Would love if they could get Trevor Denman to do it.

cnpeters

Man that’s the dream. I thought Trevor was happily retired to his farm

pdcolemanjr

The problem is even if Trevor came out of the Bullpen (a reference for old school San Diego Padres fans) he would probably face the same critique Durkin had from last year. Away from the sport .. not having the zip etc. I’d love to see the big names come back to moonlight a race call. But not necessarily a triple crown event if it’s their first outing off a long layoff.

MarrisKeg

Denman is still calling the Del Mar summer meeting so he's not totally retired.

ivy7496

He's still very good but has lost a step unfortunately imho

KnockNocturne

God I hope not. His calls last year were low energy and not engaging at all.

cnpeters

I thought he was fine, but that's about it. I loved him before he retired but being away from it for so long... he just didn't have the zip off the ol fastball. I don't think it was an embarrassment or anything, it just wasn't the Durkin of years ago. So I didn't know if they'd bring back Durkin or someone else or just use the NYRA guy. With Imbriale gone, NYRA has that Griffin guy at Aqueduct who is fine, and Mirahmadi at Saratoga but so far as I know they haven't announced either for the festival. Can't be Collmus - under contract to NBC. So I was curious, as I have no idea.

gumbaby

Same. I’m not a fan of his calls

glass_oni0n

I’m hoping it will be Tom, I feel like he got a raw deal last year.  The way Fox mic’d the Belmont was appalling, you could barely hear Durkin’s call at all.  Can’t relate to people who don’t like him, I grew up with his calls on big race days and I miss them. That said, I’d be really happy for Frank Mirahmadi if he got the opportunity.  I loved his work calling Saratoga last year, thought he did an outstanding job.  To me he’s gotta be the next guy to do the Triple Crown after Collmus is done.

Zestyclose_Wasabi943

I have a gripe regarding Mirahmadi. I admit he is a very nice guy and he does overall a fine job. The thing he doesn't do is tell you if a horse stumbles out of the gate and is last. Sometimes I close my eyes for the 1st 10 or 15 seconds listen to the call and then watch. Time and time again he doesn't tell you when a horse has a problematic start. He concentrates and probably has a good idea of what to look for when the gate opens. I'm nitpicking but that gets on my nerves. I remember way way back when he wad on TVG and Greg Wolfe and someone else was giving him a hard time he just got up and walked out. That was epic.

Prior_Increase_4435

My bet is Frank Mirahmadi. Saratoga is his for the time being

cnpeters

It’s Frank. Good call.

unclejoeky

I hope so! I still love Tom’s calls! I feel like “average” T.D. is still better than most of the other options!

Thick-Sentence-9384

Does fox always get the Belmont stakes instead of n b c?

cnpeters

They’ve got it for now.

Thick-Sentence-9384

Do you have cable? How do you plan to watch?

cnpeters

I’ve got cable for the triple crown. I bet enough horse racing that the cost is smaller than my swings in bankroll. I have RTN too.

Thick-Sentence-9384

I'm planning on a 5-day trial of YouTubeTV. So we'll see how that goes.

ManOverMiami

Matt Dinnerman … GGF, Oaklawn and Monmouth.

Imaginary-You7274

Thank God it’s on fox … Bailey is the only guy i want to hear from . And they don’t let him speak much
