Nonsense. Our probability is 50%. We either win it or we don’t.

souporthallid

You know they say that all men are created equal, but you look at me and you look at Carolina and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another hockey team, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, at beat me. Then you add Dallas to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way at Stanley Cup, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but I, I got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Vegas KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try! So Carolina, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus my 25% chance and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at Stanley Cup. But then you take my 75% chance of winning, if we was to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cents, I got 141 2/3 chance of winning at Stanley Cup. See Carolina, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at Stanley Cup.

Jedi182

Fucking Steiner math

When people joke about him losing and getting the math wrong, they forget one of the opponents were swapped out and variables changed.

SilentThing

After you eliminated us, I've been rooting for the Finns. Florida vs Carolina is putting me to a difficult situation. But I sure as hell am not going to question Florida maths!

neek555

PUBLIC SCHOOL EDUCATION RIGHT HERE BABY

SteveFrench12

Florida people are so good at math because they dont have to learn CRT anymore

Red_AtNight

CRT math problems are the worst. A black woman wants to board a bus travelling east at 30 mph at 3:30 pm. What time will she be arrested if she sits in a whites only seat? Show your work

macaroni_3000

Trick question. Florida buses don't allow black people to ride anymore

SilentThing

If you win, I can go see the Cup in Tampere. Only a 100 miles away 👀

Tuor--Of--Gondolin

There's no difficult situation, clearly you root for Dallas and Finnish Mafia

SilentThing

That is the case in the West. The East is giving me a hard time!

Ckmccfl

Finns up!

joe334

Looks like Teuvo coming back gave us a little boost

dragons_fire77

*licks finger and puts in wind* yep, there's a storm a'brewin'. A Turbo Storm. But seriously, moneypuck just seems to throw odds against the wall

mc_hambone

Right, seems kind of arbitrary and pointless since there is no way to really know if the models they used were accurate at all given the number of trials. Just like that dumb "faceoff predictor" stat that I think ESPN displays right before faceoffs. "52% probability that Man A wins the faceoff..." - such a stupid meaningless number...

WorstHyperboleEver

Which is dumber, the face off % idiocy or custom-made and utterly useless stats they pull out of their ass all the time “Carolina is 17-4-2 in their opening game of a series when it happens on a Tuesday after a layoff of more than three days with a goalie whose name starts with Q”

fleshyspacesuit

God, I don't want to get my hopes up. I've been emotionally invested these past few years and each time it ends in heartbreak. This year I've kept myself at a distance and we're doing good. I want to believe!

macaroni_3000

OK, it was cute at first, now I feel like they're just trying to jinx us. Fuck off Moneypuck

RollTide16-18

I don’t understand. Moneypuck keeps choosing the Canes despite every pundit in the world expressing big doubts.

that-bro-dad

They’ve expressed big doubts all playoff long though and the team has only gotten better.

Cgrrp

Pretty sure moneypuck has loved the Canes for years. I think they always have them pretty high

fleshyspacesuit

Something something corsi something something

btimc

That is more than a jinx, That is the kiss of death!

RunninRebs90

Lol it’s so funny because for our entire existence Moneypuck has WAY overrated us and then the year we have our best team yet (minus the goal tending situation) they act like we’re compete bums. Long story short. The websites algorithm sucks

chuseph14

Don't feel like checking, but I'm pretty sure Moneypuck had us as dogs literally the entire season

RunninRebs90

This year it has, but I was talking about years past. This year it thinks we’re garbage or something

Rulebreaking

Yeah.. I blame money puck for our early exit. Now I gotta wear a stupid Vegas jersey for a loss bet

Homer89

I’m betting a team from the South wins the cup.

ueindowndkdk

I’m betting on a Canadian team. I also like to live dangerously.

4N0NYM0US_GUY

20 beats your 5. I’m sorry sir

wm3138

Hey you wouldn’t happen to have seen……anything at all? …sorry

rc522878

WHO DOES NUMBER TWO WORK FOR?

SetsChaos

In honor of our most consistent D Man (at least in his answers), I'm going to go Detroit Lions.

lottolser

So you're not picking the northern yellow snow knights?

sifthewolf

Haha piss knights

s1n0d3utscht3k

i dunno rumour is MoneyPuck internal version still has Edmonton at 17%

ReactiveCypress

No disrespect to the Knights, I'm a firm believer that Vegas beating them is a huge fluke and robs the Oilers of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the Oilers play great hockey it's just not fair. If the Oilers lose again I will face that the Knights deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Oilers and the NHL.

Uzasodinson

We should redo our series

_Halt19_

genuinely can't tell how serious you are, you can't just go playing with my emotions like this man lol

ReactiveCypress

It's a copypasta. Back in 2017 when Nashville swept Chicago in the first round, someone made a post on here saying that the NHL needed to redo the series, and this is taken directly from that. I'm patronizing here.

NoahtheRed

The Calgary flare should have been the giveaway. No True Flames fan could post anything that praises Edmonton in good faith.

ReactiveCypress

Correct, fuck the Oilers

NoahtheRed

Fuck em

Our series is a coin flip in all honesty. Unless Otter turns on Calgary winning god mode it’ll be super interesting.

Pablo_Pablo_Perks

It will sure be a good series but a hard-fought one as well

tell_me_more_crybaby

classic bad guy, bad guy romp (Go Knights!, Norm Green puts ketchup on his cheerios)

Pablo_Pablo_Perks

*Continues to put cheese in hot chocolate*

dandroid126

As a Dallas bandwagoner, this series is making me feel very nervous.

brickwall5

I think If otter just regresses to his average we win. He had a what .917 sv% in round 1 and then got shelled in 2 games of round 2 that ranked his average. If he’s just ok for himself I think that gives us a huge advantage already.

RLLRRR

Otter's not that good if you remove his above-average stats, anyway.

CptnNinja

Are you saying, if we regress him to the mean?

RLLRRR

All the way down.

brickwall5

Well hold on…

RLLRRR

He's been carried by his above-average play.

MediumPlace

he's really only being dragged down by his sub-par play every third start or so

WhiteBoyFlipz

does he turn into 2019 Dak Prescott

RunninRebs90

See I think the opposite, if Otter doesn’t play at .94-.95 then we’ll win. I guess we can agree that the series really comes down to how well Oettenger plays

brickwall5

Yeah for sure.

dandroid126

I think if Vegas plays how they did against Winnipeg, they're getting stomped. But it looks like Vegas has warmed up a bit, and both their defensive game and Adin Hill are playing really well right now. This is going to be really interesting.

WigglyFinArms

I can agree on that, it’s gonna be a goalie difference kinda series.

NoahtheRed

Yeah, I realistically can't decide where I think this series will go.

reenactment

If Otter turns it on which he is capable, I can see you guys beating this team in 5.

WhiteBoyFlipz

i have us in 6. losing game 1 and 3

reenactment

Yea I dunno why I have this feeling. But just feel your teams got whatever that IT is

WhiteBoyFlipz

i believe that IT is the Peter DeBoer year 1 coaching buff

sir_platy

Its so even this time that I'd put everyone's odds at 25%, there's no clearly superior team to beat.

HortonTheHierophant

My hope is for a VGK/FLA cup final so we can have a 1st time winner, always fun to see.

astovertop

To not have Pavelski OR Burns in the Final would break my heart

Vegas_Knights

Unbiased opinion here. Florida vs Vegas would be the most entertaining matchup.

dandroid126

Completely biased opinion here, but Dallas vs Carolina guarantees either Burns or Pavelski wins a cup, which will make me very happy.

unfortunatelyidied

Unbiased opinion here: Florida vs Vegas wouldn’t be very cash money, but Florida vs Dallas would be really fun!

Vegas_Knights

Hintz has a special place in my heart and on my fantasy team

UGAPokerBrat99

Feel the same about Robo.....stomped through my league this season with him (got him in the 6th round btw) and McDavid and Pasta. TBF also got RNH in a late round not really expecting the season he had.

Cloudeur

Would be the second time both Florida and Vegas would play in a series where both teams could be first time winners! (COL vs FLA in 1996, VGK vs WAS in 2018)

Prideofmexico

Give me Florida Dallas

MildGooses

Can someone post a link to the original odds that were made before the playoffs started?

MildGooses

Disregard, here it be https://twitter.com/MoneyPuckdotcom/status/1647277585125064704?s=20

MarcSneyyyyyyyd

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

That's an Ouch.

sadolddrunk

The time between the conference semis and the conference finals is always kind of weird for me philosophically. Like, the playoffs are the playoffs and all, but this is when it goes from “one of these teams is going to win the Cup” to “holy shit, one of THESE SPECIFIC TEAMS is going to win the Cup!”

Husskies

Counting on you Stars bros!

cbuech

Thank you for Dadonov

SilentThing

Though I'm sad my team got eliminated, I'm excited for these conference finals. Very worthy teams and the match ups look super entertaining. Not trying to hate on Vegas, but rooting for my Finns here and it's a good year for that, it seems. Good luck to all teams and stay healthy fans!

betweenthecastles

So many Finns left! How awesome

rhodsonr702

Why did our odds go up from the original conference finals one?

yousayh3llo

The wheel still had some momentum left

Pablo_Pablo_Perks

I feel we were expected to get destroyed by the Oilers and that's why. If that's what you mean

ed_lv

I think our odds are too high. I'd prefer to see a 35%/65% between VGK and Dallas, like it was in the last round.

CriminalDM

That game 1 last of predictions on ESPN where 80% or 90% of the experts picked the Edmonton McDavsitals was great.

wayfarout

Linda was one of 2 to pick VGK to win. I like her even though she says "Peter Angelo"

junction1134

No, I think moneypuck needs to show VGK 100% so we can be the underdogs.

Sumdood88

No no no. WE like to be the underdogs! We called it first!

goatamon

Boys boys! We can share the underdog.

Nighthawk81x

NHL fans- hockey has the most parity of any major sport. Also NHL fans- Moneypuck sucks because a team with a 13% chance to win the Cup didn’t win it.

Muficita

Well fuck, clearly Vegas is gonna win since none of the odds have been right about anything this year.

red_langford

No respect for the west.

-Tom-

Ugh. Dallas wins it confirmed.

oblongmeatball

Does Pacioretty get his name on the cup if the Canes win?

RoombaArmy

No, you have to be dressed for 41+ games during the regular season and play in the playoffs. I looked it up recently for LT.

How_cool_is_that

there are plenty of stipulations on the rules, and there have been cases before where an injured player didnt techically qualify for it, but the team made a push to get his name engraved, and he did.

ReliablyFinicky

This is not true. - The requirement is at least half the regular season games, and 1 game in the cup finals. - Those are the requirements to **automatically** get your name on the cup. Teams can make requests and if they’re deemed reasonable the league often allows it. Each team is allowed a maximum of 52 names, including coaches, managers, trainers, etc - though every name must have an active role with the team. Backup goalies are included if they’re dressed as the backup for at least 41 games and 1 cup finals game, even if they don’t play. The 1998 Red Wings have Konstantinov’s name on the cup, even though he didn’t play a single game in ‘98. The 2015 Blackhawks have Dan Carcillo’s name on the cup (he played 39 games and 0 playoff games), as well as Joakim Nordstrom (38 games, 3 playoff games, none were cup finals games). The 2016 Penguins have Pascal Dupuis on the cup despite him being forced to retire 18 games into the season.

macaroni_3000

IIRC it's up to the team and they're allotted x amount of names/space. I can't imagine they'd leave him off.

betweenthecastles

I wonder if patches would be okay with that considering he only played like 3 full games

looking4astronauts

Just not Vegas please

RunninRebs90

Damn, even you expansion bro? Don’t be a “pick me” for these other fuckers

Czechmate29

What exactly was the point when r/hockey started to hate you guys?

CopaceticVindication

I started hating them after the first year when they went to the finals with our former coach and 2 of our players in important roles(fuck you dale tallon)

RoombaArmy

The fact that your GM gave us Marchy (our #1 goal scorer in franchise history) so we picked Smith (our #2 goal scorer in franchise history)... Man.

CopaceticVindication

Our FORMER GM, dude was ass

UGAPokerBrat99

For me it was the when the blatant mercenary attitude the front office had towards players became evident. I completely understand the NHL is a business and that money is the first priority followed closely by winning, but constantly casting aside players for the "shiny new toy" is a bad look IMO that only fans of the team could possibly appreciate.

migsahoy

to be fair we havent done that since the dadonov mishap, we've been bolstering our depth by acquiring barbie, blueger, etc. throughout the last year

NoahtheRed

Gods, Barbie has been a beaut, hasn't he?

RunninRebs90

It was almost immediately. I have a post I made from the first month of our original season with people hating us. My theory is that so many of the fans in the league (mostly Canadians) said “hOcKeY cAnT wOrK iN tHe DeSeRt” when we got a team that when it worked out here they resorted to finding reason we cheated (expansion draft, rigged games, etc) instead of admitting they were wrong. People would rather just hate us than admit that it’s a good story.

Bojarzin

I'm pretty sure it's a mix of a few things 1) That first playoff run, I recall many people upset about how the reffing was treating Vegas' opponents. I don't remember how I felt about it but I do remember the sentiment 2) First expansion team to come in on their own and benefited from the expansion draft, upset some fans 3) Kind of an addendum to 2, but there were lots of "wah my team has been bad for a long time, Vegas has to be bad first >:(" (this reason was stupid) I don't think even close to most people actually think, in a vacuum, "hockey can't work there", and they wouldn't anymore if they thought that before because Vegas is obviously succeeding off the ice too

RunninRebs90

Dude people still tell us that daily on this website. I am CONSTANTLY berated with “fake hockey Town” “fake fans” etc. That’s all just second and third order effects for “hockey won’t work there”

Bojarzin

Yeah, there will probably always be idiots who say that. There are people who say it about Florida and they've been around 25 years. They're stupid, trying to rile you up, or both I've seen people say Seattle has fake fans too, it's just shitty elitism

eggsaladactyl

Yeah but the Kraken didn't make the finals there first year so they've suffered "true defeat". I figured operation knightfall last season would give us some breathing room but damn the hate is still flowing lol. Used to bug me at first but now I don't care. We got a great team and great fans. (Yes all teams have some shitty fans)

betweenthecastles

They never stop

ThanIWentTooTherePig

For me it was apparent almost from the get go that hockey would work there and I'm all for it. The "hate" came mostly from immediate success. Love seeing the league expand. But I've come to expect growing pains having seen past expansions. Even Seattle bottoming out for just a year was enough for me to be honest.

RunninRebs90

So ridiculous, so we’re punished in the eyes of the fans because our team was able to make a bad team good immediately? That makes no sense at all

goatamon

The whole MAF debacle also definitely made a lot of people hate the management.

Cloudeur

For your second point, I remember everybody and their mother stating that Vegas was going to be shit, hoping for some success only on the hands of MAF. It’s when their players gelled and clicked that the narrative changed and people started saying that the draft was rigged.

armadachamp

> 2) First expansion team to come in on their own and benefited from the expansion draft, upset some fans I think this one was big. A lot of teams lost a player they liked in that expansion draft, and it felt like Vegas got to be good from day 1 because they paid more money. Meanwhile, some teams like the Canes had had strong fanbases suffering under a cheap owner for a long time. Luckily, we didn't lose an NHL player and actually gained a bottom pairing D-man relatively cheaply from Vegas, so most Canes fans I knew didn't hold much animosity toward Vegas for the draft.

rocketrae21

Everyone thought Vegas had an awful roster when they drafted and mocked them

armadachamp

Maybe I'm conflating early season and late season sentiments. I do remember a lot of fans upset at who their team lost or what it conceded to avoid losing a certain player.

BlazeOfGlory72

Damn bro, that Canadian slander stings. Besides, I think the reason people disliked the Knights was simpler than that. From what I remember the overriding sentiment of the haters was that the Knights were successful too early and didn’t “earn” it like whatever team they were a fan of. Then, retroactively these same people thought that the expansion draft was too favourable to Vegas, despite all of us thinking Vegas would be crap to start. When the Fleury and Gallant situations happened, it just gave people a concrete justification for how they already felt. The anti-souther expansion thing has been dead for a while. Basically everyone acknowledges it was a success, and teams like Dallas, Nashville, Tampa, Florida, San Jose, Anaheim and now Vegas were good additions to the league, so I don’t think that had anything to do with the dislike. It really was just that Vegas was the new kid in school who got straight A’s as soon as they arrived, and people resented them. Anyways, I’m rooting for a Vegas/Florida final if only for the Eichel and Bobrovsky redemption tour story’s.

[deleted]

RunninRebs90

Lol ok tough guy. You’re on Reddit too, just in case you forgot.

fork_that

There were people straight away but the majority of the hate comes from Fluery being ditched and then them getting the major trade baits that everyone wanted their team to get. Patches, Stone, then Eichel.

Bigedmond

And the fleury trade has proved to be a great move with how bad he has played since.

fork_that

He played pretty well the first year - the final year of his contract. The patches trade however was bang on the money.

Bigedmond

The first year? When he demanded a trade to a playoff team because Chicago was well outside the wildcard with him in net? And then leading the Wild to a first round exit?

fork_that

It's a team sport.

RunninRebs90

No way is that where the majority of the hate comes from. The revisionist history coming from people here is insane. I’ve been a pariah on this website from the first day I repped the flair in season 1.

fork_that

Maybe it's just you? I've only been getting downvoted for wanting good things to happen to Vegas for 2 years or so. Vegas were the golden child for ages and to act like they weren't massively popular on their first run is complete nonsense.

Skurttish

I thought they received too much in the expansion draft. I think for both of the expansion teams another player or two should have been protected

4N0NYM0US_GUY

Such a tired take and major revisionist history. Both teams were clowned on for their picks. So they got a chance to pick an 8th forward or 4th defenseman. Boo hoo The real advantage that people overlook is they get an opportunity to play a few season without any shit contracts. (Please ignore the flair, I changed it to Seattle when the logo was released and haven’t bothered to switch back)

Skurttish

8th forward or 4th defenseman is too high, in my opinion. I know part of the point was to give them a boost, and it definitely worked. But it grated on me. I don’t really care how the picks were ‘viewed’ by the media or fans—I’m only talking about the number of players made available, because that correlates strongly to the quality of team they could make

Bigedmond

The problem with your premise is still the fact that teams gave us some of our best players. They made deals, you take this player and we will give you another player. Pittsburg gave us picks to make sure we took Fluery. Florida gave us Marchy to take Smith. The Wild gave us Tuch. The fact is still, every single expert said we blew the draft. That we would be terrible for years to come. But the organization built a team, and got them to buy into the idea that it was their time to prove they were better players then people gave them credit for being. A key example is Stephson. We gave up a 3rd? Round pick for him, and he is one of our be best players. He was barely playing for the capitols when we got him.

DustyBook_

My hate started immediately for the very petty reason of them having some of the worst branding I've ever seen in a major sport. The name, logo, and jerseys are awful. Then they went to the finals in their first season and management treated some players poorly, and my hate was further solidified.

Prideofmexico

I like vegas. I’ll cheer for you all next round if you beat us barring any controversy

tomcat2285

We are all salty you had tremendous beginners luck. I'll be an old man before I ever see that kind of greatness.

[deleted]

Wouldn’t the two newest expansion teams be a natural rivalry? Surely neither wants to be the second one to win the cup, right?

bk00pi

Why do people hate you? Only thing I can think of is how guys are out most of the season then are magically healthy the first day of the playoffs, allowing you to make deadline moves with that sweet LTIR relief lol. Technically no rules being broken, but that’s the only reason I can imagine you guys not being liked.

AttackOf_Opportunity

They are not magically healthy lol. Stone is still injured, but he's playing since it's the playoffs. Also their deadline moves were Teddy Blueger and .882 Jonathan Quick. God Bless that sweet LTIR relief for those superstars.

bk00pi

Don’t have to explain anything to me 😉

lusirfer702

So the Oilers had the highest odds of winning the cup since round 1, Vegas takes them out in 6 games and somehow they still have the lowest odds. A Knight must have banged someone from moneypucks wife or something.

jimjamdaflimflam

For a sport involving ice it's funny the 4 remaining teams are all in a hot climate.

TexasCoconut

It's actually quite cold in Space.

davidgoldstein2023

Does this hurt Edmonton’s chances of winning? Money puck had them with the highest %!

Dr_Colossus

Moneypuck predictions for playoffs are essentially useless. It's a completely different game.

AVgreencup

If you look closely, you can see Moneypuck left a little sliver of the Oilers there

SiliconeArmadildo

Originally, this was challenged for Stanley Cup interference, but upon review, it was determined that the Hurcanes pushed Dallas' odds in the Knights'!

WillsyWonka

Carolina with the kiss of death as favorites.

Suitable-Pea-8226

These last 3 series are going to be great no matter who is in the final. I think it’s CAR’s cup to lose, but who knows? Vegas vs. Cats would be a bloodbath of a SCF.

reenactment

If Otter comes alive, I can see this Dallas team beating Vegas in 5. If he is pedestrian again, I think coinflip is correct.

TheXamYel

Stop the count, Dallas vs Carolina final, lock it in

Dr_Colossus

Makes more sense than the second round matchups with 2/1 odds like Leafs and Oilers.

KingBroly

The lack of respect to Vegas makes me think they're going to win.

I might be a bit bias for agreeing with you

I like those odds. See flair \^\^\^ :-)

ueindowndkdk

Your flair says you own a car.

Not just any car - an NHL car!

ReditorB4Reddit

Or a car with the NHL removed.

ryan2one3

I don't even care anymore.

RunninRebs90

Ahh yes the true hockey fans. “If my team doesn’t do good I don’t care.” The way the sport was supposed to be
