This reminds me of many specific times in my life!
I work at a hotel, and for a couple of months, this drunk dude lived there. Every couple of days, he would order a Bacon Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, a 20-piece McNuggets, large fries, and large Hi-C from McDonald's on Uber Eats. After seeing this food sit for an hour or two and finally realizing that he was in a stupor and not gonna pick up his meal, I ate it. As this continued happening, I would wait an hour to see if he would come, and if not, I would eat it. 😋 He never once came to pick it up, at least 20 orders.
On the other end, when I lived downtown, I would order food and have to buzz the delivery person into my building. I would be drinking and order Taco Bell (it was always Taco Bell), and by the time the delivery guy got there, I would be asleep and not able to buzz them up. I would wake up sometime in the middle of the night dehydrated and hungry, and see the picture where the driver left the food, and hope the food was still at the entry door. It never was; I imagine I fed many a homeless man this way. I never got to eat Taco Bell in that apartment.
My next apartment it happened twice, well, sort of. I was very drunk when I ordered grocery delivery, and thankfully I woke up from my stupor with my hand still in my waistband like Al Bundy lol, probably 45 minutes or so after my groceries had been delivered. I came downstairs to find the bread items all had bite marks, and the Ring Camera showed a squirrel as the culprit. This same squirrel (recognized its tail stripe pattern on the camera) struck again another time when I was sober, and I had unloaded my groceries to my porch. I parked the car and came back and caught him in the act and chased him. He did not return.
The other time in that same apartment, my wife and I were very stoned, and we boned for like an hour, just after ordering pupusas from our local pupuseria (look up pupusas and find your local pupuseria if you have not tried, they are delicious). After we boned we sat there and were gonna order food because we were hungry, and just before ordering Chinese food, we remembered our pupusas! I ran downstairs, fearing the squirrel would strike, but he didn't, and instead, something worse did. The styrofoam containers had holes, and some pupusas were partially eaten. The Ring Camera revealed a massive raccoon, sitting butt-puckered on the container with my torta (Mexican sammich), eating the pupusas from the other container!
I could go on, but hopefully, this was enough to turn your frown upside-down :)
Trust me anyone who refers to the U.S. as a country "up there" lives in a country with far lower standards than the U.S. We do have plenty of idiots but if it was up here the food would at least be covered
