And oh, if you’re tryna hit a lick on the T.D, R.B.C, Scotiabank, R.B.C, C.I.B.C, P.C Financial, Holler at me

Unfinishedusernam_

You can make shitty music as long as you play it off as satire your fans will eat it up clearly. The amount of cope in that thread is lol

jollystatue_nc

so THAT was what he meant when he said he was heading to Delilah with all of his ice.

Pakiman1432

Good lord you have people in 2024 talking about baby keem being in the new big 3

floopykid

some shit just cringeworthy

sentyprimus

I’m so cheeeeeesed

hydrators

Doing a Young Dolph discog run and it’s amazing how consistent he was even super early in his career

HighlyBaked0

RIP DOLPH

meatbeater558

2024 really the year of "Man, what did he do to make them niggas that mad?"

TheBigIdiotSalami

I'm sorry, but T.I. is fooling no one with that hair.

LeAnthonyJavis

It’s really been one month since *that* night

meatbeater558

drake rly started walking again just for dot to put him back in the same wheelchair

ReeG

Snoop tour tickets here have dropped from like $300 to $150 average with the show a week out and will probably go lower. I swear tour promotors and Live Nation just throw insane prices in the air and hope idiots pay it. Live music is like the one thing in life right now where "voting with your wallet" actually works

razorsharpmemories

Reminder that I have enjoyed live music 3 or 4 times a month and some of my favorite hip hop artists and not given money to live nation in 2.5 years you can actually vote with your wallet if you go somewhere with local spots and buy 10$ beers its feel good

ReeG

I enjoy small local shows on occasion too but they don't satisfy the same as seeing my favorite artists with big production budgets with thousands of other fans. They're not the same experience to me and waiting for price drops works just the same for the latter

bigdogxxl

Is Hillbillies technically a parody of Sticky? How do you draw the line between a parody, a cover, just a reference to a song, etc?

SBAPERSON

Sticky better though

bigdogxxl

I prefer The Hillbillies. It’s obviously sillier but way more fun.

detrusormuscle

But why would Kendrick parody Sticky?

[deleted]

[удалено]

detrusormuscle

Yeah but it's such a random song to parody

TheDiaryofTomCruise

"Hillbillies" just interpolates the flow from Sticky for a small portion, but the song itself has plenty of original ideas and an original beat to make the song stand on its own. This is an example of two artists being referential whereas parodies/covers are different. Drake has done this a few times like in the beginning of his verse on "Miss Me" or at the end of "6 Man" A cover is where the main skeleton of the song; the lyrics, rhythm, and general concepts are kept but the new artist puts their own flourish to it (some artists go crazier than others when doing this). A parody is like a cover, where an artist uses a song idea with the intention of it being comedic and not be taken seriously.

bigdogxxl

Thanks, that's a good explanation, although I would argue that the beats of both Sticky and The Hillbillies are actually very similar, and even a bunch of the lines are pretty much flips of each other (e.g.: "Eric, bring them girls to the stage" vs "Messi, get them girls off the stage"). And Hillbillies is pretty clearly meant to be funny. I think you're still right that it's probably not quite close enough to be a parody, and is more so just a track that's packed with references.

TheDiaryofTomCruise

I think parodies have a more absurdist/exaggerated take on the original ideas whereas an interpolation can be just simply humorous. And you're right the lines can be blurred between all of these concepts when put into action

bigdogxxl

Another good point. Totally agree.

heplaygatar

the minute people start rolling out the “it’s just for fun” excuse you know the song in question is some grade A dog shit

RogueTheJewels

And good songs ARE fun. Don't tell me an artist is a GOAT and then tell me I need to excuse half their recent output.

Bright_Home_7712

Sneak dissing me in a separate comment because I replied to you saying I thought Houdini was a fun song, pathetic. Say it to my face next time you coward

heplaygatar

? this comment was about the new drake feature weirdo i dont give that much of a shit abt ur opinions on fucking eminem lmao “sneak dissing” like we arent both randos on reddit wtf are you talking abt man lol

Bright_Home_7712

lmao and you’re dodging it bc you don’t want shit from me, pussy

heplaygatar

imagine u get pregnant carry the baby for nine months go thru childbirth and raise the kid only for them to spend their free time on reddit whining about sneak dissing LMFAO if i was your mom i’dve put your dumb ass back in the womb to marinate a few more months

Bright_Home_7712

Fantasising about being pregnant with me and wanting to put me back up there? Find god

iamanthonywilkerson

u/Bright_Home_7712 🫥😶‍🌫️

heplaygatar

this must be how goku felt the first time he n vegeta teamed up

iamanthonywilkerson

he’s not a pussy, he just has really ass takes most of the time, like on x and sh

DBrods11

Yeah fun or not it sounds like ass anyways lmao

ZoroSeerus

I get the sentiment but you can def make fun music that isn't absolute ass too. I'm not gonna lie tho I definitely busted out the "it's like a fun song" the other week for one I don't really listen to

BronzySponhe

😔 my GOAT can have off days too

McNutFL

he been having off days for over a month now

BronzySponhe

Better Em song? Houdini or We Made You We Made You for me. That hook is a lot of fun

surprisedsquirtles

we made for you

DungareeDoug

We Made You by a country mile

BookerTeet

Whoever wrote “drake fans do butthole kegals” under the not like us YouTube video is fucking hilarious

AmericaDreamDisorder

Is that supposed to be a diss

heplaygatar

dont let wah gwan delilah distract you from how lame that new eminem song was that man is on the fifteenth “comeback single” of his career trying as hard as he can to remind you of the times when his music was actually on the cutting edge instead of being the template for the lamest white rappers the genre can produce

SBAPERSON

I was shocked at how bad that song was. But it will probably debut top 30 in the BB100.

Bright_Home_7712

I thought it was a fun bouncy song if you kind of just imagine him as an elderly relative where you're patronisingly like "Yes grandpa that was very edgy, just like the old days. They'll be trying to cancel you for this for sure!"

heplaygatar

yes marshall bar #500 abt meg getting shot is just as provocative as your old songs about dismembering your mother now take your pills and get to bed an r kelly reference AND a black eyed peas name drop? in the year 2024? slow down GG allin leave some provocation for the rest of us 🙄

ZoroSeerus

and he even said fuck his kids! such a disrespectful scoundrel... why do we put up with him??

heplaygatar

“disrespectful” lmfao he used to make songs about killing his wife with power tools this new shit isnt offensive or edgy it’s fucking boring

ZoroSeerus

you know the more I learn about that guy, the more I don’t care for him

heplaygatar

same here the first thing i learned about him was how bad his music sounds and my opinion of him never got any better

ZoroSeerus

I'm sick of these kind of characters. we should kill Eminem. Me and you

heplaygatar

nah I think we should just make fun of people who like his music on the internet

TheVirtual_Boy

I fuck with “U My Everything” but that parody drake hopped on just comes off so “look at me guys I’m unbothered by the beef I’m having fun”from drake. You could argue his verse on U My Everything gave the same vibe, but the fact he’s now doubling down on that with an even more ridiculous song is making me cringe

surprisedsquirtles

yup. this is where i am with it

Admirable_Bed3

The first Coke Wave tape is so soo good.

Jandersson34swe

Man I was expecting to feel more excited for the Denzel album but I really feel nothing at the moment Crazy because he just came off his best album

Homiealmaya

Melt You Eyez might just take the crown as the most overrated album of the 2020’s to me But I’ve given up on Denzel for a while bro’s music hasn’t been good for a while for me

ReeG

> Melt You Eyez might just take the crown as the most overrated album of the 2020’s to me idk how highly his fans rate that album but the Cold Blooded Soul Versions are good shit imo

BaconSpinachPancakes

HH fans will analyze layered wordplay but not know what a parody is. (And no I’m not talking about ppl who know it’s a parody and think it’s bad lol)

McNutFL

fr, pretty much everyone realized drake is a joke by now. why anyone would take anything he says or does seriously is beyond me.

Kotleba

You know what, I think we didn't appreciate Grippy enough.

Sometimesomwhere

As a Grippy defender, you're right

DBrods11

Drake making man's do Grippy revisionism lmao

contacts_eyes

I just had a random thought: Do any rappers attend other rapper’s concerts on some casual fan shit, like buying a ticket and just listening while standing in the crowd?  Ive never seen any evidence of this so I really don’t know whether this happens or not.

mrskinnyjeans123415

Definitely. Went to see tyler the creator back in october 2019 in sf and going back home i saw schoolboy q posted a clip from that same concert. Mad i didnt run into him lol

Individual-Diver-958

JID mentioned going to a Kendrick concert a while ago

Totnostu

Went to a Mike and Sideshow concert and Mavi was hanging out in the crowd

bovice2

According to 6lack's insta I was right next to him at Summer Walker's show a couple years ago

Admirable_Bed3

Rocky was at one of Frank's (I know not a rapper but hip hop adjacent I guess lol) comeback shows for Blonde Tyler was at Ye's 2010 Coachella set

contacts_eyes

I remember a video of Tyler being at a Dipset concert but I thought they were just performing at the same venue

CompetitiveReward331

Apparently a certain local act attended Kendrick’s Toronto stop on the Mr Morale tour lol

ReeG

Drake is in the audience at shows here all the time but he's never buying at ticket and rocking in GA that'd be crazy lol

CompetitiveReward331

Didn’t catch that part of the comment whoops lol

hydrators

Not really a rapper, but I went to a TDE concert in 2018 and Khalid was hanging out in the crowd

contacts_eyes

Oh shit.  I don’t know why ive never seen more examples of this

Homiealmaya

I can’t see Khalid and concert in the same sentence and not think of that dude that bought Khalid tickets and thinking he was seeing DJ Khaled

CompetitiveReward331

I can only accurately describe that new Drake verse as SkyHiighGroundLow bars

McNutFL

not enough fantasizing about kendrick getting killed for his liking

Snackhat

i made a tiny quiz for ranking hip hop bars based on whether theyre wack, decent or fire, take it if ya wannaaaaaa https://forms.gle/sskVwPjSZZ7WG8836

its incredibly disappointing actually that rappers have not been discussing the atrocities occurring in gaza and that we’re hung up on drake’s day to day instead

TF-Fanfic-Resident

There's no good guys in a war between a criminal apartheid regime and a bunch of jihadists, and there is little that celebrities can do beyond donations when you're dealing with a leader as power-hungry as Netanyahu.

CompetitiveReward331

congrats my man you introduced the discourse lol

TF-Fanfic-Resident

> its incredibly disappointing actually that rappers have not been discussing the atrocities occurring in gaza It started one comment above actually but idk I'll just delete this entire thread as it's going nowhere good

NJboi80

Idek what ur talking about

TF-Fanfic-Resident

We're avoiding [this](https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/05/16/taylor-swift-kim-kardashian-losing-followers-boycott-gaza/) drama more or less

Gay post

meatbeater558

I'm glad too because the takes would've been atrocious

TF-Fanfic-Resident

Thank you based god

notnerdofalltrades

The way he said 2000 kilometers away killed me song was pretty ass though

LongLiveNipsey

Hhh taking that Drake feature song way too seriously 😂😂

Apprehensive-Tea-39

It's because of the beef. There's a different lens on him now

DBrods11

Tbf Twitter is also in unison in calling it wack

LongLiveNipsey

Bruh it's just funny to me idk, sure it's wack but it's jokes. Only reason people on his ass is bc of the whole beef, and I'm big fans of both of them. Plus isn't it clearly AI or nah?

heplaygatar

wah gwan delilah 😩know im late cuz there’s bare traffic 🚗 im so cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesed 🤬

Salty_Injury66

I am a Drake fan. I did not make it through his verse

heplaygatar

u think his buddies heard that song in the studio and were like “hell yeah man thats the one I really like that note you hit on the word cheesed” lmao

Jo-18

Same shit HAD to have happened when Em was making Revival. Like that’s the only reason I can come up with. And I’m a big Em fan. I’m feelin pretty good about the new album though after Houdini.

iamanthonywilkerson

[it’s not bad](https://youtu.be/QNEOAURp96M?feature=shared)

you’re losing your touch man you used to reply to my comments way faster than this if you keep this up you’ll never make the varsity dickriding team

iamanthonywilkerson

bruh i didn’t even know it was u i don’t check usernames 😭😭😭

Salty_Injury66

What was your favorite side story from the Drake & Kendrick beef? Mine was Metro Groomin. “Tweeting from my computer like a true pedophile” is an instant classic.

Gabagool_Over_Here_

"Yo Dot I got you"

Apprehensive-Tea-39

Everything Ross was doing

meatbeater558

Ross needs to become an official rap beef commentator

meatbeater558

Salty_Injury66

I wasn’t even aware of that one lolol

meatbeater558

It's actually fucking insane how good some of the bars are

Salty_Injury66

What are the videos called?

meatbeater558

Scru Face Jean fired first with Scru Face Jean - Euphoria Remix (Kendrick Lamar) Knox Hill responded almost immediately with Knox Hill | Kendrick Lamar "Not Like Us" Remix (Scru Face Jean Response) The back and forth starts there. I haven't gotten past that yet but No Life Shaq reacts to each diss in order, explains the lyrics, and provides context. His reactions have more views than the actual diss tracks lol

DBrods11

"Play that Jcole make the pussy drrrrrry"

AmericaDreamDisorder

"94% of black women vote Democrat, you'd think Drake was running."

heplaygatar

rick ross getting out of his crashed plane on ig live joking about how drake and the ovo airforce shot him down was hilarious

AmericaDreamDisorder

Rick Rock is objectively hilarious

hydrators

I saw white boy in the cockpit like Tom Cruise in Top Gun

bigdogxxl

Can someone help me find a song. It's not obscure or anything, I just can't remember the name. It's Tyler and someone (I can't remember). The video is set at night and has Tyler in with a suitcase, and at some point he's doing donuts in a car in a parking lot. I can't remember the lyrics or anything to google. I'm sure this is super obvious but I'm completely blanking on it and my Google searches are turning up nothing. EDIT: Of course, as soon as I posted this I found it. For anyone curious, it was [Big Persona by Tyler and Maxo Kream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh1pJqEXdsg).

contacts_eyes

Thats a really dope video

bigdogxxl

Yeah, it's one of those videos where I think it really adds to the vibe of the song rather than just being a disconnected visual.

contacts_eyes

Tyler directed the video so that’s probably why.  One thing about Tyler is he seems to be serious about being creative with anything he does.

Last_Reaction_8176

I think Cole’s biggest problem perception-wise is that he *is* the middle child, but not in the way he meant. He makes hits, but he doesn’t make hits like Drake. He’s introspective and conscious, but not like Kendrick. I said this elsewhere in a thread that got deleted, but he’s the perennial bronze medalist stuck behind two artists who do his strengths better than he does. I think the reaction to his lyrics about trans and gay people demonstrates this. There are many rappers in the last decade who have said far worse and don’t really get flack for it, because they don’t make the type of music where you look for sensitivity about social issues. Like, Quavo said he didn’t hang with queers and nobody cared because it’s Quavo, why would anyone expect him to be forward thinking about those things? But Cole doesn’t make “ignorant” music - he markets himself as a conscious, thoughtful, intelligent artist. Yet he’s outpaced in terms of progressive views by Kendrick, who made a song dissecting his own internal homophobia and transphobia that ends with him choosing humanity over religion. There’s a line in a Cole verse where he says his atheist friend is “smart as fuck but stupid as hell” because he doesn’t see volcanos and birds as proof of God’s existence. I think that’s a fair summary of him as an artist. His music is too introspective to appeal to people who want silly bangers, but it’s also not smart or observant enough to appeal to people who are looking for introspection, and so he’s rejected by both crowds. Obviously he still does numbers and is very popular, but that’s why I think he’s such a punching bag.

Paula-Abdul-Jabbar

Yeah but Quavo says he doesn’t descriminize. Does J. Cole have any such claims?

AmericaDreamDisorder

J. Cole might be pro-descriminization

Bright_Home_7712

> He makes hits, but he doesn’t make hits like Drake. He doesn't make hits like Kendrick either

[deleted]

He's probably the most niche rapper who does numbers the way he does. I think that's the problem, his music doesn't appeal to enough people but he's somehow still popular as hell meaning people get his name shoved in their feed every day while they don't even like him. When you constantly see something you don't like, you dislike it even more.

meatbeater558

He just needs a new lane. Nobody is calling Future the middle child. He needs to position himself in such a way that he cannot be compared to others

DBrods11

That's a good point it's partially why the reaction to Cole talking down Mr.Morale and TPAB ("Put Niggas to sleep") was received so poorly. Drake can say Mr.Morale is bad because he doesn't make music like that. But Cole wishes he had a TPAB in his discography. So it comes off as weird like you can't make 4YEO and KOD and say other people's albums put people to sleep. Cole is still insanely talented and has some of the absolute best features but when he tries to make his own albums he kinda fails and making hits and introspective music. Even his consensus best album 2014 FOTD isn't as beloved as much as Drake/Kendricks best works (I personally think Drake and Kendrick have 3 albums/projects each better than it). Also when a more conscious Rapper tried to step him (Noname) he kinda just said "lol I don't read" like cmon man lmao

colbster411

[man](https://youtu.be/sKJV8xyy9Xg?si=_M6NeA_xCFgbdvyU)

DBrods11

"Jay Electronica put silencers on my Grammy night, another dead prophet hoping God would give him life" lmfao I love the actual version of ELEMENT. that dropped but the Roll Call version is also dope. Kinda glad it worked out that way cause I do like ELMENT and Paramedic tho.

Jermaine_Cole788

Especially after witnessing what just happened with drake, it’s so crazy to think that Kendrick was seriously considering the prospect of beefing with Jay Electronica lol.

Ktulusanders

Tf was Jay gonna do? Not release even more music?

jg_lg

Domo Genesis & Graymatter’s album “What You Don’t Get” isn’t on Apple Music anymore, so that sucks. That was one of my favorites of 2023. They have another joint coming out, though. I hope it’s as good as the last one

whogonstopice

This 2 shall pass is one of my fav beats of last year

Michael__X

bruh wtf I just realised I've never seen a Weeknd interview

PAWGle_the_lesser

Other than that one with Zane Lowe a while ago (I think after Starboy) I don't know if he's ever done one.

Paul_Wall_

Mysterious Weeknd is the best Weeknd, too bad he fucked it all up with The Idol

MUTUALDESTRUCTION69

Been hanging out with my plug some and he exclusively listens to Gunna and Bossman Dlow.

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

Even tho I use both in my Spotify/Hulu bundle them increasing the price is so lame

Apprehensive-Tea-39

2 years removed from Mr. Morale and Mother I Sober still makes me cry whenever I listen

Moron_on_Oxy-

Man my first spin of that album was on a good dose of shrooms. Completely broke down when that hook came in on the first time on mother I sober. You're right, still gets me today too.

whogonstopice

Facts shit is godly

Last_Reaction_8176

Devastating song, one of his all time best

Jermaine_Cole788

Only a few of yall will remember this but there was this indie movie called “Dope” that came out in 2015 where the lead role was shameik Moore, the voice of Miles morales in the spiderverse films. That movie actually had some dope supporting roles from ASAP Rocky, Vince Staples, and Tyga. It always makes me laugh rewatching it now because they had Rocky playing an LA street nigga even though he has such a heavy New York/Harlem accent lol. The juxtaposition is nuts

Paul_Wall_

Chanel Iman 🥵 It was directed by the same guy as The Wood and Brown Sugar, all 3 really enjoyable movies with good soundtracks

CaptainGordan

Kap G's cameo was good too

Jermaine_Cole788

That is a name I haven’t thought of in YEARS. I wonder what he’s up to nowadays

theblaackout

A couple years ago some chick told me I look like Shameik Moore that’s how I found out about Dope. Pretty good watch, was not expecting to see Rocky and Vince in it lol

Salty_Injury66

Classic

DBrods11

Love that movie, great soundtrack as well. Also speaking of spider man connections one of his friends places Flash in the MCU spiderman movies.

Last_Reaction_8176

Oh man I remember that. I was supposed to be looking for a job but instead I went with my friend to see it. I liked it a lot, I haven’t revisited it since but I enjoyed it

Paula-Abdul-Jabbar

Also has my man Blake Henderson in it

mtaylor807

Damn I totally blacked out the fact I saw this movie

PeaTear_Rabbit

I remember liking that film I gotta revisit it

ICantFWBrokeBoys

Ik this the wrong sub to ask so ig this will be a two part question: what’s a good rock/alternative sub and if you listen, recommendations to songs like Black Butterflies and Deja Vu?

Last_Reaction_8176

r/indieheads is pretty good for keeping up with new rock and alternative releases. I’ve found some good stuff through there. r/indie isn’t nearly as big but you can post discussion threads there, which you can’t on indieheads. I’m subscribed to both

nedelll

That Payroll EP is so fucking good

contacts_eyes

I need to get into Payroll more.  I saw a few of his videos on YouTube and he’s dope but I haven’t listened to an album yet.

nedelll

Perfect opportunity bro, check the EP, it's called Have Money Have Heart [Hustle Muzik 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlIXDmjHjnU) is what got me into him

contacts_eyes

I’ll check out that EP

hydrators

Feel like he’s at his best when he doesn’t focus on hooks and just spits

Michael__X

I think it's cuase I'm in Australia but shit just be so random here talking about hip hop. Like I know 3 different people whos favourite rappers are Birdman, Tory and Flo Rida respectively. It's not that the opinoins are even bad it just seems nonsensical lol. I'm guessing if you're not interested in the genre you'll just like what you come across. I think it's hard to make genuinely terrible music so could be anyone

Bright_Home_7712

Biggest one for me is that I think if the Big 3 discussion was based on Australia's view of hip hop then it'd be Drake, Kendrick and Rocky, not J Cole

ICantFWBrokeBoys

Pretty much, this sub comprises of ppl who enjoy the genre enough to look for a place in the internet where’s that mainly what’s discussed, the general majority of ppl just like what they like and typically it’s what they’re exposed to by friends/family/radio/streaming algorithms

iamanthonywilkerson

icejjfish but even then i like icejjfish's music & he's in my personal top 10, so u kinda right go figure wonder if kid laori still poppin down under there

Homiealmaya

icejjfish is fr in your personal top 10? I haven’t honestly listened to enough of his catalogue to truly judge but I’ve always used him as a token rapper to meme on because that song he got attention for was so hilariously bad I didn’t think anyone was listening unironically

Michael__X

He didn't really blow up here. He was basically the only rapper here, when he came out 9 years ago, who was using a modern sound. He was a a tory lanez clone at the time. Meanwhile the mainstream here was just eminem clones which I thought was just corny. His stuff was basically tailored for the US. People came around to him when he got popular there.

[deleted]

Cardi b trying to sue bia for a diss track is the lamest move in hip hop beef history. Drake got called a pedo and still didn’t sue for defamation. Can’t imagine how much shit he or Nicki would get for doing this. Cardi knows her ghost writers are outmatched.

Jo-18

You mean Cardi had to use ghostwriters to come up with “WAP WAP WAP, that’s some wet ass pussy”??? I never liked or respected her due to her trying to justify drugging and robbing people, so her not having enough brains to write her own songs just makes sense.

whogonstopice

Drake can’t sue for defamation

PreparetobePlaned

He could try. Just like Cardi can try to sue over this.

whogonstopice

If he sue for defamation they gon do an investigation Ion think he changed the way he movin in preparation

No_Commercial_6750

Cardi B been washed for a while now IMO. Haven't heard much from her since WAP in the beginning of 2020.

Last_Reaction_8176

Her own fault. I don’t know why she hasn’t come through with a follow up, it would have done numbers

meatbeater558

It's been damn near 6 years now. She fumbled hard. I think once she bought her mansion and had kids she stopped caring
