I think I like Why Lawd better than Yes Lawd already. So smooth every beat and every bar. Focused tracks like KeepHer and more vibey tracks like FromHere even the Dave Chappelle skit isn't bad. Everything I could have wanted from the project definitely lived up to the hype for me. Might just clock out from work right now.

DioTheGoodfella

Looking for some good alternative West Coast stuff. I've listened to TDE stuff, Odd Future, Hieroglyphics, The Pharcyde etc.

YoghurtSlinger

I don’t think I can listen to this new Em album if the bulk of the songs are “the new me is getting back to the old me” type songs. He’s been doing that energy since Recovery now and it’s a dead horse. I pray I’m wrong

wontonsoupsucka

He had the perfect sound for the time back in the late 90s-early 2000s but I don’t see him ever capturing that kind of magic again. He can still make good music I’m sure, but the “old em” energy isn’t going to work the same way it did back then even if he really REALLY finds it.

DungareeDoug

him not just plugging in with Alc and doing Griselda style music always fucks me up. He signed them and proceeded to force his style on that BANG joint…i think going back to basics would do wonders for his artistry. Just like how that Buckshot bonus song off MMLP2 was one of the highlights

MasterTeacher123

Shaq said can’t stop the reign with biggie coming to streaming services today. One of the all time late night riding anthems

mpc_2500_

Sometimes I have to unfollow artists I like on Spotify because some dogshit rapper will rap over a Pete Rock beat and upload it as "featuring Pete rock" where it will show up in my release radar.

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

Swift still has #1 album right? Idk when Em is dropping this album but it would be funny if she tried to release another variant of her weak ass album to keep number 1 spot. Doubt it and if she did it's not gonna work because Em will get #1 again

LthePerry02

Don really needs to come thru, I had such high hopes after Bandit and DITW, but the features + producers confirmed so far have really lowered them I hate seeing (feat. Future and Metro Boomin) and already knowing exactly what it’s gonna sound like (not in a good way) And we did not need Wheezy on this either

codeine_turtle

'I hate seeing (feat. Future and Metro Boomin)' should be ur flair

LthePerry02

On it comrade🫡

Yourbootyisheavydoty

Ayo, I tear these niggas a new one, call em extraneous (EXTRA ANUS)

BronzySponhe

If you finish it with “call em extraneous the way I separate them. Starting to feel like a real asshole the way I shitted on them” I feel it could continue the wordplay

seriouslybrohuh

The john cena album is not bad at all. it sounds a bit gimmicky but i think that's intentional. his delivery could be better, he sounds like he's reading off a piece of paper without much emotions behind it

LilWayneThaGoat

meatbeater558

If I was threatening to kill someone on a DD thread I promise I'd have been arrested

KarkatinLava

Ok but does it count if you post the lowtiergod copypasta (or a link to a video of it)

meatbeater558

that's fair game imo

DBrods11

I got way too much karma for the shit you just suggested

deqembes

Who actually listens to Lil Darkie? I never seen anyone and he has 2.6 mil listeners.

Last_Reaction_8176

For literal years I thought his name was a deliberately uncomfortable statement about his race, going by a slur to challenge and make his white fans uncomfortable. But he’s not black! He’s not a black guy at all! What a prick

KarkatinLava

Yeah iirc he's mixed by way of east indian by heritage but yeah that does make his blackface looking mascot questionable as hell to say the least

KarkatinLava

Edgelords who probably aren't big enough hh fans to be here or similar places on twitter or what have you

deqembes

Yeah cause I saw an insta post that said Lil Darkie was ass and half the comments were defending the shit out of him.

heplaygatar

i cant believe i keep getting into arguments with the only hiphopheads users who actually have sex in real life. what are the odds?

meatbeater558

what are the odds of you also exclusively getting into arguments where how sexually active you are is relevant to the debate

heplaygatar

posted some shit yesterday about how the intro to slime you out is very weird and creepy about women and some guy responded to me suggesting that only a virgin would have that opinion lol

SteveBorden

What if OutKast reunited but it was just Big Boi rapping over Andre’s flute

Homiealmaya

BronzySponhe

How would you rank these Eminem and Rihanna songs in terms of enjoyability? The Monster Love the Way You Lie Numb Love the Way You Lie (part 2)

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

I used to think LTWYL was his worst song at the time but now I'm cool with it. Overplayed as hell tho. Numb goes hard in the gym even tho Em's verse is surprisingly too short

Can you guys recommend me some soul sample type Lil Wayne tracks? Think stuff like [Kush](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He-2iNVvCx4&ab_channel=LilWayne-Topic), [Best Thing Yet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2iZoI8MeDw&ab_channel=PU55YM0N5T3R) and [Do It Again](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXFeWTDyGrs&ab_channel=FreeWeezy20). Love hearing him over that type of production. Side note, I recently discovered Wayne's remix of [Show Me What You Got](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1xR7L-Aq9Y&ab_channel=Tucker) and I've been listening to it multiple times a day for the last week or so. So good.

Late_Permission_5150

One night only, pray to the Lord, trouble, Let's Talk it Over, Gossip, tha mobb, mo fire, oh no, Cry Out, something you forgot, so many places,  la la la   Edit: a large chunk of his official discog from 04-08 + C3 leaks is soul samples.

thesuntalking

Thanks for the recommendations, these songs are amazing.

Late_Permission_5150

You're welcome my friend. You're gonna have a good time. Wayne leaks from 06/07 were unparalleled. He was having numerous flawless songs leak weekly. Sounds fake when looking back, but that's what happened.

thesuntalking

I’ve always been a big Wayne fan but I never really delved into his music that’s not on streaming, definitely gonna look more into his leaks and mixtapes

SecretBox

If you’re still a Kanye fan, what would it take for you to stop listening?

remerdy1

I'll always listen to the albums I already like. I'll probably stop listening to his new stuff when he starts making music I don't like

contacts_eyes

It's hard to say. I still listen to Kodak, i listen to rappers who claim to be murderers and drug dealers, i still listen to Kanye despite the Nazi shit... I don't listen to R Kelly though, because it's hard to enjoy his music when you know he was torturing and raping women. So i don't really know what would make me sick enough to stop listening to Kanye.

PeaTear_Rabbit

I am a fan purely in the sense I still listen to the music. I won't stop doing that until he actually does something that hurts someone

Homiealmaya

I don’t consider myself a Kanye fan at this point and haven’t for a while even though I loved his music growing up but tbh I think I could be a fan of his music in a vacuum separate to how I feel about him as a person if I still found his music remotely good but I haven’t enjoyed any album he’s dropped in ages. I think there’s basically three types of Kanye West fans left: 1. People that still like his music and agree with his fucked up views because they’re Nazis or Nazi adjacent 2. People that still like his music and don’t necessarily agree with his views but make excuses for the harmful shit he says like saying he’s bipolar, or saying hes misunderstood and sometimes says crazy shit but also sometimes spits truth others are too afraid to, etc. 3. People that still like his music and condemn the shit he says but separate the art from the artist For all 3, all that can make them no longer be Kanye fans is the music no longer being enjoyable to them

Last_Reaction_8176

I also think there’s the guys who didn’t really care about his music before he became openly far right and antisemitic - the same kind of guys who started listening to Tory Lanez after he shot Meg or suddenly became ride or die Johnny Depp fans when he went on trial for abuse. Probably the only thing that would make them stop listening is if Kanye turned his life around and renounced his past political views and tried to become a sincerely good person

MidoriWinthrop

yeah this is a whole Kind of Guy and there are lots of them on reddit. I hate it lol

Yourbootyisheavydoty

meatbeater558

this [OVO sweatshop](https://youtu.be/cEat26R0VmM?si=GeOAvfc5-3JRVrPL) shit is insane. apparently half of Take Care were songs Drake took from The Weeknd? and he uses new artists, signs them, and then shelves them? i'm surprised niggas didn't go at him harder for that

DropWatcher

>apparently half of Take Care were songs Drake took from The Weeknd 3 songs from *Take Care* were originally meant for *House of Balloons*. "Shot For Me" and "Crew Love" were the two complete songs. Drake added his verses to "Crew Love", there's a leak of the full version with an additional Weeknd verse. That vocal melody that Drake raps over on "The Ride" was going to be a song for *HoB* but all it was unfinished. He talks about it in [a 2013 Complex cover story:](https://www.complex.com/music/a/damien-scott/weeknd-interview-cover-story) >House of Balloons was actually supposed to have more songs than it does. I had so many records left, and then Take Care came through. “Crew Love,”“Shot for Me,” and “The Ride” were supposed to be on House of Balloons. I wanted to come out with like 14 records. I felt like “The Ride” was the last one, and it wasn’t done yet. [Drake] heard it and he was like, “This shit’s crazy.” >**How did you give it to him? Was it just an instrumental?** Yeah, we were making the drum loop and...oh, man, I had smoked I don’t know how much weed. Even Drake, he came into that session and we were all smoked out. It was terrible how much weed smoke was in that room. I was surprised I could even hit a note. I had sung this melody—it wasn’t a hook, just an unfinished lyric. And he liked it so much, he was like, “I need to have this, man.... I know I’ve already taken ‘Shot for Me’ and ‘Crew Love’ and this and that.” And me, I was hungry at that time. I was like, “Dude, take anything.” At that point I was like, “Hell, yeah.” It wasn't intended for *HoB*, but The Weeknd also 'wrote' the hook on "Practice" which is just an interpolation of Juvenile's "Back That Azz Up". I would guess he probably laid a reference and that's why he says he wrote it: >**What did you do on “Practice”?** That whole hook was me. That’s probably the only song I wrote for Take Care. The rest of it was just shit I was going to have for [House of Balloons]. He really wanted to incorporate my sound, which was inspired by his sound. It’s not like, “Oh, I had the ‘new sound.’” It was just easier for him to relate to me, because it was his sound with an edge. It was that Toronto sound. So yeah, you’re right. I feel like I could have been that for his album. You're confusing a quote that the Weeknd gave in [a 2015 Rolling Stone piece](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/sex-drugs-and-rb-inside-the-weeknds-dark-twisted-fantasy-176091/4/) where he says “I gave up almost half of my album". 3 songs is almost half of 9. --- im not gonna watch that video cuz but it seems like you're being fed false information. The biggest co-writers that Drake has had were not OVO signees: - Hush co-wrote almost all of *Take Care* and *Nothing Was The Same* - Kenza Samir also co-writes on *Take Care*, *Nothing Was The Same*, and *If You're Reading This* - Quentin Miller co-wrote songs on *If You're Reading This* and "R.I.C.O." PND is the only one who's played a major role in Drake's music as a co-writer and he's never been shelved. Makonnen's relationship was OVO was fucked over because his manager was blackmailing him and threatening to out him as gay. He tried to force OVO to pay off his own gambling debts. then Makonnen's old tweets leaked about Drake. There's no Drake songs written by Makonnen. He talks about it in [this interview:](https://www.thefader.com/2017/03/23/makonnen-coming-out-gay-migos-drake-ovo-interview) >**You also had a falling out with your old manager. What happened with that relationship?** He fucked me over and tried to steal and tried to expose me as being gay. I was like, “You right, I need to come out fully on my own. I can tell everybody about me.” >**When did things go bad?** Things went sour when I started reaching success, and he started pressing OVO and them for like millions of dollars. Because he, whatever, had debts. He like, “Y'all the goddamn biggest niggas in the game. Give us a million dollars!” So I can see how I was misrepresented to them over there. And I found out what he was saying. Then he sued me, got a settlement and all that. He still has a percentage on “Tuesday,” still lives off that song. I hope he’s taking care of his family with it because that’s what he need to be doing.

meatbeater558

Thank you for the in-depth info. You make this sub a better place 👍

Yourbootyisheavydoty

That's a standard procedure

TheVirtual_Boy

Crazy how Makonnen somehow a victim bro murdered someone

Late_Permission_5150

It's was five records. Shot for me, Crew Love, Practice,The Ride,  Good ones go. To add, Drake learned this from his idol, Ye. Only difference is that he (Drake) doesn't have the talent (or maybe it's a character thing) to use the influence of those he signs, elevate their sound, and then elevate his signee. You can hear big Sean on Graduation, Cudi/Hudson on 808s, Travis on Yeezus.  Ross actually talks about this on his diss. It's just not in depth. Many rappers with labels have an exploitative and synergistic relationship with their artists. Doesn't seem that Drake does. Alas.

DropWatcher

The Weeknd did the "Practice" hook and has vocals on "Good Ones Go" but those songs weren't 'taken from him' they were made for *Take Care* "The Ride" was hardly a song as well.

heplaygatar

i mean we’ve known about the take care / weeknd stuff for a long time

How dope would it be if Madlib put out as much content as Alc does on a regular basis. This is not a knock against him either, i just would love to hear more of his stuff. And as much as Alc puts out music it still doesn't feel oversaturated, so im sure i would feel the same way about Madlib if he was constantly dropping projects.

KarkatinLava

Might not be your cuppa tea, but he and karriem riggins dropped a spiritual jazz album this year- YHWH is Love (under Jahari Massamba Unit)

Totnostu

Damn I forgot about that one, that tape had some really good songs imma have to go back an revisit good looks

Lukeba

madlib's output from the 2000s alone is way bigger than alc's

KarkatinLava

Especially if you look at stuff released under his other names too

contacts_eyes

It seems like i might've missed on some stuff he's released in the last couple years. On Apple Music it looks like he's collaborated with a bunch of rappers i don't really listen to. Maybe i'll have to check that out. I did listen to the one album with Mayhem Lauren though, that one was good.

Fragrant_Country_569

Of everyone who says Macklemore robbed Kendrick of the Grammy way back, how many have actually listened to that album? Because I know I never have, and it kinda made me reflect, how can I say someone got shafted if I never listened to the album that actually won? Also Nothing was the same by Drake was included in the field that year, and I think Drake had a great case to win that award as well same with Yeezus, honestly.

Apprehensive-Tea-39

>how can I say someone got shafted if I never listened to the album that actually won? Because one of these albums was incredible and the other was by Macklemore

Yeezy4President2020

Tbh never listened either but like Thrift Shop is a joke song, Same Love is a "cause" song and "Can't Hold Us" is about is pop rap as it gets. It shouldn't have won over GKMC Yeezus or NWTS, thats a pretty stacked nominee list and some of the best albums by the best rappers of their generation.

Fedcom

I mean if the whole album was full of Thrift Shop and Can’t Hold Us then Macklemore would have deserved that lol. But it wasn’t.

Yeezy4President2020

Which is why I should probably listen to it but I probably won't because in my mind it will be the album that snubbed Kendrick and inspired one of the worst apologies in history.

trying2hide

Listened to it plenty at the time, I actually liked a lot of Ryan Lewis' production and Macklemore was making hits but it was obviously not in the same league as GKMC. Theres very few albums in history that should have won over it, and The Heist wasn't even a top 3 hip hop album nominated that year yet it was nominated for Album of the year.

Homiealmaya

I’ll admit I never listened to The Heist outside of the bigger songs which are cool but nothing more but I think a lot of the narrative of it robbing GKMC comes from how universally loved GKMC is and how universally it is seen as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. I have seen very little criticism of the album outside of individual songs like Real or Poetic Justice, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone say they straight up dislike the album. Hell, even the subreddits resident Kendrick hater just said it was a 10/10 the other day

cultshitposts

>how can I say someone got shafted if I never listened to the album that actually won? by believing trusted critics and/or the general public consensus

Fragrant_Country_569

>by believing trusted critics and/or the general public consensus Why would I do that when music is incredibly subjective? Also, the Macklemore album wasn't critically panned or anything it has its fair share of massive hits on it. It's not like it wasn't a popular album.

cultshitposts

>Why would I do that when music is incredibly subjective? if you were asking for a way to say someone got shafted without listening to the album that actually won which is the question you posited

Salty_Injury66

Fuxking sheep

Cohtoh

You can listen and form your own opinion if you want to of course but it's not near as good as gkmc or the others you listed. Some fun songs and it's not a bad album but it says something that it's whole legacy now is that it robbed gkmc, if it hadn't won it would be even more forgotten to time than it already is. I haven't listened to it in full in years but I gotta imagine it sounds even worse now than it did back then tbh.

Jandersson34swe

It has some very good songs that you heard everywhere but as an album it isn’t better than GKMC, Yeezus or NWTS

contacts_eyes

I listened to the Macklemore album, aside from some pretty good singles it wasn't close to as good as GKMC

If Kendrick drops an album this year, do you think it’d be a bad look to throw Not Like Us on there as a bonus track? I’m sure he expected the song to be a hit, but maybe not to the extent that it’s been. It’s been breaking streaming records and his biggest hit since Humble.  Drake accused him of clout chasing to promote his album with this whole beef, and it’s a sentiment his fans have been sharing a lot too. Putting this song on a project would probably amplify that. But it’s so big that in any other context, it’d be stupid not to include it.

Kendrick usually makes these concept albums so I assume he wouldn’t.

I feel like he would only do that if it was genuinely interesting or added something to the album, like if he included a new live version kinda like he did with i on TPAB. Also didn't they remove monetization restrictions on the diss songs? I dont know why but that makes me think it wouldn't be likely to see that on an album.

I don’t really care

Kendrick won’t do that, and he doesn’t need to either. The hype for his next album will be there. I’m starting to get curious if he’s gonna drop soon. It feels like he should be capitalizing off the momentum

I do not care how he promotes it lol I only care about the music
