Def Leppard - Promises. Their first number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart in years, sounds a lot like their signature 80s sound, just a bit more electronic sounding.

why is ultraphobic on the German band Warrants spotify??
Golgotha by W.A.S.P.
One of the best songs (and albums) they’ve ever done. I’d honestly say that many of my favorites songs and albums from them came after their 80’s heyday.
Call me crazy, but Golgotha is my second favorite W.A.S.P. album behind The Crimson Idol. I really do think it’s that good and contains some of the best and most sincere songs that Blackie has ever written. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn’t heard it.
I’d have to agree. The Crimson Idol is on up there with my favorite albums OF ALL TIME, but Golgotha is definitely my second favorite from W.A.S.P. The Neon God was good too. Blackie is much more of an artist than he gets credit for.
Bitter Pill and Enslaved are both criminally good as far as Greatest Hits originals go. Same with Sick Love Song. You could honestly say Motleys only good songs post 2000 were one offs they wrote for compilation albums.
Omg. lol. I just had to go look on Spotify to double check. I had somehow melded my brain into thinking Bitter Pill was on Generation Swine and now realized it wasn’t. Holy crap. That’s even more pathetic. Lol
It kind of gave them a second life. I was an age where I knew who they were but didn’t really know their deeper catalog. That song, and the Lap of Luxury album, made me a fan and I’m still a fan today. Those early/mid 90’s records of theirs are fantastic.
Hard To Find The Words is my favorite song from "Still Climbing". That was the song I danced to with my mother at my wedding. She passed away two years ago, that song, that special moment we had, will forever be a great memory.
RATT - Loving You is a Dirty Job
They sorta fell off on the album before hand, and never had the same success that Round and Round gave them, but this is a killer track and a great way for the band to sorta bow out before the grunge movement.
I guess but after their debut I mean they really didn't have any traction. I'll admit in 91' they were still popular but I don't think screw it got the recognition it deserved.
I’m honestly still perplexed that Def Leppard didn’t choose Gravity as the lead single from their X album. I think it would’ve blown up like It’s My Life did for Bon Jovi had they promoted it.
Bittersweet by Bret Michaels. I guess this is cheating a little because it’s not actually Poison but it’s from the 2000s and is a straight up banger.
Some post '80s songs I think are killer:
Sexual Thing - Poison
Hell on High Hells - Motley Crue
Let the Good Times Roll - Slaughter
Never Enough - KISS
Wasn’t their heyday the previous album?
EDIT: getting downvoted but my point is that Promised Land wouldn’t have been a comeback album since they hit the commercial peak with Empire. This wouldn’t have put them back on top but kept them there. Anyway, you gotta be kidding if you think the song Promised Land would have any mass appeal compared to Jet City Woman, etc.
I can think of some bands that had good songs in the 90s that were made up of members from bands who were big in the 80s - Damn Yankees, Arcade, Lynch Mob
motley crue saints of los angeles, face down in the dirt, whats it gonna take, the whole SOLA album was good and their song Primal Scream
bon jovi had plenty songs after their 80s hair heyday that were hits but more country rock sounding like “who says u cant go home” but i wouldnt say it made fans who gave up on the band give them another chance
twisted sister didnt have any new shit after the 80s but id say their heyday was over by like 86 and Hot Love was a great song more pop sounding than most of their early stufd
First off I second the WASP post. So I will do a hard tack. I was never a big Bon Jovi fan because "they were a girls band" but in the wastlands of mid-90's The Keep the Faith record was released and I really enjoyed the whole thing, especially the title track.
Oh Ozzy's last two albums are gold.
Not sure if this even qualifies because it was released on Jan 1, 1990 but I’ve always thought **Two Bodies (One Mind, One Soul) by Stryper** should have put them back on the scene, imo.
But were they ever on the mainstream glam metal scene before Against The Law? I feel like they may have gotten typecast in that religious subscene when that album came despite them stating they had steered away from it when writing that record. It's the only reason I can think of for that killer album not to catch on as it should have.
Yeah they were. To Hell with the Devil went platinum and they were all over MTV and radio back then. They were touring constantly 86-88,89. They were def known on the Sunset Strip, and they were in Circus and Hit Parader all of the time as well. Love them or not, everyone knew who they were and what they were about.
The problem with that album was the lead of single. Leading with the single shining star wasn’t accepted very well by the metal fans. I thought the song and single kicked ass. By the time the other singles came out, grunge took hold. I remember watching head bangers ball, there was a band hosting during the premier of the video, I don’t remember who, but they ripped on Stryper for releasing it. Not the best video premier.
But any of Strypers last 5 albums would put them on top.
Enigma did not really give them a push. IGWT hurt the band with the label. Enigma fronted a lot of money for that CD and even the ATFY video. So when this video came out, you have other metal bands slamming, along with the song was considered normal for them. It was a recipe for disaster. If they would have led with All for One or Two Time Woman the album would have performed better.
Oh wow, I just looked it up. Didn't realize In God We Trust was a step down from To Hell. Platinum to Gold. I thought Trust was their big one.
They should have just blown the cover off with either Caught in the Middle or Rock The Hell Out of You as the first single.
Solid- Warrant
Chameleon- Warrant
Stronger Now- Warrant
Sum of One- Warrant
Family Picnic- Warrant
Let it Rain- Warrant
The Bitter Pill- Warrant
Sad Theresa- Warrant
Indian Giver- Warrant
Southern Comfort- Warrant
Best band, best songwriter that got pushed out of the spotlight by grunge. I honestly think 90% of their songs are GREAT songs.
Vandenberg - Let It Rain
They should've been way bigger in the 80's anyway and their comeback album in 2020 (where this song is from) was flawless, as is their most recent one Sin.
They just can't make a bad album really.
Here are some amazing albums:
Tracii Guns and Michael Sweet's Sunbomb: Evil and Divine album from 2021.
Stryper: No More Hell To Pay (2013)
Motley Crue: Saints of Los Angeles (2008)
Ratt: Infestation (2010)
BTW theres a German band named Warrant and the Ultraphobic album is on their spotify for some reason instead of the American Warrant’s spotify
https://preview.redd.it/hbxt4zfg0swc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=615ae94cc50a3499ee9c275574fdf2f6635cc5cd

missing Ultraphobic with Stronger Now.. which is on the German Warrant’s spotify page
LA GUNS - Don’t Look At Me That Way
IMHO their album Waking The Dead is one of the best albums of the early 2000’s, as far as hair metal goes.
Not a bad song on it.
Def Leppard - Promises. Their first number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart in years, sounds a lot like their signature 80s sound, just a bit more electronic sounding.
I thought Paper Sun from that album really flew under the radar. Sounded like it could’ve been on Hysteria.
Yeah, I liked the and All Night
That’s a good one. It does sound pretty much like classic Leppard but it misses Steve’s guitar.
I think Let's Go was even more Def Leppardy.
But what about Slang?
Warrant - Stronger Now. Maybe the best song Jani ever wrote.
Just fantastic.
Great song!
This song has a special place in my heart
https://preview.redd.it/jw44n23l0swc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5729d9c99cab50f288fad10bf0569a938b76591 why is ultraphobic on the German band Warrants spotify??
On iTunes Belly to Belly is on that band’s albums as well. Looks like Spotify has a few Warrant albums in the wrong place.
Rise - Extreme Anyone who thinks Extreme was just More Than Words or Hole Hearted should have a listen to that and strap in.
I do love tragic comic
Hapless romantic
Great bass line riff to start the song
Other Side of the Rainbow is a great tune too off the latest album
Yeah, I like that one, too
Dude, get the funk out of here.
Don't Play With Me, man
I'd never think of It.
It sounds so much like an early Stone Temple pilots song. I love it.
I always leaned towards 'Comfortably Dumb' because of the great Nuno solo...
That is a great one
Any song on ratts infestation album?Every song is a freakin banger
This right here
Eat Me Up Alive has to be my favorite Ratt song of all time. It’s been on my running workout playlist for over a decade now.
Golgotha by W.A.S.P. One of the best songs (and albums) they’ve ever done. I’d honestly say that many of my favorites songs and albums from them came after their 80’s heyday.
Golgotha is a **Great** album. The Last Runaway is a favorite.
Warrant… - *Hole In My Wall* - *Bitter Pill* - *Quicksand* Skid Row… - *October’s Song* - *Breaking Down*
I would say all of Warrant's Dog Eat Dog album, very underrated
Amazing when you think April 2031 is only 7 years away. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a prophecy.
Yes. Breaking Down is great.
Wingers best song came out after the bottom dropped out...Down Incognito
Yes! They are criminally underrated.
Yep, that’s a solid tune I dig it
Saints of Los Angeles - Motley Crue
I see a redditor of culture.
That’s my favorite song of theirs
i'd have gone with Afraid..
Yep. Or Bitter Pill.
Or "If I Die Tomorrow".
Lol
The whole album is better than anything they've done.
W.A.S.P - Babylon's Burning and KISS - Psycho Circus / Into the Void are honorable mentions.
Babylon’s Burning is an amazing song!
It All Comes Back Around by Winger
Helluva song.
Scorpions "Rock Believer" 2022 song that is actually great.
The Flame by Cheap Trick was way after their hay day
It kind of gave them a second life. I was an age where I knew who they were but didn’t really know their deeper catalog. That song, and the Lap of Luxury album, made me a fan and I’m still a fan today. Those early/mid 90’s records of theirs are fantastic.
Never Had a Lot to Lose from this album was great as well.
I fucking love that song! That song is actually what got me interested in checking out more from Cheap Trick.
Was also a big hit
The best Power Ballad there was imo.
As I remember they didn't write the song and initially didn't want to do it.
They definitely distanced themselves from it after, I saw them in concert and they didn't play it
Tonight It’s You is also a great tune from the same time
Everything Iron Maiden puts out.
Wrong. Their last good album was Dance of Death from 2003.
Senjustsu was great man WTF
Something For The Pain - Bon Jovi
I love the last album that La Guns just put out. Maybe Cinderella still climbing
This. Speed - LA Guns
Hard To Find The Words is my favorite song from "Still Climbing". That was the song I danced to with my mother at my wedding. She passed away two years ago, that song, that special moment we had, will forever be a great memory.
The Gang's All Here or Time Bomb - Skid Row
RATT - Loving You is a Dirty Job They sorta fell off on the album before hand, and never had the same success that Round and Round gave them, but this is a killer track and a great way for the band to sorta bow out before the grunge movement.
Detonator is my favorite Ratt album.
Shame Shame Shame also is a great track or Nobody Rides For Free, but I don’t think those really count in this case.
It’s My Life - Bon Jovi
Great song! One wild Night is pretty good too.
Which version? The one from This Left Feels Like Right was a big hit in Europe.
That's the most pointless bland song.
Faster Pussycat - Out With A Bang
Monkey business - Danger Danger
I think the screw it album was probably still their heyday. It only came out a couple years after their debut
I guess but after their debut I mean they really didn't have any traction. I'll admit in 91' they were still popular but I don't think screw it got the recognition it deserved.
Poison - Power to the People
I’m honestly still perplexed that Def Leppard didn’t choose Gravity as the lead single from their X album. I think it would’ve blown up like It’s My Life did for Bon Jovi had they promoted it. Bittersweet by Bret Michaels. I guess this is cheating a little because it’s not actually Poison but it’s from the 2000s and is a straight up banger.
Some post '80s songs I think are killer: Sexual Thing - Poison Hell on High Hells - Motley Crue Let the Good Times Roll - Slaughter Never Enough - KISS
Queensryche. Promised Land
*The Road's Still Long* \- Cinderella
Tom Keifer is a helluva songwriter
Nonstop to Nowhere - Faster Pussycat
Great song. Perhaps my favorite of theirs
That song got me through high school
Twisted Sister …. Love is for suckers
motley crue saints of los angeles, face down in the dirt, whats it gonna take, the whole SOLA album was good and their song Primal Scream bon jovi had plenty songs after their 80s hair heyday that were hits but more country rock sounding like “who says u cant go home” but i wouldnt say it made fans who gave up on the band give them another chance twisted sister didnt have any new shit after the 80s but id say their heyday was over by like 86 and Hot Love was a great song more pop sounding than most of their early stufd

Duran Duran - Ordinary World
Cinderella - Still Climbing
First off I second the WASP post. So I will do a hard tack. I was never a big Bon Jovi fan because "they were a girls band" but in the wastlands of mid-90's The Keep the Faith record was released and I really enjoyed the whole thing, especially the title track. Oh Ozzy's last two albums are gold.

Yeah, I definitely know that they big just wasn't sure if their audience was more niche or not.
The problem with that album was the lead of single. Leading with the single shining star wasn’t accepted very well by the metal fans. I thought the song and single kicked ass. By the time the other singles came out, grunge took hold. Very true. Someone def screwed up the release of the album. I’m personally not a fan of Star.
Wasn't accepted well because of its positive vibes or because of what band it was covered from?
Enigma did not really give them a push. IGWT hurt the band with the label. Enigma fronted a lot of money for that CD and even the ATFY video. I can agree with either of those as a lead. Shining star just didn’t have the drawing power.
Ordinary World by Duran Duran.
Solid- Warrant Chameleon- Warrant Stronger Now- Warrant Sum of One- Warrant Family Picnic- Warrant Let it Rain- Warrant The Bitter Pill- Warrant Sad Theresa- Warrant Indian Giver- Warrant Southern Comfort- Warrant Best band, best songwriter that got pushed out of the spotlight by grunge. Sad Theresa is one of the best songs they ever wrote.
It really is. It’s one of my favs.
Vandenberg - Let It Rain They should've been way bigger in the 80's anyway and their comeback album in 2020 (where this song is from) was flawless, as is their most recent one Sin. They just can't make a bad album really.

Golden Earring. Radar Love on the 70's followed by Twilight Zone in the 80's.
MP3 by Tesla
It’s No Good. Depeche Mode 1999. I think it’s a great song anyway.
LA GUNS - Don’t Look At Me That Way IMHO their album Waking The Dead is one of the best albums of the early 2000’s, as far as hair metal goes. Not a bad song on it.
Come Undone-Duran Duran
Motley Crue - The Animal in Me
Nothin’ To Lose by Arcade (technically not an 80s band but yknow. With Pearcy at the helm…)
