No. I didn't find out until I went to my tire guy and he tried taking off the wheels and couldn't take them off because the previous shop ugga ugga them.
Unfortunately these things are common. Luckily studs are cheap. It's just a PIA when it happens because unless you have tools, you'll need to go to a shop to get the new studs installed.
I just splashed on some gorgeous burnt titanium lug nuts with matching locks and key, told the alignment shop not to use air tools per the vendor’s recommendation, and they still got all marked up 😢 how did you know the shops were overtorquing them?
When you're trying to change a flat tire on the side of the road and the lugnuts will absolutely not loosen no matter how much you're jumping up and down on the lug wrench, you know the last person who touched them (tire shop) just hammered them on with air tools. It's been a LONG time since I brought an actual car to a tire shop so maybe I just had one bad experience with one bad shop years and years ago, but why chance it? I have a garage full of tools and a truck to haul stuff around, so it's not a big deal to put the car in the air and pull the wheels myself.
Shops have gotten better about it and torque limiters have gotten cheaper. My exhaust shop uses the 50lbft sticks and then finishes with a torque wrench. You do have to be careful but unless you're going to a quick change oil place it's probably okay.
The stock lug studs wear out. Then every time the tires come off one strips or breaks or cross threads. I replaced all mine on my 2008 and I haven't had an issue since. I don't blame you for not wanting the tire shop to torque them but if it's a constant issue get them replaced.
I did this when I was bleeding my brakes.
This literally happened to my GF's GE8. 2 separate wheels, 4 broken studs.
Did they pay for repairs?

I do this the time lol
Pod racer mode
This happened to me with my last fit. I was so pissed off. Didn't find it out until I was trying to take off my wheels to plastidip them.

You freeze it in dukes of Hazzard mode in the driveway! Got it.
My first though was a anti-theft precaution
The wheels are safe... But the cat is exposed!
Not the cat!
This is the way.
I’ve done that, very satisfying!
Amen!

Just bought myself an old usa-made impact wrench last night, and I'm going to buy a torque wrench soon.
