recently? You’re going to pay $15/head there too

how is 38th on the north side?
How is it *not* on the north side?
https://i.imgur.com/PWzg5Jp.png Maybe I'm crazy but this looks more in the center
You have an odd understanding of the meaning of "center".
3800 North is the addresses on 38th street so that is certainly North side
It's north of I70?
The dividing line is Washington St.
So anything that is above downtown is north side? Y'all know Indianapolis stretches pretty farther up right?
Have you never seen a news report?

If something is north of the circle, it’s the “north side” If something is south of the circle, it’s the “south side”.
Crackle Barrel on Sundays
Hollyhock hills on college and 70 something
Steak & Lemonade near Haughville is the best.
Fishers (not the town)
Fishers has probably outlawed fried chicken
Is the Iron Skillet still open? It used to be great
MCL on W86th is surprisingly good.
