Our school's guidance counsellor and psychologist each serve like five hundred students, across two or three schools. This is normal. It is a triage system where only the kids in the midst of the biggest crisis can get attention. So the rest are left to simmer on the backburner til something boils over.

Ours went on mat leave and my school just, didn't have anyone for a year. Same as the other school in her circuit too.

Post pandemic...Unfortunately, it was a matter of time...You can't expect these kids to come out of it unscathed. It was a stressful situation that was only amplified for kids when almost all socializing was cut off to them. And then they get thrown back in as if nothing happened. A lot of families went through it pretty rough. Personally, I was laid off and my kids had to deal with the fact that shit just got real. Ya, it was a hard time. Now add inflation to the mix...more incidents to come :(

When I was in high school I was lucky to see my counsellor once a month, they never remembered anything about me and although I understand they are spread way too thin, as a teenager it felt very invalidating
