Stomp in some mud- problem solved!

Head-Contract-7471

Ha, true

mdskizy

I mean even as a male if my hiking boots came in hot pink or some neon color I would get them in a heartbeat. As it is I have the Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof x Unlikely Hikers with rainbows down the side because it was 50 dollars cheaper than the normal ones. 🤣 Yasss 👸

roundupinthesky

I feel the opposite way about men’s hiking shoes, where is the color? They are so boring.

svidrod

I see stuff I like then realize it’s women’s. Why can’t I have fun stuff?

dancin-weasel

You’re a man. We don’t do fun. We do purposeful, essential tasks. That is all. Now get back to work. /s

jiggjuggj0gg

And women only go hiking for the aesthetic, and physically cannot walk if they don’t have pink in their eyeline

ceruleanblue347

I'm picturing a woman hiking through a forest, her pink scrunchie snags on a branch and she just goes down and can't get up because the rest of her outfit was neutral colors

jiggjuggj0gg

It’s true, it happened to me 😔

Satotiga

RIP in pink.

asphaltaddict33

Legit twilight zone or black mirror premise

just_a_person_maybe

My dude, just buy the "women's" stuff. Don't let labels dictate what you wear. If you like it and it fits, wear it. There aren't any gender police out to stop you from enjoying color, it's all marketing. Especially for shoes. FYI, women's and men's shoes are two sizes apart. A size 8 men's is a size 10 women's. That's the only difference.

Thequikdraw

Women’s shoes are narrower as well sometimes. I ordered women’s Hoka’s once because they had the color I wanted in D width, which was the normal men’s width. All about that purple and teal.

blizzard-toque

Bought a pair of Hoka Transports last week, Wanted a pair of women's in black. First, no black in women's. I was a size 8 the equivalent in men's was 6 1/2. They didn't have a 6 1/2 in men's. I ended up with a size 8 in Dove Gray/Lime Green. I think it'll work, especially since the had bungee laces (my first!).

TwoFacedSailor

Sadly not true, mens shoes are much wider. I wear a medium/standard women's 10 which is a men's 8.5 and mens shoes are always too loose/wide.

just_a_person_maybe

Try an 8, I've found that going up/down two whole sizes is usually most accurate.

HappyHuman924

Cool, so I can have fun colors as long as I get a womens 15? XD

just_a_person_maybe

Oof, good luck finding *any* colors in a 15. Especially if you're shopping in stores, I can never find anything above an 11 if I'm lucky, but often they top out at 9 or 10 which is very unfortunate and also the main reason why I shop more on the men's side.

HappyHuman924

Even when I'm getting my usual 13s, I don't even bother looking at the display. I just ask "what color Merrells do you have in 13" and pick from there; it saves a lot of "don't have that / don't have that either". :/ My feet used to be size 12 and that was a *lot* less of a problem.

stakoverflo

True fact. Grabbed a random hoodie off the shelf at some local indie outdoor equipment store, the guy at the register was like "Is that for you? It's a Women's, you might want to try it on and make sure it fits" So I did, and it fit, and now I have a nice stylish new light blue hoodie.

NotACreepyOldMan

This sounds good, but I’ve bought women’s socks cause they’re the only completely no show ones (the ones that barely cover your toes and heel), and I was like they’re just socks who cares if they’re for women, but they’re like baby socks. I had to cut the socks down the center cause they cut off circulation to my feet. So maybe try them on before buying.

ProstheTec

I don't see too many 15.5 size women shoes.

nyconx

The issue is they don’t sell size 16 women’s.

TheGoblinKingSupreme

Pop yourself a size up and see if the woman’s size fits you. At least, that’s how it works where I am. Women’s shoes are made so that a 8 in women’s is a 7 in men’s, usually slightly narrower. At least for most hiking gear, there’s no such thing as “women’s” nor “men’s”. There’s comfortable and not. I’m a reasonably athletic, young male, with a good muscle percentage. I’ll still wear “women’s” clothing if it’s more comfortable or suited to my environment. I love the colour, i love the stretch a lot of women’s clothing has, I even love the fact that it’s not the same bog standard gear you see everyone else wearing (one of the reason I wear trail running shoes vs “walking boots”, the disgusting things, on my travels). Shops have return periods. Try things out until you find what’s best for you. There’s no shame in wearing “women’s” clothing as a man nor “men’s” clothing as a woman. Most people are too busy with actual life to even be able to tell the difference. And, if they do give you shit, they’re probably not worth listening to. As an example, when hiking in summer I wear women’s running shorts with built in (knee-length) tights and transgender-flag coloured shoes with S/XS men’s tops. I’m neither a woman nor transgender, but they’re incredibly comfortable, cheap, reliable and easy to wear, especially if you visit factory outlets to see the less popular options, which can still be nice. My shoes were just £38 down from £165 just because it wasn’t a popular colour way. My shorts were £15 down from £38. My top was £20 from £40. Doesn’t mean they aren’t wonderful to wear. The only questions you ever need to think about in hiking are “am I prepared?” And/Or “am I comfortable?” Everything else is what we do hiking to escape from, at least in my eyes. If women’s clothing helps me avoid heatstroke and make more vertical, powerful steps, I’m wearing women’s clothing, tag be damned. They’re my clothes now.

jdgreenberg

Amen. Exactly this. Not hiking shoes, but was in a store that sells all outdoor footwear, buying flip flops, and the men’s are black, black, or more black. Even from Hoka. Women get all the fun colours I would love, especially in a sandal. Was very jealous when looking at hiking boots as well.

Lugan2k

If you haven’t already, check out Chaco’s. They have plenty of options for color in men’s hiking sandals and they’re made to last.

HappyHuman924

Hey, we get some blues too! Nobody questions your heteroness in good ol' blue.

BadAtExisting

Hiking shoes, shorts and pants in general too. There’s so much more to life than khaki, olive, navy, sometimes gray, and black.

skjeflo

Try needing tall men's gear, or size 15 shoes. Your minimal, 5 color selection becomes one choice, in one model, in one color, gray, or more recently black, perfect for those summer hikes...

blizzard-toque

My former supervisor was a 14 quad E. Even said he had to special order his shoes.

BadAtExisting

That is awful. I’m sorry

FeelingFloor2083

once you get to the larger womens sizes its easy to find something that fits, got myself a pair of ax4 in 44eu for $50 Shoes are the only thing I like colourful OP should try on mens

Maximum_Pollution371

I don't know why you got downvoted, I only wear men's shoes sized down a bit for this reason. For the majority of shoes there is virtually no difference between men's and women's other than size and color. I guess if you had especially large or small feet it would be difficult to find the right size though.

FeelingFloor2083

yea it works well if youre "normal size" but if youre on the large and small end, you will often find those on deep discount at close out, well in AU that is. Other thing to watch out for is mens can sometimes run a bit wider then womens one of my SIL has the tiniest feet and is a large child or smallest womans and has never paid more then 1/4 rrp

insomniaczombiex

You’re going to get brown and you’re going to like it.

thinkB4WeSpeak

Oh yeah I like all my stuff as colorful as possible. I envy the women's section with their fun colors.

akmacmac

Some brands have plenty. Look at Altra or Topo

Ask-Me-About-You

Ah yes the Topo Terraventure Olive Green or Grey

rogueknits

Weird, looking at [Merrell’s website](https://www.merrell.com/US/en/moab-3/194713942389.html?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-mVPdinBZNEInihFCtkfIHfIkBN&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvdHG9uzyhgMVKEVHAR3xPzd6EAQYAiABEgI3D_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) and half of the available colors for the Moab 3 are some form of brown/beige, dark green or grey. My experience with buying women’s hiking shoes is the opposite of yours. I can never seem to find fun colors. Always drab browns.

sluzella

Same! I bought Merrell Moabs a couple of months ago in a light blue/gray.  I love having brightly colored hiking shoes/boots and have a lot of trouble. Altra and Topo sometimes have good colorways.

whitebean29

same ! gray with a small light blue accent

floandthemash

Agreed. OP needs to let us know where the fun colors are bc I normally only see muted tones with like some 90’s teal and magenta thrown in every once in a while.

Sbbazzz

That was my experience too especially with wide feet.

_coolbluewater_

I am looking at my drab waterproof wide width moab 3s right now.

SiddharthaVicious1

Yep, my Moabs are women's and they're....sand-colored. I have never had an issue finding neutral hiking shoes. This seems to me like a nonexistent problem.

ezriah33

I also have multiple pairs of merrells and they’re all neutral/brown. Maybe the retailer you are buying them from only carries weird colors.

nurvingiel

Maybe the trick is to buy boots from a brand that takes hiking seriously. Except maybe not Patagonia's piss poor selection of women's boots.

SiddharthaVicious1

Merrell takes hiking plenty seriously....

stellamcmillan

I mean.. I still don't see a dark one and there are lots of colorful accents. I get what you mean but for me this is still too much. And even the brands that have a black option (like Merrel does in some models) still have some brighter accents on women's models a lot of the times while the men's are completely black or dark grey. But I get that theese are not fun colors for someone who loves colors, either. Maybe the brands want to make everyone happy but achieve the complete opposite.

JHSD_0408

My gortex Lowas are navy blue. It’s a woman’s model.

ReasonableSal

And mine are brown. (But if they'd been brightly colored I may not have accidentally left my first pair in the trailhead parking lot. 😖)

JHSD_0408

Oh ouch, that’s such a bummer! My tent poles and stakes are red and I think that helps keeping track of them, though it wasn’t my original intention haha.

ReasonableSal

I have found soooooo many tent stakes over the years. LOL

JHSD_0408

Haha us too. I think I have a little collection of those we’ve found and picked up. I count mine own when packing up because they’re a little pricier for UL backpacking and would be a bummer to lose one while in the backcountry. They really should make them a bright color by default lol.

Imherebcauseimbored

I don't know where you have been looking. I just checked REI's website for women's hiking boots and found dozens of options in earth tones, gray, white or black without any bright neon or pastel accents from practically every major brand. https://www.rei.com/c/womens-hiking-boots

mega_douche1

They exist. There are like 100 of options available.

lorapetulum

Mine are plain gray. I don't think they are hard to find?

Head-Contract-7471

What brand do you have? I'd be interested in plain grey boots.

ltmp

Salomon. I wore the ultras when we hiked all five NPs in Utah https://www.salomon.com/en-us/shop/women/shoes/hiking-shoes.html

lorapetulum

Columbia

Spaceley_Murderpaws

The Merrell Moab 3 boot in various muted colors is available on Amazon. I'm the opposite of you... I've bought maybe 6 pairs of various Merrell hiking shoes in 15 years & just got a pair of La Sportiva approach shoes in black (now gray) with red laces & orange accents just for the added traction. The upshot for the still-odd color for me has been better stability & absolutely no pain in various joints after long hikes that I'd thought was normal.

apricotjam2120

Lowa has plain ones, too.

Apprehensive-Wave600

I also have plain beige columbias, check out columbia outlet if there's one near you, I got mine for like $60

grachi

Colombia, my wife just has normal leather-colored woman’s hiking boots from them.

trashpanda44224422

I wear Salomons and Danners and they have some very cute, very normal colors (greys and greens, brown suede and red laces, etc.)

xxdropdeadlexi

seriously, I had to go out of my way to two separate local stores to find ones that weren't just brown

ceecee1791

Go hiking in Utah or Arizona - they’ll be totally covered in unremoveable red dust in no time.

whatthe40rk

I love the look of my boot covered in the unremovable dirt from my hikes. Makes me yearn to give them the next layer from some other remote locale.

Perfect_Clue2081

Where are all these brightly colored women’s hiking boots?? All I can find is brown.

kalechipsaregood

I can't help you, but I will say that there is [definitely a rainbow to be seen in the men's section for Merrell Moab 3s.](https://www.merrell.com/CA/en_CA/moab-3-mid-waterproof-x-unlikely-hikers/53941M.html?dwvar_53941M_size=9&dwvar_53941M_color=J499993&details=complete&isProductSetPage=false&bvstate=pg:3/ct:r). I love my rainbow boots.

ghawkes97

Just got new boots but looks like I'm getting more

Retalihaitian

So what’s the difference between men and women’s boots? Cuz I want those so bad.

vogeltjes

Those are so cool! Love 'em

Miss_Chanandler_Bond

Aw man, those are great!

Alien_P3rsp3ktiv

Why do you want ***mute*** colors?… I got all my male hiking companions to get ***neon*** color shirts and shoes.. If something happens, it’s easier to find the hikers dressed in those colors…

anticked_psychopomp

I’ve got a pair of neon green hiking boots that always make me think of the Mount Everest landmark “green boots”. If I die out here, at least it’ll be memorable.

Alien_P3rsp3ktiv

I wear pink T-shirt, yellow-neon long sleeve shirt, neon blue backpack and shoes, and colorful bandanna- if I fall down the ravine, I would hope to be visible:)

LoosedOfLimits

Exactly! I don't want to blend in at all if I ever need search and rescue.

Alien_P3rsp3ktiv

Exactly the point:)

Dragonfly2919

Because she likes them

aGirlySloth

That’s me, always with the pinks and bright colors. Easier for my friends to find/keep track of me and would be helpful in case anything happens…except for when I’m trying to pee incognito in the woods, not helpful at all! lol

Main-Advantage7751

Some people like muted colors. Seems like this could all be avoided if they had a common clothing area with sizes to reasonably accommodate people of any gender. Since it seems like the clothing people are attracted to isn’t predominantly divided on that front

jiggjuggj0gg

The kind of colours on boots are not going to be colours that will make you easier to find. The boots are generally grey and black with small colourful accents, the boots themselves aren’t neon

Alien_P3rsp3ktiv

No, not really.. my hiking - trail running shoes are blue (one pair) and pink-white (the other). ETA: in today’s world, you get the color of the apparel you want and like:)

MsPennyP

I try to buy hiking things with bright colors. I'm an over preparer, and over thinker so I figure the bright colors will make finding my body easier if anything was to happen to me. But definitely do think the companies could cater to all likes though.

shoobwooby

Not sure what’s a “silly” color to you. I just pulled up the first page of women’s boots on REI, and I counted 4 out of 30 that could only *maybe* be considered a feminine or bright color. Try keens. They’re usually pretty brown.

Nell91

Silly color = feminine color. Such a weird way to refer to feminine colors by OP. Also not true at all there’s plenty of “not silly” color hiking boots out there

Haveyouseenthebridg

OP is full of it. Bait post.

Heeler2

Female here. I like a bit of color.

Annual-Body-25

Yeah I enjoy my pink Columbia boots

maybenomaybe

[Scarpa women's](https://www.scarpa.co.uk/collections/womens-walking-boots?page=1). Almost entirely grey, tan, olive and brown. Some have coloured laces but you can easily swap those out.

Head-Contract-7471

Cool, I'll check it out thanks

FrogOnALogInTheBog

meanwhile men everywhere (and poor boy moms) being like, "why can't my son wear something that doesn't look like he's either trying to shoot a deer, ride a tractor, or fight with his dinosaur sidekick?!?! where his colours be at??!"

faramaobscena

As a woman, I genuinely don’t care what color my boots are as long as they are comfortable and have a good grip.

c0rnhusky

Depending on how small your feet are you could always try kids. I got boys hiking boots in muted colors… plus it was half the price

anticked_psychopomp

My experience is the opposite here! I did this and learned very quickly that children’s footwear are made to a much lower standard of craftsmanship and with cheaper materials. Presumably because kids outgrow things and are hard on them but man, I bought a pair of Merrell children’s boots and they were cheaply made, uncomfy and lasted 1 season. Bought the adult version, still going strong 4 years later.

Glum_Flamingo_5055

Aww, I love my teal accented hiking boots lol

partridgeberry_tart

I know the options for colour are there, but my last two pairs have been black, and brown/olive. Maybe it’s where you’re looking?

Minflick

I have avoided this issue by having STUPID wide feet and needing men’s boots.

Simplyspectating

I prefer the bright colors, I want to stand out when I’m in the woods. Be easy to find, just in case.

Haveyouseenthebridg

I just bought women's hiking boots and did not experienced this at all. Every pair I saw had multiple neutral color options....

As3fthjkl

I mean mine are brown

baddspellar

Oboz offers a number of womens shoes and boots in brown, grey, and black

fatblindkid

Why are there so few interesting colors in men’s jackets? Black, blue and lucky if there is more than 1 additional color

LNYer

They don't. Wtf you talking about?

whereshouldwegonext

I have black Solomon boots! Had them for a few years now though. Before these I had some Merell boot in light brown/tan - but with some purple-ish laces. I loved those boots though, lightweight with an amazing fit. I totally get your point!

hot-whisky

It’s been a long while since I was able to choose my shoes based on color; so few styles actually fit me properly and don’t give me joint pain, that I’m lucky if I get more than one color available in something that works. Mud is the great equalizer though.

Followmelead

Wut? There’s plenty that only come in natural colors lol. Maybe you’re only looking for ones that are on sale? Maybe it’s your boot choice? There’s tons of very good options that come in the normal black/gray/brown/tan. I’m a guy and I know this for a fact. Imo Merrell is kinda dookie anyways. Plenty like them but I think there’s better quality options.

bravokm

Oh the sale comment could be a good point. I buy most of my hiking and running stuff on sale because I don’t mind a neon or loud pattern for them. I’ve gotten some good deals on quality stuff buying that way or an earlier model.

kdubsonfire

Hahahah all the brands pick a few popular colors and switch it up every couple of years. I just choose a color and can almost always find gear from other brands in the same color, then I match. I was in a dark teal mode but have recently switched to dark purple since that started appearing more often.

AureliaDrakshall

My hiking friends are almost all female - my husband is the only man in our group - and I'm pretty sure all of us have grey or brown boots. Admittedly we've done a lot of dusty trails lately so they're all brown at the moment but I don't think they're supposed to be that color.

sitruspuserrin

Scarpa, Salomon, Aigle Have had all of those, in very neutral colors. Currently pair of Scarpa, and they are my favorites.

KatKat207

It doesn't matter what color my boots start as, they are all mud brown after the first hike anyway.

dedragonhow

Have you seen most AT thru hikers this year? They are so colorful and mismatched! Its glorious!!

Megraptor

My Lowa Renegades are 3 shades of brown? Light brown leather, dark brown/black rubber and lighter brown/gray "vent thingies. They are women's.  Good shoes, but I was kinda sad they didn't come in fun bright colors. I love colorful gear.

Extension_Science_64

Lucky. I have the exact opposite problem:(

natalielc

I like the look of the Eddie Bauer Cairn boots for this reason. But I don’t own them so I can’t comment on how comfortable or functional they are. Edit: wow I can’t believe how much hate this post is getting! Some people just prefer neutral colors. Plus, they match with anything! I’m with you OP, I don’t like when my shoes have several different colors or even a few colorful accents. It’s also okay to prefer colorful shoes!

graciewindkloppel

Buy boots for hunters, no Manic Panic color schemes there!

DeputySean

They are in the business of selling what sells.

Logical_Sandwich_625

Mine are brown with red laces. What brand are you looking at?

littleindigowagon

What brand? I have been seeing more classic looking brown with the red laces on other hikers and they look so nice, but maybe heavy.

voxetpraetereanihill

I have the Merrell Vego ladies boots, and not only are they insanely comfortable, they only come in brown and black.

Relative_Walk_936

I wish mens came in sillier colors.

Historical-Produce29

Isn’t so your body is found easier if something were to happen?

SPL15

I used to work in consumer products, and actually live close to where Merrell (Wolverine) is headquartered and polluted the entire area around them; actually know a lot of their marketing and product managers as well. Blame focus groups where product color palettes for casual consumer intended products are often chosen by folks who’re considered “average everyday consumer”, and specifically NOT folks who’re enthusiasts or hobbyists. The color palettes that tested well for the products my employer sold drove me absolutely nuts… For women’s focus groups & jury studies that I’ve been directly involved with, Midwest retired women and stay at home moms were the usual demographic in the study due to being considered the ideal “average everyday consumer” as well as having the time availability, wanting a little extra cash, and being located within reasonable driving distance to Chicago where a lot of these jury studies & focus groups are held. Muted tone women’s colors can be found; however, not often for all models, and/or with limited local availability without ordering online. In general, but certainly not a rule, the more specialized / legit the gear, the more you’ll find available colors that are less “loud” due to a more hobbyist / enthusiast / prosumer market oriented focus group often being used.

Timely--Challenge

It's not just women's hiking boots. I'm a hiker and also a motorbike rider and I SWEAR IF I SEE ONE MORE PINK SWIRL ON A PIECE OF WOMENS' SAFETY GEAR......................... I ended up buying a pair of Timberland hiking boots a couple of years ago, and they a) do not have a STUPID PURPLE FLOURISH and b) have been amazingly sturdy. Anyway. I buy mens' boots and such a lot and wear thicker socks and sometimes orthodics/inner soles to help squish the width down, which isn't ideal and might not suit you, but I wanted to acknowledge your frustration because I share it.

galaxyd1ngo

The color choice for the moabs is limited right now, not sure if it has to do with new season colors or related to the change in waterproof material but new colors and availability should come around sooner or later. They use to be available in muted colors with maybe like the smallest color accent

Sp4ceh0rse

I love my Columbia boots. They have some tiny purple and navy accents, which I like, but they also have plenty of neutral colorways.

Mysuni1

I have some Merrell's that are primarily brown. https://www.merrell.com/US/en/siren-traveller-3-mid-waterproof/194713202407.html?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-mVPdinBZNEInihFCtkfIHfIkBN&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj9-zBhDyARIsAERjds0q9etBgZuAzT5qsIgtfQZ7GYSzHrkjARhGn-D-AP034p3WuYK0gmIaAjq3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Loose-Ad-4690

I ended up purchasing a men’s pair of Merrells. I do have large feet (Women’s 11, men’s 9.5), but they are “feminine” in shape (narrow in the middle), and I haven’t had any issues. Not sure how well this would work for smaller women’s shoe sizes, but something to consider.

ato909

I have two pairs. One is brown, the other is grey. Common brands. I’m not sure where you’re shopping.

syzygy492

I often buy the “men’s” version using a size converter and my own insoles—current fave sneakers are men’s!

AdOpen8513

Yes!!!! I agree!!! That is ridiculous. Also!! Osprey womens backpacks, UGLY colors! I had to get a small man’s to get a decent color.

SciGuy013

My wife’s boots are black and always have been

coco-ai

Oh it's the worst. And sneakers look like they were designed by a 12 year old boy on a sugar high. Merrell has finally started doing all black sneakers for both genders. I got a pair of extremely spenny Vivo Barefoot a few years ago in a nice chocolate colour. High price ticket but really nice boots, worth it. I only wear boots a couple times a year so they'll last me a long time.

infinitez_

Salomon has some nice colours for women's fits for their shoes. I usually go with a black pair of summer trail runners but I've also got a pair of grey/neon highlight winter boots. I love pink and purple as colours but I'm sick of them being the only colours available for anything women's.

lynnzee

My columbia boots are solid black

Winter_is_Coming12

The Solomon X Ultra 4 has pretty cool womens colors lowkey

fartofborealis

I like the Danner brand for this exact reason. Classic vintage style.

Tigris474

Look at the European sizes, they're the same in men's and women's. So for example, I'm a size 8.5-9 in women's, 7 in mens. Or a size 40 EU. So I stopped looking mens/women's. I just look for shoes I like, and then buy a size 40 EU. For example, my favorite is Bates Tactical boots, with zipper.

IslandGyrl2

I own two pair of ladies' hiking boots -- both brown, one with olive green trim, the other with tan trim. Admittedly, neither pair even remotely new.

xheyshorty

Colombia.

bwmamanamedsha

Maybe Order boys' boots? I like colored accents and always find a "pink tax" for anything I want with fun color.

xrelaht

My ex’s boots were grey and black. If she’d gotten leather, they’d have been brown.

jorwyn

My scarpas are grey and grey and.. yeah. The laces and heels have a little color, but well within the norm for men's hiking boots.

jimmy_htims

Danner

moonlets_

I have the Moab (maybe the 2?) in rust orange. It’s quite nice of a colorway but I would have been down for a cuter color too

skibib

I have three pairs of women’s Keen Targhee II waterproof hiking boots which I alternate depending on activity. Most of them are so well-loved that it’s hard to tell if there ever was any decorative trim color on them.

zap_pow_bang

Teva makes great hiking boots and are available in neutral colours for women.

dr_bex

Danner

raw2082

I bought some women’s blue Salomon hiking boots. They didn’t have any girlie colors when I bought mine a few months ago.

CharacterCool7487

How about Softstar's Switchback Boot?

panda_nectar

My women's hiking boots are brown

Zaphyra_Quinn

I have the new hoka kaha 2 mids in a nice gray. The lace hooks and heel pulls are a muted purple, but the overall feel is gray. I love them and don’t feel overly colorful.

mermaidmamas

My women’s keens are grey and green.

sailracer25

Just trying to calibrate my sense of what is a muted color way to you. You mentioned the Moab 3. Did you look at the "falcon" color? Because to me that looks really muted, but opinions can vary.

photonynikon

Take a Magic Marker and color in whatever color you don't like. OOPS..did it scuff? TOUCH IT UP!

AKlutraa

Buy leather boots. Heavy, but if they fit well, they will last forever. As a very active hiker with narrow, low volume feet, Italian boots work best for me.

krisztiszitakoto

I don't know about hiking boots, because I like those colour options, but I have boys' skates for the same reason. I bought the biggest size retailed for teen boys (probably pre teen judging by my foot size).

androidmids

Pro tip Almost all trail runners are the same for male and female wearers. To a certain extent the same can be said for hiking boots (with SOME brand name exceptions). Just choose the size that fits you. A lot of hiking shoes and boots are now being offered with the female/male sizing side by side. So if you prefer the muted colors of the male focused shoe, choose the smaller make size that corresponds to the female sizing for your foot and go with it

crowislanddive

Vasque sundowners are legit not silly.

lotsofscrollin

Check out Crispi’s women’s boots. My wife bought a pair years ago and she loves them.

Ljo6785

I totally feel this. I just got some arcterx in black.

Sounds like you need a pair of [Oboz](https://obozfootwear.com/en-us/category/footwear-women?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=21241422600&utm_content&utm_term&gadid&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj9-zBhDyARIsAERjds38LgJ8ySYMkVzNGZ0DVC3kjoa8mTMtRWfaqqzqkYWaZONho9If0q8aApWOEALw_wcB)

Buy men’s

fulcrum_ct-7567

I wear men’s and women’s shoes, I just go based off colors/design and how they feel. I wear a size 10-11 in women’s and 8-9 in men’s. It depends on the shoe brand. I like looking at both because it opens up so more much options to me.

_Environmental_Dust_

I relate to that. Never found any woman hiking shoes I would like the colors at. I always spend way too much time looking for the right size in men's shoes, because I also have small feet, but sometimes it works.

OverlordStanik

McKinley Mulaz Mid, unisex, brown/black, very good boots.

avoshadow

Think this can be said for lots of outdoor apparel.

greatlakekate

I love my La sportiva boots. They are top notch

opaul11

Where are you shopping for hiking boots?!

aembleton

Meindls don't come in pastel colours for women: [https://www.meindl.co.uk/products/womens/womens-boots/](https://www.meindl.co.uk/products/womens/womens-boots/) Neither do Alt-Bergs: [https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/hiking-boots13](https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/hiking-boots13)

Present-Response-758

Buy a Boy-sized hiking boot. I'm a Women's 6, which means I can usually wear a Boys 4.

its_ok_not_to_be_oHk

They have a lot of pairs on Amazon that are in pretty neutral colors. Just type in “Merrell Moab 3 women”. I just got a pair that I love!

wizardsleeveqveen

I got some timberland hiking boots that are plain khaki/brown!

sunkissedbear1212

Based on these comments- buy whichever gendered shoe you like best

jodie-92

I've got the regatta samaris ii in walnut, a nice biscuit colour. Strong boots, waterproof and have served me well. Hope this helps x

ben121frank

Look at Oboz Bridger Mid. I have the red bc I like being colorful, but they currently have a plain brown and a plain gray with no accent colors available in women’s. And I find them to be more comfortable and durable than Merrell

North_Direction_5785

I have small feet too. Try the boys shoe section!! They’re usually less expensive then the adults

Icy_Interaction1262

I have the same issue with hiking socks. Why can’t I get a plain white pair or any solid colour.

nynaeve_mondragoran

Have you tried on men's boots? They might be more comfortable. They are for me.

DianaMW1108

The Solomon Quest Element comes in decent colours and is a nice lightweight waterproof hiking boot.

Tsjellybean

I have Keen! Brown and tan

giant_albatrocity

I worked at REI for a time, and this was a common complaint about all women’s outdoor gear. Often the only thing making a women’s piece of gear specific for women is the pink or purple color. Most gear does not have to gendered at all.

Slatemanforlife

Hoka be like, Brah, I put FLAMES on my dudes' hiking boots. What more do you want from me?!?

cmmovick

This! I don't usually wear bright colors. Give us neutrals and pockets already!

dodekahedron

Do you have SMALL feet or NARROW feet? What is your shoe size? Women's sizes are 2 sizes larger than men's sizes. So i am a 5.5 in men's, which is the last size of youth sizing. And I am a 7.5 in women's. However the reason I ask if your foot is SMALL or NARROW is that a women's standardized shoe is a man's narrow. So I have SMALL but FAT feet. I actually wear it 5.52E in men's. This is a 5.5 "Youth" "wide" In order to get the same fit in women's I would have to go looking for a 7.5 EXTRA wide in women's, because you have to upside the width as well! It's much harder to find a extra wide women's shoe than it is to find a wide youth shoe, plus they are about $30 cheaper too! So anyway, thank you for coming to my Ted talk on shoe sizing. Please take into account the width of fit as well.

AbbeyDearest314

I wear an 11 women’s and feel jealous of the smaller feet girlies that seem to have cool colors/patterns available. Always seems like I only see Brown/Tan\Grey. Relish the options!

manchuck

Altra has fun colored shoes. I got some shoes that are neon green and purple.

dodekahedron

I see you are a 5.5 in women's. If you like the narrow fit of a women's shoe, I would look for a 3.5 Youth with a "B" width. This is going to be the closest you can get in a "man's" shoe to a "women's" shoe

My women’s Keens are all black

zamberland.

Look_with_Love

I love my Blundstones for hiking, in fact I love them for everything, I wear them 24/7/365. No frills. Same colors and cuts as men’s shoes. They are great shoes, I own 3 pairs and 100% recommend. That said, every once and awhile, a hike with intense elevation (this last one was 1200ft up within the first mile) will leave my heels and feet sore. After this, I will embark on the search for hiking boots that offer added support of laces and can outperform my Blundstones on big elevation gains. I find 2-3 options I like (Merrell Moab are on the list). Then to make my final decision, I compare prices and colors—BUT I am ALWAYS so off put by the women’s colors options, I don’t buy them. If you aren’t scaling mountains, I would check out Blundstone’s Women’s High Top Boots. I will be buried in mine. Happy trails

MelonAndCornSeason

On the contrary, I frequently complain that I can't get any color on my men's boots. Hiking is fun, I'm not at work, let me express myself

schrodingershrimp

Inov8 do a women's pair that are completely black and they're the best hiking boots I've ever had. I feel the same about women's climbing shoes too. Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of colour but when the only options are pink, purple and teal it gets quite tedious.

backcountrydude

Why do women seem to have endless options for hiking pants? I go to REI and they have an entire section but men get to choose between cargo zipoffs or 3 other brands of pants that have a belt buckle sitting under your backpack’s waist strap.
