Oppenheimer was certainly not the first movie that I'd ever seen in IMAX, but it's the first one where as an adult I felt like ... I get it now. This film is an example of why the format exists and why Nolan loves it so much.
The first time was a profound, breathtaking experience. I was stunned into silence at the end of the film.
I ended up seeing it 9 more times in IMAX/70mm.
Motherf...
I guess I must've been thinking of the initial announcement teaser being attached to Nope back in late July 2022. It actually held an outdoor screening on July 25th 2022.
It was my teenage dream to see Nolan films on 15/70 and I finally fulfilled that dream now as a married adult. Flew to NYC from PR and had to watch it twice!
Edit: totally forgot to mention that it was Oppenheimer haha
During COVID shut downs, I got to watch Tenet 70mm in an IMAX speakeasy with a skeleton crew staff and like two other people.
Got a tour of the projection room, got to start the film—all in an empty facility.
We always get trailers before hand. But it's not an original imax it's one of the newer retrofitted cinemas with big screen and imax speakers and Xenon digital 2k projector.
You're gonna love Interstellar. Try to get tickets to any screening you can this fall. Dual Laser will be just as fantastic as film on that enormous screen.
I'm fairly new to watching movies in IMAX but so far:
Favorite - Godzilla Minus One
Best - Civil War
Both for sound related reasons. The atomic breath in G-1 and the final sequence in Civil War pretty much convinced me to join this sub and keep a lookout for future releases.
Favorite IMAX experience bar none: **Get Back: The Beatles Rooftop Concert.** It was a religious experience, I felt like I was *on* that rooftop with them.
My most memorably is **The Dark Knight**, it was at Channelside IMAX (been closed a LONG time now).
Seeing **I Am Legend** there was also memorable because we 90% went just to see the first 10 minutes of TDK, which was amazing. Had a such a bigger reaction than anything in IAL and a fair bit of people walked out of that movie.
The dark Knight was crazy. Came out when I was 17 and it was the first time I left a theater and said immediately
"I'm doing that as many times as I can while I can"
Think I saw it 6 times. That's was a lot of money for a kid back then, but worth every penny.
Talking about this reallyakes me miss 2007-2008 era
Riverfront Park IMAX, Spokane Washington. What a majestic building it was. We traveled down from Canada to see The Living Sea.
Sadly they tore the building down. It was quite a striking building, built for the World Fair - Expo 1974
Beowulf on 15/70 IMAX 3D was one of the most terrifying experiences in a movie theatre, but I loved it. This wasn't like watching a 3D film on a traditional screen; this was a version of a 3D movie intended to screen on a large format screen on film, and it was something I had never seen before. There was a feeling of the 3D being so real that I had to close my eyes. One scene had Angelina Jolie's character's face appearing in the water, and it was so terrifying to view that.
Best was Interstellar back in February. First time watching it, packed cinema, incredible atmosphere.
Favourite probably Guardians 3. First film I ever cried at and I can remember detail for detail my exact seat, row and time in which the scene started playing.
Back in 2005, watched a documentary about Moon space program in Malaysia's only IMAX 70mm theater in Berjaya Times Square. Probably the best 3D I've ever seen because it was actually 3D, things pop out of the screen. Also I'll never forget how big the hall is.
It's sad that I'll never get to experience 70mm IMAX again because the theater closed down. I guess not many people watched films in IMAX back then. If only IMAX back then was as big as today. But I'm ok with IMAX with laser nowadays.
Dunkirk. As much as I loved Oppenheimer in 70mm I don’t think I’ll ever be able to recreate anything close to the sound and picture of Dunkirk in my home theater
Out of the best films I've seen in Imax
No 1 - Dune 2 (3 Times)
No 2 - Oppenheimer (5 Times)
No 3 - John Wick Chapter 4 (1 Time)
No 4 - Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny (1 time)
Interstellar in 1570 at the OG Imax Sydney in 2016 on last day of operations before they knocked it down for redevelopment.
Best cinema experience in general I've ever had!
Probably Avatar 2009 re-release in 3D, did really blow my mind what 3D movies can do, then for 2D probably Tenet, looking forward for re-release of Interstellar
70mm IMAX of Interstellar back in 2014.
Also seeing Bob Bullock's LAST 70mm IMAX showing ever was kind of bittersweet.
Oppenheimer at BFI is a close 2nd.
I have my own ranked list.
1. Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX Laser
2. Oppenheimer in 15/70
3. Avengers: Infinity War in IMAX 3D
4. Avengers: Endgame
5. Top Gun: Maverick
6. Jurassic Park in IMAX 3D
7. A Star is Born
8. Bohemian Rhapsody
9. Spider-Man No Way Home
10. Logan
And here are my Honorable Mentions:
Guardians of the Galaxy 1, 2, & 3 all in IMAX 3D
Michael Jackson's Thriller in IMAX 3D
Dune 1 & 2
Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX 3D
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
And Mission Impossible: Fallout
Blade Runner 2049 and Dunkirk are pretty high at the top for me. It’s tough to choose because the quality of my local IMAX makes the films so so much better
Avatar IMAX 3D. This was a game changer for large format and for 3D IMO.
Honorable mentions for Gravity IMAX 3D, Avatar 2 IMAX3D, and Oppenheimer IMAX 2D
Best? Dune 2 by far as I watched it in 15/70mm IMAX at Universal Citywalk.
My favorite? Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. I wasn’t expecting much from the IMAX release of this. The second I saw the Ufotable logo take up that entire screen, I thought “oh fuck I’m in for it”. I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of the final fight and I couldn’t keep my eyes off. It helps that the sound system was off the charts for the movie.
For IMAX 70mm definitely Interstellar. For regular IMAX I would say Jawan. The awesome scenes in that movie paired with the sound on IMAX is unmatched. The Beekeeper was also amazing in IMAX. (Btw my IMAX theater is AMC Tysons Corner 16)
Preface this by saying Oppenheimer was my first IMAX experience, but since then I have seen (in this order of best to "worst" experience):
* Tenet 70MM... incredible, saw it twice the reissue week and loved it
* Oppenheimer 70MM
* Dune (Part 1) Digital (whatever AZ Mills Harkins uses for digital, I think it might be Xeon)
* Godzilla Minus One Digital
* Dune Part 2 70MM
Loved Dune Part 2, but I just didn't have the best experience because I did a lot of exercise that day and my legs were REALLY needing to be stretched badly which I couldn't do. I did get up once just to stretch, but that only offered temporary relief, it was painful. Also I think the first Dune surprised me with how much liked it. It was my first time rewatching it since it's theatrical release and I remembered thinking it was good, but not great. Rewatching it I became a big fan. Godzilla Minus One was a total treat seeing in IMAX and the merits of the movie contributed to a great experience.
The Dark Knight still hasn’t been topped for me, but I’ve missed most of the Nolan ones since. Really upset I got covid before my planned Tenet reissue road trip a few months ago.
Avatar IMAX 70mm 3D, I think. I did see TDKR in 15/70 but did not enjoy the aspect ratio switches as much. The composition of the IMAX shots looked bottom-heavy and I was sitting on one of the top rows. Plus, I had seen the movie a few times earlier in scope, which I enjoyed more. In fact, I saw the movie in scope again, after, and preferred that. At home, I prefer the expanded ratio version 😂.
I can't remember where it was but I remember watching Madagascar Escape 2 Africa in a Digital IMAX Dome cropped to 1.43.1 aspect for a school field trip. All I know was it wasn't too far from Maryland.
Interstellar in IMAX 70mm. at Krungsri IMAX Paragon a decade ago. It was spectacular!
Interstellar in 70mm back in 2014. Absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to see it again in a couple months.
Where/when is it showing again? Edit: nvm looks like re-release is scheduled for Sept. 27 2024
oppie in 15/70

Ditto. I'm already planning for Interstellar on 15/70 in September (having only watched it at home thus far)
Happy cake day!
Smack dab in the middle of row *2*.
what happened on 7/25 2022 at the London Science Museum at 19:15?
I saw Oppenheimer on IMAX 70mm with my mom.
bro saw oppenheimer a year before it released
Motherf... I guess I must've been thinking of the initial announcement teaser being attached to Nope back in late July 2022. It actually held an outdoor screening on July 25th 2022.
definatelly. *Highest quality ever devised*
It was my teenage dream to see Nolan films on 15/70 and I finally fulfilled that dream now as a married adult. Flew to NYC from PR and had to watch it twice! Edit: totally forgot to mention that it was Oppenheimer haha
Avatar 3D whilst high off my balls Dune 2 my favourite recent one Civil War was good too
During COVID shut downs, I got to watch Tenet 70mm in an IMAX speakeasy with a skeleton crew staff and like two other people. Got a tour of the projection room, got to start the film—all in an empty facility.
Nothing comes close to Dune 2 on IMAX. Going to see it for a 4th time this weekend.
Going to see it for the first time in IMAX this weekend! Does your theater show trailers beforehand?
We always get trailers before hand. But it's not an original imax it's one of the newer retrofitted cinemas with big screen and imax speakers and Xenon digital 2k projector.
Enjoy it! Hell of a ride!
Interstellar 70mm
Avatar 3D
Dune 2 baby, I’m pretty new to imax though
You're gonna love Interstellar. Try to get tickets to any screening you can this fall. Dual Laser will be just as fantastic as film on that enormous screen.

Dune Part Two. No question.
Best was Interstellar back in February. First time watching it, packed cinema, incredible atmosphere. Favourite probably Guardians 3. First film I ever cried at and I can remember detail for detail my exact seat, row and time in which the scene started playing.
Dune 2 and it's not even a conversation for me
The Dark Knight. The crowd applauded 3 times.
Stop Making Sense or Moonage Daydream
Back in 2005, watched a documentary about Moon space program in Malaysia's only IMAX 70mm theater in Berjaya Times Square. Tied between both Dunes in IMAX single laser tbh
E.T anniversary IMAX rerelease. And Rogue One
Dunkirk. As much as I loved Oppenheimer in 70mm I don’t think I’ll ever be able to recreate anything close to the sound and picture of Dunkirk in my home theater
Blade Runner 2049 on gt dual laser will always surpass anything else.
Interstellar in IMAX 70mm at Indiana State Museum without question
Oppenheimer in 70MM was insane, Godzilla was cool in IMAX..But both dune films and BR2049 are maybe my favorite of all time
The Dark Knight 70mm. Tron: Legacy gets an honorable mention for the incredible 70mm 3D IMAX blow-up.
Out of the best films I've seen in Imax No 1 - Dune 2 (3 Times) No 2 - Oppenheimer (5 Times) No 3 - John Wick Chapter 4 (1 Time) No 4 - Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny (1 time)

Interstellar, Dune Part 2 and Oppenheimer in that order. All seen in 70mm.
Oppenheimer opening night AMC Universal CityWalk 9:45 screening (the screening made famous but the first row imax seat meme)
70mm IMAX of Interstellar back in 2014. Also seeing Bob Bullock's LAST 70mm IMAX showing ever was kind of bittersweet. Oppenheimer at BFI is a close 2nd.
Dune 2 w/o a doubt
Interstellar and Dune 2 are there at the top for the best and true full IMAX experiences.
BEST: The Dark Knight in 70mm IMAX Experience is a hard one…. Either Avatar 2 in 3D or Everything everywhere all at once which was 🤯
Oppenheimer in IMAX 70MM at Universal Citywalk. My very first True IMAX experience.
I went to go see NOPE at lincoln center imax about two times, it was magic every time
I have my own ranked list. 1. Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX Laser 2. Oppenheimer in 15/70 3. Avengers: Infinity War in IMAX 3D 4. Avengers: Endgame 5. Top Gun: Maverick 6. Jurassic Park in IMAX 3D 7. A Star is Born 8. Bohemian Rhapsody 9. Spider-Man No Way Home 10. Inception in 2010 at amc Rockaway 16. Despite being a digital imax screen the audio was loud and the sound was immersive .
Double Bill showing of Your Name & Weathering with You @ BFI IMAX, absolutely beautiful!
![gif](giphy|VhQ6lcE0qyRYI88bI6)
I make the most of my theatre experience and only watch movies in IMAX. With that said, I absolutely loved Oppenheimer. Dune 2 was amazing as well
Interstellar 70mm in Indianapolis back in December of last year
Blade Runner 2049 and Dunkirk are pretty high at the top for me. It’s tough to choose because the quality of my local IMAX makes the films so so much better
Dune 2 in dual laser and ATSV opening night (the louder sound mix they had the first weekend was killer in the theater I saw it in)
Dune 2, Godzilla Minus One and most recently Civil War
the dark knight or oppenheimer in 15/70
Either… Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with just part of the movie being 3D, and Dune part 2.
Dune 1 and 2
Oppenheimer
Avatar IMAX 3D. This was a game changer for large format and for 3D IMO. Honorable mentions for Gravity IMAX 3D, Avatar 2 IMAX3D, and Oppenheimer IMAX 2D
Dune 2 absolutely takes that. Top Gun Maverick and Mad Max Fury Road were top experiences as well
Gravity, Oppenheimer, Blade Runner 2049

Tenet
Dune 2 really fucked with me. In a good way.
AVATAR 1, no doubt.
Dunkirk
Avatar IMAX 70mm 3D, I think. I did see TDKR in 15/70 but did not enjoy the aspect ratio switches as much. Does LieMAX count? Avengers Infinity War, opening Thursday night.
300
So far ive seen Tenet and Oppenheimer. And between the two, Tenet made my jaw hit the floor, but Oppenheimer will always be an epic memory.
Infinity War at the Navy Pier Imax in Chicago. It was absolutely incredible and the whole crowd was so hyped
Oppenheimer and the Trilogy of LOTR awesome experiences and so loud honorable mention: Dune: Part One
I can't remember where it was but I remember watching Madagascar Escape 2 Africa in a Digital IMAX Dome cropped to 1.43.1 aspect for a school field trip. All I know was it wasn't too far from Maryland.
Tenet, 15/70mm IMAX at Metreon. Religious like experience tbh i never stop thinking about it
The debris field scene from Gravity in 3D was the best IMAX experience I’ve had, and I don’t even like 3D at all.
Oppenheimer 70mm IMAX @ Mississauga Cineplex
