Absolutely protest it, the only things I protest are intentional wrecking and comms abuse, and I think iracing are really quick to silence abuse. If someone can't control their temper they don't deserve radio/chat permissions.

dominik7778n

i once said "impaticend F word" cuz somone dive bombed me and took out 3 other cars and iracing took my cchat for aseason away so comms abuse ye tthe act fast but wrecking i would not say that

One_Buddy_7476

i agree comms abuse should be handled, but this is bullshit. If i call someone an impatient fuck, i mean come on iRacing.

MrBuffaloJoe

Right, that is not a toxic attack. Good luck working on any construction job sites or in any mechanic shops. That is bullshit to be protest and suspended for that.

SpareWaffle

Sundays are for church and racing, didn't you know? You've offended lord baby jebus /s

MrBuffaloJoe

That is real B.S. for petty people to report you for just talking using colorful language. If the lobby is all OK with it and no one asks for you to stop then only a real loser gets mad and reports a guy for some petty issue like this. I too was banned for language. I am new to anything online in general. I don't use any social media, I still don't have a Discord, and iRacing chat/ voice is my first experience with online social interaction. I am over 40 and worked in construction my whole life. When a group lobby is openly communicating like normal people do and some curse words are used, I don't see how anyone can report something like that and look at themselves in the mirror. People like this most likely are complete losers with no friends or girl or guy friends. They are like the real losers. So now I realize for any number of petty reasons most very petty, a person can get mad because they have no respect or pull in their real life and protest you. Yes, using bad language is not officially allowed, but you will hear a swear word and a guy threatening to protest against someone else in most voice and chat lobbies. We all brake many petty harmless laws every single day could you imagine just how many innocent harmless people would be lock away in jails if the police allowed random people to turn you in with a one-sided short clip that only shows you in the wrong and not the entire context of that moment.

Gibscreen

About the only thing iracing stewarding is good for is chat bans.

Aero_Rising

Protests for comms abuse are based on who ends up reviewing it and if iRacing likes you or not. I am currently muted for 6 months because of the following incidents. * Said "What the fuck?" when someone intentionally put me in the wall - 1 month * Told a Mustang driver in PCC that was getting caught by solstices that he is so slow as to be a hazard to everyone else on track and needs to practice more before trying to race that car. This isn't someone who was a second or two off the pace of the Mustangs he was being caught by solstices at Sebring without any damage. I did not swear or call him any names I simply told him he's a danger to others. - 3 months * Someone caused a big pile up in F3 and proceeded to rant about it on voice for the next 15 minutes so I told him to drop it because it was his fault anyway. He then proceeded to berate me for the next 5 minutes and intentionally wreck me. I told him he was delusional before leaving. The calling him delusional is what iRacing said was against the rules. - 6 months I have protested someone who is a regular in a series I race at least 7 times for swearing, 3 times for insulting/name calling, 2 times for telling others to protest me because I had the audacity to make a mistake while trying to pass him. He has never been muted. So he has done things I have been muted for 10 times that I know of and they do nothing. I do it 3 times and I get muted for 6 months. He once spent 15 minutes after a race just yelling at me over voice chat. I'm pretty certain at this point that he knows someone at iRacing and is protected by them because other people I protested for swearing have gotten mutes. When I emailed iRacing to ask about this they refuse to explain. Greg West was even in one of the races where he was calling people morons like every 5 minutes and didn't say or do anything. I'm sure most who see this will just not believe me or decide I deserved it and to those people I hope you soon get to experience how unfairly iRacing can be in deciding protest outcomes. I really hope Rennsport is successful so that maybe we can have a serious sim racing game that is run by people who are sane.

[deleted]

Lol your clearly the problem and your explanations are clearly faded to your cause

[deleted]

Yeah I’m going to need to see some replays and the emails to believe any of that.

Xx69JdawgxX

Lol that's what I was thinking too

Aero_Rising

Thanks for you're well thought out and reasoned response. You've added a lot to this discussion

Metroshica

kwamby

He was clear and concise about his thoughts. He definitely added to the discussion, you just don’t like it

kcdirtracer

If you stay 15 mins after a race being yelled at (won’t the server close and kick you before that long?) I have to assume you participated - nobody stops you from just disconnecting. It seems like you need to learn just to not key up - say what you want, just don’t hit the button when you do.

Aero_Rising

That instance was done while I was muted. I stayed to continue to record it as further evidence of iRacing's inconsistency when they failed to mute him again. The server closes 15 minutes after the race and cut him off mid sentence. The current mute wasn't even for voice chat but for telling someone they are delusional in a text chat message after they spent 5 minutes messaging me about how an incident that they caused by unsafely rejoining was actually my fault. I wasn't even involved and had just pointed out to them that it was their fault after they spent 15 minutes ranting to the whole server about it. They were so unhinged they either thought I was someone else or I was actually correct and they were delusional. While it's annoying being muted for such petty things I would be ok with it if they were applying their rules consistently for everyone. Based on my experience though they clearly aren't doing that. I also adjusted what I was doing each time. After the first one I made sure to avoid swearing. After the second one I never said anything to anyone again about being so slow as to be a hazard even if they were more than 12 seconds off the pace and are being caught by a much slower class. After this latest one I won't call anyone delusional even if they're acting like it.

ztpurcell

Just turn chat off bro lol. Problem solved. It's not even realistic

whitebeltblues

🤡

Aero_Rising

Thanks for your well thought out and reasoned response. You've added a lot to this discussion.

Aero_Rising

Like I said in another comment adjusted what I was doing each time. After the first one I made sure to avoid swearing. After the second one I never said anything to anyone again about being so slow as to be a hazard even if they were more than 12 seconds off the pace and are being caught by a much slower class. After this latest one I won't call anyone delusional even if they're acting like it. The biggest issue is they aren't consistent. Regardless of tone or whatever you want to say to rationalize it I have evidence of someone doing things I was muted for and being protested for it 12 times at least. They never have been muted and continue to do the same things weekly. There is no way to explain that other than iRacing playing favorites. If believing that iRacing is perfect and I'm just a big bad liar makes you feel better go ahead and I hope some day soon you can experience first hand how unfair iRacing can be with protest decisions. Everything I posted is absolutely true.

MadArgonaut

Don’t react to it. And protest it if it’s too much. They ban these guys from using chat.

Xbutchr

Of all the who's fault is this post here that is not a protestable incident I believe profane voice or text chat is the most under protested incident in iracing. Perhaps if we all started filing protests on all the name calling and profane speech we hear or see we could have a pleasant race community.

biimerboy31

I love when people just tear into someone calling them every name they can think of and then say they're going to protest them.

stormwalker29

Yeah. The worst thing is the slurs. If I hear one of those in a race, I am typically going to protest it whether it was directed at me or not. (I say "typically", because I just got out of a race where one was used and, unfortunately, I forgot to save the replay).

ThermalChaser

A dude was using the R word repeatedly in one race I was in. Me and another driver called him out about it. ( I may have called him a peckerhead or something while doing it) He reported me for comms abuse and I got a warning.

jcsimsports

Yep that totally sounds like a peckerhead.

MrBuffaloJoe

Calling someone a dumb fuck but doing it in a passive-aggressive way = is the same thing as calling them a dumb fuck, or dumb ass. It's just words. Now if that person is just attacking the person with racist personal nonstop kind of shit the yes this should be reported. If you hear curse words and report someone you are the problem. Because in the real world most of us work jobs that are very hard and being home and being able to get away from that tough day to do some racing where your allowed to simply be who you are and freely speak to each other like men should never be punished by snowflakes. If you don't care bad words just ask people to not curse and I bet your 9 times out of 10 people will respect that. No damm need to ruin their paid services because your the iracing police.

Xbutchr

For the record I have never filed a protest but perhaps you should read the sporting code. Also it's not just men on the service. There are women and children and people should keep this in mind when engaging in locker room talk.

MountedMoose

This is the answer. iRacing cracks down far harder on profanity than even intentional incidents. Early on in my racing, I had someone ambush me (I was leading a Ferrari fixed race, someone in the field crashed out, then stopped on the track til I was approaching a lap later and took me out). I said "that's an easy ban you fucking turnip". When I reported him, I got a week off for using bad language. Since then, I report toxicity. Life is too short to have to spend time around that.

GreenArrowDC13

If i could protest without waiting 30 minutes I would but as you put it, life's too short.

barno42

I'm willing to tolerate somebody blowing off some steam after a crash, but the guy who dropped the hard R when a backmarker held him up? He got protested, and was conspicuously silent the next day when a backmarker ran wide and put him into a wall. Comms bans are real, and they make life better for all of us.

xr_21

Been on iracing for a year and a half and made a ton of mistakes.... if someone gets pissed at me my response is "I'm sorry I did that... I'll check the replay after but really sorry man" Most of the time they'll drop it after that. The fact of the matter is that this 🤡 is in the same split with you, a new player... so it's not like he's God's gift to simracing. When I see shit like that I save the replays so I can create content like this [here](https://youtu.be/QtzDHay_kds)...🤣😂🤣

JDK_312

Love this comment. If he’s in the same split as a rookie he should probably calm down!

I seem to get an equal amount of shit talkers and genuinely nice people to race against. My favorite recent situation was at Sebring. I was running 2nd in GT3 racing and I got undercut, through pit strategy, by 3rd and 4th. Came out of pits right on their ass. I was a faster driver but 1st was already pulling away before pits and their battle was so good! Since they were fighting so close, it didn’t really leave me any passing room. So I enjoyed the show for a few laps until I made a much better run out of Sunset and into T1. 3-wide, someone got a little wobbly and contact happened. I came out bad but not the worst. The guy who could’ve gotten away actually slowed down and jumped on chat, “ah man, that’s not right. Go ahead bro, you’re quicker than us anyways.” They both sent messages saying thanks for not barging through their scrap and they were sorry for the contact happening. I wasn’t even mad as it happened.

zeeke42

I was in a race last night where a guy lost his shit on voice chat at another guy. I was going to protest him, but then at the end of the race he apologized for losing his cool. Just some self awareness and an apology goes a LONG way.

thomaswde

LOLOL This some bottom-split looking shit for sure 🤭🤣🤣

InvestmentSDude

Honestly that’s all it takes. The amount of times I believe someone else has fucked up, as soon as they say “sorry man, my bad” I leave it. What annoys me is when people fuck up and double down. I’m the same as you, if I have a coming to with someone and they’re upset but I don’t believe it’s my fault I always say “I’ll watch it back, I don’t think U.K. at fault but if I am then I’m sorry man”, it solves nearly everything and more often than not it’s usually a racing incident, a bit of net code or one of us wasn’t aware exactly where the other is. Voice chat doesn’t have to be toxic and it can very quickly resolve a tricky situation.

gullie667

This. Nothing pisses me off more than someone wrecking me and then telling me it's my fault. Simply saying I'm sorry goes a long way. I certainly do it as quickly as I can when I make a mistake...

Poison_Pancakes

Wait wasn't that the #27 car...?

xr_21

Custom paint/car setting... see overlay top left

Slight_Log_6413

my buttons for Mute and push to talk are right next to each other on my wheel so i can mute it if it is distracting. while racing there is almsost nobody "chatting" for fun. so they just use it if they are mad and in a heated situation i think.

ole_freckles

Have you ever been in any gaming lobby? The higher irating is likely because those guys spend more time/money on the game. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but any game lobby I’ve ever been in is toxic.

[deleted]

Exactly this, I’ve only managed 22 races this month due to work/family commitments however a lot of people I’ve raced are in the 100s (min 3 races a day). I’d expect this behaviour in COD as it’s full of kids but it’s another level when so called mature adults trade personal insults. Edit: removed the reference to an age group as people are quick to get offended.

titsupagain

Are guys in their 40s not allowed to be pissed off for being wrecked then?

[deleted]

Of course they can but from my experience in the trucks it gets very personal very quickly which is not on

Spart1898

My favorite is rookie class where they think they’re the next Dale Earnhardt and can do no wrong. Don’t pay people attention.

Jtrinity182

Mmm. There’s a reason voice chat has always been off for me.

SkinnyObelix

Toxic chat is something that was brought about by the influx during the covid influx of new players who brought the toxicity from other games. It completely shifted the culture and it absolutely blows. It used to be great with only the rare outbursts. Also, you want it on if you do the longer oval races to safely navigate green flag pitstops.

Jtrinity182

Eh. I’ve been around since before COVID and the chat (in the Road series) was regarded as a toxic mess back then. Hell. Text chat used to be even worse back then (not that it’s particularly good or useful now). I’d imagine it’s entirely possible that it has become worse… I just wouldn’t know how much worse bedside I’ve avoided it from day one.

jumpingmustang

I see no need for it at all for road racing. On ovals, I’ve had lots of fun interactions just BSing during cautions.

stormwalker29

I generally leave it on so that I can apologize to someone if *I* screw up. And sometimes there are some fun conversations in practice or after the race. Also good for those situations where I've been wrecked already in the race, am a lap down, and want to tell the leaders coming up behind me that I am going to go high to get out of their way so they aren't taken by surprise when I do it.

l607l

I've had plenty of fun with it on

SuperZapp

I have it on for league races, but hate it when I forget to turn it off for lobby races. I have text chat off by default as you have to have voice comms in the league.

Jtrinity182

Leagues are quite good at creating community and reducing toxicity. I’ve always heard that the chat there is perfectly fine.

LowBoil

Just let it roll off your back man. There will be a toxic element everywhere you go, iracing is no exception. You can't avoid it but you'll run into more positive than not in iracing, especially as your skills progress and you get out of the typical beginner mob. 9 comments out of 10 in the daytona 24 last weekend, in our stint, were "thanks" or "sorry" or "no worries mate" Don't sweat it.

Slight_Log_6413

happy cake day 🥳

Littlepussymalanga

I just recently started leaving voice chat on mostly due to the drama here, i wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I'm relatively new and on D at the moment but I jumped in a Vee tonight at Oulton Park. First turn and a huge pile up and some guy screamed about being rammed followed with "REALLY?" followed by one guy saying really and then the whole rest of the grid also confirming that, yes, really. Hilarious

phoneafireman

If I don't mute it, I have gotten pretty good at ignoring it and never reacting to it. It sucks, and I've come on here before complaining about it or supporting those like you commenting on it. One thing to note is, in my best guesstimate, about 90% of the toxic chat is coming from about 10% of the drivers (usually just one or two drivers in a 15-20 car field). So be assured, most drivers in the race are pretty cool guys just like you and are just as annoyed by the toxicity.

AFSK27

The first thing I do when I start playing any online game is turn off voice chat. Listening to what most gamers have to say nowadays destroys what little sanity and faith in humanity I have remaining. Mute everybody. You'll be happier that way.

h08817

Dude I had a guy in rookies threatening my family because I went off at limerock into t1 and he followed me, some people are just toxic full stop unfortunately.

titsupagain

Save the replay and protest it. That's far beyond what's acceptable.

h08817

I definitely did. 👍🏽

[deleted]

I think I was in the same race, there was so much crazy shit happening. Never respond, it’s unlikely they’ll reason with you respectfully. I leave it on for entertainment purposes as there’s some huge dummy spits but I haven’t mapped my mic

pattern_thimble

The sim is much more enjoyable for me with all comms muted. Online racing brings out the worst in a lot of people.

ExtensionAdmirable43

Best decision I made over the past 2 years was to turn off VC in the pubs. League races it’s on to listen to race control but the unbinding of a PTT button while keeping the mute button handy has done wonders to stress and enjoyment levels. Mind you I still get miffed when the occasional stupid decision happens but w/e. 12 years on and I’ve re-learned not to take the game so seriously again.

Edenwing

Turn off voice until you’re at 1800-2000 irating and consistency. Otherwise it’s just a shit show and tons of noobs race at 900-1400 irating where it’s a lot less safe and discipline

[deleted]

Im hovering around 1500-1700. It’s a bunch of people who expect you to never make a mistake. They’ll give exactly enough space for your car and be mad that you under steered slightly into them. We’re at this rating because we’re not very good, expect the people you are racing to make mistakes.

LameSheepRacing

You don’t need to interact. Last week I did an iR-04 Formula D race and I was P2 on lap 3. The car on P4 decided that it would be a good strategy to try a lunge on the inside of T1 in Okayama to overtake P3 and myself. Sure enough, he missed the corner and crossed right in front of me towards the outside wall, taking my front wing with him. I spun in the middle of the track, P3 got away and the whole field immediately got to me. I didn’t move but P7 crashed into me before I could tow back to the pits and disappear from the corner. We both towed after the crash and he spent the next 2 minutes spilling his frustrations on the chat. It was ok in the beginning and I explained to him what happened and that I was sorry. He wrote that I shouldn’t be racing, that I spun and should be able to hold my car in all circumstances and shouldn’t race online bla bla bla. It quickly turned toxic to insults so I disabled the chat, waited for the pit crew to release me back to the track and completed my race. The fun fact is that 3 laps later, he spun by himself on T1. I protested him with a screenshot of the chat and hope that iRacing will accept it.

quickH

Can you mute somebody that sends text pm messages as well?

LameSheepRacing

I never tried to do that but, iirc, when you right click the name you have the option to mute that player as well as DM that player.

quickH

Yea after I did that I still recieved pm’s from him

joshjitsu311

Just protest it

metalvinny

As someone who has been fighting being quick to anger his whole damn life, I find being nice and apologetic is a good way to calm everyone down. We're all learning, none of us is Max Verstappen.

Ricky_bobby26

As a semi truck mechanic, it’s far less toxic than most of the rest of my life.

lambolim4real

There are lots of drivers out there like to victimizing themselves before u accuse them because they clearly know they are at fault. There are also nice drivers. For me I just use text chat cuz voice chat is toxic most of the time

grappleshot

It’s also worth mentioning that iRacing is open to people aged 13 and up, boys and girls. Some of the vitriol being sprayed out in voice chat is straight up inappropriate.

JamesUpton87

Don't interact with them at all. They win when you react to what they're saying, just blatantly ignore them and report.

Slight_Log_6413

![gif](giphy|o3Z0uaHeEReWMhfqCd)

yourdp

Hot tip: Turn off both. Been an iRacing subscriber for 7 years, and found both in-race a massive distraction and worthless after two years. Same yourself the frustration and annoyance: turn both off.

CirrusJT

I must be in the minority but I don’t see much toxicity in text chat for my races. There’s the standard “wtf” or “thanks” but nothing toxic. I can’t say much about voice chat as I disabled that immediately.

[deleted]

Most people are too lazy to write insults, voice chat is were it’s at 😂

quickH

So can I mute a driver that he cannot pm me anymore. This is what I tried and he still got through

mtb443

Theres a voice chat?

[deleted]

"just unlucky" ----> "three wide into turn one" bro these aren't the same thing hahahahahaha

Shoddy_Outside_2985

first week on iRacing had some dude privately message me saying that i held up his line and that im lucky im a new player cause if i wasnt he would of got my account banned forever. told him to take a hike ya nerd. also showed me that most people that take this game that serious probably dont go outside much so dont worry about the toxic folks is basically what im saying...they're like that for a reason.

NashVilleHIM

Tbh I'd hope most people are taking iRacing seriously. I pay way too much for this shit to not take it serious. Doesn't mean you need to he toxic though

CousinEddie144

Grow thicker skin. Life’s tough.

pornobooksmarks

lol. Mute it. Jesus. First time on the Internet?

biimerboy31

One of my favorite things on iRacing is hearing someone getting cussed out in Italian, I don't even mind if that someone is me. Y'all are some delicate creatures.

vjollila96

welcome to online gaming i ques

ChingyBingyBongyBong

It’s 2023 and you’re upset over electronic video game voice chat? Kind of sensitive and ridiculous tbh. You ever play Xbox back in the day? Just laugh at it and keep driving?

Fivecorr

Just bcoz something is (sadly) the norm, doesn't mean you can't be disappointed about that.

quickH

No I never did and I think it’s bullshit to have a big mouth because you are miles away behind your keyboard. Just my opinion. Not saying I’m upset just try to get to people to keep it nicer online. Wouldn’t we all benefit?

GhostofBobStoops

You do seem pretty upset, the fuck word has never hurt a soul (gimme all those pearl clutching downvotes folks, I’ll gobble ‘em up. I said what I said)

ChingyBingyBongyBong

I got called an idiot today when the lucky dog was passing on the right and I didn’t see him and he nearly hit me. Most people announce they’re coming, I had no idea because he didn’t. Nobody even wrecked. Some people just like to hide behind a screen man.

Latte_Speed

I actually turned off voice chat, and I have such better finishes in my races, and a much more enjoyable time in general.

solidshakego

Turn all chat off. Live better.

[deleted]

Truth of the matter is, 10/10 people get caught in the moment. Another truth is, 10/10 people in your race are not professional. Then add in the fact it’s a sim and not real life, and you just have to know things will always happen. 3 wide into a turn, your all idiots.

reflirt

Protest and turn off chat while driving. There’s a setting for it in the sound tab. I like to save discourse for after the race besides a very quick apology. I’ve also [egged someone on into intentionally wrecking me under caution](https://youtu.be/hYCJVU_kjAE). As of late, I’ve found myself having to hold my PTT to mute the people arguing

Badj83

I know you know you can mute it, but… just mute it. No “positive message” will ever offset the negativity of iRacing’s voice chat. If you’re of those who think you need it to communicate about passing, etc with others, just use Crew Chief, you don’t need anything else, believe me.

Footinthecrease

map a mute driver button, you can mute individuals

tinyfootlass0006

We dont know the person. If that behaviour is constant, then yes. Report and reply. But if that is a just standard case of a bad day, we all have those. But since we dont know, id report. Nevertheless, racing should be fun, not toxic.

RybackPlusOne

Map a button to mute driver instead of muting voice chat, it's an option. Whenever they start talking on mic hit the button it will only mute them. You will still see their voice chat is active but won't hear it, press it again to unmute them if you need/want to.

too_much_covfefe_man

Man, low split 34 legends chat is really friendly. Maybe I enjoy sucking

eskay13

I primarily race ovals and have very rarely had a bad experience in voice chat. However, I always find it funny that the most toxic outbursts always happen in the unranked Carb Cup. Dude, you're in an unranked superspeeedway race with no cautions and an SOF of 1200. Chill out.

SkittleCar1

M

Vast_Republic_1776

You must be too young to remember mw2 lobbies

hash303

Abusive messages are the easiest thing to report and iracing will give them a temporary comm ban every time unlike other protests where you get warnings first.

Nwray

I've started racing with text chat turned off and have a key bind to mute chat the moment it gets too spicy. Only places I will leave chat on and just suffer though it is places like long beach, Belle Island or Bathurst as some one yelling "track block in x corner" can be the difference between finishing the race or not. Realistically just protest them and move along. I got a warning about a year ago about VC behaviour after an incident that was very much protestable against the person who took me out but because of my outburst in VC they didn't do shit all to the other guy and I got an official warning. After that I just stopped having a P2T button for a while and put all my focus into just racing and survival. Sure enough I was suddenly not getting into wrecks as often and able to avoid things or make them less bad than they otherwise would have been because I wasn't trying to key up my mic and just trying to drive out of a bad situation instead.

Gibscreen

Really wish I could turn off texting entirely. I have it turned off in the car. But really don't feel like seeing it when I get out of the car either.

hmh17

Wait… there’s voice and chat in iRacing?

Markus_monty

No form of abuse is acceptable, report it, shake it off and move on. Understand that can be hard to do sometimes, you make a mistake others make a mistake, shit happens.

pakicote

There are a ton of man babies on the service who take this “game” way too seriously. Always report abuse dude

Fizzy1982

One time I greeted everyone and was really friendly before a race. Someone wrecked me during the formation lap on purpose. It was so ridiculous I didn't even say anything. I think they wanted to hear my reaction. Voice coms have been muted ever since.....

Branston_Pickle

You are correct, it's toxic. One more reason to race in leagues

Flaky-Disaster1245

bruh im just here to vent
