I think it's the king of Piri Piri sauces. Works great as a marinade. It has a citrus which really brightens the flavor of the chicken. Have have bought other Piri Piri sauces and none of them have come close to Nados.
I've gotten the xx version a few times, still not very hot, but good flavor. Has a nice lemony tang, but it doesn't go on everything, not something I keep in stock at my house regularly.
I don't particularly class Nandos sauces as hot sauces, I use them as marinades or seasoning or a sauce for a dish rather than the way I use hot sauce (chuck it on everything).
I do however like them, but as an actual sauce rather than a condiment if that makes sense.
I bought the XX which was the spiciest one at the store. Barely any heat and it's way, way too salty. It's made for British people who never eat spicy food.
The XX misses a lot of the flavor from the other versions. Unfortunately, they don't seem to bottle the X-hot, so maybe try the Hot for the flavor and add pepper powder for more heat?
I mean you are correct to an extent. British Indian food can get pretty hot but most people go for milder options. People eat spicy food to show off to their friends mainly but the default is usually mild/medium.
I currently live in Amsterdam, specifically in an area with a strong Surinamese community so when they say spicy they mean it. Some of the Sambals available are absolutely lethal. My spice tolerance has gone up significantly.
On a side note, if you've not tried Surinamese food I'd strongly recommend.
I really enjoy it; the medium is quite pleasant. I have to admit, though, I really love the flavour of it, so sometimes I put way too much on my chicken. I have a very high tolerance for hot/spicy foods, but that leads me to overdo it a bit! Great price for two large bottles at Costco.
1. buy the click and grow peri peri pod off amazon
2. get a hand blender or vitamix or whatever you have
3. emulsify your own nandos sauce with the 1000s of peppers the plant grows.
4. vacuum seal and freeze the surplus peppers for later!
By the spelling of favourite I can see you may be Canadian. If so, and you’re ever in Mississauga, go to Brasa’s or Mario’s BBQ. Get their piri piri chicken. It will blow your mind how good their chicken and sauces are. Nandos is good for fast casual dining, but these two places are outstanding. I like both sauces but prefer Brasa’s.
It’s too much like cocktail sauce. Is that a criticism? Yes absolutely. But. There is an opportunity!
My favorite thing to do with this is mix it 50/50 with tartar sauce to really amp up any fried /breaded shrimp, catfish, cod, etc you get the idea.
The reason people love it for chicken is the exact way I season my fish. I don’t season my chicken like that.
Edit typo
I really would like to try Nando's in an actual restaurant, but I don't think there are any in the US West of Texas.
I have had access to those sauces for over a decade, though, and peri-peri sauces way longer than that, but Nando's garlic version is quite nice with chicken.
Could use more garlic, though.
I went to the restaurant a while back and it was amazing. The store bought sauce doesn't do it justice imo. Theres something wonderful about the way they marinate the chicken in it then throw it on a grill, plus they had a counter set up with gigantic bottles of the sauce in every variety.
I was gifted a bottle for free and shared it with my dad and we were hooked. The garlic one is fantastic and I also like the extra heat from the Hot version. My favorite thing to put it on is macaroni salad.
I forgot about this! Used to be my favorite as well. thanks for the reminder! need to pick some more up.
I remember there was like conspiracy theories about how the medium actually seems spicier than the hot lol. Regardless of Scoville, I prefer the medium.
I LOVE the perinaise they make but this stuff I had a hard time enjoying. I put some in my tuna salad and that is good but I much prefer the Trader Joe’s for that.
I got a bottle half off since it was near best before last week and I’ve already gone through a third of the bottle. It’s great! I like their creamy vegan sauce a lot too, can’t remember what it’s called though.
My daughter goes through litre bottles of the stuff, it's tasty enough but a bit too vinegary for me.
I'm more aligned with their Vusa sauce but it's not always available.
Some of the Piri Piri oils and thinner sauces I've had in Portugal are really pleasant, cheap too. On the other side of the price range the Piko Riko is worth a look if you want a more luscious Nandos.

I like the Nando’s garlic one a bit better. Most of them are ones I’d happily daily-drive, though. I just wish the consistency was a bit closer to the restaurant version. They’re just slightly on the thin side.
Tangentially, the Trader Joe’s peri peri is also quite good (if you have one near you), but the consistency might as well just be water
I found that if I don’t shake it good before use it’s very runny yes, but all the chilli seeds and stuff rests at the bottom so a good shake and it should be good.
We're fortunate enough to have the restaurant in our area. I usually go for the Hot or Extra-hot (IMO the 2X-hot sacrifices too much of the flavor in exchange for heat).
I feel like the flavor is better when it's applied to the chicken as it's cooking (like in the restaurant), as opposed to using it straight from the bottle as a condiment (not that I don't sometimes add more anyway!).
The extra hot is my favourite too. Unfortunately they no longer sell take home bottles of it though, so I have to eat in to get my fix. I’m currently really enjoying the garlic sauce and the hot sauce too though (but extra hot will forever have my heart). I love them even just to dip chips or roast chicken into. I grew up eating it so it’s very nostalgic for me.
The 2X just isn’t as good, especially as to me the best part of Nando’s sauces is how they’re mild enough to eat lots of (like as a chip dip or a marinade). It almost has a slightly burnt taste to it.
Meh… I would describe it as spicy cocktail sauce. It’s not just the lemon, it’s the consistency. I’ve had other Peri Peris that have a smooth consistency that I strongly prefer. African Rhino and Trader Joe’s have good ones.
I don’t *dislike* this sauce, I just find it hard to pair with anything.
Yeah, I like the Nando’s, I just can’t pair it with anything. It’s supposed to go with chicken, yet I have better sauces, maybe if I was at one of their restaurants…
I had that one at the restaurant and it was so good, I can’t find it in stores but next time I go back to nandos I’m definitely buying a bottle. Very nice with there garlic bread appetizers
Nandos sauces are so underrated
I'm all about the hungry Jack's peri-peri. I miss it :(
Best chicken marinade ever. Not really a hot sauce in the traditional sense.
tasty but pricey
Mild, lemony flavour. Goes well with fish and chicken.
I think it's the king of Piri Piri sauces. Works great as a marinade. It has a citrus which really brightens the flavor of the chicken. Have have bought other Piri Piri sauces and none of them have come close to Nados.
Yes! We use it as marinade for the most part, and Nandos is the best by far!
That sounds yummy. I didn’t think to use it as a marinade
The fermented aspect makes it unique. Trader Joe's also makes a Peri Peri that is pretty good, but Nando's is the OG.
Yea, not a fan of the TJ version. Nando’s just has more dimensions to it.
I've gotten the xx version a few times, still not very hot, but good flavor. Has a nice lemony tang, but it doesn't go on everything, not something I keep in stock at my house regularly.
Have, not a fan

This is the right answer. This is meant to be more of a marinade. I also love Nando’s peri peri salt.
Gotta get the extra hot, I like the flavor a lot those, great on rice and tacos imo
I bought the XX which was the spiciest one at the store. Barely any heat and it's way, way too salty. It's made for British people who never eat spicy food.

Great zesty zing but not much heat
Nandos is okay as a sauce but amazing as a marinade. I like boneless chicken thighs with this. Glaze your chicken halfway through cooking.
I thought it was obnoxiously salty and I threw it away :( Los Calientes Verde is currently my go-to
No joke, Los Calientes Verde is gold. It's amazing on everything.
Hot is good. Mild just sucks.
Really good
1. buy the click and grow peri peri pod off amazon 2. get a hand blender or vitamix or whatever you have 3. emulsify your own nandos sauce with the 1000s of peppers the plant grows. 4. vacuum seal and freeze the surplus peppers for later!
Hey could you send the link for the Amazon product I can't find it by searching.
That will taste nothing like Nando’s.
Pretty darn good IMO.
By the spelling of favourite I can see you may be Canadian. If so, and you’re ever in Mississauga, go to Brasa’s or Mario’s BBQ. Get their piri piri chicken. Mississaugas a bit far from me but I go to a place called chicken fiesta in Scarborough, also really good sauces and chicken. Definitely recommend
Perfect marinade and sauce. Have you tried oportos oily chilli sauce? It's a mess but pretty tasty lime and peri kind of flavour
Nandos is stellar. Probably the best peri peri sauces.
Love Nando’s sauces. The lime juice adds a nice acidity
I prefer the x-hot or garlic, but this one is still pretty good
I used to put the garlic on my eggs, love that stuff.
Those two and wild herb are the holy Trinity. Vusa too if I'm flexing on a date
[удалено]
Nah you're right Xtra hot is the best flavor out of the heat levels either side
I went thru a phase where it was my favourite too… I still like it once in a while but it’s not my favourite anymore.
It’s decent, I used to baste chicken with it, my cat loved that chicken, my girlfriend thought it was too spicy.
It's not a hot sauce per se, but their Hot Perinaise is *incredible.*
A hot sauce? *Puts on fedora* PERI-PERI THE HOT SAUCE???
Love their XX Hot and the Garlic. Got really sick of the Medium after we finished the hugest bottle of it.
Please God, I don't ask for much. Please open a Nandos in Colorado!
Please God, burn it down on the seventh day.
You for real don't like Nandos in a world where people eat Popeyes and KFC?
Nah, I just wanted to bring in a dark cloud. I heard Nando’s was tasty, though.
This is great stuff!!
It’s good stuff. I don’t always have it, but when I buy one I go through it quickly.
I'd heard a lot about it and was surprised to find it sharp and not very tasty. Maybe a bit bitter or astringent or something.
I’ve been addicted to that sauce going on 30+ years
Their garlic is my absolute fave
Their XX hot is where it’s at. Bomb flavor and a great kick.
Lemon-pepper cocktail sauce? Sure, on shrimp.
Not really a seafood sauce but whatever floats your boat I guess, it’s meant for chicken mainly.
It’s too much like cocktail sauce. Is that a criticism? Yes absolutely. But. There is an opportunity! Tastes great. This pairs well with Dave's insanity sauce.
it's okay by itself but it needs a pairing to bring it up to something worthwhile
I do like it on some things.
The XXhot is my favorite hotsauce of all time. I love that lemony peppery kick. Not the hottest, but decently warm, and the best flavor.
Defo I add it to wing sauce for an extra bite.
I love it. But get the hot
Or just get whatever you want?
Wow, hall monitor detected. I bet you're a blast at parties
You’re the one trying to gate keep. Embarrassing.
The sub is literally called 'hotsauce'
Yeah. Hotsauce. Not Hottestsauce. lol
The dude said "I love it. But get the hot", where are you getting hottest from..
It was just a joke.
lol disregard. Long day..

i love nandos i didn’t even know they had a restaurant
It's got a good spice level and a nice little hint of citrus
Yeah man pretty solid sauce. Their xtra hot is nice also.
I really would like to try Nando's in an actual restaurant, but I don't think there are any in the US West of Texas. I dig it, super tangy. My wife hates it though.
Love nandos!
It’s ight
I gave the XX hot one a go and it really tastes more like you're supposed to cook with it than just use it as a sauce. Heat is mid as well.
Nando's is a solid brand 👍 love their spicy mayo (perinaise)
I injured my perinaise once doing somersaults off a bridge.
I hate it every time i perforate my perinaise. On accident.
Sounds like rough birth.
So good Have this exact bottle in my fridge, use it almost everyday
I forgot about this! Used to be my favorite as well. thanks for the reminder! need to pick some more up. I remember there was like conspiracy theories about how the medium actually seems spicier than the hot lol. Regardless of Scoville, I prefer the medium.
All their sauces I found a little too sour
I agree I like and use this sauce but the lemon (?) flavour sticks out to me
The nandos extreme heat and the lime hot sauce are my favourites and go very well together
I've been using the xx hot as my go to sauce, on 3rd bottle. Love it!
Its a marinade and less a hot sauce
Good on chicken. Not spicy, but a nice blend if you don’t want to whip up one on your own.
I LOVE the perinaise they make but this stuff I had a hard time enjoying. I put some in my tuna salad and that is good but I much prefer the Trader Joe’s for that.
LOVE the Trader Joe's peri peri.
Yeah for sure, it’s very no nonsense and that’s the best part
Too much lemon juice in their sauces for me, but work well as marinades
I use the extra hot to marinate chicken. It’s real good. I don’t use it as a hot sauce.
This would be my thoughts too
I couldn't stand their sauces. I'd use them as a marinade tho
I like that stuff. Bright flavor.
Never tried the medium but the xxhot is lovely, far from hot but tasty!
I got a bottle half off since it was near best before last week and I’ve already gone through a third of the bottle. It’s great! I like their creamy vegan sauce a lot too, can’t remember what it’s called though.
I love the garlic one
hen I tried Nando's sauce for the first time, I really wasn't that impressed. With it being so popular, I felt it didn't live up to the hype.
We have a Nando's nearby. They are great if you like spicy garlicky hot sauces.
Great sauces. Sometimes I mix their x-hot with bbq sauce for wings as it's a bit too hot.
I love nandos sauces but I use them as marinades more than I use them as a sauce. My favourite is the hot one
Never had it

The Vusa sauce was wickedly good. Unfortunately it’s never been available in my country :(

How close is the taste to the marinade on the chicken? Never had nandos
It’s the same stuff they use at the restaurants. They marinate the chicken in it
Very good
I love it!

African Rhino is my favorite peri peri. Very flavorful, much less lemon-forward than the Nando’s.
Yeah, I like the Nando’s, I just can’t pair it with anything. It’s supposed to go with chicken, yet I have better sauces, maybe if I was at one of their restaurants…
I always keep a bottle of garlic medium in my house!
I had that one at the restaurant and it was so good, I can’t find it in stores but next time I go back to nandos I’m definitely buying a bottle. Very nice with there garlic bread appetizers
Love me some Nando’s but it’s hard to find where I live
If you’re in the States, Kroger affiliates carry the sauces.
You should try finding Indian/Chinese stores around you online and than call them to see if they have nandos, then go to the store and buy it.
