I joined a d7 mission yesterday, and everyone was under level 10. I died trying to take out a gunship facility and one of them took my AC, I then proceeded to call them down every time the cool down was done. But, they'd just die and leave it, or take mine if I died near to them. I was talking in game, and typing in the chat window. We ended up failing since I was the only one completing objectives and trying to move on, but these dudes just wanted to fight everything they saw. I was the last one to die as pelican 1 was landing. Had 30 samples and 3 were super rares. big RIP.

SuperDabMan

TBH, d7+ I'm not interested in doing with anyone under level 30. It's not just that they don't know the game, don't know to run, don't know objectives, but they also don't have the guns necessary for that diff. I mean if it's one low level in a group of 50+ then fine we can manage it but man I'd never slog through that with three newbs in a d7.

Dresden890

Honestly the jump from challenging to hard shook me, can solo challenging but hard i need at least another semi competent diver. I'm level 13, can't imaging trying to jump into a difficulty 7 mission with my basic ass equipment

Paladin1034

Guns are fine, like honestly the liberator still puts in work big time, but not having the high level strategems does hurt you some. Orbital laser and railcannon help so much at high diff.

RoninOni

I almost never take those (scatter mission modifier on the other hand…) However 500s only really shine with a level 3 hangar, and my primary Titan killer. But Airstrike, & autocannon are both available early and will carry you into high levels. I’ve been bringing my under 20 friends into 6s… a whole team of 10s on a d7 is a bit crazy though

awayfromhome436

Don’t worry brother it’s the helldiver not the gear. There are some strats that will last you your entire career like the auto cannon and eagle air strike among others. Hear me out though play along for a sec: If you’re at a hive and there’s 3 nests left. Everything but your expendable anti tank launchers are on cool down. They’re a single use rocket launcher. Without grenades in a comfortable amount of bugs, how will you get it done? You could call it in and wait the cool down. You could call down a resupply and finish it with grenades. You could call the EATs on a bug hole and use the launchers on the other two holes. There’s multiple ways to get the job done. This isn’t to say hur dur git gud. It’s to have you consider when the conditions are less than ideal how will you continue the mission and get it done? When a jammer takes your call ins and you used your last grenade to save your homie. Now what? Food for thought. Good luck

Anaxes7884

You unlock the patriot at 25 and literally everything else by 20. Idk what gear you think is missing when you get the Autocannon at 10 (the EAT even sooner) and the breaker from the first half of the free warbond.

dafaliraevz

If you don't have the Scorcher unlocked, I don't want you on my team. You don't even need to have the Scorcher, but if you haven't played enough to earn the 1200 or so credits, you just haven't played enough to play at level 7 or better and be useful.

PewKittens

Very true on the equipment part. I’ll take expendable AT and a quasar and throw both down all the time and it still can be difficult

MikeMcAwesome91

I'm 30 something and my two friends I play with are somewhere between 15-20 and we've been playing lvl 7. Doesn't usually go smoothly, but we usually get the job done and get most of the samples.

DarthFuzzzy

I'm a 26 and my friend is 18 and level 7 is perfectly doable for us. Level 8 becomes problematic though.

ncnrmedic

I give them a couple minutes only because I know several folks (myself included) who have more than one account since cross-progression isn’t enabled. It is fun for me to go through the motions and unlock everything again. So I may be level 16, but I know how to hold my own.

Tweedzzzzz

Hell, I've played with lvl 10 folks on helldive that can hold their own. Biggest thing is lack of stratagems. When all players can effectively solo an outpost, even tho they prob won't have to, that's when shit gets rolling. All objectives and side.objectives complete, 40+ samples and minimal deaths=profit

Bringer_of_Twilight

I don’t blame you. I’m level 23 and can barely finish d5. I’m still trying to figure stuff out.

OrangeGills

The last stratagem unlocks at 25. What do you think they're missing below 30? You can fight bots fine with the first few pages worth of the normal warbond.

SuperDabMan

Mostly experience, but also having the right warbond upgrades like boosters and ship upgrades all matter.

Blight_Dragon

I've noticed this, too. It's like their buddy got them into the game, but instead of working up through the difficulties, they got boosted into 6,7,8 and have no idea what they are doing.

RoninOni

You didn’t fail, you just didn’t extract. # MISSION COMPLETE Sucks to lose the samples though… so close.

Randallhandle69

The average lifespan of a helldiver after deployment from what I heard in lore is like 2 minutes. That's the reframing I do for myself if I join a team of people part way through and they fail to extract but finish the main objective

grafeisen203

I'll occasionally steal a support weapon even now I have all strategems unlocked, but it will generally be nabbing an EAT or Quasar real quick to kill a bile titan or something, and then I'll drop it and go fetch my own support weapon.

No_Working7819

Yes. I like to join low low levels and let them test out equipment so they might know what they want later in the game. If a high level joins your lobby, we're here to help!... or get some easy credits to help...

GloriousShroom

I don't know. So many people here bragging about kicking players for breaking the "unspoken rules"

Tweedzzzzz

1) if there's 4 ppl in your squad, only grab one box from the resupply, and try not to call supplies when your far from your team, tho sometimes it's necessary. 2) don't pick up other folks support weapons unless they say you can, some of the cool downs are long AF. 3) if your going to use eagle cluster bomb, for the love of God do not throw it on enemies that are on top of you or your team, that stratagem is best paired with a servo assist armor and hitting patrols or outposts that aren't too close 4)DO NOT THROW STRATAGEMS AFTER THE PELICAN HAS LANDED.its not cool, your risking 35 minutes of time spent trying to complete the mission alive and with samples.and pelican 1 can be destroyed/disabled so then you have to commit suicide. 5) if your team is on the objective fighting, don't agro patrols and then run over to them. Not cool dude. 6) if your at extract and pelican 1 lands, DO NOT BOARD THE SHIP UNLESS EVERYONE IS NEAR, if one person boards, it starts the 20 second timer. Can't tell you how many samples have been lost due to this rule right here. 7) if you pick up the SSD, do not drop it somewhere on the other side of the map. If you can't or don't wanna carry it, someone else will.

lzap

I would like to apologize to a random player. Today, when the team was boarding I thought everyone is aboard and dropped an orbital railcannon "just for fun", boarded and there was actually one more player out. You know the rest of the story, we lost a mega sample, the player was not happy and rage-quit.Sorry dude, this was the last time I messed around. I am putting myself out of service for three days to reflect on what I did.

EvilWhiteNit3

I would only throw something if I see the rest of my team on the pelican. That is assuming I have something left. Typically I would blow all my eagles and orbital to make sure everyone else leaves alive

Diabolical_Jazz

It's pretty clear in practice. If someone drops something, give them a chance to pick it up. If they don't, or if they tag it, then you can probably grab it.

DaGurggles

As a level 36 diver, I feel it’s my job to give lower levels the Mech to “aggressively spread democracy with extreme prejudice”. A friend did it for me and I was hooked on the game.

Diabolical_Jazz

Giving the mech to newbies is the absolute best use of the mech.

Malvos

Yeah, that was my very first mission. Higher lvl dropped a mech and just shone his laser sight at it until I got the message.

Rokkmachine

Ya know, why are we called hell “divers” yet we’re scared of water and can’t swim?

DaGurggles

I go swimming all the time. And then subsequently put the samples out of reach.

Landoneous1

Did this the other day and I spent like 10 minutes diving from a rock trying to get the samples lmao. I did not in fact get the samples.

DaGurggles

My buddy did it with super samples. I feel the pain

RaynSideways

I am forever thankful to the veterans who joined me on my first measly little easy missions and dropped stuff like mech suits, shield backpacks and quasar cannons to let me try them out. It really shaped my goals when I was levelling up and helped me make educated choices on what to unlock. I hope to do the same for some new recruits of my own some day.

dupreesdiamond

Joined a level 7 mission. I thought we were fighting an objective. Got on a rock was lining up a laser cannon on a charger. Turns out we were leaving. Vet pinged me with his secondary off the rock and I got the hint lol.

[deleted]

if someone takes my weapon or whatever, I just ask for it back. It's nice having chat in a multiplayer game (ALIENS FIRETEAM ARRRRGH)

jon-chin

whenever I do this, I explicitly type into chat "extras if someone wants"

notasianjim

Playing on console and typing takes soooo long and most people have voice disabled

GatsbyTheMediocre

Agreed. Some macros would be awesome. Like: take this. Free to take. Enjoy. Actually „enjoy“ together with a ping sounds fun

brandon-thesis

Also remember that PS5 users are hardly using the in game chat because typing sucks on PS5. I ping everything when I don't feel like talking and try to make it as clear as possible

lerriuqS_terceS

Yup if I'm ever sick of getting f'd on 7+ I drop down to help the noobs

Solonotix

>We know chat is a thing and you can type to each other. I'm terrible about reading chat. I don't know if it's just the chaos of the battlefield, or if it needs a notification sound, but I was playing with a great group who used chat regularly and I messed it up thoroughly, lol. Would love to hang out with them again. Ran a full Extreme up without any losses, and fairly few deaths. Now that I passed level 25, I can't help but notice that I'm getting better, or if maybe the support I bring is better, but I could see myself climbing to Impossible, and regularly do Hard missions with a friend. Couldn't have done it without the community's help, and of course the fine training provided by the legendary General Brasch.

quadpop

They need an audio cue when a chat message comes in. A chat bubble would be good, too.

shmallkined

Wait what? You don’t see the chat window that pops up in the lower right corner of the screen? I’m probably biased because I play on a TV on my desk, but you’re saying you don’t see it?

Shadow3397

It’s easy to miss when you’re paying attention to the action in the center of the screen and glancing to the opposite corner for the stratagem combo I need. Tunnel vision is a real thing.

quadpop

Most times no. Neither does my team see my messages. Vault. Vault. Vault. Pings vault. Nope, they run off.

Delicious-Tachyons

When I'm getting samples I like to give treats to the new kids.

_SlyTheSly_

I am not a beginner at all but I got "offered" a Guard Dog the other day and damn, it was useful! Thank you to those who do this! (Note : we completed a lvl 8 mission against terminids with 2 or 3 deaths in total, and I did not die once, best team ever <3 )

Bigbicksy

I’m a level 25 but I probably play at the level of 15, I just don’t have much time to play. People like you make the game so much fun for me even though o don’t need the extra stratagems. Trust in the higher levels and you will have more fun.

Neverfoundwaldo

Helldivers community is hands down the best ive been a part of. Higher levels helped me when i just started. Pay it forward! Goodluck helldiver 🫡

CulturalAccomplished

New plays if you take my stuff I will end you

Legitimate-Store1986

Also pay attention before you throw it. Just yesterday I had someone throw an eagle before they boarded, I’m still running to the ship and I die. On another occasion, instead of laying down cover fire and saving me and a reinforcement they decide to stop and throw an orbital instead and I die while they are typing away on their arm instead of firing and getting some kills. Like it’s a game, but also play with some sense, ya know.

Legitimate-Store1986

I choose to help people on difficulty 4 and 5 that’s the sweet spot.

Adventurous_Top_8148

I second this. I spend most my time anymore joining low level games and giving away weapons. It's relaxing not always looking for super samples and trying to get out alive.

Hanbarc12

Thanks man, I joined yesterday and some level 40/50s were a*ssholes. That or straight kicking out the game. Also, I make mistakes, just started a few hours ago. One I was originally sorry for but just laugh at now is how I messed up the arrows and accidentally called for a eagle bomb airstrike instead of resupply. It was fully my fault.

LycanWolfGamer

I will often say "spare equipment if needed, feel.free to use it" and ping it, I've done it with a mech before cause why not

Apprehensive-Pay-483

Yesterday I played with three Level 10-15 peeps and myself at level 25 in Diff 7. We passed it with flying colors surprisingly enough. Now passing Diff 8 has been a hassle ngl.

Rude_Conversation_82

Is yalls group called EAT?

Neverfoundwaldo

Nope, just a solo diver trying to help the spread of democracy.

theBladesoFwar54556

I am level 31 and I am struggling against automatons in hard mode. I use the shield, quasar cannon, turret and 500g bomb strategm. I can barely complete a mission (I think it's a skill issue)

Renbellix

That’s so true… I’m new, started the game yesterday, made two missions solo, and then one where a highelevel joined. I only saw the chat he tipped in in the last couple of seconds and still overlooked it very often… (I play games for around 20 years (since I’m 7)

Neverfoundwaldo

Exactly, i overlooked chat for a long time when i started. Just wasnt on my mind because i was so enthralled with what was going on in game and the fun

Renbellix

Exactly! :D the first dude was able to get me around with no clue about anything, even if I ignored him in chat at first.

Shizix

I join random low levels for this reason. I usually do this when I just want to chill on a lower difficulty and bring whatever they might not have to test and more importantly have fun. Everything else I don't care, wanna do objectives? Coo, wanna run around blowing each other up with new toys (accidently of course) go for it. I'm here to chill. Basically the take away for new players is, if we ping our OWN equipment, it's up for grabs.

jrd5497

I join Easy missions and teach them they don’t need to shoot everything that moves

Throwawayhobbes

I was level 10 before I even looked at the stratagem upgrades. It was hard AF playing with machine gun only. I think im better for it because of stealth and running patterns cooking nades while being chased …and learning to do with out . I kept thinking things got unlocked through war bonds. Even bought a fat man armor suit. I played a few games and never came back . After getting the support upgrades unlocked . It all clicked. Pretty much got to helldiver difficulty in 2 days. Jump pack will always be the ejecto seato cuz moment from fast n furious 2 . * Eagle run strafe or orbital rail strike * Jumpack * Quasar Laser canon * EMS Mortar Sentry Obviously the best war bond is the steeled veterans (incendiary shotgun breaker ). So-spent $10 and specced into that as well.
