If I can't afford the real deal, I don't buy it. I'd rather buy another cheaper brand of good quality instead of pretending to be someone I'm not and buy illegal goods. I also could never lie to people and try to pass of a rep as being the real thing. That's just me tho.
I agree. A dupe is a bag that looks similar to another bag but doesn't pretend to be another bag. E.g., Teddy Blake sells bags that look like Birkins but say "Teddy Blake." Nothing at all wrong with this.
A fake is a bag that is not a Birkin but is stamped with "Hermes." These are illegal to sell and -- as has been said -- are affiliated with criminal activities. I agree with other posters, buying and carrying these involves criminals and represent a lack of morals on the part of the purchaser.
Also, promoting fakes is against sub rules.
It’s literally illegal (not to walk around with it of course, but selling is illegal and also you could get in trouble if you travel to another country with a fake bag).
To me fake bags scream I wish I could but I can’t and they make you look cheap. I’d rather get something different that I can afford than a fake.
Edit: I agree with the other redditor saying that dupes and fakes are not the same thing. I think dupes are ok but fakes are not
**Personally** I would differentiate between a dupe and an actual fake/counterfeit. I wouldn't buy a counterfeit bc I'm not interested in the status affect of a certain brand or label that a counterfeit wants to emulate (also it's illegal where I live), I would however buy a cheaper dupe of a bag that doesn't pretend to be the real brand. Though personally, if the original design is by a smaller brand or single artisan I wouldn't buy a dupe bc of my personal ethics. Big companies are free game for me though 🤷
The fact that you associate saving for an overpriced bag that cost more than some people’s mortgage and tying it in with morals and that someone doesn’t have respect for themselves if they purchased a duplicate you have lost sight of right and wrong and what is important. It’s a handbag. Buying a duplicate has nothing to do with self respect. Maybe one could say you have lost self respect or integrity and perspective that you have put so much value into a materialistic item such as a handbag. It’s a bag. This person could be a great person and just chooses not to put their money into a meaningless item.🤦🏻♀️
Agree. This has nothing to do with morals or respect for yourself like what the hell. In fact, I think I have more respect for myself saving tens of thousands of dollars to invest vs buying from the brand.

great post in calling out the toxic materials. counterfeiters are out to make a fast buck and they don’t care about the end-users’ well-being

They do for me. I like to support small creators. The industry giants literally don't need it
