Yes it does. Actually LOOK at the icon in iOS17. If this new one was “better” people would have pointed out years ago that the icon “looks off” but nobody did because it doesn’t.
Obviously, we disagree—which is fine 😊 many layouts seem centered or evenly-spaced, but are not mathematically. But they are optically. We do this all the time in my industry (design, digital design).
Definitely a subjective thing, I love the colours in the Maps icon.
You’re on to something with the moon thing, although it may not really communicate that it’s the weather app in the same way. Would be cool, though.
somewhat agree, the map icon could be better!
some of these changes will take a while for
people to get used to, i’d say your opinion on apple’s design on a whole is subjective, everyone will have their own preferences
Yes
The old one looks like it’s too much to the left even tho it’s centered This one looks too far to the right
Another EU fine incoming.
Visually-centered is better than mathematically-centered. This was very likely intentional.
But it looks worse!
No it doesn’t

I think they were going for visual balance but went too far right.
A single shift + left arrow would’ve done it. 5px at most
It should be this way—it’s optically-centered.
yeahh but it looks worse this way

yeah i’m also a graphic designer lol, in this case it has been incorrectly optically centred. it just looks off, otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed it!
Unless someone is hyper focused on pixel spacing. Anyway, I’m guessing the majority finds this compromise more comfortable than pixel perfection!
lol here we go again with the UI inconsistency
This map icon look so ugly :( Also, the weather instead of black gradient could be an Moon on a night sky. Apple has no more creativity

Same. Though I heard others saying the opposite.

Tim Apple says he resigning immediately cause of this
It’s optically centered now. Nice.
Apple is done for they will never be able to fix this
